We are steadily approaching more café sessions and advisory days: The Café sessions you may have noticed have changed format slightly in that we are able to offer a guiding hand in preparation to submission of an advisory day, check the details on the RPS webpage. The Regional AGM was held in April at the National Media Museum, members’ representation was sparse and this is a great disappointment as the RPS is a member’s organisation. It is certainly with that in mind we rely heavily upon member involvement. The trustees canceled the scheduled Advisory Board Meeting in March this was due to a review of the Society’s Governance. There is subsequently to be a report on the role of the Advisory Board within the context of a wider review of the Society’s governance, then possibly two separate Advisory Board meetings, one for Group representatives and one for Regional representatives to be held late Spring early Summer.

LRPS Advisory Day at NRM On 6th March 2016, around a dozen or so photographers attended an advisory day at the National Railway Museum, York. The numbers were a little lower than usual for such an event, but it was Mothers’ Day. This unfortunate clash may have been the reason for no female photographers booking in for their LRPS advice - no doubt they’d found somewhere even more exotic than the Railway Museum, even though the Flying Scotsman was there for them. Then again, perhaps the ladies are already way in front when it comes to standards see the ‘Doncaster Ladies’ article on page 3 and images at www.issuu.com . As the Advisory Day started, one chap asked if he could be first, or as soon as possible, because his ‘missis was waiting for him’. Hence the only partially full lecture theatre shown in the photographs. Fortunately, this did allow some in depth discussions and an early finish, leaving time for those who wanted to say ‘hello’ to the Scotsman to do so. The majority remained and after a quick lunch break, they were treated to a viewing of the panel previously submitted for ARPS by Graham Staples. The 15 images demonstrated Graham’s passion for railway and steam, although he did admit that some of the shots were ‘slightly staged’ as he knew some of the drivers and had asked them to whistle before emerging from a tunnel, or prior to some other photogenic show of smoke and steam. So, for those who like all aspects of steam railway monochrome photography, you missed a treat.
