The Editor Tri-Area?

Explaining a Tri-Area to a NonTabler…

In the Round Table organization, a Tri Area event is a special gathering that brings together three neighboring areas for a weekend of meetings, activities, and camaraderie. The three areas involved typically share geographical proximity, which allows them to come together more easily for this occasion. The Tri Area event is an opportunity for members of the Round Table organization from these three areas to connect, exchange ideas, and strengthen their bonds.

During the Tri Area event, representatives from each area convene to discuss important matters related to the organization, such as ongoing projects, upcoming initiatives, and strategic planning. These meetings provide a platform for sharing best practices, addressing challenges, and collaborating on joint efforts. However, the Tri Area event is not limited to formal discussions and meetings. It is also a time for members to socialize, build relationships, and have fun together. Various activities and events are organized to facilitate interaction and create a sense of camaraderie among attendees.

The Tri Area event holds significant importance within the Round Table organization as it promotes unity, collaboration, and the sharing of experiences. It allows members to learn from one another, celebrate their collective achievements, and collectively plan.

PRO UPDATE:

There is no time for dust to settle this year and we are staying busy!

As the Public Relations Officer (PRO), my days have been filled with a flurry of activities and responsibilities. Keeping the STNOFSie, the official newsletter of the STNOFS area, up to date has been an ongoing struggle, requiring constant editing and brainstorming for captivating stories. Time seems to slip away as I strive to ensure the publication is informative and engaging. Moreover, gathering stories from other clubs adds an extra layer of complexity to my workload.

One of the recent highlights of my PRO journey was the success of the ARTSA event. The shirts I designed were met with great enthusiasm, not only by the people from all over the country who attended the event but also by our own STNOFS members. It was a proud moment to see everyone sporting the shirts and exuding a sense of unity and pride.

However, navigating the world of Inkundla, the National Round Table Magazine, has been an entirely new experience for me. The PROs from other areas and clubs have proven to have a strong game in creating captivating content for this prestigious publication. It has been a learning curve for me, but I am embracing the challenge and striving to improve my skills in magazine writing and content creation.

In the realm of social media, I must admit that it has been somewhat of a personal challenge for me. I might have dropped the ball a few times, but I am fully aware of the importance of maintaining a strong online presence. Despite the hurdles, I am committed to doing my best and enhancing my social media skills to effectively promote Round Table and engage with our members and the wider community.

Exciting things are on the horizon as well. Regalia, including coins and pins, is in the works and will soon be launched. These items not only enhance our sense of belonging but also serve as symbols of our shared values and accomplishments.

What to expect from the new STNOFSie

Despite the challenges and occasional setbacks, I am still thoroughly enjoying my role as the PRO. It has not only allowed me to develop valuable skills in communication, writing, and design, but it has also enriched my personal life. Being part of Round Table and contributing to its success is immensely gratifying, and I am grateful for the opportunity to make a difference through my role.

As I continue this journey as the PRO, I am eager to face new challenges head-on and explore new avenues to enhance our communication efforts. With the support of our members and the Round Table community, I am confident that we will continue to make strides in promoting our organization, sharing impactful stories, and strengthening the bonds that unite us. In conclusion, while my role as the PRO presents its fair share of hurdles, the successes and rewards that come with it make every moment worthwhile. Together, let us embrace the future with enthusiasm and continue to make Round Table a beacon of friendship, service, and personal growth.

This year I was presented with the opportunity to run the STNOFSie and to put together everything. I was struggling at first with the theme that I wanted to imply for the term. I wanted to break away from the norm and the past few years and the theme of the previous PRO’s. The thought had come to me that I should start taking everything back to its roots, and what is more back to its roots than an old school newspaper. I want to express myself and the articles I receive from the Area in a way that shows we can stand the test of time. To stick to the basics and to improve on us. I changed the date for this present year to 1923 to commit to the whole theme of the classic newspaper. Not that I want to stick to the past, but rather take a trip down memory lane. I sometimes feel 40 years old, and my brain wants everything to fit in boxes and be in black & white. Therefore, I chose this theme. This beauty was also constructed on Word 1993!

