Reserve a bike for the next day after 1:00 pm, weekdays, or after 9:00 am on Saturday and Sunday. You must have a 10x or 20x pass to reserve a bike or pre-pay the drop-in fee. Arrive at least 5-minutes prior to the class to pick up your reservation confirmation. Unclaimed reserved bikes are released to waitlisted participants. Latecomers are not allowed to enter a class and there are no refunds if you arrive late or miss a class.

This gentle stretch class helps older adults improve flexibility, joint mobility, range of motion, balance and injury prevention. Enjoy a range of appropriate stretches, from many disciplines including fitness and yoga that will leave you lengthened, relaxed and rejuvenated. Suitable for all flexibility levels. Participants need to transfer from standing to floor work.

This challenging workout alternates basic, high intensity exercises for cardio, body conditioning and core training in an interval format. Use a variety of resistance equipment, working at your own level, for a guaranteed awesome total body workout! www.newwestpcr.ca

Improve your cardiovascular ability and tighten that mid-section with this fun and functional class. The first portion of the class is dedicated to a cardio workout and the second portion will include core and overall body strengthening moves. This 55-minute all-levels class combines a variety of indoor cycling intervals and drills to give you a great non-impact cardio workout.

CYCLE EXPRESS (14+ years, CCC)

Plan the start of your day around this 45 minute indoor cycling express workout.

CYCLE FIT (14+ years, CCC)

Combine 35 - 40 minutes of indoor cycling with 10 - 15 minutes of body conditioning and core training exercises, using dumbbells and tubing, to get an awesome total body workout.

CORE FITNESS (14+ years, CCC)

This exciting core-conditioning workout has just the right fusion of traditional abdominal, lower back and hip exercises. The unique blend of functional mat and stability ball exercises will connect you to your CORE like never before! No cardio but still a great workout!

DROP-IN YOGA (50+ years, CH) This class focuses on the importance of mindful breathing to prepare your body and mind to move through a gentle flow of poses, at your own pace, requiring different levels of strength and balance. A restful meditation closing will leave you feeling calm and centered.

GENTLE CARDIO AM (50+ years, QCC)

A more aerobic exercise based class geared towards older adults. Gradually get your heart rate up during this fun and energizing class.

HATHA YOGA (14+ years, QCC)

This yoga uses postures and stretches in combination with the breath to develop flexibility and relaxation.

This class encourages proper alignment of the body and brings balance, strength, and calmness

KICK & BOX (14+ years, CCC)

This amazing total body workout is high energy, exciting and motivating. Enjoy a non-contact workout incorporating martial arts kicks and boxing punches.

It’s great for cardio-respiratory fitness, muscular endurance, hand/eye coordination, agility and speed. It’s also a fun way to reduce stress!

LIGHT EXERCISE (50+ years,

CH) This class includes breathing, stretching, balancing, chair exercises and a gentle aerobic walking component to familiar music. Tips on healthy living, osteoporosis, arthritis and fall prevention is included with lots of fun and humour. This gentle class allows your own pace.

OSTEOFIT (50+ years, QCC)

Osteofit is a BC Women’s Hospital & Health Centre certified exercise, education and falls prevention program for individuals with osteoporosis, low bone density or who are at risk of fractures and falls.

However, any older adults looking to get active and have fun are welcome!

PILATES MAT (14+ years, CCC)

Pilates is a system of exercises, when practiced consistently, help improve flexibility, strength, endurance, concentration, breathing and muscle control. These precise movements develop core muscles, overall body strength and awareness through centering and alignment. Class limited to 20 participants. Sign-up begins 30-minutes before class starts. Please bring your own yoga mat.

POWER YOGA (14+ years, CCC) Using classic poses of Hatha Yoga, movements are linked by breath (one breath, one movement) creating a sequenced flow that is physically challenging to promote body, mind and breath awareness. Emphasis on correct alignment helps participants create a deeper understanding of poses while ensuring safely and physical benefit. Ideal for increasing flexibility, balance, endurance and mental focus. Please bring your own yoga mat.

