Shanela Paulina & Edwin Ortiz The Turtle’s Nest & Frangipani Restaurants at Costa Linda Beach Resort have served resort guests and their family members since the resort’s opening day. In the last decade, two people who embody the spirit of service at the restaurants are Shanela Paulina and Edwin Ortiz who are celebrating their tenth year anniversary at the helm at Costa Linda.

Shanela and Edwin share the responsibility for management during the restaurant’s hours of operations, and actively pursue total guest satisfaction for Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner.

Los restaurantes The Turtle’s Nest & Frangipani en Costa Linda Beach Resort han servido a los huéspedes del resort y sus familiares desde el día de la inauguración del mismo. En la última década, dos personas que encarnan el espíritu de servicio en los restaurantes son Shanela Paulina y Edwin Ortiz, quienes están celebrando su décimo aniversario al frente de Costa Linda.

Shanela y Edwin comparten la responsabilidad de la dirección durante las horas de operación del restaurante, y buscan activamente la satisfacción total de huéspedes para el desayuno, almuerzo y cena.

Shanela Paulina Shanela is the morning star. She came to Costa Linda having retired her stewardess uniform with KLM, Dutch Royal Airlines. She landed at Costa Linda, and never looked back. Her day starts early with a refreshing workout at her favorite gym, pumping iron before arriving for work at 7 a.m.

Shanela is especially proud of the extensive breakfast menu at Frangipani, all dishes made to order, always fresh. The restaurant’s breakfast philosophy continues to be based on the idea that patrons want to eat a la carte, and that they enjoy the option of having just a simple breakfast or a more elaborate one from the available menu.

Having worked at Costa Linda for so long she recognizes guests by name, and knows what their breakfast preferences are. She’s watched their children grow into adults, “a lot can happen in ten years,” she says, referring to the evolution of these tiny-tots who are now teenagers, visiting Aruba with their parents and grandparents each year. “Some of the guests,” she says, “have become my family members and we are so happy to see eachother again, each year.”

With the closing of the Turtle’s Nest for renovations, Shanela also oversees the Beach Bar, offering grilled burgers and hotdogs to Costa Linda’s beach-loving guests.

And she looks forward every week to meeting hungry patrons on Wednesday, for Lobster Night, and daily at Happy Hour, as she makes sure the bartenders keep up with the pace of mixing their favorite tropical libations.

On her off days, Shanela is a dedicated mom, cooking pasta dinners and local Creole specialties for her 15 year old daughter Quianna, and her “all-grown-up” son Jeandre, often inviting one of her three other siblings to share the occasions, with their extended family.

Shanela es la estrella de la mañana. Ella vino a Costa Linda habiéndose retirado su uniforme de azafata con KLM, Dutch Royal Airlines. Ella aterrizó en el Costa Linda, y nunca miró hacia atrás. Su día comienza temprano con refrescantes ejercicios en su gimnasio favorito, “levantando hierro” antes de llegar al trabajo a las 7 a.m.

Shanela está especialmente orgullosa del amplio menú de desayuno en Frangipani, y todos los platos por encargo, siempre frescos.

La filosofía del restaurante para el desayuno sigue basándose en la idea de que los clientes quieren comer a la carta, y disfrutar de la opción de tener un simple desayuno o algo más elaborado con el menú disponible.

Después de haber trabajado en Costa Linda durante tanto tiempo ya reconoce a los huéspedes por su nombre, y sabe cuáles son sus preferencias de desayuno. Ha visto crecer a sus hijos hasta ser adultos, “pueden pasar muchas cosas, en diez años”, dice, refiriéndose a la evolución de los pequeños en adolescentes, visitando Aruba con sus padres y abuelos cada año. “Algunos de los huespedes”, dice ella, “se han convertido en miembros de mi familia y estamos muy contentos de vernos otra vez, cada año.”

Edwin Ortiz Edwin who studied Hotel Management in his native Colombia, South America, started his hospitality career at Costa Linda Beach Resort as a Night Auditor. His exceptional gift of communication quickly moved him up the executive ladder from his job during off hours, to a more visible position during the resort’s busiest hours. Edwin then continued to distinguish himself when he worked as a bartender in the lobby bar, talking to guests and forging long-lasting connections with the resort’s owners.