What I expect from my fellow STNOFS members and readers, the way forward and the outline:

> Write an article as soon as you take on a project, big or small, we have space for it all. We are all busy in our daily lives, but we should be able to take 30min and write something on how Round Table was involved in your life.

> The STNOFSie is only as good as the content it has, so make sure we keep up the articles.

> The Table with the most articles in the previous STNOFSie will receive the front page and be first in the news list.

> AMAZING ARTICLE AWARD (AAA) The best written article will receive the AAA status and be mentioned on the back page.

Thank you for allowing me this privilege to be the Editor of the STNOFSie, I believe it will be a great success filled with stories and memories.

Carletonville 50

A South African’s journey to the Italian AGM.

Greetings, fellow Round Table enthusiasts! Gather around as I regale you with the uproarious tale of my recent escapade at the Italian Annual General Meeting (AGM). Joined by the infamous Louis "the fly" Janneke from Round Table Carletonville 50, I embarked on an unforgettable adventure filled with laughter, cultural misadventures, and an overwhelming abundance of good food and wine. Brace yourselves for a delightful and humorous account of our time in the enchanting land of Italy! Our journey commenced on May 30, 2023, departing from the illustrious OR Tambo International airport. The flight, in what some affectionately call "Cattle class," proved to be tolerable, except for my unfortunate neighbour, a petite Ethiopian lady who might argue otherwise. However, let's not dwell on the cramped conditions; after all, it's the company that matters, right? Arriving in Rome on May 31, we hopped on a train to Florence, accompanied by Louis, our trusty guide and connoisseur of cultural mishaps. His rendition of an Afrikaans-accented English tour commentary was, without a doubt, the most comically atrocious I have ever heard. Despite getting lost and unintentionally hiking what felt like 500 kilometres, we found solace in the comforting embrace of beers along the way. Florence, with its captivating history and mouthwatering street food, proved to be a city worth getting lost in. Our train journey continued, leading us to the charming town of San Miniato. Upon our arrival, we were warmly welcomed by Round Table San Miniato Fucecchio76 and an extraordinary array of individuals hailing from 17 different countries. The adventure was just beginning!

As fortune would have it, my birthday fell on that very night, and we celebrated it with gusto at the stroke of midnight. The consequences of revelry were undoubtedly felt the next morning let's leave it at that, shall we? The morning of June 1st was dedicated to a guided tour of an ar-san company, where we had the privilege of witnessing the creation of Italian haute couture products. It was an eye-opening experience, complemented by an extravagant buffet lunch that left us in awe. In the afternoon, we indulged in a Dinner & Disco extravaganza at 'La Loggia Dei Medici Dinner' by the pool, followed by an energetic night of dancing in a Tuscan countryside setting. The Italians sure know how to throw a party!

On June 2nd, we explored the breathtaking Fucecchio Marshes nature reserve, boasting Italy's largest inland marshland. Amidst the diverse flora and fauna, we enjoyed a leisurely day immersed in nature, complete with a delicious barbecue lunch accompanied by copious amounts of beer and wine. The tranquility of the marshes provided the perfect balance to our exuberant evenings. And then, the grand finale arrived the AGM meeting and Gala Dinner at the esteemed Golf Club 'Bellosguardo,' situated in the birthplace of the genius Leonardo Da Vinci. It was a momentous occasion filled with pride and admiration for the Round Table movement, celebrated amidst the backdrop of Leonardo's extraordinary legacy. As I reflect upon the entirety of this fantastic adventure, I cannot emphasize enough the incredible hospitality of Round Table Italy and the remarkable efforts of Round Table San Miniato Fucecchio 76. The pre-tour was a gastronomic and cultural delight, with sumptuous food, exquisite wines, and a genuinely unforgettable experience. Despite being only three years old, this table has already displayed exceptional hosting skills that left us in awe.

