From the Presdident

Fellow Tablers,

I had the honour and privileged to have been part of the associaton executive and serve our members and the community as the Inkundla Editor in my outgoing year before I go out as a 41er.

What a memorable year it was and journey it has been, I will ever be thankful for raising my hand. I gained valuable experience, added to me skillset and has grown immensely as a person.

I trust and believe that I largely achieved my goals that set for me at the beginning of the year, and I can only hope that I made the organization and its members proud. Everything second, minute, hour and late nights to meet the deadlines was worth it and the journey will remain with me forever.

Serving the community through this wonderful organization for 11years have shaped me in many ways for the better and will ever be thankful. I encourage you to table to the fullest, challenge yourself, and you will see in the end how this organization have shaped and developed you and highlighted skills within you that you never knew existed.

May the spirit of camaraderie and fellowship continue to guide us in the years to come.

RTSA Tablers,

It is wonderful to have a printed version of the Inkundla again!!!! I need to congratulate Pienaar Allers, Inkundla Editor on each and every Inkundla that he (with the help of all our Tables) have produced during the last year. This printed edition was made possible by an Initiative of our Inkundla Editor, to design bar mats and sell them to raise funds in order to pay the printing costs. Our RTSA Treasurer, Lihann Kriek, also assisted in this great initiative.

I remember that in my younger tabling days, the Inkundla served as a book of knowledge into Round Table, our areas, tables, and projects. I still remember Spidey’s article about giving everyone an opportunity to decide for themselves to be part of this wonderful organisation and not to prejudged prospective members. Sean Trautman’s article about “tabling outside the 4 walls of your clubhouse” was an eye opener and one of the reasons that I have travelled much more than what I should have.

The Inkundla also gave me insight on other tables and projects done by other tables. The Inkundla of the past and present, has a wealth of table knowledge, and we should protect the future existence of the magazine at all costs. It is one of the few tools we have to let tablers learn more about our Association and the best part of it, is that its written and produced by our own tablers. We have undoubtedly, one, if not the best magazine within RTI.

FromthePresident

I recently received 2 old Inkundla magazines – a 1998 and 1999 printed edition as gift. It was surreal to see well known 41ers in their younger days. I forwarded the pictures of the articles, taken with my cell phone and all were thankful for the shared memories. In some years’ time, this edition will also remind us of the good old tabling days.

It is difficult to belief that the past year has flown by so fast. It was an Honour and a Privilege to serve as the RTSA President and my proudest tabling moments will always be to wear the green president’s jacket and the purple gong (or ecclesiastical mauve as Alan Malan would say). Thank you to all tablers for the past year – RTSA cannot exist without its members and Joe Tabler is the real Hero in any story!!!

Please keep on drafting articles and reading the Inkundla, because, the memories recorded herein, will be of the few things we have left to remind us of our tabling days, when it’s all done.

I would not have been able to have completed this term in office without the support of my dear wife, Marlise. Thank you for your support and always being willing to keep the house running, while I was away on RTSA duties.

I look forward to seeing everyone at ARTSA, Mossel Bay in a few weeks’ time and like any other Artsa, it will be a massive success!!!

ARTSA EDITION MAY 2023

The Heart of a Tabler

Dear Fellow Tablers, Guest and Friends.

I would like to share a very special story wich is close to my heart and what Round Table was and still is capable of. I (Foxie Lieuwes) had to go down to Pongola for a work project.I know the town and the people I was brought up in, Pongola, and my Father was a Tabler at Pongola 222 and also where my love and Pasion for Table started.

Pongola is a very small farming town based in Northern KwaZulu Natal, the Pongola Table has been placed in dormancy. So my story starts with I arrived the Sunday night at Pongola and booked in at the Guest House for the week. Myaelf and the work guys had supper and went to our rooms to have a good night rest for the morning to come.So on Monday morning we woke up went for breakfast and made our way to the sugar mill to report for Induction to commence work. To my surprise the main contractor did not submit our safety file and I had to make up a complete new Safety File before we could even think about doing induction. Without the required resources and correct equipment I could not have done it and to travel back and down from Middelburg would not have been productive and economical.

So I went to an old Tabler who have tabled with my dad in their good old days and of which I have so many memories. So of I went to Mnr Corrie Van Rensburg a past chairman of PONGOLA 222 to asked for Assistance from his office. With a great smile Corrie said to me,Foxie, you know it will never be a problem for one Tabler to assist another and help when in need. He made his own personal Office available and offered me a chair and logged me on to their Wi-Fi and gave me access to a Printer.

So I started to work and get my safety file in order and I could print all the necessary documents for my office who mailed mailed it to me. In about three days my safety file was complete and approved and we could start to work on site. I can with an open heart say this was only possible due to one tabler knowing a fellow tabler and to assist with any problem where they can. This is why I enjoy table so much and what we have to offer one another is truly amazing. I really hope that Pongola 222 will get active soon and Table like in the old days making a difference and sharing the knowledge with others. I can easily say that Pongola 222 will definitely be with me forever as my roots started there with table and how one more Matured tabler opens his doors and welcomes a you tabler in to assist and to share stories and old memories this makes my blood flow.

Thank you for taking Time reading this article and a very great thank you to Mnr Corrie Van Rensburg and his wife and office Pollol Nel Brokers for all the assistance and Help you have offered. May you all be blessed and see you soon.

Kind Regards

Foxie Lieuwes.

Middelburg 126 Chairman.

The 19th Hole

Once again it was epic! The second annual 41er Association of Southern Africa Golf Tour was hosted in Stellenbosch at the end of March.

Past RTSA and RTI President Rikus “Running Bare” Badenhorst and past RTSA President Stuart Hunter were the conveners of the golf tour and like last year, the entire weekend was like hitting a hole in one on a Par 5 – absolute magic!

Attended by 12 golfers (and I am using the term very loosely) including two internationals and two non-playing bar cart drivers, everyone agreed that it was an unforgettable weekend of fun and fellowship where long-standing friendships were renewed, and new friendships cemented.

It started on the Thursday with a welcoming party where everyone received his tournament shirt and long walks down memory lane over a glass or two of wine was at the order of the evening.

On Friday morning – with dark clouds threatening to derail the day’s golf – everyone was in good spirits and ready to tee of at Stellenbosch Golf Club. With a slight chill in the air, the first four-ball started proceedings.

After about an hour or so, the dark clouds made way for blue skies and sun and the weather turned into perfect golf weather. Unfortunately, not even the best golfing weather could help some players get the ball past the ladies tee, but it is not about the winning, it is about the taking part…

The day was ended at the 19th hole with great food, fellowship and fun.

Day 2 started with even darker clouds over Stellenbosch and as everyone made their way to Stellenbosch Golf Club for the 3rd Exec meeting of the 41ers Association, the heavens opened.

