Whether you’re looking to take your skills to the next level or want to try drama for the first time, this dynamic and exciting youth theatre, led by The Core’s Lisa Byrne, is just the place to do that.

Make a new piece and perform at The Core Arts Slam on Fri 21 November.

A two-term training programme for committed performers aged 14 to 21 culminating in a production of a new play as part of the National Theatre Connections Festival.

Develop your voice, movement, script and character skills with visiting artists and The Core’s creative team.

Work with choreographer and vocal coach Phia O’Keeffe to develop your singing, dancing and acting skills as you weave musical numbers into an original showcase performance at The Core Arts Slam on Fri 21 November.

This exciting, lively and fun youth theatre, led by theatre‑maker Emma Boulton‑Roe, encourages young people aged 7 to 11 to bring their imaginations to life, creating an original performance for The Core Arts Slam on Fri 21 November.

Moves Street Dance

A two-term training programme for dancers of all styles and backgrounds aged 14 to 21 culminating in a final production with a nationally-known choreographer. Show your moves and learn new techniques in this high energy dance class combining street, commercial and contemporary styles. Whether you’re a confident dancer or it’s your first time, work with choreographer Leah Waterfield and perform at The Core Arts Slam on Fri 21 November.

Make your own movies from first idea to final cut with award-winning film-maker Martin Steed.

Master cameras, storyboarding, studio lighting and much more as you create an original film for The Core’s big screen.

Your piece will premiere at The Core Arts Slam on Fri 21 November.

Whether you want to start an Arts Award from scratch here at The Core, or you’re already working towards an award at school or college, or you just want to find out more - this fortnightly drop in will give you the advice, support or guidance you need.

Awards are available at Bronze, Silver and Gold levels, with the Gold Award worth UCAS points.

Writing East Midlands Young Writers Group

Produce your own events, projects, festivals and live shows, from coming up with the first idea to getting an audience through the door. Gain skills and experience in event management, programming, marketing, front of house and technical; with support available to achieve Silver or Gold Arts Award.

This vibrant new monthly group will support writers of all styles, from spoken word to short stories and plays to poetry, to develop their skills supported by an established professional writer.

The atmosphere is fun and friendly and focussed on creativity - spelling and punctuation don’t matter here. Those who want to perform their work will have the opportunity to do so, but those who don’t will feel no pressure.

These informal sessions for toddlers and their adults involve song, rhyme and stories to capture little ones’ imaginations while helping with their language development.