For the past few years as the evening manager of the Food & Beverage operation Edwin pays special attention to dinner, making it as tropical and romantic as possible with the garden set-up of the Frangipani, while the Turtle’s Nest Restaurant is closed for renovations. “We welcome timeshare owners home,” Edwin says, “with a great appreciation, we are here to serve them, and we hope they find our food selection refreshing and reflective of their special needs, wishes and desires.”

Guests at Frangipani also have the option to eat reasonably priced light meals any time, with the restaurant’s all-day dining menu, serving favorites without interruption from 12 noon to 10 p.m. “This also allows families with small children to feed them at any convenient time,” Edwin adds.

Edwin loves to promote the restaurant’s BBQ Night on Tuesday, serving dinner hot off the grill under the stars, al fresco, “it doesn’t get any better than that,” he promises.

To find out “What’s Cooking”, consult the board or Edwin anytime as he easily speaks to guests about the restaurant’s signature dishes, which change nightly.

Edwin, quien estudió Administración Hotelera en su natal Colombia, en Sudamérica, comenzó su carrera en Costa Linda Beach Resort como Auditor nocturno.

Su don excepcional de comunicación rápidamente lo subió en la escala ejecutiva de su trabajo de horarios extras, a una posición más visible durante horas de más actividad del resort. Edwin continuó distinguiéndose cuando trabajaba como camarero en el bar del vestíbulo, hablando con los clientes y estableciendo relaciones de larga duración con los propietarios del resort.

Para los últimos años como administrador de la noche en la operación de Alimentos y Bebidas Edwin presta especial atención a

la cena, convirtiéndola en lo más tropical y romántica como es posible con el arreglo de los jardines de Frangipani, mientras que The Turtle’s Nest está cerrado por obras. “Damos la bienvenida a su casa a los propietarios de tiempo compartido”, dice Edwin, “con un gran aprecio, estamos aquí para servirles, y esperamos que encuentren nuestra selección de alimentos refrescantes y un reflejo de sus necesidades especiales, anhelos y deseos.”

Los huéspedes de Frangipani también tienen la opción de comer, a un precio razonable comidas ligeras en cualquier momento, con el menú del restaurante abierto todo el día, sirviendo los favoritos sin interrupción desde las 12 del mediodía a 10 p.m. “Esto también

permite a las familias con niños pequeños darles de comer en el momento que crean conveniente”, agrega Edwin.

Edwin le encanta promover la noche del martes de BBQ en el restaurante, sirviendo la cena a la parrilla bajo las estrellas, al aire libre, “no hay nada mejor que eso”, promete.

Sign up for some of the daily activities we offer and meet your fellow guests, take a sailboat or kayak out on the bay or try your hand at a new water sport; diving, snorkeling and even windsurfing classes can be arranged. You can stay in shape at the gym and if all of this sounds too strenuous, plan a morning at the Spa and treat yourself to some pampering! Need more ideas? Visit the Concierge Desk in the lobby and start planning your vacation.

Hit the Beach Costa Linda is located on Eagle Beach, one of the most beautiful beaches on Aruba.

Safe and sheltered, its cool white sands, shallow waters and plentiful shade make it ideal for children and it is also popular with local families.

Shade huts, sun loungers and beach chairs are available on a first come first serve basis for the use of registered Costa Linda members and guests from 7:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. Remember to take all your belongings with you when you leave the beach. You’ll find a complete list of beach and pool rules in the Resort Tips section of this magazine, please take a few moments to read them.

Eagle Beach is a public beach and there are no lifeguards so you swim at your own risk.

Velero sin complicaciones

Eagle Beach es una playa pública y no cuenta con salvavidas, por lo que nada bajo su propio riesgo.

Los horarios del tour de kayak son de 9 a.m. a 4 p.m. y el uso de kayaks es bajo su propia responsabilidad. Los niños deben ser acompañados por un adulto y sólo se permiten dos adultos máximo por kayak.

Plain Sailing The calm waters of Eagle Beach are ideal for kayaks and sail boating and as a Costa Linda member or guest you are entitled to the complimentary use of a kayak for one hour per suite. Reservations are taken at the Towel Desk or you can call Ext. 647.

Kayak hours are from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the use of kayaks is at your own risk.

Children must be accompanied by an adult and a maximum of two adults is permitted per kayak.