Introduction:

Traveling is full of unexpected moments and unique experiences. But what happens when you embark on a journey with someone who can fall asleep anywhere, anytime? Join us as we dive into the comical world of traveling with a notorious 41'er, whose superpower seems to be dozing off on every public transport we take. Get ready for laughs, head nods, and the occasional snore!

The Bus Bonanza:

We kick off our hilarious expedition with a good old-fashioned bus ride. As we settle into our seats, our 41'er companion swiftly finds his comfy spot and begins to drift away into dreamland. Passengers exchange amused glances as he manages to fall asleep within seconds, undeterred by the twists and turns of the road. We secretly wonder if he's mastered the art of sleeping with eyes wide open.

The Train Time Warp:

Next up, we hop on a train, thinking that the constant movement might make it difficult for our drowsy friend to catch some Z's. Oh, how wrong we were! As the rhythmic sound of wheels on the tracks lulls us into a sense of tranquility, we look over to find our 41'er slumbering peacefully, his head bobbing in perfect harmony with the train's motion. We can't help but envy his ability to nap through even the loudest announcements.

The Plane Paradox:

Ah, the aircraft an arena where legroom is scarce, turbulence is inevitable, and sleep is a luxury. Surely, our well-rested 41'er will face a challenge here, right? Wrong again! Our travel companion quickly adapts, using the uncomfortable seat as a makeshift pillow and snoring away without a care in the world. We can't help but chuckle as we witness flight attendants struggling to serve refreshments without waking him.

The Metro Medley:

For our final leg of the journey, we dive into the depths of the metro system. Surely, the constant stops, starts, and bustling crowds will keep our 41'er wide awake, right? Wrong again! With a seemingly supernatural ability to enter sleep mode at will, our companion's snoozing skills reach new heights as he drifts off while standing, supported by nothing but the sway of the metro car. We're convinced he could sleep through an earthquake.

Conclusion:

Traveling with a 41'er is an adventure like no other. From buses to trains, planes to metros, our sleep-loving companion manages to find peace and tranquility in the most unlikely places. While the rest of us wrestle with jet lag and seek out coffee for survival, he reminds us of the importance of embracing the simple pleasure of a good nap. So, if you ever find yourself journeying alongside a 41'er, be prepared for amusement, admiration, and a perpetual sense of awe as you witness their incredible talent for catching Z's on every public transport we take.

Numbers meeting: Europe

As a proud member of Potchefstroom 47, I had the incredible privilege of attending the annual Numbers Meeting in Europe. This meeting brought together Round Table clubs from nine different countries, all sharing the distinguished number "47." It was a journey that took us to the beautiful city of Karlstad, Sweden, from the 12th to the 14th of May 2023.

From the moment we arrived in Karlstad, we were welcomed with open arms and genuine warmth. The hospitality extended by our European counterparts was heartwarming, creating an instant sense of camaraderie.

The Numbers Meeting was a melting pot of ideas, experiences, and inspiration. It was incredible to witness the diverse approaches to community service and hear about the impactful projects being undertaken by clubs from Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Germany, Austria, Netherlands, Belgium, and South Africa.

Beyond the formalities, we had the opportunity to explore the enchanting city of Karlstad and immerse ourselves in Swedish culture. The charming streets, picturesque landscapes, and rich history made for a truly unforgettable experience. Sharing these adventures with fellow Round Table members from around the world deepened our connections and created lasting friendships.

The Numbers Meeting not only reaffirmed the importance of international collaboration but also reminded us of the broader Round Table family that extends beyond our local chapter. It was a humbling experience to witness the collective power of likeminded individuals coming together to make a difference.

The memories we created, the knowledge we gained, and the friendships we forged will forever hold a special place in my heart. I returned to Potchefstroom with a renewed sense of purpose and a deepened commitment to making a positive impact within our local community.

