Costa Linda is located on Eagle Beach, one of the most beautiful beaches on Aruba. Safe and sheltered, its cool white sands, shallow waters and plentiful shade make it ideal for children and it is also popular with local families. Shade huts, sun loungers and beach chairs are available on a first come first serve basis for the use of registered Costa Linda members and guests from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Remember to take all your belongings with you when you leave the beach. You’ll find a complete list of beach and pool rules in the Resort tips section of this magazine, please take a few moments to read them. Eagle Beach is a public beach and there are no lifeguards so you swim at your own risk.

Keep up with your daily workout at the Fitness Center where you’ll find a variety of exercise machines to help you stay in shape. The gym staff is on hand to help you and provide for your every need.

Please wear proper attire: shirt, shorts and sneakers. Youths under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

The minimum age for the Gym is 15 years old. The Gym is located beside the elevator landing (A-B Wing) on the lobby level and is open daily from 7 a.m. - 8 p.m.

After swimming and splashing in the kids pool, take the little ones to the beachfront play area designed specifically for them. The kids play gym is suitable for children under the age of 12 and there are a variety of complimentary events during the week.

You must supervise your children at all times and ensure that there is no rough play on the equipment that may endanger their safety. The use of the installations is at your own risk.

Spend hours of watery fun in the resort pool enjoying organized activities such as volleyball and pool aerobics or simply relax pool side and cool off in the Jacuzzis after your sunbathing session. Small children will love the kids pool. It is suitable for tots up to six years old.

Pool and Jacuzzi hours are from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Please abide by the pool rules and help us keep the pool area clean.

LO MEJOR DE LA PLAYA Costa Linda está localizado en Eagle Beach, una de las playas más hermosas en Aruba. GETTING YOUR BEARINGS

The calm waters of Eagle Beach are ideal for kayaks and sail boating and as a Costa Linda member or guest you are entitled to the complimentary use of a kayak for one hour per suite.

Reservations are taken at the Towel desk or you can call Ext. 7224.

Kayak hours are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the use of kayaks is at your own risk. Children must be accompanied by an adult and a maximum of two adults is permitted per kayak.

Don’t miss the orientation briefing on Saturday at 9 a.m in the Lobby. This informative chat will help you get your bearings and find out about all the activities available at the resort and around the island.

VELERO SENCILLO Las tranquilas aguas de Eagle Beach son excelentes para practicar kayak y navegar en velero, como socio o huésped de Costa Linda tiene derecho al uso gratuito de kayak por una hora por suite. Reservaciones en el módulo de toallas o llame a la Ext. 7224. Los horarios del tour de kayak son de 9 a.m. a 3 p.m. y el uso de kayaks es bajo su propia responsabilidad. Los niños deben ser acompañados por un adulto y sólo se permiten dos adultos máximo por kayak.

DIVERSIÓN EN LA PISCINA Relájese en la alberca y pase uno de los momentos más divertidos al participar en actividades grupales como aeróbicos y voleibol acuático y luego refrésquese en los jacuzzis. A los niños pequeños les encantará la alberca infantil, perfectas para pequeños hasta de seis años de edad.

La alberca y el jacuzzi están disponibles de 9 a.m. a 9 p.m. Por favor ayúdenos a mantener limpia el área de la alberca.

There’s something different every day ranging from pool and beach games to arts and crafts, bingo and live steel band music for adults. Keep the children busy with jewelry making, finger painting and sand castles, a tug of war and a scavenger hunt on the beach.

Activities are subject to change and for a complete line up, check the activities board located adjacent to the Tour Desk in the lobby entrance, or visit the Activities booth below the kiddies pool, Ext. 7224.

SUN TIPS It is easy to get carried away when sunbathing at the beginning of your vacation, especially if you are from a cold northern climate. Don’t overdo it, painful sunburn will spoil your fun. Take care and always use sun block with the SPF (at least 15) suitable for your skin type. Choose environmentally friendly sun products and apply regularly after going in the water.

If you are going snorkeling it is a good idea to wear a T-shirt. The hottest time of the day is between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., and remember that you can still get burnt even when it is cloudy or breezy.

TIPS PARA TOMAR EL SOL Es muy fácil broncearse al inicio de sus vacaciones, en especial si usted viene de un clima frío. Evite sobrexponerse al sol, tome sus precauciones y use protector solar con FPS (por lo menos 15) según su tipo de piel. Elija productos que no dañen el ambiente y aplíquelo de manera frecuente después de nadar.