Pool Fun Spend hours of watery fun in the resort pool enjoying organized activities such as volleyball and pool aerobics or simply relax pool side and cool off in the Jacuzzis after your sunbathing session.

If you have small children take them to the Kids Pool, it is suitable for tots up to six years old.

Pool and Jacuzzi hours are from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Please abide by the pool rules and help us keep the pool area clean.

After swimming and splashing in the Kids Pool, take the little ones to the beachfront play area designed specially for them. The Kids Play Gym is suitable for children under the age of 12 and there are a variety of complimentary events during the week.

Fitness Center Keep up with your daily workout at the Fitness Center where you’ll find a variety of exercise machines to help you stay in shape. The gym staff is on hand to help you and provide towels to dry the equipment.

Please wear proper attire: shirt, shorts and sneakers. Children under the age of 15 must be accompanied by an adult. The gym is located beside the elevator landing (A-B Wing) on the lobby level and is open daily from 7 a.m. – 8 p.m.

Anyone for Tennis?

Challenge your friends to a game, there are two lighted tennis courts located to the south of the main entrance of the resort. Court hours are from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. You may use the courts for one hour a day. Reservations can be made at the Front Desk or call Ext. 5 or 6.

Activities for All Have we got a week of fun lined up for you! Join in the activities organized for adults and children during the week. There’s something different every day ranging from pool and beach games to arts and crafts, bingo and live steel band music for adults. Keep the children busy with jewelry making, finger painting and sand castles, a tug of war and a scavenger hunt on the beach.

Activities are subject to change and for a complete line up, check the activities board located adjacent to the Tour Desk in the lobby entrance, or visit the Activities Booth below the kiddies pool, Ext 647.

Sun Tips It is easy to get carried away when sunbathing at the beginning of your vacation, especially if you are from a cold northern climate.

Don’t overdo it, painful sunburn will spoil your fun. Take care and always use sun block with the SPF (at least 15) suitable for your skin type. Choose environmentally friendly sun products and apply regularly after going in the water.

If you are going snorkeling it is a good idea to wear a t-shirt. The hottest time of the day is between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., and remember that you can still get burnt even when it is cloudy or breezy.

Tips para tomar el sol Es muy fácil broncearse al inicio de sus vacaciones, en especial si usted viene de un clima frío. Evite sobreponerse al sol, tome sus precauciones y use protector solar con SPF (por lo menos 15) según su tipo de piel. Please take a few minutes to read this section and familiarize yourself with resort services, policies and procedures. While we try to keep the do’s and don’ts to a minimum, rules exist to ensure that all our owners and guests enjoy their vacation and to help staff maintain the resort in tiptop condition.

Legal Matters Access to the Costa Linda Beach Resort is controlled and all owners and guests must register at the Front Desk upon arrival. The Resort assumes no responsibility for those not properly registered. The use of resort facilities is reserved exclusively for Costa Linda owners and guests.

Costa Linda is a family resort and swearing, topless and nude bathing, drugs and public drunkenness are not tolerated. Please take note that the legal drinking age on Aruba is 18 and an ID is required. No loud music or parties after 11 p.m. The Board reserves the right to assess a fine of up to one week’s maintenance fee if the resort regulations are violated.

Your Resort Home When you stay at the Resort, you are not a guest in a hotel, you own your suite during the interval purchased. The Resort is not a hotel, nor is it managed as such. Accepting this fundamental difference is essential to understanding why compensation is not permitted for any minor inconvenience you might encounter during your visit.

As in your home, unexpected problems can occur. If a drain clogs or the safe will not open, call the Front Desk for assistance.

You can be assured the matter will be taken care of as quickly as possible, often within minutes.

Furthermore, situations sometimes occur as a result of miscommunication or human error. Accidents will happen. Rather than expecting some form of complimentary compensation, a sincere apology from Front Desk personnel should suffice.

Guests who insist upon complimentary compensation for inconvenience or honest mistakes must understand and accept the difference between hotel and Resort Management. Unlike hotels, the Costa Linda Beach Resort is nonprofit. Owner dues cover operating expenses only. There are no funds to cover free dinners, extra nights, or gifts. The cost of such compensatory awards would come directly from owner dues.

The Costa Linda Beach Resort is your vacation home. If a problem arises please report it. Staff members will do everything possible to make your stay pleasant and comfortable, but they are not permitted to offer, nor allowed to give, free gifts. You can expect an apology for an inconvenience, but not a reward.