STEP & SCULPT (14+ years, CCC)

Experience a high energy, easy-to-follow cardio workout on the STEP. Afterwards, challenge your muscles and shape your body using a creative blend of dumbbell, resistance tubing and stability ball exercises. Following is a relaxing cool down and stretch.

STEP MIX (14+ years, CCC)

Mix it up in this motivating and energizing STEP workout. An excellent combination of cardio training, body conditioning and core exercises, using the STEP and a variety of training equipment, gives you a great balanced workout. pcr@newwestcity.ca

STRETCH (14+ years, CCC) Time to stretch out! This full body stretch class will relax and lengthen muscles, improve range of motion, flexibility, enhance balance and help prevent injury. A bonus is the mental relaxation and total body rejuvenation that you’ll experience. Suitable for all flexibility levels. The perfect body TLC! STRETCH AND STRENGTH

(50+ years, CH & QCC) Strengthen your muscles using light weights, tubing and your own body weight to build endurance and maintain bone mass. This class will finish off with stretching and relaxing.

TONING (50+ years,

CH) Focus on increasing endurance, in all major muscle groups, through the use of bands, weights and chair exercises. Improving your muscle tone will make everyday tasks easier and help improve bone density.

Everyone is welcome and you can work at your pace.

WORKOUT (50+ years,

(14+ years, QCC) Cover all your fitness bases in one class. This class combines cardio, strength and stretching. The workout is always varied, keeping class fun and challenging so you get you the results you want.

CH) Enjoy a stimulating aerobics class aimed at improving your heart health. Familiar music motivates you in these energetic classes that include a low impact option. Emphasis is on improving agility, reflexes, fun and moving for the joy of it. TOTAL BODY CONDITIONING

This classic Fitness New West class expertly combines the major components of fitness: flexibility, muscular strength, endurance and aerobic training. A moderate version of the Workout, this class features a shorter cardio section and more low impact alternatives. Floor work includes lower repetition exercises to work you in all the right places. This is an excellent class for those starting a fitness program or wanting a lower intensity workout.

TRAMPOLINE COLOUR LEVELS (6 - 12 years)

Red Introductory skills include the stop bounce,

seat drop, tuck jump and straddle jumps.

Orange The full twist and the progression to the

front drop are emphasized at this level.

Yellow Participants at this level are challenged with

the ant bounce as well as swivel hips.

Green The airplane and back drop are the main

focus of this level.

Blue Swing time skills and the first ten bounce

The Undocumented Trial of William C. Hopkinson is a new production created in honour of the 101st commemoration of the death of Bhai Mewa Singh, an important figure in New Westminster’s history. Join our panel discussion featuring writer/director Paneet Singh along with key members of the cast and production team who will speak to the origins and creation of this piece, as well as present-day resonance of death of Bhai Mewa Singh. The play re-imagines the trial of Mewa Singh through the eyes of Canadian Immigration Inspector William Hopkinson and is grounded in historical documents and public archives.

Scottish-born Hugh Galbraith arrived in New Westminster in 1884. In 1891, he established Galbraith and Sons, a sash and door company. Three years later, he built the mansion at 131 Eighth Street to showcase the family’s millworking business. The house used New York architect Henry Hudson Holly’s design to demonstrate their millwork skill with abundant detail.

Hugh Galbraith died in 1910 but his sons carried on. In 1924, the family spent $10,000 on remodeling their home. Galbraith family members owned the house until 1936. However, after non-payment of property taxes, the City of New Westminster took possession of the property.

In 1940, the City allowed a women’s service club, the Soroptimists, to convert the house into a club and canteen for soldiers. Westminster House, as it was named, had a café, a table tennis area, a piano, a jukebox and a billiard room. Fifteen-year-old Jean Gray of Victoria painted the billiard room murals while a friend painted Disney characters in other parts of the house.

In 1946, new owners converted the building into a rooming house. The house went through a number of owners, remaining a rental property until the late 1970s. By the 1990s, many newspapers claimed the house looked like a stereotypical haunted house and the house was in danger of being demolished.

Marie and Ron Jang of Tanex Mouldings restored the house in 1998 as part of a Heritage Revitalization Agreement with the City of New Westminster. Today it is used as a conference centre and office space.
