You’ll probably want to make a beeline for the beach or the pool before you have even finished unpacking your bags, and there’s plenty more at Costa Linda Beach Resort to keep you and your family busy during your stay. Sign up for some of the daily activities we offer and meet your fellow guests, take a sailboat or kayak out on the bay or try your hand at a new water sport; diving, snorkeling and even windsurfing classes can be arranged.

You can stay in shape at the gym and if all of this sounds too strenuous, plan a morning at the Spa and treat yourself to some pampering! Need more ideas? Visit the concierge desk in the lobby and start planning your vacation.

Hit the beach

Plain sailing

Costa Linda is located on Eagle Beach, one of the most beautiful beaches on Aruba.

Safe and sheltered, its cool white sands, shallow waters and plentiful shade make it ideal for children and it is also popular with local families.

The calm waters of Eagle Beach are ideal for kayaks and sail boating and as a Costa Linda member or guest you are entitled to the complimentary use of a kayak for one hour per suite. Reservations are taken at the Towel desk or you can call Ext. 7424.

Shade huts, sun loungers and beach chairs are available on a first come first serve basis for the use of registered Costa Linda members and guests from 7:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. Remember to take all your belongings with you when you leave the beach. You’ll find a complete list of beach and pool rules in the Resort tips section of this magazine, please take a few moments to read them.

Kayak hours are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the use of kayaks is at your own risk.

Children must be accompanied by an adult and a maximum of two adults is permitted per kayak.

Eagle Beach is a public beach and there are no lifeguards so you swim at your own risk.

Spend hours of watery fun in the resort pool enjoying organized activities such as volleyball and pool aerobics or simply relax pool side and cool off in the Jacuzzis after your sunbathing session.

If you have small children take them to the kids pool, it is suitable for tots up to six years old.

Fitness center Keep up with your daily workout at the Fitness Center where you’ll find a variety of exercise machines to help you stay in shape. The gym staff is on hand to help you and provide towels to dry the equipment.

Please wear proper attire: shirt, shorts and sneakers. Children under the age of 15 must be accompanied by an adult. The Gym is located beside the elevator landing (A-B Wing) on the lobby level and is open daily from 7 a.m. – 8 p.m.

Challenge your friends to a game, there are two lighted tennis courts located to the south of the main entrance of the resort.

After swimming and splashing in the kids pool, take the little ones to the beach front play area designed specially for them. The kids play gym is suitable for children under the age of 12 and there are a variety of complimentary events during the week.

Have we got a week of fun lined up for you! Join in the activities organized for adults and children during the week. There’s something different every day ranging from pool and beach games to arts and crafts, bingo and live steel band music for adults.

Keep the children busy with jewelry making, finger painting and sand castles, a tug of war and a scavenger hunt on the beach.

Don’t miss the orientation briefing on Saturday at 9 a.m., this informative chat will help you get your bearings and find out about all the activities available at the resort and around the island.

Activities are subject to change and for a complete line up, check the activities board located adjacent to the Tour desk in the lobby entrance, or visit the Activities booth below the kiddies pool, Ext. 7424.

Sun tips It is easy to get carried away when sunbathing at the beginning of your vacation, especially if you are from a cold northern climate. Don’t overdo it, painful sunburn will spoil your fun. Take care and always use sun block with the SPF (at least 15) suitable for your skin type. Choose environmentally friendly sun products and apply regularly after going in the water.

Let the trained massage therapists ease your tired muscles and alleviate stress with a Swedish, Deep tissue, shiatsu or sports massage.

Try a Sabai hot stone therapy massage for maximum relaxation and for a touch of luxury, ask for the Aromatherapy Massage. All massages can be enjoyed at the Spa. The Spa collection includes body scrubs, wraps and facials to detoxify, cleanse and moisturize leaving your skin looking soft and radiant. Reflexology and luxury manicures and pedicures are also available and Spa staff will be happy to recommend additional therapies designed to smooth fine lines and wrinkles and enhance your body contour.

If you are going snorkeling it is a good idea to wear a T-shirt. The hottest time of the day is between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., and remember that you can still get burnt even when it is cloudy or breezy.

Eagle Beach boasts the widest beach in Aruba and is famous for its pristine and soft white sands. Baby Beach Famous Baby Beach in Aruba is a true Caribbean beach paradise. Baby Beach is a gorgeous half-moon sandy expanse in a calm lagoon. Baby Beach is also a perfect location for snorkeling in Aruba. Where the bay opens out to the Caribbean Sea, snorkelers will behold a colorful kaleidoscope of coral and tropical fish.

Roger’s Beach Try the local flavor of a hidden gem amongst the best Aruba beaches. Roger’s Beach in Aruba is a narrow powdery white strip close to famous Baby Beach, where fishermen anchor their boats, protected by the calm waters of the bay. During the week Roger’s Beach is very quiet and perfect to read a book or indulge the crystal clear Caribbean; on weekends this Aruba beach is often populated by local families.

