“It’s not breaking a code that matters, it’s where you go from there” Mastermind code breaker. Maverick. Arguably one of the most important and inquisitive minds of the twentieth century. Alan Turing is famed for cracking the Enigma code at Bletchley Park, effectively securing victory for the Allied forces in WWII.
From triumph to tragedy, get to know a human being who loved, lost and never stopped asking questions in a quest for truth and understanding in this fascinating new production of Hugh Whitemore’s Breaking The Code
For the first time, taking into consideration his recent Royal pardon and the development of Turing’s law, the original play will feature a new epilogue by Neil Bartlett that speaks to Turing’s lasting legacy on modern Britain.

Aidan’s lost. His best mate’s starting uni, his mum can’t get out of bed, and his new side hustle has questionable legality. Meanwhile, he’s stacking shelves at the supermarket wondering if this is all he’s cut out for. He’s got hobbies – hanging out at the skate park and doomscrolling his days away.
As he’s lapping up the algorithm, “Hugo Bang” appears with the promise to help Aidan become the alpha he was born to be. Will Hugo Bang help Aidan get his life back on track, or will he lead Aidan to a darker, more dangerous place? Directed by Jesse Jones, this brand-new play by local playwright Samson Hawkins (Village Idiot, Stratford East) crackles with dry humour and a modern-day wit. Transforming the Derngate auditorium into a skatepark. This Made in Northampton production dives headfirst into the influence of online culture, the pull of toxic masculinity, and the search for identity in the digital age.
Whether you’re a teenager trying to figure things out, a parent wondering what’s going on in your child’s world, a teacher looking for new ways to engage, or just someone curious about the chaos of growing up today – don’t miss this bold, funny and unfiltered exploration of masculinity, influence, and identity.
Initially developed through the Generate programme in partnership with Andy Routledge.

A true Christmas classic comes alive this holiday season with White Cobra's staged radio performance of Miracle On 34th Street. The story is based on the famous 1947 film, which was first presented as a radio play at the Lux Radio Theatre.
A formidable Macy's store executive, Doris Walker is desperately searching for a new store Santa Claus. She hires 'Kris Kringle' who insists that he is the real Santa Claus and proves immensely popular. However, when a conflict with the store's incompetent psychologist erupts, Kris finds himself at Bellevue where, in despair, he deliberately fails a psychological test. All seems lost until Doris' friend, Fred Gailey, reassures Kris of his worth and agrees to represent him in the fight to secure his release. Fred arranges a hearing in which he argues that Kris is sane because he is in fact the real Santa Claus!
The White Cobra cast bring alive a lively crew of characters, with radio jingles and sound effects that will delight audiences, young and old.

The new stage phenomenon that has taken the West End by storm now returns, following it's last sell out run in Northampton.
Written by Danny Robins, creator of the hit BBC podcasts Uncanny and The Battersea Poltergeist, 2:22 A Ghost Story comes fresh from record-breaking seasons at five West End theatres with a host of acclaimed star performances. It’s a brilliantly funny and adrenaline-filled night where secrets emerge and ghosts may or may not appear… What do you believe? And do you dare discover the truth?
“There’s something in our house. I hear it every night, at the same time.”
Jenny believes her new home is haunted, but her husband Sam isn’t having any of it. They argue with their first dinner guests, old friend Lauren and new partner Ben. Can the dead really walk again? Belief and scepticism clash, but something feels strange and frightening, and that something is getting closer, so they’re going to stay up… until 2:22… and then they’ll know.

The crowning glory of Broadway, the West End and beyond, the international smash hit musical SIX makes its royal return to Northampton following its previous sell-out success!
Winner of over 35 international awards including the Tony Award for Best Original Score and Best Costume Design, double winner of the Whatsonstage Award for Best West End Show and a Gold Disc-winning album, this sellout Tudor take-off has “an incredibly strong and powerful message” (The Australian) and is “pure entertainment” (New York Times).
From Tudor Queens to Pop Princesses, the six wives of Henry VIII take to the mic to tell their tales, remixing five hundred years of historical heartbreak into an 80-minute celebration of 21st century girl power. These Queens may have green sleeves but their lipstick is rebellious red.
Think you know the rhyme, think again… Divorced. Beheaded. LIVE!
Operation Mincemeat is the 2024 Olivier Award-winning Best New Musical. It’s London’s biggest hit with 77 Five-Star reviews making it the best-reviewed show in West End history. Now also a Tony-nominated Best Musical on Broadway!
The year is 1943 and right now we’re losing the war. Luckily, we’re about to gamble all our futures on a stolen corpse.
Singin’ In The Rain meets Strangers On A Train, Operation Mincemeat is the fast-paced, hilarious and unbelievable true story of the twisted secret mission that won us World War II.
Bursting at the seams with the kind of chaos you couldn’t invent, the question is: how did a dead body, a fake love letter, and – of all people – Ian Fleming come together to wrong-foot Hitler?

Tickets from £28 I 16+
After an alarming experience at the supermarket, Ardal reflects on who he is as a man and a comedian. He examines his own ethnic and religious background. And thinks twice about the very core of his identity as a voice of reason. Is everything a big lie? With no major trauma of his own to draw on for material, apart from the drag of getting older, he also turns his gaze outwards at the joys and follies of contemporary life. Towel animals? A.I.? Chair yoga? Cauliflower as a main course? Yes. Yes. Yes. And Yes. No current idiocy is left un-examined. With a highly developed sense of the ridiculous, and proper comedy bones, Not Himself is a testament to the healing power of humour. And the joy of jokes.
Have you ever been awake in the middle of the night and thought something so smart and astute that you couldn’t wait for the world to wake up so you could tell them? This show is that thought. In that it doesn’t make much sense and is a bit weird on reflection.
Sara Pascoe is a comedian and her children don’t sleep and her kitchen won’t clean itself and her husband “doesn’t want to be in it”.

