TheAfricanpenguiniscurrentlyclassifiedasendangeredbythe internationalUnionforConservationofNature(IUNC)andunder ThreatenedorProtectedMarineSpeciesRegulations(TOPMS) (NEM:BA)andmaybere-listedascriticalendangeredbyOctober2024.
Duringthe20thcentury,thepopulationwasestimatedatoveramillion breedingpairs,howevertodaythetotalestimate(includingNamibia)isless than10,000breedingpairs ThepenguinpopulationinSouthernAfricais dire Shouldnofurthereffectivemanagementactionsbeimplemented,itis predictedthattheAfricanpenguinpopulationalongthecoastofSouth Africacouldbefunctionallyextinctby2035.

1. Awareness:ToincreasepublicawarenessabouttheSANCCOB 2 CommunityEngagement:Tofosterasenseofcommunityand teamworkamongparticipantsandvolunteers. 3.
Theeventtypicallyinvolvesteamsofparticipantswhonavigatethroughaseriesofcheckpoints, completingvariouschallengesandtasksalongtheway.Thesechallengesaredesignedtotest physicalendurance,mentalacuity,andteamwork Theraceisstructuredtobeinclusive, allowingpeopleofallagesandabilitiestoparticipate
Theamazingracekickedoffat08:15andthefirstteamsarrivedbackatthefinishlinejustbefore 1pm.Theteamshadtonavigatethefriendlycity(PortElizabeth)tovariouslocationsofinterest. Eachlocationofferedadifferentactivity.Somewerephysical,othersweremental,andothers werejustfun.Teamshadtolearnhowtomakevirgincocks,solvepuzzlesandhowtouse moderndaytechnology Teamsattouristpointsreceivedlessonsandthehistoryofourgreat city.
EachteamreceivedalightmealattheAlgoa108clubhousewhilealsohydratingourteams It wasindeedaveryhotday,andteamswereactivetoeventuallyclaimpossiblefirstprize Partof routeandoneofthestagesalsoallowedtheteamstoswimintherefreshingoceanwaters. Inallaspects,thisprojectisastartofclosercollaborationwithothertablesandwillmost certainlybecomeanannualfuturebetweenAlgoa108andPEWest142.
Wearealsoabundantlyblessedbythesponsorshipofourbenefactorsandtheinclusionofour benefactorstohostastage Itwasaresoundingsuccessandfromhereonwewilldoitbetter, withevenmoreinterestingstagesandchallengesandmanymoreteamsthatwillparticipate.
TheAmazingRaceInitiativeisapowerfulexampleofhowfunandadventurecanbeharnessed foragoodcause Bycombiningtheexcitementofaracewiththepurposeofcharity,this initiativenotonlyraisesfundsbutalsobuildsstronger,moreawarecommunities.Itisa testamenttothepositiveimpactthatwell-organized,community-focusedeventscanhaveon society.