Legal Matters

Your Resort Home

Access to the Costa Linda Beach Resort is controlled and all owners and guests must register at the Front desk upon arrival. The Resort assumes no responsibility for those not properly registered. The use of resort facilities is reserved exclusively for Costa Linda owners and guests.

When you stay at the Resort, you are not a guest in a hotel, you own your suite during the interval purchased. The Resort is not a hotel, nor is it managed as such. Accepting this fundamental difference is essential to understanding why compensation is not permitted for any minor inconvenience you might encounter during your visit.

As in your home, unexpected problems can occur. If a drain clogs or the safe will not open, call the Front desk for assistance.

You can be assured the matter will be taken care of as quickly as possible, often within minutes.

Furthermore, situations sometimes occur as a result of miscommunication or human error. Accidents will happen. Rather than expecting some form of complimentary compensation, a sincere apology from Front Desk personnel should suffice.

Guests who insist upon complimentary compensation for inconvenience or honest mistakes must understand and accept the difference between hotel and Resort Management. Unlike hotels, the Costa Linda Beach Resort is nonprofit. Owner dues cover operating expenses only. There are no funds to cover free dinners, extra nights, or gifts. The cost of such compensatory awards would come directly from owner dues.

The Costa Linda Beach Resort is your vacation home. If a problem arises please report it. Staff members will do everything possible to make your stay pleasant and comfortable, but they are not permitted to offer, nor allowed to give, free gifts. You can expect an apology for an inconvenience, but not a reward.

Air-conditioning Air-conditioning should be turned to low when leaving the suite, do not turn it off as this could lead to mildew. • Do not reserve more than 1 chickee hut per room.

• All chaise lounges will be available for use from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on a first come, first serve basis. The hotel reserves the right to remove belongings in the event a chaise lounge and/or a hut is left unattended for more than two hours. The removed items will be held at the Towel Hut and can be retrieved between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Let’s start talking about a little bit of you.

My beginning in the cuisine was kind of different; I was studying graphic design and advertising in order to “jump” to architecture. Today I speak dutch, however, at that time I spoke none of it and it became a barrier for my intentions to study architecture, therefore, I reached to a turning point in my life and I decided to study gastronomy, where they told me that I had the opportunity to get enrolled in the Bushiri International School and that is how everything starts.

When I finished the school in Aruba I had the opportunity to continue my studies in the United States, which was a great surprise because I would have never imagined to come this far. I’m a Latin American man; I’m a Peruvian with European manners, however, the cold weather and I never got along so I decided to come back to Aruba.

It’s not easy being a Chef and it’s not easy to compete in this industry, it requires a touch of art including the art inside of every dish.

I love to talk with the people and I like to know their opinion about my dishes, especially women’s, because I know that women always cook with their heart when they try to please their family. We men should follow that lead and I do that actually, I cook with passion, presenting every dish with a good taste, a good presentation and a good impact that makes the client say “Wow, I came to the right place”, all that reinforced with an excellent service.

How long have you been working for the Waters Edge Restaurant here in Costa Linda Beach Resort?

Well, I’ve been working for many kitchens before and I know Mr. Roy Leitch, who is the owner of Water’s Edge, for 16 years.

At that time, I was working at the Plaza Café Restaurant and Mr. Roy Leitch had his restaurant, Water Front, just across the street and that’s why we used to have a lot of contact. Time after that, I worked for Bucutti, where I saw Mr. Leitch again, but we took different ways until two years and five months ago when I made the decision to work with him and I became in the Executive Chef for Water’s Edge.

Personally, I like the Trio that contains Mahi, grouper fish and shrimp in a garlic sauce, this is one of the favorites among the clients and also we have the Pickle, which is an interesting mix with Latin flavor, it contains jalapenos, rice and other ethnic ingredients that you could say that Pickle is almost Mexican or Peruvian in some way.

Another of my creations is the Ahi Tuna that has a beautiful presentation.

What is your favorite element in the kitchen?

For me, the main element in the kitchen is the oven and I work with it constantly as

well with the grill and the roaster. As you can see, I work with the hottest part of the kitchen and I’m always aware of those elements.

What is your philosophy or style for cooking?

I like to be consistent in everything I cook but I have my exotic and eccentric side like in the Ahi Tuna dish that actually I’ve seen other restaurants try to do it, but it doesn’t bother me.

Mi comienzo en la cocina fue algo diferente, yo estudiaba en un inicio diseño gráfico y publicidad para tratar de buscar mi salto hacia la arquitectura. Hoy en día hablo holandés pero en aquel entonces no lo hablaba y me topé con una barrera para seguir adelante con la arquitectura, de modo que en la escuela cambié el programa de arquitectura por el de cocina, donde me dijeron que había oportunidad para entrar a la Escuela Bushiri y fue así como todo comenzó.