Si va a esnorquelear le recomendamos usar una playera. El sol está más intenso entre las 11 a.m. y las 2 p.m., así que protéjase aunque esté nublado o haya viento.

Officially starting in November, the majority of events, celebrations and parades are held in January and February until the Burning of King Momo, marking the end of Carnival Season. After the Burning of King Momo the entire island goes on hiatus, known as Carnival Monday (official day of rest). For those of you who have not yet experienced this colorful, grand affair discover what Carnival in Aruba is all about!

Access to the Costa Linda Beach Resort is controlled and all owners and guests must register at the Front desk upon arrival. The Resort assumes no responsibility for those not properly registered. The use of resort facilities is reserved exclusively for Costa Linda owners and guests.

Costa Linda is a family resort and swearing, topless and nude bathing, drugs and public drunkenness are not tolerated. Please take note that the legal drinking age on Aruba is 18 and an ID is required. No loud music or parties after 11 p.m. The Board reserves the right to assess a fine of up to one week’s maintenance fee if the resort regulations are violated.

YOUR RESORT HOME When you stay at the Resort, you are not a guest in a hotel, you own your suite during the interval purchased. The Resort is not a hotel, nor is it managed as such. Accepting this fundamental difference is essential to understand why compensation is not permitted for any minor inconvenience you might encounter during your visit.

As in your home, unexpected problems can occur. If a drain clogs or the safe will not open, call the Front desk for assistance. You can be assured the matter will be taken care of as quickly as possible, often within minutes. Furthermore, situations sometimes occur as a result of miscommunication or human error. Accidents will happen. Rather than expecting some form of complimentary compensation, a sincere apology from Front Desk personnel should suffice.

Guests who insist upon complimentary compensation for inconvenience or honest mistakes must understand and accept the difference between hotel and Resort Management. Unlike hotels, Costa Linda Beach Resort is nonprofit. Owner dues cover operating expenses only. There are no funds to cover free dinners, extra nights, or gifts. The cost of such compensatory awards would come directly from owner dues. Costa Linda Beach Resort is your vacation home. If a problem arises please report it. Staff members will do everything possible to make your stay pleasant and comfortable, but they are not permitted to offer, nor allowed to give, free gifts. You can expect an apology for an inconvenience, but not a reward.

Please check the inventory for your suite and report any missing or broken items immediately on the verification sheet. Sign it and take it to the Front Desk the same day. Any missing or broken items will be charged to your room account upon check out. You are responsible for any damage to the suite and its contents.

Check out is 12 noon. There may be one hospitality room available for usage after this time. Please respect check out time, a late fee of $100 US is charged per hour or part thereof. The resort reserves the right to move your personal belongings and keep them in storage.

All suites are equipped with satellite color televisions.

Each Suite is equipped with safety deposit box located in the master and guest bedroom. Please store your valuables in the safe. The Resort is not responsible for lost items, stolen or damaged in your suite or public areas.

Daily Housekeeping service is available Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. No service on Sundays and local holidays. If you would like to have your room cleaned at a specific time between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m., please inform your housekeeper or call the Housekeeping Office at Ext. 7411.

On Sundays your towels will be changed, toiletries will be replenished and trash cans will be emptied. We kindly request that you keep your room as clean as possible.

Please do not hang towels or clothes on your balcony railing. Use the laundry line in the bathroom and the towel racks on the decks. A Housekeeping surcharge may be applied if your room requires additional cleaning.

Costa Linda Beach Resort has installed a state of the art environmentally friendly “Smart Thermostat” system as part of its ongoing commitment to our owners and the community at large. The Smart Thermostat system senses when the Suite is unoccupied and will raise the thermostat set point to an economical humidity control setting until the moment a guest returns to the room.

Please allow a few minutes for the room to cool to your selected temperature upon your return. Please be aware that the air conditioning unit will be interrupted if you should leave a door open. This prevents harmful mold issues, humidity damage and energy waste.

Become a member of our Guest Vision Program; an extra pair of eyes to help us keep the resort looking beautiful!

For immediate attention to a problem in your suite please call the “We Care Agent” at Ext. 7402 who will gladly take care of your request. An agent is on duty from 8 a.m. to 12 noon and 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday.

At all other times and on weekends, please call the Front Desk at Ext. 7202.