KeyLearnings
OneofthemostprofoundlessonsI'velearnedduringmytimeas Chairmanistheimportanceofclear,transparentcommunication. LeadingaTableinvolvesconstantengagementandunderstandingthe diverseperspectiveswithinit.Lateron,Irealizedthatfosteringanopen environmentwhereeveryvoiceisheardnotonlybuildstrustbutalso ensuresthatallmembersfeelinvestedinthedirectionwe’reheading Whetheritwasduring businessmeetings,socialdiscussions,Imadeitapointtobeclearanddirectwhilealso remainingempatheticandapproachable.
Anotherkeylearningwasthesignificanceofdelegation.Thetemptationtotakeontoomuch myselfwasstrong,butIquicklyrecognizedthatempoweringothersandentrustingthemwith keytasksisessentialforbothpersonalgrowthandtablesuccess Thisnotonlyhelpedme managemytimemoreeffectivelybutalsostrengthenedtheleadershipskillsofthemembers. Lastly,Ilearnedthatleadershipisaboutadaptability.Theabilitytopivotinresponsetochanging circumstancesorunexpectedchallengeswascrucial.Wefacedmomentswhereourinitialplans hadtobeadjusted,whetherduetoexternalchallengesorinternalresourceconstraints.Thekey wastostayflexibleandleadthetablewithaclear,steadyvision,whilebeingopentonewideas andstrategies
PersonalGrowth
ThroughoutmyyearasChairman,therolepushedmetoevolveasaleaderandasanindividual ItdemandedthatIstepoutsidemycomfortzoneandbemoreself-reflective.Oneaspectof personalgrowthIexperiencedwasanincreasedsenseofemotionalintelligence.Leadinga diversegroupofindividualsrequiredmetohonemylisteningskillsandbetterunderstandthe emotionaldynamicsofthetablers.Ibecamemoreattunedtothemotivations,concerns,and aspirationsofmymembers,whichultimatelyallowedmetobeamoreeffectiveleader Ialsobecamemorecomfortablewithdecision-makingunderpressure.AsChairman,Iwasoften requiredtomakedecisionsthatcouldhavesignificantimpactsonthetable.Thesemoments taughtmetotrustmyinstinctsandjudgment,butalsotoremainhumbleandseekadvicefrom otherswhenneeded.Ilearnedtobalanceconfidencewithhumility,andtounderstandthat leadershipisnotabouthavingalltheanswers,butknowingwhentoasktherightquestions Perhapsoneofthemostimportantaspectsofpersonalgrowthcamefrommanagingthe inevitablemomentsofdoubt.ThereweretimesduringparticularlydifficultsituationswhenI questionedwhetherIwasmakingtherightchoices.However,thesechallengesultimately becamethemomentsthatdefinedmygrowth. Theyremindedmethatuncertaintyispartof leadership,andnavigatingthroughitwithresilience andperseveranceiswhatshapesastrongleader.
ChallengesFacedandOvercome
Noyearinaleadershiproleiswithoutitschallenges,andminewasnoexception Oneofthe mostdifficultobstaclesIfacedwasnavigatingorganizationalchange Leadingalargeteam meansmanagingdifferentpersonalities,expectations,andaspirations.Attimes,therewere disagreementsoverstrategicdirection,whichcreatedtensionwithinthegroup.Ihadtostepin tomediate,facilitateconstructiveconversations,andaligntheteamwithasharedvision.Itwas notalwayseasy,butitwasrewardingtoseehowopendialogueandtransparencyhelpedus movepastthesechallengesandworkcohesivelytowardscommongoals
Maintainingthemoraleofthetablersduringthesechallengingtimeswascrucial.Whilethe thesehurdlesweredifficulttoovercome,thesupportofacommittedteamwasinvaluable.I madeitapointtoacknowledgetheirhardwork,celebratesmallvictories,andkeepthebigger pictureinmind.Itwasthroughcollaboration,mutualrespect,andconsistentcommunication thatwewereabletoturnchallengesintoopportunitiesforgrowth

Despitethehurdles,therewerenumerousmomentsofsuccessandpridethroughouttheyear Oneofthemostrewardinghighlightswasthegrowthanddevelopmentoftheteam Overthe pastyear,Ihadtheprivilegeofworkingcloselywithmanytalentedindividualswhoconsistently wentaboveandbeyondtosupportthetablesgoals.Watchingthemtakeonnewchallengesand developtheirskillswasoneofthemostfulfillingaspectsofmyrole.Itakeprideinknowingthat, asChairman,Ihelpedcreateanenvironmentwheretalentcouldthriveandindividualsfelt empoweredtoreachtheirfullpotential
LookingAhead
AsIstepawayfromtheroleofChairman,Idosowithadeepsenseofgratitudeandawealthof experiencethatIwillcarryforwardinallaspectsofmylife Thisyearhasnotonlyshapedmeasa leaderbuthasalsobeenajourneyofself-discovery,growth,andtransformation.Iamproudof whatweaccomplishedandexcitedtoseewhatthefutureholdsforCradock37andthe incredibleteamIhadthehonortolead.
Inconclusion,myyearasChairmanwasoneofimmenselearningandgrowth.Thechallenges, whiledifficult,ultimatelyshapedmeintoabetterleader.Theachievements,bothbigandsmall, remindedmeofthepowerofteamworkandresilience.Iamleavingthisrolewitharenewed senseofpurposeandadeepappreciationforthejourneywe'veshared Thelessonslearned overthepastyearwillcontinuetoguidemeinallmyfutureendeavors,andIamconfidentthat RoundTableCradock37isinastrongpositiontocontinuethrivingintheyearstocome.