Occupancy Limits The maximum number of persons allowed per unit is six (6) in the two-bedroom suite and a maximum of eight (8) in the supreme suite (three-bedroom).

Each child counts as one person. Extra guests will be assigned to another suite, at the normal daily hotel rate. All occupants of the suite must be registered on the reverse side of the registration card at check-in.

Travelers checks are accepted at the resort and can be cashed at the Front Desk between 7 a.m. and 10:30 p.m. There is a daily limit of $100 US per room per day.

TROUBLESHOOTING - If you have a wireless connection and are not automatically directed to the “wifiaruba” website, enter in to your browser address bar: www.pas. wifiaruba.com. This will forward you to the correct website and you may proceed to STEP 3.

Stunning Transformation underway at Costa Linda These are exciting times at the Costa Linda Beach Resort, a true Renaissance for the popular Caribbean island paradise, which is in the midst of a $13.6 million dollar makeover – the first in its 20 - year history.

With the first phase of the multi-year construction project wrapping up, nearly a third of the 155 suites in this ocean side resort on the Island of Aruba have already been completed. They are beautifully appointed, with such top-of-the-line improvements as granite counter tops and custom cabinets in the kitchen and bathrooms, stainless steel appliances, and, all new tile throughout the suites and patios.

The renovation project includes structural changes that create an open and spacious atmosphere, as well as a huge, new 30 COSTA LINDA NEWS

master bath with a beautifully tiled, gigantic Roman shower and double sinks.

Just about everything in all the suites will be new when the project is completed next year – from draperies and rugs, lamps and chandeliers to art accessories, art work and spectacular photographs of the Island of Aruba taken by one of Costa Linda’s very own timeshare owners.

CLBR owners and guests will enjoy all new bedding, including a coordinated interior décor with bed skirts, bed scarves, duvet coverlets, pillow shams and decorative pillows – not to mention brand new top hospitality - rated mattresses and pillows.

Also, all living rooms and bedrooms in the resort’s 139 two-bedroom and 16 threebedroom suites have brand new flat screen

TVs equipped with BluRay DVD player.

Dramatic seascapes, landscapes and familiar scenes around the Island captured in breathtaking photographs that are mounted and hung will provide dramatic focal points for all the bedrooms in all suites at Costa Linda. Meanwhile, colorful tropical abstracts will adorn the walls of the living and entry areas.

The multi-year renovations project is being conducted in phases to minimize disruption and allow owners and guests to be able to enjoy their vacation weeks at the resort throughout the renovation. Those whose suites are being remodeled during their vacation weeks are relocated to another suite at the resort.

Most of the major construction is taking place during the maintenance weeks, generally late May through October. This will also ensure that there will be suites available at any given time for those owners whose units are under construction.

In addition to the interior transformation of the suites, Costa Linda is also undergoing extensive reconstruction of its main restaurant facility.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be served at this new seaside eatery, which will feature an outdoor bar and eating terrace, and indoor/outdoor dining in a new structure with floor to ceiling sliding glass doors, to take full advantage of the incomparable sunsets, ocean views and island breezes.

Owners at CLBR wanted a renovation that provides that “wow” factor and still retains the feel and ambiance of the casual Caribbean paradise they love. And judging thus far from owner reactions, they are getting just that. A visit to Costa Linda Beach Resort will mean enjoying luxurious yet casually elegant accommodations at truly one of the most spectacular beaches in the world.

Smith donated the images to the community, as he so enjoys Costa Linda that, with his wife, Janet, he owns over 25 weeks here – and uses about 13 of them personally. A member of the Costa Linda board since August 2009, Smith is not only a photographer hobbyist and a retired computer executive; he’s also intimately familiar with Aruba.

Although Smith hasn’t lived in this Dutch-Caribbean destination fulltime since he left for college stateside in 1960 – his parents, Americans, raised their family on the island because his father worked in a refinery for the Exxon affiliate in Seroe Colorado – Smith was born here and stayed through high school . That’s where he met the love of his life, Janet, who grew up here under similar circumstances.

The pair celebrated their 50th anniversary at the resort in July 2010 surrounded by their children and grandchildren.

Today the two reside in Salem, South Carolina, where Smith first started getting serious about using his cameras. “I was just an average family photographer,” he says, when they settled in Salem in 1995.

