Spring brings new spirit By LINDSAY SANDOVAL

Already, the early signs of spring are beginning to appear: the days are getting longer, the weather’s a little warmer, and students are restless with spring fever. Like the first sunny day of winter, a much needed dose of school spirit is curing the dungeon doldrums. Head Boy and Girl, Zach Strand and Kate Travis strive to cultivate this supportive atmosphere every day. Breaking Down the Walls, a program that aims to unify the Fairview community, will take place next week March 15-18 under the direction of Travis. Other students are leading the way, although in a less conspicuous way. Inspirational messages scribbled on sticky notes coated the school on Friday, March 4. No student organization has claimed responsibility for the pleasant surprise. So as the winter blues come to a close, here’s hoping the next sickness you catch is

Fairview fever.

By MIAH YAGER

Zach Strand and Kate Travis, the Head Boy and Head Girl, make this school the most unbelievable experience. So I surveyed some Fairview students about how Strand and Travis have made this school a better place. What do you think about Zach and Kate being strong leaders? “They’re strong leaders because they always set good examples.” “I think that the work ethic they maintain today will take them above and beyond in the future.” “I think they’re fantastic. They are friendly, easy to talk to, and they stick up for [their ideals].” If you gave them a gift? What would you give them and why? “I would give Zach a microphone.” “I would give Kate a stress ball.” “I would give them an extra 6 hours a day so they didn’t have to be so busy.”

Want to catch the fever? Then come to the 2011 International Fair to help celebrate Fairview’s diversity.

What’s the best quality that they have that means something to you? “Kate’s openness is important to me.” “Zach’s ongoing positivity.” “They haven’t been making nearly as many horrible jokes over the Intercom as the heads last year.”