Whatbeganasaseeminglymammothtaskwithhighexpectations,ambitiousbudgetsand simpleyethardtoreachgoals,leadustoendtheyearwithsuccessfulmembershipgrowth, collaborationbetweenthePEtables,increasedvisitstoothertables,andasmashing50thand SpringConferenceforZwartkops195madeevenmorespecialaswesharedourmilestoneyear withRoundTableAlgoa108whocelebratedtheir60thyear.
Zwartkops195hasnotbeenwithoutit’schallenges,pastorpresent,thisyearsawmassive collaborationbetweenthe3PETables,fromthejoinedButternutcollectionanddeliveryatthe startofWinter,totheconclusionoftheWinterKnightsProjectwhereoverR100000inclothing wasdistributedbythe3TablestothoseinneedthroughouttheBayArea,theseprojectssaw intertablesocials,newfriendshipsbeingforged,disputesbetweenTablersbeingquelledaswe allrealizedourpositionandresponsibilitieswhilelearningtorespectdifferencesinopinions.
“Recruithard,tableeasy”,wisdompasseddownfromour41ersbeforeusandthewordsthat echointhesoulofevery195member,2024sawstronggrowthforourTable,withtheinduction ofnewmembersandintroductionofnewguestswhoshowedtheirgritandwerepromotedto Pipeliners,andthenearmarkedtobecomeofficial195membersfortheincomingyear2025. Withnewguestsatthedoorandthe195namebeingspokenmorefrequentlyatsocialsand professionalgatherings,ourtableisfinallystartingtoreachthegoalofservicingourcommunity en-massbyattractingethicalanddedicatedindividualswhovoluntarilyanswerthecallofthe Rondle.Despitehavinglostsomememberstoimmigration,41ersclubinductionsandeventhe oddsabbaticalfromTable,195Standsstrongaswesetoursightsto2025.
Nothinginlifeiswithoutitsfairshareofchallengesandtrials,reflectingontheyearsofarit’s cleartoseethatwhetherweacknowledgeitornot,Tabledevelopsus,howeversmallthe changesare,theeffectssuffernotransparency,thepersonaldevelopmentI’veseeninour membershasbeenphenomenal,thededicationandcommitmentshownareaneverdeveloping aspectofeachofourmembersandthedrivingforcebehindeveryactiontakenbytheTableand myselfasChairman,noself-respectingTablerstandsachanceatbeingasuccessfulchairman withoutthesupportofhismembersandtherightleadershipqualitiesthatarehonedduring onesyearasleaderofhisTable Disputesarediscussedinmeetings,differencesofopinionsare metwithswiftfairnessandrespectforeachother’sviewpoints,Zwartkops195isbeamingwith camaraderieandstrengthasnumbersgrowpullinglikemindedindividualstogetherunderthe banneroftheRondle.

Wellthatistheimpression,behindthe“hood”whereonlya fewreallyevergettosee,youfindagroupofrelatively “normal”guys,tryingtomakeadifferenceintheir communities,ontheirowntime,laborandefforts.
ItisinthoseeffortsthatRoundTablemembersbenefitthe mostasitcanatanymomentbeatrialbyfireinthat changesinyourdayjob,familyandfinancialsituations couldconvergewhileyouaretryingtogettoevents, functions,enjoyfellowship,networkandevenjusttryto belong.
Shouldyoubeoftheluckyfewthatfindawaytonavigate thecomplexitiesoflifewhileembracingtheexperienceof RoundTableyouwillwithoutadoubtrealizethateverything comesbytakingactionandmakingaplantomakeitwork.
Ihaveattimesbattledtojuggleeverythingaswellasmy“self-inflicted”tendencyofsayingyes tomultipleportfolioswithinRoundTable.HavingbeenClubChairman,AreaChairmanand RoundTableSouthernAfricaBrandingManagerandStrategicPlanneroverthemonthofMarch 2024wasbothfunandchaotic.
RoundTableAlex/Kenton210hasoverthelastfewyearsmovedclosertoacommunity collaborationinstigator,wehavelookedtopartnerandworkwithmoreorganizationsthan before,andwhilewemightnothaveraisedmassiveamountsofcapitalthisyear,wehave securedaprimevenueonMiddleBeachKentononSeaforServiceclubs.9yearsand11months tobeexact
ByformalizingourcollectivestrengthsRoundTable,RotaryKentononSeaandNSRIwillbe rebuildingacollectiveorganizationalspacewhereserviceorganizationscanestablish themselvesanddriveimpactfulchangeevenfurther.
WehaveworkedcloselywithSunshineCoastTourism,BUCO,PamGoldingPropertiesto mentionbutafew.
Wehavegrowninnumber,currentlyon13members,diverseinbackgroundandages,whilenot evenstayinginthesametown Wehaveactivelypromotedinformationsharingandthepassingonofknowledgeand institutionalknowledgetobeexactwithinourclub.