The Class of 2023 in their fancy tour shirts prior to tee-off on day 1 of the second annual 41er Golf Tour in Stellenbosch. In the first row, from left are Tyrone Juul, Suren Packery and Ben Burger; second row: Jeroen Schuuring, Rob Gordon, Tony Stock, Stuart Hunter and Frankie “Two Hats” Baden; third row: Peter Harding, Dellorin Bornman, Tim Brauteseth, Rikus Badenhorst and Nico McNamara.
INKUNDLA | May 2023 | 09

The second round of golf, this time at neighbouring De Zalze Golf Club, due to start after the meeting, was in serious jeopardy due to the bad weather.

The merry band of golfers were however not going to let any amount of torrential rain ruin their second round and so they teed off just before noon in miserable weather. Unfortunately for the players, the bar cart was not equipped to go out in the rain (which was the official version of the story), so it had to remain at the 19th hole with two very disappointed bar cart drivers who could not provide their essential service to players on the course.

So, after 18 very wet holes, the players headed for the change room and after a warm shower and dry clothes everyone was ready for more fellowship and the prize-giving at the Stellenbosch Golf Club, which was the headquarters of the golf tour.

Winner of the inaugural event in George in 2022, Peter Harding (past 41er President) could not defend his title and Rikus “Running Bare” Badenhorst was crowned as the winner.

Everyone agreed that the second annual 41er Golf Tour was amazing and that this event is a must for every 41er, even if you are not a golfer.

The third annual 41er Golf Tour will be hosted by the Johannesburg 41ers next year, so start cleaning those golf clubs as this also promises to be an unmissable event.

Round Table South Cape

Custodians of The Buffalo

Round Table South Cape is an area of Round Table Southern Africa that is situated in the commonly known, Garden Route. Currently Round Table South Cape Area comprises of 4 Tables, namely, George 30, Mossel Bay 32, Oudtshoorn 33 and Swellendam 179.

Round Table South Cape Area is perhaps best known throughout Round Table both locally and internationally, as the custodians of The Buffalo Club. It is here that the Buffalo Club and its rich traditions came to be, in 1991. Therefore, the reference to “The Original Buffalo Zone”, as can be seen on our Area Logo.

We are a small area that accounts for massive results. We are driven by our desire and passion for making a difference in the communities we serve. Thus, our motto, #MaaknVerskil. Each Table in our Area carries with it a deeply engrained role and responsibility to deliver and continue to grow lasting impactful change, that uplifts and restores the lives of all those that we encounter to a higher sense of self.

As an Area, we are responsible for various projects annually, which have garnered National and International attention such as the Beach Cleanup Campaign, founded by Mossel Bay 32 and later adopted by George 30. As coastal Tables, the importance of these ongoing projects can never be understated.

Our rich traditions are upheld by the close bond we have with those that came before us. This is evident, given our strong 41’er contingent who continuously interact with us to offer advice and assistance when needed. We also boast extremely strong bonds with various other service clubs throughout our Area, such as Ladies Circle, Lions, Rotary, Vryburgers and MOTHS. Through these relationships, we can combine and serve our communities to a larger extent.

As an Area that carries with it, all the beauty and splendour this country has to offer, we are an extremely popular destination for International and Local Tablers who visit our shores. This serves as a cornerstone of the fellowship and forever lasting relationships we forge with all who visit us.

If you are ever in our part of the world, we welcome you.

2023,

We had players and sponsors travelling from all over to attend this fabulous day of ours and ultimately making it a huge success again. We also had our fellow tablers from Port Elizabeth that came through and wrote in a couple of four balls and also sponsor some prizes.

Send me a whatsapp if you are interested in seeing our very own past area Chairman Pienaar’s excellent tee shot on the sixth hole, which I have on video, sorry not sorry Balju haha.

The day was ended off with the awesome prize giving and an auction, out of the auction we also generated funds that supports our cause and what we stand for. It was again great event and we had so much fun with everyone who attended, it was filled with great fellowship and laughs, especially when we had a recap on the day and everyone’s “great shots” they played.

The Golf Day is our second biggest event we have in a term, and it was a great success again. We, as Kirkwood 78, would like to thank our community, sponsors and players for all their efforts and support on this day.

EASTER CELEBRATION

Round Table Southern Africa exist to make impactful change in our communities and Southern Africa as a whole. We retain and grow our members, young men willing to give up their time, and skills to give back to those less fortunate. We Inspire, We grow, We transform lives, We disrupt, We engage, We CHANGE.

Round Table PE West 142 is one of the local clubs based in Port Elizabeth and has been in existence for the last 50years uplifting the community through fundraisers. Our Easter Egg Collection is one of our annual projects whereby we spend our time collecting Easter Eggs for less fortunate kids.

The event this year was held on the 25th of March 2023 and we partnered with Sunridge Village Shopping Centre. The day started early for the

young gentlemen setting up everything to be ready when shoppers arrived. Members and their partners took shifts and handed out flyers to the patrons throughout the day. Round Table PE West 142 members want to thank the kind-hearted public who embraced us with open hearts. The day start very well, and the momentum continued throughout the day with generous donations by the patrons.

The day ended around 15h00 and Round Table PE West 142 were speechless as 3800 easter eggs worth and estimate of R10,000 was raised on the day. We decided on two beneficiaries this year namely Shepherds Table in Timothy Valley and Little Angels Pre-School in Kuyga whom rely on donations severely.

It was a very successful project and larger than previous years. It is great to see that the time spend by the members can make such an impact in the community. We want to thank Sunridge Village for allowing us the to run the project at their premises and then for the public we kindly thank you for your generous donations. Together we made an impact on the lives of the youngsters.

There has never been a better time to put your hand up and be the difference you want to see in this world. Round Table Southern Africa – Changing lives for the better, leaving impactful change and believing whole heartedly that we live in the best part of the World.

#selfieinvader

It all started at the Namibian Area induction dinners when Leigh had the bright idea to invade the outgoing chairmen’s speeches with a selfie. In 2018, at ARTSA, the tradition took on a new level when the outgoing President, Andrew Lea, was selfie bombed during his speech. This was the start of the now famous #selfieinvasion ARTSA tradition.

The tradition continued in 2019 when Sean Trautmann was selfie bombed, but unfortunately, due to the cancellation of the 2020 ARTSA and the live streaming of the 2021 event, the tradition had to take a brief hiatus. However, the tradition was revived in 2022 when Stefan Grobler welcomed the Namibian chairmen on stage with open arms.

As the #selfieinvasion gained momentum, the incoming President, Louis Radley, asked that the tradition continue at the ARTSA 2023. Werner Swanepoel was the outgoing President to receive the latest selfie in the #selfieinvasion tradition.

The tradition shows no sign of stopping, with the promise to continue as long as the selfie invader is present at ARTSA. So, next time you attend an ARTSA event, make sure to have your best selfie face ready and wait for the #selfieinvasion to strike!

PS. Alan Malan and Christo Bezuidenhout, please attend the next ARTSA. We must make up for 2020 and 2021!

9 Cyclists 9 Days 1240km

Hartz 186 is a Table nestled in the middle of the Vaalharts irrigation scheme, one of the greenest parts of the Northern Cape. A community with the small town “do all you can do” mentality and a big Round Table heart at it’s core.

