THE BEGINNING OF A GREAT MODEL Started modeling at the age of 21 as she was scouted by an agent Adelle Botes of Extreme Model Management. “I am so grateful to them to be given a chance to join their agency as I was turned down by other modeling agencies in Durban for being “too tall”. She have grown a lot in the industry modeling the ramps of Durban for some of the most talented designers (Diva’s Never Sleeps) My highlights are modeling the Durban Fashion Fair,

Vodacom Durban July , African Fashion Exchange , David Tlale Extravaganza and Divalicious which I got to work with international designers. UP THE GAME START YOUR BUSINESS For Ishmini, working hard and being consistence pays and you have no doubt in its success is filled in within. When she’s not working with designers or doing photo shoots, she’s busy with makeup appointments with her sister whom started their own

Dreams Do Come To Life If We Invest In Them”

makeup business called Doll Face Beauty “believing in a term that says when there’s no way just create yours” as she mentioned that with the job searching being so difficult in South Africa its best to just start your own thing and that’s purely true. ACCELERATING IN MODELING The moment she entered into the Supermodel KZN competition, such a fun filled competition where rotated between photographers working on different themes. Currently she’s leading at the end of round 2 highly hoping that she win. She quoted that. ‘To be beautiful means to be yourself. You don’t need to be accepted by others. You need to accept yourself.’

m a model that walks the runways of most of the shows in Durban. I hope to make it internationally someday. I’ve got my Bcom degree, just completed my exams for my honors degree in supply chain management. You could say I’m both beauty and brains I’ve got my own Makeup business as well. I feel that I’m good company, love having a good time with friends and family. I’m quite reserved with people who aren’t close to me, some may feel that I come across as stuck up but that’s just my shy side. successful ever since. The modeling industry is very tough and competitive. One needs to present themselves strongly in order to stand out from the rest. In the makeup field, there are one too many ‘makeup artists’ out there. The biggest challenge is price differentiation, as some people choose low prices to good quality of work. In the makeup industry Aldytha Da Silva of Make-up your mind inspires me to be like her. Being a model for her Kryolan master classes teach me on improving techniques and inspires me to grow my business.

Rashes can be caused by tapes, soaps, fabrics or other irritants. Total body rashes may result from food or drug allergies. Consult your health care provider for treatment of these and any other rashes you may have.

3 Calluses may form on your feet and hands. These can be removed by soaking frequently in warm water and toweling briskly to remove dead skin. You can use moisturizing creams to help soften calluses. Note that calluses may indicate an area of excess friction or pressure.

1 Lubricate dry skin with moisturizing creams or ointments (such as Eucerin or Aquaphor). Use care in applying creams over bony areas, since they may soften the skin and promote skin breakdown.

6 7

Avoid using items that may dry the skin — for example, harsh soaps or alcohol based products such as lotions. (A good nondrying lotion to use is Alpha Keri.)

4 Avoid using talc powders, as they may support yeast growth. They can also “cake up” and keep moisture in, causing skin breakdown.

2 Soiled skin can break down easily. Urine and stool have irritants in them and should be cleaned up immediately to prevent weakening and breakdown of the skin surface.

5

Finger and toe nails require special care. Soak them and rub gently with a towel to remove dead skin and decrease the chance of hangnails forming. Nails are easier to cut after soaking; be sure to cut them straight across to avoid ingrown nails, and keep them short for safety. If ingrown nails develop, see your primary care provider or podiatrist.

Strategy for Winning in Business

MIND YOUR BIZZ! Logic for strategy

A

purposeful logic for strategy was proposed by Mitroff.11 He offers the idea that strategy, or as he refers to it, policy, can be formulated in terms of the formal logic of argument. As such, a policy position or line of strategic direction is a claim, supported by warrants based on evidence, and surviving against rebuttal. This idea also carries weight as a contributor to strategic thinking because it requires precise specifi cation of the elements and considerations in formulating a strategic position, incorporating explicit rejection of alternatives. This logical basis does not solve the problem of formulating strategy; it simply assists by providing a framework for thinking. More recently, a further framework for the 28

logic of strategy is proposed in terms of harmony and confrontation in commercial competition.12 This idea is based on the observation that much of corporate behaviour involves peaceful co-existence among market-oriented fi rms. While a fi rm’s vital interests are not placed under threat from the behaviour of rivals, a harmonious pattern of market-based interaction persists. If, however, interests are threatened, the pattern of competitive interaction shifts radically to a mode which is confrontational. This idea is developed further in Chapter

2. The literature on business strategy is enormous. Its growth has been motivated by curiosity among senior executives about how to guide their businesses to succeed.

NOVEMBER 2018 | ISSUU.COM/ROYALROUGEMAGAZINE

But despite the quantum of scholarly effort and writing, I believe most executives are disappointed by the result. Principles are rare and the logical structure of advice is abstract. The literature on strategic management refers to many rather abstract aspects of the management

of businesses, but it offers very little advice about dealing with the most diffi cult aspect of securing business success: dealing with direct competition from rival fi rms

Classic perspectives

scholars of strategy is neither exclusive nor comprehensive in their insights; no doubt others also have had considerable infl uence in their times.18 It is clear, however, that Sun Tzu, Kautilya, Alexander, Machiavelli and von Clausewitz are historical fi gures with enduring reputations and this is the basis for their selection to contribute to Principles of Strategy.19 A background sketch for each author is offered below.

rich in evidence of strategic thinking. A little more recently those with responsibility for the protection of state sovereignty have been advised on strategy by Machiavelli16 and von Clausewitz.17 This group of

states. He dwelt on the sources of success in such rivalry. This thinking has been distilled into a rather abstract, even poetic form, which expresses principles which are both