The Numbers Meeting in Karlstad, Sweden, will forever be a cherished chapter in my Round Table journey. It has reinforced the belief that together, we can achieve great things, transcending borders and differences to create a brighter future for all. Traveling through Europe

For 22 incredible days, I embarked on a journey across Europe, exploring the rich tapestry of cultures, traditions, and landscapes that make this continent so captivating. My itinerary took me to the Netherlands, Sweden, Germany, the Czech Republic, Austria, and Belgium, each offering a unique and unforgettable experience.

Throughout my trip, I had the privilege of being hosted by 12 different Round Table clubs, who welcomed me with open arms and genuine warmth. These clubs became my home away from home, providing me with a glimpse into their local customs, traditions, and way of life. From the moment I stepped foot in each new city, I was enveloped by a sense of camaraderie and fellowship.

The connections I made during my journey are friendships that will last a lifetime. Whether it was sharing a meal, engaging in meaningful conversations, or embarking on exciting adventures together, the bonds we formed transcended borders and created a sense of belonging. These newfound friends became an integral part of my European experience, enriching it with laughter, shared memories, and a deeper understanding of the world around me. As I reflect on my time in Europe, I am grateful for the myriad of experiences I had the opportunity to indulge in. From strolling along the picturesque canals of Amsterdam, marveling at the historic architecture in Stockholm, immersing myself in the vibrant energy of Berlin, and savoring the culinary delights in Vienna, each destination left an indelible mark on my heart.

Exploring the enchanting cities, experiencing the local traditions, and soaking in the breathtaking landscapes broadened my horizons and deepened my appreciation for the beauty of diversity. Europe truly is a tapestry of cultures, seamlessly woven together to create a vibrant mosaic. As I bid farewell to the European continent, I carry with me cherished memories, newfound knowledge, and a global network of friends. My journey has taught me the power of human connection, the importance of embracing different perspectives, and the joy that comes from immersing oneself in new experiences.

While my time in Europe may have come to an end, the impact it has had on my life will endure. The friendships forged, the lessons learned, and the memories created will forever hold a special place in my heart. I am grateful for the opportunity to have explored this remarkable part of the world and look forward to continuing my journey of growth, understanding, and friendship within the Round Table community.

Thanks from the depth of my heart to everyone who made my trip amazing! Regards – Wouter ”Daar K@K ‘n Haas!”

Wouter “Editor” Dreyer Edelweiss Tour:

How I accidentally joined…

So, funny story. I left Praha, Czech Republic late on a Friday long weekend afternoon. I happened to be on a bus, heading for Vienna in Austria, and I had no idea where I was going to sleep. Then I went off to Tabler World, which some people still can’t access, and looked up Vienna. I stumbled upon Mr. Borris, The Pink Panther. Per my usual nosy messages, I asked him for a quick beer and possible home hosting, thinking the obvious would happen. He then replied with a quick message, that they had a tour on that weekend, and following the week as well. Nevertheless, he had a bed mor me. Upon arrival the following morning at the bus stop, I was greeted by my old friend! Chatting and encountering like old friends. Then to my question that followed, I was SHOCKED! “What tour is going on?” Just like the pinnacle of tours all over the world… but in a calmer answer was I responded to. With my luck, and good timing I had the privilege to extend my one day, into a three day stop before heading onwards again. Alongside myself, I was joined by three planned members from ARTSA NNC Area to attend the tour. We had a blast and was so thankful for the Austrian experience and hospitality. We went on such an amazing tour through Vienna city center and surrounding areas. We even went to a theme park where I was pale as a ghost after half of the carnival’s beer & pizza was inside me, then shaking me like a cocktail. Nonetheless, the views from a world record holder carousel were even more exceptional. The landscape and scene from above the city will always be one to cherish. There was even time for what the Europeans call a BBQ, which is meat cooked very fast on a gas heater. Still, the beers were flowing, and the conversations found their way through the room, with RSA being a talking point. The fact that we were all so in tune, and that I was welcomed so easily was truly remarkable of this organization. I found and made friends across the world, and I had to travel across the world to meet people from my own country. This made my eyes open, to how small and big we are. I will forever remember my first time in Europe, as a youngster joining the tour, remembering what it was like to take all that beauty and culture in at one moment.

