We hope you all had a great summer! Welcome to the fall edition of our newsletter. We thought we’d give you a brief update on “what’s happening” around here— projects, security, gallery rentals, ongoing sustainability initiatives…..

HVAC Project

The HVAC project in the First Peoples Gallery is well underway and is approximately 85% complete. The units on the roof have been installed, connected and have been turned on. Commissioning to ensure the units are working as intended is now underway and is expected to be completed

Electrical Upgrade •

The electrical upgrade project is also about 85% complete. Only a few more power outages to contend with (sorry about that—the ice wall will again need repair by our ever so clever Exhibition Technicians!). Those big holes for the

in December. Ongoing system and digital controls tweaking will continue January to March 2011.

There is some additional structural upgrade work that still needs to be completed so there will be some more welding work taking place in the attic space on the 3rd floor. The great news is that the capital project is on time and on budget! Once the project is completed, the First Peoples Gallery, similar to the 2nd floor temporary gallery, will have better temperature and relative humidity control to protect and preserve the collections.

Kudos to Tanya Duce who is coordinating both the HVAC and Electrical projects and is keeping the many contractors on track and making every effort to minimize disruption to you and our visitors. Not an easy task with the magnitude of the construction that has to take place! :)

The emergency generators (they are large aren’t they!) are scheduled to be tested and commissioned in mid-November. Unfortunately during the start up and testing, it means that there will be a large test bank on site to run the Gensets for long periods of time— there will some loud noises.