Although the connection between business and strategy is relatively recent, our heritage in strategic thinking has a very long history. It is over 2500 years since Sun Tzu13 wrote his military treatise. At about the same time Kautilya14 was providing comprehensive advice to King Chandragupta on

the Indian subcontinent. This included a guide for prevailing in competition with enemies. Alexander the Great15 undertook his great enterprise in empire building between 334 and 323 BC, leaving a history

Some raise doubts about the identity of the author of work attributed to Sun Tzu, but few dispute the power and wisdom of the insight handed on from around 500 BC. Sun Tzu’s thinking evolved from his observation and participation in struggles among warring

profoundly powerful and plainly practical. Sun Tzu recognised war as a recurrent conscious act and not a passing and painful aberration in human affairs. This rationality is the basis of the detached analysis which forms the essence of his theory. Most importantly, Sun Tzu is aware that armed struggle is always costly and should not be undertaken recklessly. Because of the inevitable cost and mutual disadvantage arising from application of direct force, he sees it as a last resort. Far better, he argues, to attack the plans and ideas of a rival and even better still to undermine an opponent’s morale. Attack a rival’s intentions rather than his army or cities. The objective is elimination of the will to resist,

not annihilation of the enemy.

RELATIONSHIPS

Love Conflict

Finding out that your husband or wife has been unfaithful isn’t just a time of profound heartbreak and shock, it’s also a time of intense confusion. There are so many unanswered questions and so many overwhelming emotions. Most unfaithful partners are deeply committed to saving their marriage. They are honest, forthcoming with information and willing to do whatever it takes, for as long as it takes, to help heal the heart they have broken. They’ll answer questions put to them. They’ll acknowledge what they’ve done and how

it’s hurt their partner. They’ll show true remorse. They’ll have patience with their emotional spouse. They’ll end the affair and cut all contact with the other person, and they’ll be transparent with their phone, whereabouts and so on to help regain their partner’s love and trust. Unfortunately, not all unfaithful partners will react with honesty, humility or empathy when their betrayal is discovered. Not all will work collaboratively with their spouse to rebuild the marriage. These folks aren’t focused on the marriage -- they’re focused on themselves and how they

can get through this with the least amount of drama and personal inconvenience. Remember: those who have nothing to hide hide nothing. What follows are ten things an insincere spouse would prefer you didn’t know: 1. They are fully aware their actions were a betrayal. Their attempts to deny, deflect or downplay their actions, or to draw you into a debate (i.e. “I just sent him a naked picture, I didn’t sleep with him!” or “Texting isn’t cheating!”), are simply their way to muddy the waters so you cannot see the situation clearly.

RELATIONSHIPS

2. There’s more to the story than they’ve told you.

is in many ways a power imbalance in the marriage.

Statements like, “It was only one time,” or “We never met in person” or “We always used a condom,” are often misleading. It is very common

The person who is being unfaithful has the power. They know the secret. They can choose whether to end it, continue it or reveal it. And

of being “paranoid” or “controlling” when you ask to look at their phone, it is because they are hiding something and want you to stop asking. They know that nobody wants to be “that wife” or “that husband” who is meant to feel insecure or controlling, so they use that to their advantage. Remember: those who have nothing to hide hide nothing.

5. They’re doing their best to pin it on you.

for extra information and revelations to trickle in after the affair or indiscretion is first discovered.

3. They enjoyed having all the power. Infidelity 32

like any kind of power, it can be intoxicating -- and a lot of fun.

4. Their phone is proof of guilt. When they accuse you

NOVEMBER 2018 | ISSUU.COM/ROYALROUGEMAGAZINE

Their attempts to transfer blame onto you (i.e. “I wouldn’t have had to have sex with her if you’d be more available!” or “I wouldn’t have had to turn to him if you’d just talk to me once in a while”) are deflections meant to take the spotlight off their behaviour. Yes, preexisting marriage problems may have factored into the infidelity; however, there were other options available to your partner. He or she did not have to secretively become emotionally or sexually intimate with this other person. Only they are to blame for that choice.

RELATIONSHIPS

6. They want you to stop whining about it. Their impatience with your questions or pain, or their statements like, “Get over it already!” or “I already said I was sorry, what else do you want from me?!” usually mean that they are unwilling to invest the time, energy and emotion into regaining your trust and affection. Translation: they want you to shut up about it so they can watch the game in peace.

No matter how many times they say, “You have to trust me,” you do not and should not. A spouse who has engaged in any kind of secretive behaviour -- whether it’s sexual or financial -- is not trustworthy. They can regain your trust; however, this is done through actions, not words.

9. It may not be the last (or first) time. While it isn’t necessarily true that “once a cheater, always a cheater,” it is often true that infidelity can become a pattern

in marriage on the part of one or both spouses.

10. They know exactly why they did it. A spouse who answers the question, “Why did you do it?” by saying, “I don’t know,” isn’t telling the truth. The truth may be “deep” (i.e. “I thought I was in love with him/her”) or it may be “shallow” (i.e. “It was fun and I didn’t think I’d get caught”) but either way, they know exactly why they did it.

7. They made a choice to do it. There’s no such thing as “It just happened.” Similarly, a spouse who says, “It’s impossible to be with just one person!” isn’t addressing their betrayal, they are trying to justify it. The truth is, many couples have enjoyed long-term, devoted, loving marriages. It may not always be easy, but it comes down to personal choice and how you want to live your life. These behaviours often mark the difference between a spouse who wants to save their marriage and a spouse who just wants to save themselves.

8. They are not trustworthy.
