Viking Feature Lecture: Part 1 Join the University of Victoria’s Dr Erin McGuire as she shares her expertise about what modern archaeology tells us about the people we call Vikings.

Adult Learning Vikings and Canada Grant Keddie, Curator of Archaeology at the Royal BC Museum, will examine the deep history of the Vikings; share the DNA evidence of their origins and their visits to Canada.

Life and Death in the Viking World Anthropology 3 year level; Course Instructor: Dr Erin McGuire This course takes a detailed look at the nature and impact of the Viking expansion in the North Atlantic in the period defined rather broadly from c. 800-1300 AD. The social and ecological consequences of migration are explored, drawing on a variety of sources including archaeological data, saga literature, and historical sources.

Our Living Languages The Royal BC Museum is working in partnership with the First Peoples’ Cultural Council to develop the exhibition Our Living Languages.

Many visitors to the exhibition will be surprised to learn that British Columbia is home to 34 unique First Nations languages, making it the most linguistically diverse region in Canada. The exhibition will provide visitors with the opportunity to learn more about the complexity of these languages and the people who are working tirelessly to document and revitalize them.