A DAY TO REMEMBER
Sun 9 November 7.30pm
ROYAL
Tickets from £15
On a single day in May 1915, nearly 11,000 British and Indian soldiers were wounded or killed during the ill-fated Battle of Aubers Ridge. Among them were hundreds of young men from Northamptonshire, many of whom never made it more than a few metres from their trenches.
Performance poet Toby Thompson presents a powerful reflection on the lives lost during this devastating chapter of the First World War. Through vivid and evocative poetry, the piece delves into not only the brutality of the battle but also the youthful hope of the summer of 1914, and how modern generations continue to connect with the legacy of the Great War.
Featuring a rich soundscape by Buster Grey-Jung, and direction by award-winning theatre maker and Artistic Director Jesse Jones, A Day To Remember brings history into sharp focus through the voices of the present.
Originally commissioned by Royal & Derngate in 2015 as part of a wider project exploring the impact of the First World War on local communities.

You will attend monthly sessions and three week-long development programmes that aim to provide skills in devising, creating new work, ensemble theatre making, directing, collaborative writing and
performance skills. You will have opportunities to shadow, gain support with funding and become Royal & Derngate theatre ambassadors.
Over 18 months we expect you to be creating original professional theatre and will automatically enter GenFest 2027.
There are only 10 positions available and we particularly welcome those who may feel traditional education routes are not for them.
In the initial instance you will apply by application form (written or audio) deadline Tuesday 30 September and then will be invited to audition/interview in November with the programme starting in January 2026.
To find out any more information on any of the above, please email getinvolved@royalandderngate.co.uk or visit our website.
SPYMONKEY 5 DAY CLOWN WORKSHOP
What is it that makes you as a performer uniquely funny? How do you share that brilliant, special ridiculousness with an audience so that they are helpless with laughter?
In this five-day introduction to Spymonkey Clown we will focus on how to identify and develop that particular quality of Funny that is special to you, and only you.
You will be supported to develop these comedic skills in a safe, fun and laughter-filled environment. You will find the pleasure in your own ridiculousness, stay optimistic, discover your comedy gold, and get ready to laugh until your face hurts.
We will share many of the methods that Spymonkey have found essential over the years in creating Theatre of the Funny. Toby particularly enjoys using music as a source of comedic inspiration, so we will also look at how song, dance and musicality can lead us to new and unexpected comedic territory.

On days when a performance is scheduled our Counter will open two hours before, and remain open until 15 minutes after the start of the last scheduled performance. If there are no performances the counter remains closed on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. We encourage customers to use cashless payment options in order to reduce contact at our bars and Box Office. We accept all major credit and debit cards, Apple Pay or Google Pay. We don’t accept American Express. You can also pay with National Theatre Tokens or Royal & Derngate gift vouchers.

Under 16s, Over 60s, Students, Job Seekers and Access Patrons may be able to claim a discount on their tickets. Please let us know if you are eligible for a concession at the time of booking and note that at some performances only certain types of concession may apply.
• Stage & Screen Members also often make savings on our regular ticket prices.
• For selected performances an allocation of tickets can be purchased at reduced prices by Groups, who also benefit from extended payment terms. For more information email group.bookings@ royalandderngate.co.uk or call 01604 620066

TICKET DELIVERY
Tickets can be sent electronically free of charge and may be printed at home or displayed on a smart phone upon entry. There is a £3 fee applicable to post your tickets to a UK address. We recommend that we do not post any tickets booked within 10 days of the performance, and
instead will hold them at the Box Office for collection and a £1 fee applies for this service.
TRANSACTION FEE
A non-refundable transaction charge of £4 applies to all bookings of £20 and over, except for Members, Access Patrons and Group Bookers. This charge is only applicable per transaction and not per ticket. The transaction charge exists to support the running costs of Royal & Derngate.
As ticket revenue is divided between many different parties, an increase in ticket prices may not necessarily benefit the theatre. By adding a transaction charge, we ensure that every penny goes directly to Royal & Derngate. We will continue to tell you about these charges when you book tickets with us.
CONDITIONS OF SALE
Once purchased, tickets are non-refundable except where a show is cancelled or postponed. Ticket exchanges may be offered for the same production on payment of a small per ticket fee. For sold out shows we will accept returned tickets for re-sale up to 24 hours prior on the understanding that a gift voucher (less transaction fees) will be provided if the tickets are re-sold. Any tickets found to be sold via an unauthorised agent may be void without refund and the ticket holder refused entry.
When booking, customers now have the option to add refund protection to their tickets via a third-party provider, Booking Protect. This protects your ticket should you be unable to attend a show for reasons outside of your control such as illness. Please visit our website for full details on our conditions of sale.
STAYING IN TOUCH
Our Box Office and website will ask when you book if you wish to receive further information from us about Royal & Derngate’s events and activities. We will record your wishes and use them to inform what you receive from us in future. You can update these preferences at any time by accessing your account via our website or by calling Box Office.