The Skema2Sea 2.0 project started over a year ago when avid cyclists from the community pitched their vision to us and asked us to join hands with them in making the dream a reality. It was an easy YES for Hartz 186 as it was aimed towards helping a young gentleman by the name of Shiloh Grewar from our community who has been fighting a terrible disease (Cystic fibrosis) for as long as he can remember. A warrior of a young man!

Cystic Fibroses awareness was our main goal to reach on our journey to helping this young gentleman. It meant a lot to us as individual tablers to give a young boy hope and enable him to have dreams of a bright future as a young gentleman.

More than a year down the road of where it all began with Skema2Sea 2.0, multiple projects, long hours, late nights, hard work and the fulfilment to see the fruits of our labour (a labour of love for

table) we can say that we made a difference. It took a couple of passionate tablers, our loving community, a bunch of iron willed cyclists and a lot of new friends along the way to get it done. We did it!

9 Cyclists, 9 Days, 1240km, 7 Tables getting involved, millions of memories and the impactful change that has been made in many lives during this journey. What an extraordinary adventure to be part of…

At ARTSA 2023, Hartz 186 received the Round Table Southern Africa Project of the year award for Skema2Sea 2.0, we still can’t stop smiling. We feel honoured to have received the award for project of the year and it inspires us for the future. Thank you to Round Table Southern Africa and all our fellow brothers in Table for the acknowledgement of our passion of Table and for giving us the tools and means to fulfil the task at hand.

Yours in Table

My First ARTSA Experience

I recently attended my first ARTSA event and I must say, I was blown away. The Bosveld boys did an incredible job organizing the event, and the fellowship, music, entertainment, and overall vibe was simply amazing.

One of the best parts of the event was being able to meet local and international tablers. It was so refreshing to connect with new people and share stories over a drink. Swapping pins and coins was also a great way to solidify new friendships.

What impressed me the most was the sense of camaraderie and lack of pretence among the attendees. Everyone was so welcoming and genuine, and it was evident that we were all there to support each other and have a good time.

I left the event feeling energized and inspired. I also made a promise to myself to attend more events like this and to visit other tables around the country. It's important to step out of our comfort zones and connect with other tablers to broaden our sense of fellowship

within the organization.

Overall, my first ARTSA experience was unforgettable, and I can't wait to attend the next one. I encourage all tablers to make an effort to attend events outside of their own table and experience the incredible sense of community that Round Table has to offer.

Congrats to our new Exec, RTSA is definitely in safe hands for 2023/4 with a seriously strong team and Pres at the helm.

The Exec Meeting, AGM and Gala Dinner in Adelaide, which was one for the books, well done guys, you put on one hell of an weekend! I was so proud of Cradock for winning the EP Table with the best growth in 2022/23. We went from 4 to 8 members

I was the only one of our members able to attend ARTSA this year in Bosveld and I want to thank Willie and Mark from Algoa 108 for letting me join you on the 2000km adventure.

This was my 4th ARTSA and it was an amazing experience, from the opening event, the hardcore hut, the forums, the Area food tables, to the Meeting and the Gala Dinner, it was all a blast. Unfortunately I came down with the flu or some variant of it and the trip back on

Sunday was a struggle. Again, thank you Willie for taking us and bringing us home safely. And also, Piensie for a spot to stay in the Chalets.

I had a couple of days to recover but that Thursday Rubin and I jumped in his bakkie and was off to Oudtshoorn to join our 37 Numbers Tour that was already going since Saturday! We took over from Yster and Monde who started the tour in Cape Town, we met them just as they were leaving Oudtshoorn.

I jumped on the bus and Rubin followed, meeting 34 International guests was an experience of a lifetime, from Norway, Belgium, Austria, Switzerland and England. Everyone has unique stories to tell and they gave me a lot of perspective on the world out there!

What is happening at Cradock 37 Growth

We had some fun times together but more on that in the next Issue as the tour is still ongoing.

I just want to give a special shout out to the members of Cradock 37 and all our 41rs for everything they did to make this tour possible. And also a big thanks to all the international guests who travelled so far to come have some fellowship with us in Cradock. I hope very much to go to one of the Euro Meetings soon.

We are getting ready for some big projects this year starting with the Winter Knights and a Music Trivia Evening on 24 June.

Belgium Visit

Wat meer sou jy vra wil ‘n man uit so kuiertjie kry?

The team at East London 1 themed their monthly Bingo evening at Stirling Lodge to celebrate Mother’s Day. The Bingo evenings, which takes place once a month, always prove to be a delightful experience for both the elderly residents and the Tablers and their families.

As the residents gathered around the tables, a sense of anticipation filled the air. The Tablers distributed bingo cards, and the games began. Laughter, cheers, and occasional cries of "bingo!" echoed through the hall as the numbers were called out. The spirited competition fostered a lively atmosphere, and the participants, young and old alike, revelled in the friendly rivalry. Plenty of treats and prizes were handed out and the delicious cupcakes & cards that each participant was treated to was received with immense

gratitude. So many of Stirling Lodge’s residents do not have family locally and it was an honour to celebrate with all the moms and grannies.

The presence of the Tablers families and kids added an extra layer of enthusiasm to the event. They engaged the residents in conversation, listened to their stories, and shared their own experiences. It was evident that the Tablers genuine interest and empathy created a sense of connection that transcended age.

We love giving back. We wanted to make a difference, and seeing the smiles on the residents' faces made it all worthwhile. We hope that this event inspires others to bridge the generation gap and spread happiness in their communities.

Mother’s Day Bingo East London 1

The success of the bingo night at Stirling Lodge serves as a testament to the power of intergenerational connection and the impact that small gestures can have on both young and old alike. The initiative taken by these young men not only brought joy and excitement to the residents but to all who attended and partook.

In a world that often focuses on the differences between generations, this heart-warming event reminds us of the shared humanity that unites us all. It goes to show that compassion and understanding can create bridges between generations, fostering a stronger and more inclusive community for everyone.

FISHING SOCIAL 2023

This year we decided to do things a little different from previous years so we decided that our annual boys only fishing trip will include the ladies. Therefore, the trip commenced later than planned on the morning of 26 February as the 142 crew dragging their wives from the bed to the harbour. This year we decided to head out with a new captain, Mr Koekemoer and his awesome boat, Calypso.

Racing out the harbour we headed to the wildside and before you can say drag the lines were in the water with great anticipation ready to catch the big ones. The captain became wary that we were the only charters on that side of the bay and carted us to the sheds on the other side of the bay.

With not much time left for fishing we had to make it count. JP Zet du Plessis managed to pull in a massive Yellow Bellow Rock Cod which was the beast of the day and the rest of us licking our wounds with some not-too-shabby pan sizes. Much to our surprise no one was hanging overboard from seasickness and the ladies loved the trip.

Thank you to all the tablers and legs who made the trip an awesome one as we look forward to the next big social.

Reply on Behalf of the 41ers

Dear fellow Tablers, I was given the great honour to do the reply on behalf of the 41ers, at first you think this is a piece of cake, but when you sit and think of all your years in table and what you as a person achieved, the reality hits you, this is the end, this is goodbye.