Flood help campaign from M45

Being a member of the Round Table Matlosane 45 has given me the opportunity to make a difference in my community, and it's something that I'm very proud of. When the floods hit the Vaal River and left many people in Orkney struggling to get by, we knew that we had to act. Seeing the devastation and the impact that it was having on people's lives was heart-wrenching, and we knew that we had to do something to help.

That's why we decided to donate R 3 000 worth of clothes and food to the flood victims in Orkney. It wasn't a huge amount of money, but it was enough to make a difference and provide some relief to those who needed it the most. The gratitude and appreciation that we received from the people of Orkney made it all worth it, and it was a humbling experience to see first-hand the impact that we could make when we came together as a community.

Being a part of the Round Table Matlosane 45 has shown me the importance of giving back and helping others, and it's something that I will carry with me for the rest of my life. I'm proud to be a member of an organization that is dedicated to making a positive impact in our community, and I look forward to continuing to work with them to make a difference in the lives of others.

My First ARTSA: A Memorable Journey of Friendship, Culinary

Delights, and Teamwork.

In my exhilarating experience at the Association of Round Table Southern Africa (ARTSA), not only did I proudly clinch the yellow shirt, but I also embarked on a wonderful journey filled with friendship, culinary delights, and the power of teamwork. From the moment we set off on our adventure to the event, to participating in the Portuguese food table, the collaborative efforts of our SNOFTS members made it an unforgettable experience.

As we gathered for ARTSA, our SNOFTS member, Mike, stepped up to the challenge of running and managing the food table. With his expertise and passion, he guided us through the culinary journey, coordinating our efforts and ensuring a delightful gastronomic experience for all. As fellow members, we eagerly supported Mike, offering our assistance wherever possible, to contribute to the success of the food table.

Together, we worked as a team, embracing the tasks at hand. From preparing the Portuguese delicacies to setting up an inviting display, each member played a crucial role in bringing the flavors and traditions of Portugal to life. Our collective efforts infused the food table with a sense of camaraderie and shared accomplishment.

Beyond the food table, this spirit of teamwork resonated throughout our entire ARTSA experience. We collaborated on various activities, bonded during round table discussions, and provided support to one another throughout the event. The synergy within our SNOFTS group exemplified the power of unity and demonstrated how working together can create lasting memories.

My first ARTSA was a remarkable journey, where the friendships we forged, the culinary delights we shared, and the collective efforts we invested made it an extraordinary experience. From Mike's leadership at the food table to the invaluable contributions of each SNOFTS member, the sense of teamwork and collaboration amplified the joy and fulfilment of our participation in ARTSA.

As I proudly wear my yellow shirt cap, I carry with me the memories of not only my personal achievement but also the bonds forged through shared experiences and the remarkable teamwork displayed at the ARTSA food table.

Cooking up a storm in the Potjie!

Matlosane 45 taking part in a potjie competition and a fun day

Henro Louw

The Round Table, an international non-profit organization that works towards building strong communities, recently participated in a local potjie kos competition and came out on top. The event was a fun-filled evening that brought together members of the community and showcased the Round Table's culinary skills and team spirit.

The event was an opportunity for team building, cooking, and community engagement, which aligned with the Round Table's mission to foster strong and supportive community bonds.

The competition was fierce, with numerous teams vying for the grand prize. The Round Table's secret recipe, a mouth-watering lamb potjie, impressed the judges, who awarded the Round Table the top prize. The team was thrilled with the win and the recognition of their hard work and dedication.