First he felt the calling to take pictures of nearby waterfalls. Then he expanded his interest to sports at nearby Clemson University. By practicing, reading instructional books and learning how to improve images via Photoshop software, Smith became more adept with his camera. Today, he has thousands of images from his travels, the most recent ones taken with either a Canon 1Ds Mark III or a 5D Mark II. You can see the complete collection at www.pbase.com/scsnapper.

When discussing décor options for the renovation, a fellow board member suggested that Smith’s photos might be a good choice. Ultimately, he and his team narrowed his portfolio down to 100 viable options and then Smith and fellow board member Linda Rapaport “whittled down” that list to the six that were ultimately selected.

Aruba was first settled by an Amerindian tribe called the Caiquetios. Rock paintings and fragments of pottery dating from around A.D. 1,000 have been found on the island. The first European to visit Aruba was the Spanish explorer Alonso de Ojeda in 1499 and in 1636 it became a Dutch colony. The name Aruba is derived from the words “ore” and “ruba” or red gold, a reference to the discovery of gold on the island in 1824.

In 1986, Aruba won its independence from The Netherlands Antilles and has status aparte or autonomy within the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

Where in the World?

Aruba is 19.6 miles long and 6 miles across, totaling 77 square miles or 193 square kilometers. Aruba is located 12° 30’ North Latitude; 68° 58’ West Longitude; 19 miles north of the Venezuelan coast, 990 nautical miles from Miami and 890 nautical miles from the Equator. Aruba is situated on the Caribbean Tectonic Plate. The island is made up of limestone-capped hills and ridges, with cliffs on the northern and northeastern coasts and coral reefs on the southern coast. Aruba’s terrain is almost entirely flat.

The highest elevation, Mount Jamanota, is only 188 m above sea level. Rock formations characterize the interior of the island.

Oranjestad Nestled on the shores of Paardenbaai (bay of the horses), island capital Oranjestad sprang up at the end of the 18th century. The island’s oldest monument is Fort Zoutman, built to guard the young town in 1796. The Willem III Tower was added in 1868 to function as a lighthouse, it was named after the Dutch ruler of that time.

Many of the city’s founders were merchants from Curaçao and they continued the tradition of commerce in their new home. Today Oranjestad is a peaceful and picturesque town, its streets lined with Dutch colonial gabled houses and modern buildings such as shops, malls, banks and offices that echo the architectural style of yesteryear.

Spend your time in Oranjestad browsing through the many stores, malls and markets, dining or visiting several small museums and galleries. Cava G.F. Croes, Havenstraat, Zoutmanstraat, Wilheminastraat and the waterfront boulevard are the principal streets. The port hums with activity when cruise ships dock and an impromptu floating market springs up at the wharf every morning when island fishermen and farmers gather to sell their wares.

Located in Fort Zoutman, the History Museum has informative displays on the island’s past and local traditions. The Archaeological Museum on Zoutmanstraat is an introduction to the ancient inhabitants of Aruba and their legacy. Artifacts on display include pottery, art, stone tools and burial urns recovered at archeological sites throughout the island. Visit the Kunsthuis art gallery, café and cultural center where the entertainment program includes concerts, theater, movies and exhibitions.

Beach Hopping Eagle Beach is so beautiful that it would be hard to tire of it, however if you like beach hopping, the island has some of the finest pearly white strands in the Caribbean, each one with its own charm.

Located on the northwestern tip of the island, Arashi Beach and Boca Catalina are sheltered, making them popular snorkeling and swimming spots. Palm Beach is the island’s most famous and busiest beach and the location for many of its most popular waterfront restaurants and bars. Traveling south from Eagle Beach, Manchebo, Punta Brabo and Druif are all picturesque spots.

Mangel Haito is a secluded cove that is ideal for swimming and snorkeling. The coral reef is so close to the coast that shore diving is possible. The shallow and sheltered bays of Rogers and Baby Beach are popular with visitors and locals alike and boast shade huts and food stands.

Spanish Lagoon Wetlands Legend has it that the Spanish Lagoon was once a hideaway for pirates, whether this is true or not, the quiet waterway and the surrounding mangroves are a haven for wildlife, including herons, osprey, owls and parrots. The lagoon is located between Pos Chiquito Bay and the ruins of the Balashi Gold Mine. Follow the nature trail from the lagoon through the wetlands to Balashi and the Cunucu di Aloe plantation.