I’m a Proud past Algoa 108 member, and I will continue to support them where needed, I’m fortunate enough today to be able to account to you the Absolute Impactfulchange that round table has had on me and all past members alike.

I am humbled by the realization of how small we actually are in the bigger picture of things. How truly honoured we were to have been placed in this position, to have received the Rondel from the giants before us, to have been able to wear it with pride on our chest and now to be able to pass it on to the next generation of tablers.

I must admit, i’m jealous of those staying behind, because today for the first time the words Adopt, Adapt and Improve Hurts!!, I realize that I’m the end product of those words, the organisation that taught me and so many other gentlemen to be a better person, not just in table but also in our family, and in our communities.

As a past tabler we stand here today as complete as round table would have wanted us to be, we can only hope that we applied our organisation motto with some degree of success towards our fellow table brothers, our communities, our home, our family and ourselves as individual’s.

Forgetting Round table would be absolutely impossible, joining for community service and end up staying for fellowship has never been truer, never forget your brothers that stood side by side doing handouts with the local community. In my mind, our limited years together we have seen more, lived more, been more and served more than most other men would have in their lifetime.

No number of words would ever be enough to describe the level of appreciation that we have for this organisation, thank you to each and every person that played a part in our table journey, it’s not the end of our path together, just a slightly quieter one going forward, but we will always be there to assist where we can.

We would like to thank our beautiful families for enjoying this journey with us, you are amazing, and we loved you very much.

The gents went 2 days earlier to experience the sites, scenes and beer of Amsterdam before heading through to Goes for the meeting. An amazing time was had experiencing the country for the first time and making new awesome friends along the way. A very productive business meeting was had where the Hilton242 gents promoted their 2025 Afritour, which everyone is very excited for. This was followed by an exciting and eventful cabaret evening and a magnificent gala dinner.

After Goes the guys headed up to Coevorden to meet up with some of the 41ers and tablers from RT Coevorden 142 before heading back home. An amazing time was had and even better friends were made!

We look forward to having our brothers from Europe head to South Africa in 2025, but before then, we’ll see you at Euro meeting 2024 in Rotherham, UK.

To develop Fellowship among young men through the medium of their professional and business occupations.

At 2022 EP Wintercon, Werner Swanepoel left a well defined footprint on the EP Area. "Gees," he said, "is not the same as fellowship. While fellowship may occasionally come with some gees, we must not confuse the two." While I may not have got his words precisely right (en as ek het, aanvaar asseblief my verskonings Mnr. Swanepoel), I think it's safe to say that I have fairly captured his meaning.

Given the enthusiasm with which Mr Swanepoel’s message was received by the Area, I can’t help but find an irony in the fact that we - generally speaking - spend so little time reflecting on the nature of the word fellowship.

There is no evidence that all Tablers from All clubs understand fellowship to be the same thing. If anything, given the wide variety in fellowship that we see in our Clubs, it is clear that no two Tables approach this issue from the same understanding.

While that may be the case, we, as men and as Tablers, are charged with a moral duty to develop fellowship among young men. At the start of every meeting of the Round Table, this duty is acknowledged and reaffirmed by each and every Tabler. We cannot skirt this duty.

In order to work towards achieving this duty, we need to arrive at a common definition of the concept of fellowship. At the very minimum,

regardless of interpersonal affinity (affiniteit) or animosity (vyandigheid) between members, fellowship must exist as a state of principled cooperation and collaboration between Tablers. Tablers need not be friends, but they must be fellows in their work to achieve the aims and objectives of Round Table Southern Africa. While two principled Table gentlemen may not be friends, it is possible for them to work together by focusing on common objectives, maintaining professionalism, identifying shared interests or values, establishing boundaries and rules, recognising and leveraging differences and building trust over time. While challenges may arise, putting personal differences aside and working towards the common goals of Round Table can lead to effective collaboration despite the initial interpersonal dislike.

This state of being will allow individuals to pool their strengths, knowledge, and resources to tackle and overcome common goals. It must work to cultivate a sense of unity and understanding. It must also work to promote empathy, kindness, and respect.

It can be extremely challenging, however, if not impossible, for fellowship to emerge between a principled person and an unprincipled person. The contrast in values, ethics, and approaches to work will create a fundamental

misalignment that will invariably do damage to us.

A principled individual operates with integrity, honesty, and a strong moral compass, while an unprincipled person may prioritise personal gain, disregard ethical considerations or engage in deceitful practices. Such differences will lead to conflict, erosion of trust and compromised outcomes.

Without shared principles as a foundation, the collaboration is likely to be fraught with tension, ethical dilemmas, and compromised results, making it highly impractical for a principled person to work harmoniously with an unprincipled counterpart. This is not what we want to see in Round Table Southern Africa.

In conclusion, each and every Table ought to have a conversation where it establishes the absolute minimum standards for fellowship at that Table. Once established, that Table must be ruthlessly intolerant of any unprincipled diversion from that general standard and, by extension, of any unprincipled acts or actions undertaken by individual Tablers. If we can achieve that, we’ll have a stronger association overnight.

Turning The Tide On Ocean Pollution Mosselbay 32

Round Table Mossel Bay's commitment to keeping our beaches clean and healthy, as well as protecting and enhancing ocean health, has been re-affirmed with our most recent set of Beach Cleanups.

Spanning over the past two months and in collaboration with volunteers and environmentally conscious institutions, our Members set off to collect and discard of plastic debris scattered along the very popular Hartenbos coastline.

To quantify our efforts, waste collected is now being weighed and recorded to inspire evidence-based action, awareness and education on the scale of ocean pollution, even on Blue Flag beaches.

It's up to our generation to be cognizant of the potentially life-threatening effects of ocean pollution and to mobilise proactive efforts to keep plastic waste in check.

Ultimately, our goal should be to stem the root of the problem, getting to a point where single-use plastic is obsolete.

Mossel Bay 32, with the help of our steadfast volunteers, will keep on turning the tide on ocean pollution, and explore innovative ways to strengthen our ongoing campaign.

Pretoria 136 - Bosberaad

With our AGM done and new exec elected it was time for 136 to sit down and start planning our usual very busy year ahead.

But seeing that it was such a scorcher of a day in Pretoria, I let the gents get out of their formal wear and go cool off a bit in the pool to get those brains back in action.

Cooled off and drinks in hand we sat down for something that every chairman before me said, it will be short and run smoothly but never does, and yet I still uttered those words and jinxed us all.

With our new Secretary taking notes and adding the events on our new favorite app TimeTree, 136 began sorting our 20 plus projects for the year between table conferences , RTSA projects, Pretoria collective

projects and one of my top goals for the year some family friendly socials.

This year I was a very fortunate situation where every project that came up had a convener in seconds with 136 tablers chomping at the bit to put their hands up to convene each project. What impressed me even more was the fact that the newer tablers wanted to add their own spin to projects and bringing new projects for the table to Rock!

When all was said and done with our next AGM on the Calendar. 136 is ready for 2023 so watch out for what is come this year from 136 and who knows maybe we will throw in another few projects to the year.

