Student novelists take on NanoWrimo By LINDSAY SANDOVAL
You would think Emma Purcell is a jazz pianist, the way she furiously types away on the keyboard of her home computer. Only 42,000 more words and 22 days to go. Each year, a select group of students take on the epic literary challenge of NaNoWriMo, an abbreviation for National Novel Writing Month. Participants must write 50,000 words of original content to enter a long list of “winners” on the organization’s website. If the writers achieve the quota, they have an approximate 175 page manuscript in their hands, about the length of a short novel.