Arikok National Park

Protecting one third of the island’s surface, Arikok National Park is a patchwork of rolling hills covered in cacti and bent divi trees, strange rock formations (lava, quartz diorite and limestone), caves and a stretch of coastline with beaches, dunes and rock platforms.

Other sites of interest on the island include San Nicolas, the second largest town which grew up around the oil refinery and attracted workers from many of the British Caribbean islands. Migrating from all over the world to the waters of the Caribbean, sea turtles come to build nests in the warm sands. Though hunting, development, and ecosystem degradation have placed these animals on the endangered species list, people like those of Turtugaruba are making Aruba a safe and welcoming home for the returning sea turtle.

Light pollution, coastal development, or simply the presence of unwanted company can keep a mother sea turtle from safely and securely nesting her eggs.

Turtugaruba is a nonprofit organization fueled by active volunteers and donations from members. Every morning during the season, Turtugaruba’s volunteers comb the beaches for signs of nesting.

Fences are built to protect nesting sites from potential threats. Volunteers and veteran turtle watchers keep awareness high around these guarded locations. And, when the hatchlings finally make their way to the shore, the nests are studied and left to remain part of the ecosystem. Turtugaruba also provides lectures to hotel personnel, dive operators and schools as well as raising public awareness throughout the island.

The survival of sea turtles as a species is important for both land and sea ecosystems. Sea turtles keep sea grass at a manageable level for all the other creatures of the sea and on land, their nesting sites provide vital resources for marine life on the beach. Costa Linda Aruba with the help of Turtugaruba continues to make Aruba a safer home for returning sea turtles.

Turtugaruba Aunque las amenazas a las tortuguitas recién nacidas son muchas, cuentan con un aliado en las costas de Aruba. Los voluntarios de Turtugaruba trabajan en equipo para proteger a nuestras conchudas amigas de los peligros del mundo moderno. La contaminación por la luz, desarrollo costero, o simplemente la presencia de compañía indeseable, puede evitar que una tortuga marina pueda hacer un nido para depositar sus huevos de manera segura.

Turtugaruba es una organización no-lucrativa sostenida por voluntarios activos y donaciones de sus miembros. Cada mañana, durante la temporada, los voluntarios de Turtugaruba peinan las playas buscando señales de nidos. Se ponen cercas para proteger los sitios de anidación contra amenazas potenciales. Los voluntarios, junto con expertos observadores de tortugas, se mantienen muy al pendiente alrededor de estas ubicaciones protegidas. Y cuando las tortuguitas finalmente salen del cascarón y se dirigen al mar, se hace un estudio de los nidos y se dejan para que sean parte del ecosistema.

Turtugaruba también les da pláticas al personal de los hoteles, operadores de buceo y a las escuelas, así como tiene actividades para concientizar al público en toda la isla.

Leatherback The leatherback sea turtle is the sole nester of Eagle beach and the low-rise hotel area.

The leatherback holds many records in the turtle world. They are the largest, deepest diving, and call more countries home than any of their shelled counterparts. In the average lifetime of 45 years, only the female

leatherbacks will come ashore after birth.

Although many live in cooler, deeper waters where their favorite dish - jellyfish - is served, every few years the females will return to the beach where they were born to nest a bale of her own hatchlings. Though 70-80 eggs can be laid up to eleven times in a season, only approx one in 1000 leatherbacks born will live to adulthood.

Tortuga Laúd La tortuga marina laúd es la única que anida en la playa “Eagle Beach” y en la zona hotelera de baja densidad. La tortuga laúd tiene muchos records en el mundo de las tortugas.

Son las más grandes, las que se sumergen

más profundo, y las que se encuentran en el mayor número d países del mundo; más que cualquier otra contraparte de caparazón. En el transcurso de su vida de 45 años, sólo la tortuga laúd hembra visita la playa después de su nacimiento.. Aunque muchas viven en aguas más frías y profundas donde se sirve su platillo favorito – las aguamalas, cada varios años las hembras regresan a la playa en la que nacieron para hacer un nido y reproducir su propia prole de tortuguitas. Aunque pueden depositar de 70 a 80 huevos hasta once veces en la temporada, sólo unas 1,000 tortuguitas laúd vivirán para llegar a ser adultas.