Welkom 40

Welkom 40 had our Annul Winter Knights drive again in front of Ocean Basket in Welkom on Friday 2nd of June. We collected R2400 in cash and 12 Bags of old Clothes and Blankets.

As winter approaches and temperatures drop, many individuals and families in our community face the harsh reality of enduring the cold without adequate warmth. In response to this pressing need, the Winter Knights initiative has emerged as a shining beacon of hope. With a noble goal in mind, the project aims to collect blankets and

Winter Knights

old Clothes from the community, bringing comfort and relief to those who need it most during the frigid months.

The impact of the Winter Knights initiative extends beyond providing physical warmth. It fosters a sense of community spirit and togetherness, strengthening the bonds between neighbours and creating a support network for those in need. The project serves as a reminder that even in the coldest of seasons, the warmth of human compassion can shine brightly.

Winter Knights stands as a testament to the power of community unity and compassion. By collecting blankets from the community, the project brings comfort and relief to those enduring the harsh winter cold. It reminds us that a small act of kindness, such as donating a blanket or old clothes, can have a profound impact on someone's life. Together, we can make a difference and ensure that no one in our community is left out in the cold during the winter months.

When we sat down in the beginning of the year to discuss our various projects and convenors, I immediately knew Winter Knights was the project I wanted to convene as I know what this project means to both me and the beneficiaries. The sense of feeling that overwhelms you when you see a smile on the faces during the hand-outs.

The collections started off a bit slow, so we had to think out of the box this year as we are all feeling the grunt as we are trying to find our feet coming out of the Covid pandemic.

We contacted our local Algoa Toyota Dealership as they are a registered partner for the Round Table Winter Knights project. Without any hesitation Mr William Whitefield ‘Algoa Toyota General Manager’ said we must come & see him. Upon chatting to Mr Whitefield, we realised there was major shortage of blankets for our project this year. Mr Whitefield then made a few calls, and we were called in to come & collect a total of 30 brand new blankets which they went and purchased for us to hand over to the homeless & less fortunate. Some of his staff members also assisted by collecting clothing & nonperishable foods for our Winter Knights hand-out.

We then decided to contact some of the schools in the area to see if we were able to collect some kiddies clothing as we knew there are plenty of younger children out on the streets in the Icey cold conditions.

Dr Whale from Herbert Hurd Primary School was very fast in getting back to us to say they admire what we are doing for the community & advised that her staff & pupils will do whatever they can in assisting us with the collection.A few days later we received a call from Dr Whale, who advised they had managed to collect quite a bit of clothing for our project this year.

By this point we had collected quite a lot of blankets, clothing, shoes, sanitary pads & non-perishable foods.

MORE.... We wanted MORE!!!

So we did it the 108 way & decided what better way to brave the cold, then to physically get cold….. We decided to host a Speedo-BraaiNight on 20th May, where we as 108 Members braved the Icey cold conditions & invited the public to a braai at our Club-house in Fernglen while we braai’d for them in our

speedo’s – All we asked for was the public bring more clothing & blankets for us to be able to give out to those in need – What a jol was had by everybody who attended.

While us men were focusing on our collection, The Legs (Wives/ partners) of Round Table Algoa 108 decided they would also like to do a collection of Sanitary Pads for the homeless woman on the streets. This was the turning point in the project where we quickly realised we had hit the nail-on-the-head with all the clothing and blankets received from

INKUNDLA | June 2023 | 36

Winter Knights Algoa 108

Now with our great collection done & dusted we realised this was going to be a bit of a mission to get all of these things out on the night of our hand-out.

Aha – Thinking out of the box again…..

One of our members then suggested that we should try to organise a truck for the hand-out which to our dismay actually happened. While we were busy having our monthly Project Meeting quick before the hand-out, ‘Vroom Vroom’, there this 8-Ton Cattle truck pulled in with one of our members behind the wheel. He was lucky enough to get the truck & diesel sponsored to us at no charge whatsoever from Joe Liddell at Lidco Livestock which was a lifesaver for us at the time.

We then packed the truck with +- R45 000 worth of clothing, sanitary pads, blankets and a HUGE pot of hot Samp & Beans for the hand-out on the streets of Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth). We then all jumped aboard the truck at 9pm on 15th June & hit the streets towards Kabega Park looking for any vagrants hiding in any form of shelter they were able to find as the weather was quickly starting to turn cold & wet.

We then made our way down through to Newton Park where we managed to find quite a few people sleeping under trees, between buildings and even in cardboard boxes. We then managed to get into a few deep & dark corners down town in Central where the last of our stuff was then handed out to the homeless.

Needless to say, the smiles and gratefulness of these homeless people’s faces when they receive some attention, warm clothing, a blanket and some hot food is enough to shed a tear to any man.

I would like to thank every single member of Round Table Algoa 108 and their families for all the effort put into this amazing heartfelt project.

Also, a major thank you to each & every sponsorship who assisted us this year, without all of you this would not have been possible.

Secunda Warmfees 2023

Secunda 231 has had the privilege of hosting their first Warmfees featuring Martin Bester and band as the main event. As we all know, Warmfees is a massive contribution towards the Winter Knights project and because of this event we were able to make a huge impact to our community with R212 000 in cash donations and 3280 blankets in collection, safe to say the day was a success especially with the help from our fellow tablers at Middleburg 126 and the gents from Bosveld area. To know that we as a community

can come together to make a #impactfulchange for those who need it most during these cold winter nights is an honour and makes me proud to be a part of the greatest organization in the world. The event was held at Laerskool Trichardt, majority of the funds will go towards the SAVF Secunda Child and Youth Care Centre as we are also in the works of trying to get them a minibus to ensure there is sufficient transportation for the children. Many of the blankets we have already given out to the orphanages and the

homeless, we are planning on giving out the rest to old age homes and to whoever is in dire need of it. We as Secunda 231 is unexplainably grateful for the help and contribution made by the community and other tables as well as the massive donation of R50 000 made by Jacaranda themselves. We are looking forward to next year’s Warmfees and to make it another lekker one.

Edelweiss Tour

How I accidentally joined…

So, funny story. I left Praha, Czech Republic late on a Friday long weekend afternoon. I happened to be on a bus, heading for Vienna in Austria, and I had no idea where I was going to sleep. Then I went off to Tabler World, which some people still can’t access, and looked up Vienna. I stumbled upon Mr. Borris, The Pink Panther. Per my usual nosy messages, I asked him for a quick beer and possible home hosting, thinking the obvious would happen. He then replied with a quick message, that they had a tour on that weekend, and following the week as well. Nevertheless, he had a bed for me. Upon arrival the following morning at the bus stop, I was greeted by my old friend! Chatting and encountering like old friends. Then to my question that followed, I was SHOCKED! “What tour is going on?” Just like the pinnacle of tours all over the world… but in a calmer answer was I responded to. With my luck, and good timing I had the privilege to extend my one day, into a three day stop before heading onwards again. Alongside myself, I was joined by three planned members from ARTSA NNC Area to attend the tour. We had a blast and was so thankful for the Austrian experience and hospitality. We went on such an amazing tour through Vienna city center and surrounding areas. We even went to a theme park where I was pale as a ghost after half of the carnival’s beer & pizza was inside me, then shaking me like a cocktail. Nonetheless, the views from a world record holder carousel were even more exceptional. The landscape and scene from above the city will always be one to cherish. There was even time for what the Europeans call a BBQ, which is meat cooked very fast on a gas heater. Still, the beers were flowing, and the conversations found their way through the room, with RSA being a talking point. The fact that we were all so in tune, and that I was welcomed so easily was truly remarkable of this organization. I found and made friends across the world, and I had to travel across the world to meet people from my own country. This made my eyes open, to how small and big we are. I will forever remember my first time in Europe, as a youngster joining the tour, remembering what it was like to take all that beauty and culture in at one moment.