Beach and Pool Rules Reglamento de albercas y playa

• No se permiten niños menores de tres años en la piscina principal. Niños que no usen pañal, con pañales o swimmiesare no se permitiden en la piscina principal. Esta regla se aplica estrictamente. Por favor, utilice la piscina para “bebés”. Los niños de tres a cinco años de edad lo pueden hacer sólo si son supervisados por un adulto y los mayores de seis años pueden utilizarla, únicamente si saben nadar. En todo caso, utilizar la alberca infantil.

•Y ou may sign out towels with the room keys. Only one

towel may be issued per person per day and you should return them before 6 p.m. to obtain a clean towel in the morning. The penalty is $15 US if you misplace a towel.

All towels must be returned prior to check out. The Towel Hut is located in front of the kiddies playground and is open daily from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Ext. 7414.

•D o not leave personal

DO NOT RESERVE MORE THAN 1 CHICKEE HUT PER ROOM. All chaise lounges will be available for use from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on a first come, first serve basis. The hotel reserves the right to remove belongings in the event a chaise lounge and/or a hut is left unattended for more than two hours. The removed items will be held at the Towel Hut and can be retrieved between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m.

persons suffering from diabetes, heart disease or high blood pressure, pregnant women, persons under the influence of alcohol or medication which can cause drowsiness. No children under the age of 15 years are permitted. There is a 10-minute limit for each Jacuzzi. Do not put soap in the Jacuzzi.

Safety Tips Tips de Seguridad

Although there is 24-hour security at Costa Linda Resort and Aruba is a safe travel destination, we recommend that you follow these guidelines.

• Do not answer the door of your suite without verifying who it is. Call the Front Desk if in doubt.

• When returning to the Resort late in the evening, use the main entrance.

Be observant and look around the parking lots.

• Keep the doors closed and locked when you are in your suite.

• Do not leave your guest keys on restaurant tables, at the pool or in other public areas where they could be stolen.

• Do not draw attention to yourself by displaying large amounts of cash or expensive jewelry.

• Do not invite strangers to your suite.

• Store cash, valuables and documents in the in-room safe.

• Do not leave valuables in your vehicle.

• Report any suspicious activity to the Management by calling Ext. 7202.

Historic Landmark De Torre de Agua a Monumento Histórico A water shortage which occurred in Aruba at the beginning of the 20th century resulted in the establishment of a water supply service in 1928, whereby wells would be dug in order to provide free water to the island’s residents. During the 1930’s, the water tower was built in San Nichols along with a sea water distillation plant up the coast in nearby Balashi, which is how Aruba was able to establish its own water distribution network.

The system served the grateful people of Aruba for many decades. Yet, following numerous technological advances over the past few years, it became obvious that the water tower was no longer needed.

A plan was drafted that would restore the tower for use as an historical monument, and on March 8, 2013, the transformation was completed. Finally in 2016, the Museum of Industry opened its doors to the public. Once inside the museum, you will discover how various natural resources of the island helped to establish Aruba’s thriving economy. Oil is one such resource. Amazingly at one point, Aruba housed the world’s largest oil refinery which supplied oil to the Allies during WWII. The first European to visit Aruba was the Spanish explorer Alonso de Ojeda in 1499 and in 1636 it became a Dutch colony. The name Aruba is derived from the words “ore” and “ruba” or red gold, a reference to the discovery of gold on the island in 1824. In 1986, Aruba won its independence from The Netherlands Antilles and has status apart or autonomy within the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

The island is made up of limestone capped hills and ridges, with cliffs on the northern and northeastern coasts and coral reefs on the southern coast. Aruba’s terrain is almost entirely flat. The highest elevation, Mount Jamanota, is only 188 m. above sea level. Rock formations characterize the interior of the island.

The Aruban climate has little variation from yearly average of a sunny 81°F or 27°C tempered by northeasterly trade winds. Aruba is out of the range of the Caribbean hurricanes. A word of caution, though, the sun is strongest between 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. and using a protective sunscreen is highly recommended.

Within the park, you’ll find numerous magnificent lava formations, spectacular quartz and limestone infused hills, fossilized coral and white sandy beaches. But it is the caves of Aruba which are perhaps the park’s most popular attraction.

In the deep recesses of rock along the island’s windswept coast are three intriguing cave formations that have been rewarding visitors for decades with their mysterious stalagmite and stalactite imbued underground chambers. Along with the fascinating ancient Indian rock drawings which line the walls, the caves also serve as a home to families of nocturnal bats, which, fortunately, are quite harmless.