A ‘potjiekos” is a meal cooked in a cast-iron pot known as “potjie”, but most South Africans refer to the dish itself as a potjie.”
- Pronounced as “poi-kee”

The Round Table's participation in the potjie kos competition was not just about winning; it was also about giving back to the community. All proceeds from the event went towards local charities and initiatives that support the less fortunate. The Round Table's efforts in this regard demonstrate their commitment to service and community building.

In conclusion, the Round Table's participation in the potjie kos competition was not only a great showcase of their culinary skills but also a testament to their dedication to serving the community. Boksburg 17 & Potchefsrtoom 47 making strong bonds.

In the spirit of camaraderie and friendship, Round Table Boksburg 17 and Potchefstroom 47 have been building strong relationships through a series of exciting raids. These encounters have not only strengthened the bond between the two tables but have also fostered a sense of unity within the Round Table community.

The first encounter took place when the gentlemen from Boksburg 17 paid a visit to Potchefstroom 47 for a memorable raid. Arriving in style with members from three different tables, including Boksburg 17 Chairman, Edenvale 63, and Jukskei 217, the night was filled with anticipation and excitement. For the chairman of Potchefstroom 47, it was an especially significant occasion as it marked his first time leading a meeting.

The raid from Boksburg 17 laid the groundwork for Potchefstroom 47 to reciprocate the visit and raid their friends in Boksburg. However, this event turned out to be nothing short of monumental. The DONKEY & My adventures in the NW:

Pipe liner from Potchefstroom gives his insight and feedback from his first raid and out of Area experience.

I was tending to matters of a work nature on Tuesday morning, when I was alluded to the fact that my weekly scheduled Pool League was postponed due to players that could not play. Just as I was confirming the new arrangements Wouter Dreyer the PRO council member from Potchefstroom 47 messages me and asked if would like to join the council members from Potchefstroom 47 Andries Du Plessis and Divan Kotze along with Wouter himself to go on a raid to Boksburg 17. By being a pipeliner at table I was very keen on going on this raid.

So off we went, leaving Potch at around 17:00 and having a great time. We got to the Boksburg 17 table and joined them with their raid meeting. The guys from Boksburg 17 put on a hell of a meeting and with all the tables represented it was great fun. We learnt a lot from the other tables and got great new ideas for fundraising. The fellowship around the tables between the guys was insane.

Afterwards the guys went around sharing good times, pins, and coins, having drinks, and talking shop. The raiding started surprisingly early with the blokes from Middleburg starting during business, but we waited to the end of the meeting. Now here's where I started my journey ….

Boksburg 17 has a tradition where there is a trophy presented every month to a member called The DOM “ Doos of The Month” , it is a Donkey …

When I sneaked into the club's room I saw the aforementioned Donkey in the Trophy case, the clubhouse convener conveniently the holder of the trophy lost it in the trophy case ? But I grabbed the donkey and stashed it in the car.

That night when I was dropped off, I grabbed the donkey out of the car. The adventures of the donkey and I started the next morning, being a supposedly busy guy, the donkey went to work with me.

Stop number one JB Marks Local Municipality Council chamber, the Donkey and I posed for a photo there were apon many of my colleagues had questions and comments, the guys were interested in what the story was behind the Donkey. The interest in the donkey and the round table was quite inspiring.

Stop number two was NTT Volkswagen Potchefstroom where I introduced the Donkey to Ruan Beukes, a friend of table. The next stop was the Round Table Potchefstroom 47 clubhouse, The Flagship, we stopped for a quick selfie and then moved on home.

The last few stops were at my pool club Bert's Pub and Gril and later that night the NWPA pool venue in Klerksdorp.

My adventures to Boksburg 17 and around Potchefstroom was a great example of the fellowship, spirit, and youthfulness. It was eye opening and even more inspiring for me as an individual, that what we as table do and represent in our country.