Euro Meeting 23

Regensburg, Germany

My first Euro meeting outside South Africa. I attended the South Africa one in 2019 in Mossel Bay and that was already an eye opener. The 2023 Euro meeting was held in Regensburg Germany, and I must say Regensburg did not disappoint. I had to do a lot of travelling to get to Regensburg and back, in total I was on 6 different airplanes and 2 trains.

I landed in Munich and from there a took a train to Regensburg, it took me about an hour from Munich to Regensburg by train. What a beautiful city of Regensburg, the locals called it little Italy the city with a soul. I arrived there the Friday afternoon and my home host collected me from the train station, and we went to registrations in a local pub in the heart of Regensburg. The local pub belonged to a 41er from Regensburg, and they have booked out the pub for the whole weekend for the euro meeting. Arrived there I got my first cold beer for the weekend and definitely not the last.

The Friday night we had a party at a local night club where we dressed up representing our countries and each table got a chance to perform a song from their country. We partied till late. Saturday morning was an early rise, and we did a tour of the town. We were divided into teams with question about the town and we had to go and find answer in the town. What a nice way to explore the town. The afternoon we had leisure time of our own and everybody took a nap to recover for the big party Saturday night.

The Saturday night party was held at a famous night club in Regensburg, we all arrived dressed up for the party and man what a party, delicious food, cold beer, and we danced till morning hours. Sunday morning was time to say goodbye and with all Euro meetings the famous tradition of the men’s meeting. All the different tables bring their famous drink from their country and the host table must drink shots from every drink. That all the Regensburg men took a nap after that. What an unbelievable experience for me and the best thing was all the new friends and family I made over the weekend. Goodbye Regensburg thanks for all the memories.

On the 27th May 2023 we braved the cold and stood outside Pick n Pay to collect non-perishable food for Estcourt 74 “Winter Knights” drive. This was something special, to ask our community for help and to see the amount of help that was given, was amazing!

experience as a guest to a pipeliner at Roundtable Matlosane 45.

Firstly, something about me, I am an owner of a brokerage focusing on short-term and crop insurance mostly in the Agriculture Market.

I am 32 years old, married to a wonderful wife and in January became the proud father of a beautiful baby boy. I enjoy a good braai, hunting, golf and expanding my network through social events.

I attended a social meeting in 2022 and I was intrigued with the whole concept of brotherhood and community. I did not really have the time to join at that stage and always regretted not getting more involved. I really enjoyed the experience.

I received a call to join a social meeting this year and the culture and energy at Matlosane 45 was just infectious. I immediately jumped on the opportunity to get involved. Being a person who works from home and not having a lot of colleagues this was the perfect way for me to socialize with likeminded individuals.

There is an extremely tight bond between the members, and they know how to have a good time while being productive.

Matlosane 45 truly represents the values of the roundtable. It is very inspiring to see young men giving up their time and effort to help others without expecting anything in return.

It is nice to enjoy a drink with people who are having a positive effect on the community rather than just moping around and complaining about the issues we all face. I have had a wonderful time attending the social and business meetings.

I had a lot of fun at the winter conference, which gave me a better understanding of what Roundtable was all about.

I was recently inducted as pipeliner, and I am excited to launch a project and to be involved in everything Matlosane 45 and Roundtable are involved with.

Watch this space because 45 is well and truly alive!

Road Side Soup by Matlosane 45

In a heartfelt effort to make a difference in our community, Matlosane 45 organized a roadside soup kitchen in the impoverished area of Dawkinsville. With compassion and a drive to alleviate hunger, we distributed approximately 40 liters of nourishing soup and 60 loaves of bread. It was a humbling experience to witness even the smallest children lining up eagerly, seeking warmth and sustenance from a simple cup of soup.

This outreach initiative served as a powerful reminder for all of us in the middle class. Often shielded from the daily struggles of the less fortunate, we can become disconnected from the urgent needs that exist in our society. It is crucial for us to step out of our comfort zones and actively engage with those facing financial hardships. Only then can we truly comprehend the profound impact we can have on their lives.

During our time in Dawkinsville, we were struck by the resilience and unwavering spirit of the individuals living in challenging circumstances. Despite their financial struggles, they embraced each moment with genuine joy and appreciation. It served as a poignant reminder that true happiness does not depend on material possessions but resides in the ability to find contentment amidst adversity.

This experience has deeply touched our hearts and reaffirmed the importance of empathy, compassion, and community engagement. It is our duty as individuals with the means and resources to extend a helping hand to those in need. By actively participating in initiatives such as the roadside soup kitchen, we not only provide physical nourishment but also show solidarity and support to our fellow community members.

We extend our gratitude to the

volunteers who dedicated their time and effort to make this event a success. Their selflessness and commitment played a significant role in brightening the lives of the individuals we served.

As we reflect on this experience, we are inspired to continue our efforts in addressing the pressing needs of our community. We must strive to bridge the gap between the middle class and the less fortunate, fostering a society where everyone is seen, heard, and cared for.

Let us remain united in our pursuit of a more compassionate and inclusive society. Together, we can make a lasting impact and bring hope to those who need it most.

PAARL 44 GOES TO GERMANY

On 9 June 2023, two of Paarl 44’s tablers, namely Jan de Lange (WP Area IRO) and De Wet du Plessis (Youngest Tabler at Paarl), went to Germany to represent WP Area at their AGM in Germany and to talk about Men’s mental welfare.

They met new Tablers and made new friends, with whom they will always walk a path together in the future.

They discussed how we table and learned how they table, though all of us are in table for the same reasons, and that is to make a difference where we can.

Importance of Raiding

Fellowship amongst young men, to better the lives of the less fortunate and to have an impact on our surroundings. Being part of table brings like-minded men to help one another to achieve these morals and values instilled in us by the very aims and objectives we stand by.

Raiding allows us to understand different approaches to practicing these objectives. The border area is held together by 12 fantastic tables each with different perspectives but as one with a common goal.

Queenstown Round Table number 16 joined Gonubie 182 Round Table for their annual hosting of members from the Round Table Border Area. Great discussions on charity events and ways to better their community were had. With raids being done, it allows us to take ideas back to our table and make a difference.

feel-good project

Winter Knights have personally always been an awesome feel-good project to me. It is a good opportunity to reflect on what is important and remember that the pressure we often feel is unnecessary pressure we place on ourselves. Most of the time we don’t need the things we feel pressured to achieve.