Sin duda los especiales caribeños, por ejemplo a mi me agrada mucho el Trío que tiene Mahi, Mero y camarones en una salsa de ajo que es de lo que más buscan nuestros visitantes, tenemos además el Escabeche que es una mezcla entre lo latino y centroamericano que lleva chiles jalapeños, arroz etc. que podría decirse que es casi mexicano o peruano. Otra de mis creaciones es el Atún al Ají que tiene una presentación muy hermosa.

En primer lugar que reciban un excelente servicio, empezando por la recepción por parte de nuestra hostess. La idea es que el visitante se sienta como en casa, esa es la visión que yo tengo. Lo que creamos actualmente lo hacemos con mucha pasión y nuevas ideas.

Cuando terminé la escuela en Aruba tuve la oportunidad de que me pudieran ayudar a continuar mis estudios en los E.E.U.U. lo que para mi fue una sorpresa ya que nunca pensé que llegaría tan lejos. Yo soy un hombre latinoamericano, soy un peruano con costumbres europeas y el clima frío no me va muy bien, así que volví a Aruba.

¿Cual es tu elemento favorito de la cocina?

Para mi, el elemento principal de la cocina es mi horno, yo trabajo con él constantemente así como la plancha y el asador, trabajo en la parte más caliente de la cocina y estoy siempre pendiente de ellos.

Me gusta se constante en lo que preparo pero también soy muy exótico y excéntrico como en el caso del Atún, que incluso he visto que en otros restaurantes han tratado de imitar lo cual no me molesta.

Para mi todos los huéspedes de Costa Linda son importantes por lo que constantemente estamos innovando, por ejemplo esta semana tenemos un nuevo menú que ya está prácticamente listo y que complementará el ya existente y con el que pretendemos complacer todos los gustos.

No es fácil ser un Chef y no es fácil competir en el mercado, se requiere un toque de arte incluyendo el arte dentro del plato. Me gusta platicar con los comensales y me gusta saber que opinan de mi comida en especial las opiniones de las mujeres por que se que ellas cocinan siempre con el corazón cuando tratan de complacer a su familia. Los hombres debemos seguir ese ejemplo y yo hago precisamente eso, cocinar con pasión presentando platos que tengan muy buen sabor, muy buena presentación y que el primer impacto provoque que el cliente diga “Wow llegué al lugar indicado” y que además sea reforzado con un excelente servicio. ¿Cuánto tiempo llevas trabajando aquí en el restaurante Water’s Edge de Costa Linda Beach Resort?

Aruba was first settled by an Amerindian tribe called the Caiquetios. Rock paintings and fragments of pottery dating from around A.D. 1,000 have been found on the island. The first European to visit Aruba was the Spanish explorer Alonso de Ojeda in 1499 and in 1636 it became a Dutch colony. The name Aruba is derived from the words “ore” and “ruba” or red gold, a reference to the discovery of gold on the island in 1824.

In 1986, Aruba won its independence from The Netherlands Antilles and has status apart or autonomy within the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

Aruba is 19.6 miles long and 6 miles across, totaling 77 square miles or 193 square kilometers. Aruba is located 12° 30’ North Latitude; 68° 58’ West Longitude; 19 miles north of the Venezuelan coast, 990 nautical miles from Miami and 890 nautical miles from the Equator. Aruba is situated on the Caribbean Tectonic Plate. The island is made up of limestone-capped hills and ridges, with cliffs on the northern and northeastern coasts and coral reefs on the southern coast.

Aruba’s terrain is almost entirely flat. The highest elevation, Mount Jamanota, is only 188 m above sea level. Rock formations characterize the interior of the island.

Money matters Aruba’s currency is the Aruban Florin (AFL). The exchange rate for 1 USD is generally 1.75 AFL and if you buy USD, the exchange rate is usually AFL 1.80. Oranjestad Nestled on the shores of Paardenbaai (bay of the horses), island capital Oranjestad sprang up at the end of the 18th century. The island’s oldest monument is Fort Zoutman, built to guard the young town in 1796. The Willem III Tower was added in 1868 to function as a lighthouse, it was named after the Dutch ruler of that time.

Many of the city’s founders were merchants from Curaçao and they continued the tradition of commerce in their new home. Spend your time in Oranjestad browsing through the many stores, malls and markets, dining or visiting several small museums and galleries. Beach hopping Eagle Beach is so beautiful that it would be hard get tired of it, however if you like beach hopping, the island has some of the finest pearly white strands in the Caribbean, each one with its own charm.

Located on the northwestern tip of the island, Arashi Beach and Boca Catalina are sheltered, making them popular snorkeling and swimming spots. Spanish Lagoon wetlands Legend has it that the Spanish Lagoon was once a hideaway for pirates, whether this is true or not, the quiet waterway and the surrounding mangroves are a haven for wildlife, including herons, osprey, owls and parrots. The lagoon is located between Pos Chiquito Bay and the ruins of the Balashi Gold Mine. Follow the nature trail from the lagoon through the wetlands to Balashi and the Cunucu di Aloe plantation.