The caves were initially linked to the Amerindians, a semi-nomadic tribe believed to have inhabited the island 4000 years ago. They were followed by the Arawak Indians during the period of around 1000 AD, as evidenced by the paintings and carvings which line the walls of the caves.

The Guadirikiri Cave is notable for its two large dome-shaped chambers which are illuminated by sunlight because of the large holes at the top.

Although smaller in size, the Fontein Cave on the northeast side of the island is the most popular of the caves due to its breathtaking stalagmite formations and colorful wall etchings from the Arawak Indians. Finally, there is the Huliba Cave which has been nicknamed The Tunnel of Love due to its heart-shaped entrance.

Emphasizing the caves’ historic value, the government of Aruba issued commemorative postage stamps in April of 2009 depicting images of the entryway to each of the three caves.

Spend your time in Oranjestad browsing through the many stores, malls and markets, dining or visiting several small museums and galleries. Caya Betico Croes, Havenstraat, Zoutmanstraat, Wilheminastraat and the waterfront boulevard are the principal streets. The port hums with activity when cruise ships dock and an impromptu floating market springs up at the wharf every morning when island fishermen and farmers gather to sell their wares.

Located in Fort Zoutman, the History Museum has informative displays on the island’s past and local traditions. The Archaeological Museum on Zoutmanstraat is an introduction to the ancient inhabitants of Aruba and their legacy. Artifacts on display include pottery, art, stone tools and burial urns recovered at archeological sites throughout the island.

Visit the Kunsthuis art gallery, café and cultural center where the entertainment program includes concerts, theater, movies and exhibitions.

Legend has it that the Spanish Lagoon was once a hideaway for pirates, whether this is true or not, the quiet waterway and the surrounding mangroves are a haven for wildlife, including herons, osprey, owls and parrots. Other sites of interest on the island include San Nicolas, the second largest town which grew up around the oil refinery and attracted workers from many of the British Caribbean islands. They kept their own customs, including calypso, carnival, steel bands and cuisine and the community has a unique ambiance. Visitors can go into the bush to explore the ruins of the 19th century gold smelters at Bushiribana and Balashi or the rock formations at Casibari and Ayo. The Donkey Sanctuary in Santa Lucia was founded in 1997 to provide a home for stray animals and for a glimpse of Africa you can also call in at the Ostrich Farm.

ARIKOK NATIONAL PARK

Protecting one third of the island’s surface, Arikok National Park is a patchwork of rolling hills covered in cacti and bent divi trees, strange rock formations (lava, quartz diorite and limestone), caves and a stretch of coastline with beaches, dunes and rock platforms.

The arid landscape is home to a surprising variety of birds including the endemic shoko or Aruba burrowing owl and prikichi or parakeet, orioles and hummingbirds, snakes, lizards, iguanas, wild donkeys and goats. Despite its inhospitable appearance, Arikok has been inhabited for thousands of years. Rock paintings in Fontein Cave and on huge boulders and the vestiges of ancient villages are testimony to the earliest Amerindian inhabitants.

The park is also dotted with stone dwellings or cunucu which date from the Colonial period and housed the poorest settlers and their estate workers. A network of trails traverses the park and guided tours are available.

Con un tercio de la superficie de la isla, el Parque Nacional Arikok es un mosaico de colinas cubiertas de cáctus y árboles divi-divi, extrañas formaciones de roca (lava, cuarzo y piedra caliza), cuevas y una franja de línea costera con playas, dunas y plataformas rocosas.

The prevailing trade winds that blow across Aruba at a constant 15 knots cause choppy conditions along the windward shore, making beaches like Boca Grandi unsuitable for swimming and snorkeling but highly desirable for experienced windsurfers, kite boarders and surfers. Indeed, the island has its own windsurfing community and over the past few years, several local windsurfers have triumphed in international tournaments. The island also hosts the annual Hi-Winds Amateur World Challenge Windsurfing competition.

If you would like to learn how to windsurf and feel the thrill of coursing through the waves, ask at the Concierge desk about classes available from local water sports centers. You’ll start off on the Leeward coast where the breeze is much gentler. If you are a keen windsurfer, you might like to try kite boarding and see for yourself why it has caught on around the world.

If you are an old hand with a rod and net or you have always wanted to try fishing, the waters around Aruba provide plenty of challenges.

Game fish such as sailfish, blue and white marlin, wahoo, tuna, bonito and dorado are plentiful year-round.

You can charter a boat for a day or a half-day and the experienced crew will take you right to where the fish are running. Help preserve local fish stocks by adhering to the catch and release policy.