This year was again inspirational to us. We have collected clothing from friends, family and even had some corporate sponsors on board this year. Initially, we were going to distribute all our donations locally and also budgeted to purchase some blankets from our charity reserves.

Unexpectedly the heavens opened in the Western Cape and we felt

compelled to reach beyond our area with our donations received locally. The viewpoint is that it does not matter where it goes, as long as it fills a need it should be bound geographically.

On a cold Saturday evening, we hit the streets of PE and donated approximately 30 blankets to the less fortunate. The gratitude from these recipients is beyond what anyone can imagine it to be. And to think it is only an R60 blanket. We spend R60 on a drink at times and to these people, it changes whether they sleep warmer tonight than the previous night. It makes one wonder why we as an association at times struggle to raise funds. Have societies become too consumed

by their worlds to care about the person next to them, or should we change our message and reevaluate how we communicate our message and appeal for donations?

We are in the process of packing and boxing the donated clothing and will ship same to Paarl 44 in the next few days for them to distribute in their community.

Thank you to our community for their donations and we look forward to growing the event again next year.

The Ghost of Owen Frye 3.0

Everything started in 2021 during the pandemic. Travelling was not easy; however, being in South Africa during ARTSA is my priority. As many of you know, this is a fixed AGM in my calendar and this already for the ninth time. So Graham Cornelissen and myself started touring through the country before ARTSA and meeting many tablers and ladies throughout the country: In the Ghost of Owen Frye.

Finally, the world functions as before, so it was easy to go to South Africa again. Everything started by contacting my dear friend Graham Cornelissen. People know him as the convenor of the Ghost Tour and for some other portfolio he holds.

This year I did not spend my usual five to six weeks in South Africa as the World Meeting will happen there in September. So I decided to stay three weeks including ARTSA. Graham and myself made a rough plan and checked where we can go this time.

I landed after the Easter season on 14th April in Johannesburg. I already made a major mistake by telling him I missed Brandy and Coke, so we stopped already with great fellowship and some brandies with many friends in the Gauteng Area. Markets, sightseeing, and meeting with old friends were on the program. I was glad to meet the deputy head of mission from the

Austrian embassy as I am currently installing an artist in residence program in Austria. We are collaborating with the August House in Johannesburg which we were able to visit. Jukskei 217 took good care of me, and I was honoured to be the sergeant at arms during their meeting. This time I tried to behave and not destroy them already at the beginning. We also tried some sport shooting with our friend Ninja Ernest Lamprecht, and I was surprised how good I could aim. During this time, I also took my new drone with me, and we tried to make some amazing footage of Hartbeespoort and some nearby areas.

Time has come, and we started a domestic flight to Cape Town. We actually did some proper work for the RTIWM 2023 and checked some new locations and talked to some suppliers. After our official part, our mission was clear: Wine Tasting. So we took it very seriously and tried discovering many new wine farms and checking some for the upcoming pre-tour. This time we stayed directly in Stellenbosch and discovered the local nightlife. The Co-Convenor for the RTIWM, Skaap,

invited us over to his house. There I had the possibility to prepare a Guinness stew. As a tradition in South Africa, this was done over an open fire with wood.

One highlight during the Western Cape Leg was going to one of the pre-tour locations: The Aquila Game Reserve. For everyone who is going on this tour: Congratulations! It was one of the best game drives I have done in South Africa. You will have the chance to see the Big Five and

many more animals. The area is very protected, so I would recommend you not post the location when you are there to protect the game on the farm.

This time in South Africa, I discovered the beauty of load shedding. You will not have up to eight hours of no electricity per day. You need to plan your day ahead if you want to cook, set your washings, or charge your devices. But this is, unfortunately, a reality all over the country.

Time has come, and we flew back to Johannesburg. After a Mexican night, we drove to this year's ARTSA location: Bushveld. What an opening night it has been. A perfect DJ, with great performances and awesome people. It feels like being home, simultaneously seeing so many old and new friends.

The forums were really interesting as there was motion in RTSA to raise the age up to 45. This motion did not pass during the meeting but led to great discussions. We also had the possibility to meet with the AMI team and discuss certain expansion projects within the region. One of the nicest evenings is, for sure, the area night. Every area is preparing a table with regional delicacies. Congratulations again to Werner and his team as outgoing president and a wonderful year ahead to Louis! For over 22 years, Round Table Austria and the Natal North Coast of South Africa have had the oldest

existing twinning agreement, which is renewed during the ARTSA Gala and the Austrian AGM. Very thankful for this great privilege!

The AGM passed, and as nearly every year, a road trip started. This time from Bushveld to Richards Bay. Thanks to Kevin and Ashley for the great experience! We had a lovely social at the waterfront and made a braai. We had lovely evenings with Boela, Tanya, and many more during these days. I had the joy of discovering golfing for the first time in my life. Luckily we only lost two bags of balls, and the loan was not destroyed that much. It was great spending time with Harm, driving to Eshowe, and visiting Ash and his lovely family.

The last leg was flying back to Johannesburg and sorting my luggage and getting ready for my flight home.

Spending a couple of weeks in a different country is always an experience. It is even better if you are sharing this time with Tablers who became very close friends in the last few years. Going to South Africa is not like going somewhere on vacation; it is like going to your second home.

A huge thanks to Graham as the tour convenor! It was a pleasure, a unique experience, and something I will never forget. The Ghost of Owen Frye Tour is an exclusive tour with one sweat drop and five brandy drops.

Round Table gives us all so many great possibilities. A club founding member told me once: The Round Table Badge is the passport to the world – travel it well.

I promise you: I'll be back!

Yours in international tabling, Marc

It does not matter what career we are pursuing or in what field of work we operate, our contribution is essential for pushing the boundaries of human knowledge and achievement.

Building Strong Families

The role of young men in shaping family dynamics cannot be underestimated. As, fathers and future fathers, we have a great opportunity to influence our children through their upbringing. Our involvement in raising our kids, emotional support, and guidance is of great importance for raising wellrounded and responsible citizens. Positive fatherly role models can help break cycles of dysfunction and create healthier families for generations to come.

Community Engagement

Young men are often at the forefront of community engagement and service. We participate in various charitable and social initiatives, working to make our communities safer, cleaner, and to assist where help is mostly needed. Our enthusiasm and passion as young men

and members of Round Table inspire others to get involved and contribute to the upliftment of the communities, they operate in.

Role Models for Peers

We as young men who demonstrate resilience, determination, and integrity serve as role models for our peers, in our general lives, work environment as well as Tablers trough mentoring young and upcoming Tablers. By setting high standards for ourselves and our behaviour, we encourage others to strive for excellence. Overcoming Depression and RedeFining Myself breaking the ice

On that chilling 24th of March, I stood alone atop Bowkers Kop in Queenstown, my heart racing, my grip tight around the cold metal of a 9mm pistol. The abyss of despair beckoned, but in that crucial moment, a flicker of realization pierced through the darkness – there was more to my life, and it was my daughter who held the key to my survival.