We were approached on behalf of Craig Alston, who faces a challenging journey battling Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) This debilitating condition not only affects his daily life but also requires him to travel to Johannesburg every two weeks for critical treatment sessions, each costing R3,550. To make matters even more difficult, Craig was recently let go from his job, adding immense financial strain to an already tough situation.
Understanding the gravity of Craig’s circumstances, Port Alfred Round Table 177 rallied together and issued a challenge to other Eastern Province Round Tables to join us in raising funds for his cause. The response was nothing short of incredible.
Together with Adelaide 194, Alex Kenton 210, Cradock 37, Algoa 108 and Kirkwood 78, we raised an impressive R11,143 00!
What We Achieved
Thanks to the generosity of these clubs and the support of our community:
We were able to purchase a wheelchair for Craig, giving him the mobility he needs to attend treatment sessions
We also raised nearly enough to fund an additional pain infusion session, offering Craig further relief and support in his fight against CRPS.
This fundraiser showcases the power of teamwork and compassion. It’s a testament to the spirit of Round Table, young men banding together to make a tangible difference in the lives of those who need it most

Theeventsawanimpressiveturnoutwith28participants,includingmembersoftheRound Table,localbusinessleaders,andgolfaficionados.Thediversegroupofparticipants contributedtoavibrantandengagingatmosphere.
Thedaystartedbyashotgunstartforthegolftournament TheformatwasAmericanscramble with2score.Participantsenjoyedachallengingyetenjoyableroundofgolfonthebeautifully maintainedcourse.
Thankstothegenerosityofourparticipantsandsponsors,theeventraisedasignificantamount offunds.TheproceedswillbedirectedtowardsCommunityChestEasternCape,supportingour ongoingeffortstomakeapositiveimpactinthecommunity.

A raffle draw and auction were held during the post-tournament luncheon, featuring exciting prizes and items.
The event concluded with a heartfelt thank you speech from the Round Table PE West 142 chairman, expressing appreciation for the community's support. The mystery box raised R11,000.00 thanks to Johan Olivier who re-gifted the mystery box to go on Auction again The was a very special moment
The Golf Day Fundraiser was a resounding success, fostering community spirit and raising essential funds for a worthy cause. We look forward to hosting similar events in the future and continuing our mission to support and uplift our community.

WiththeassistanceoftheWalmerWoodsDriving Rangewhowelcomedtheeventatnochargetothe table,alongwithDanGoldbergofClubMatePort ElizabethwhosuppliedandoperatedtheBallTracker whichdisplayseachgolfersdistance,flightpatternof theball,andcurve.
Wehadnumerousentrantstothecompetitionwhich turnedouttobeasuccessfulandfunday.Zwartkops 195hostedabraaifortheentrantsandpublicwho cametosupport,sellingBoerieRollsandother refreshmentstokeepeveryonewellhydratedandfed forthoselongdriveshots!

On21September2024,RoundTableCradock37hosted theirMusicTriviaNightattheCradockGolfClub The aimoftheprojectwastoraisefundsforRoundTable Cradock37astofurthertheAimsandObjectsofRound Table.
AfterthegreatsuccessofourMusicTrivianightin2023 weknewwecouldn’tdisappointandhadtohostaneven biggerTrivia.That’sexactlywhatwedid.Thesupporters andsponsorsdidn’tstandbackforanything.Wewere privilegedtogetbigsponsorships,andthecommunity openedtheirwalletsinsupportforthecause.
Wehadourownin-housemasterofceremony,Alheitdu Toit,whoentertainedourguestsandledtheprogram Thenightstartedstrongwithplayersbuyingraffle ticketsforourLuckyDraw.
TheTriviastartedat19:00andIoannis Katakouzinos(Kattie)onceagainhadtheplayersfull attention.Theprogramentailedgoodmusic,fungames, goodvibesandabigjoluntilearlymorninghours.

SantaShoeboxisaprojectrunbyKirkwood78whereTablersaretaskedwithcollecting shoeboxesfilledwithessentialitemsandpresents.Theseboxesarehandedouttosomeofour childrenlessfortunatethanourselves.Formanyofthesechildren,thesearetheonlypresents thattheywillreceive.
Thisyearatotalof106boxeswerecollectedandhandedouttothechildrenofNeskuiken, SitrusrandandKleuterkasteelpre-primaryschools.

On15November2024wehadthehonourandprivilegetohosttheZwartkops 19550thCelebrationdinneratLondtPark.Zwartkops195,alsoknowasthexfactorTableintheEasternCapeorthecrabsforshorthavebeenservingthe communityinPortElizabethfor50yearsandisstillgoingstrong.