I'm Dylan Love, the former chairman of Queenstown 16, and my story might not be the most extraordinary, but the fact that I'm here today, sharing it, fills me with an undeniable sense of victory. Life's relentless challenges had led me down the treacherous path of depression, a path that countless men in our society tread silently, weighed down by shame and a misplaced sense of weakness. I became a master of bottling up emotions, burying them deeper as the darkness grew.

But it wasn't until the unwavering support of my fellow tablers and the unwavering love of my daughter broke through the barriers I'd built. They became my lifelines, guiding me towards the path of healing. It was this journey that eventually led me to Underberg,

to a place of recovery called River View Manor. I realized that to conquer depression, I needed to confront and comprehend every facet of this insidious adversary.

One of the gravest misconceptions we men often hold is that vulnerability is a mark of weakness. My own experience shattered that fallacy. Sharing my emotions and story didn't lead to disdain; it led to respect and empathy from unexpected quarters. It was a humbling revelation that dismantled the walls of isolation I'd constructed around myself.

In a world where societal norms have conditioned men to suppress their feelings, my journey underscores the transformative power of communication. Breaking free from the chains of stigma requires a collective effort, and I've come to understand the importance of authentic conversation. My story is a testament to the strength that lies in opening up, forging connections that defy society's expectations.

My odyssey is far from over, but the unbreakable bond with my daughter

and the wisdom I've garnered along the way fuel my determination. The inception of the ICE Bath Challenge emerged as my clarion call – a way to amplify awareness and embolden men to confront discomfort and vulnerability head-on. Beyond the physical benefits, the icy plunge serves as a crucible for mental resilience, a potent weapon in the battle against depression. With unwavering resolve, I extend this challenge to men everywhere, especially during the month of June – a challenge to dive into the frigid waters, both literally and metaphorically, and to reach out for help.

My story is a testament to the strength that lies within vulnerability, the power of connection, and the relentless pursuit of hope. As I stand atop Bowkers Kop once more, no longer staring down the barrel of despair, my hand reaches out to those treading a similar path. From the depths of my struggle, I found purpose, and through shared experiences, I strive to illuminate the way for others on their journey from darkness to dawn.

In 2018 I found myself facing a series of life events, loss of a relationship and home I was sleeping rough in my car homeless but working. I woke up one morning to bailiffs clamping my vehicle forcing myself onto the streets, approx 3 weeks later I lost my job, facing an ever growing uphill struggle I found myself homeless facing no access to my children and thinking there was no way out. Thinking that the whole world was against me, a failure to society, to my children and with no purpose I found myself on the wrong side of a railway bridge waiting for a train to ultimately die to suicide.

However, a random tabler passing by stopped, and took time to talk to me. Reminding me of life's ups and downs and that anything is able to be overcome with help. I was invited for food and drink and supported back onto my feet, I managed to get sheltered accommodation, and professional support through CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably) they gave me help and advice and slowly I got back on my feet. Got another job, eventually looking towards the light I found that table was exactly what I needed. I got more involved eventually becoming a member of RT Barry 516.

Soon devoting my evenings to table, and the Covid pandemic I was getting great pride out of helping others. Delivering medical goods and foods to them free of charge.

I soon found myself in an apartment just about surviving. Hardly any furniture, a mattress on the floor for myself, a blow up materess for my daughter and only a settee and TV in the living room. Approaching Christmas, My Round Table was in full swing with our nightly santa Sleigh collections great joy on my face watching everyone enjoy our festive cheer.

Round Table had established that my Christmas joy was short lived. For two months I barely got by. Moving into my apartment made me chose between Christmas items for others including my daughter or furniture for my place. Barry RT then went out of their way and delivered me a table and chairs to eat meals on, a bed and duvet for my daughter to sleep on, blings and curtains

for each window of my house, and most touching, the overwhelming abundance of Christmas presents for my daughter.

This was so touching for myself. I had always given everything I had to others but never asked for help.

Further help and councilling with CALM and I was proud of who I was. Who I was becoming, and who I wanted to be in the future. Nothing was gonna stop me enjoying life!!

I attended several functions nationally and instantly fell in love with national tabling.

Attended my first overseas visit to the Netherlands the comeraderie and instant friendships getting greater. Back home attending my second national event I met a ladies circle member. She took my eye and after the weekend I instantly knew she was the one.

Another year of very active tabling both myself and Harriet were very active with national and international activities

and I find myself living with Harriet, changed career, moved table joining RT Lichfield 250 and thoroughly thriving in everything I do.

We made it to Cape Town. The stage set, I knew exactly what was coming, an amazing week with friends, and an extra special climb up table mountain.

Harriet unaware, I proposed to the woman I love on (round) Table mountain. She said yes. My return to life was a huge struggle. Taking over 5 years. But here I am. Loving life. Living round table, still breathing and proud of who i was and who I have become. Roundtable has become my life. Devoted to helping others around me.

Don't camo yourself. Be proud of who you are. Help is always available and table has always got your back. Charity starts at home. Look after those around you.

"Don't Camo Yourself"

"it's

a conversation starter"

In a world where expectations and norms often dictate how men should behave, addressing male mental health issues remains a pressing concern. The journey to shed light on the struggles faced by "ordinary" men has taken an inspiring turn with the emergence of the "Don't Camo Yourself" campaign by Round Table Southern Africa. This initiative seeks to create a space for men to express themselves, support one another, and break free from societal pressures that often lead to silence and isolation.

Recognizing the Overlooked Challenges

Male mental health has long been overlooked due to societal norms that discourage emotional expression. Men are often expected to exhibit strength, resilience, and emotional stoicism, which can lead to suppressed feelings and a lack of meaningful conversations about their mental well-being. The "Don't Camo Yourself" campaign acknowledges the unique challenges faced by men, offering them an avenue to share their struggles openly.

A CamoufLage for a Cause

The campaign takes its name from the phrase "Don't Camo Yourself," a powerful reminder that hiding one's emotions and struggles only perpetuates the cycle of silence. The idea was born out of discussions among "Tablers," a group of individuals who recognized the urgency of addressing male mental health issues. Inspired by an Australian Male Mental Health initiative that used the phrase "it's a conversation starter," the campaign adopted its own version that resonated with the South African context.

In a country known for its close connection to nature, the concept of camouflage took on a new meaning. The campaign chose to use camo patterns, traditionally used to blend in with surroundings, but with a twist - the camo was in lumo colors, designed to stand out. The lumo camo jacket, emblazoned with the slogan "Don't Camo Yourself," became a symbol of the movement, promoting open conversations and solidarity among men.

Ripple Effects of Support

What started as a small initiative gained rapid traction, reflecting the pressing need for a platform to discuss male mental health issues. The Lumo Camo Jackets became more than just clothing; they became a visual representation of solidarity and understanding. The campaign's message began to spread, sparking conversations that might otherwise have remained unspoken. Reports indicate that the movement has already had a significant impact. Lives have been saved due to the awareness raised and conversations sparked by wearing the lumo camo clothing. The Lumo Camo Jackets, Shirts, and even a Speedo Edition in Pink have garnered support from Round Table members, families, and contacts. Notable figures within the Round Table Southern African community, including Past RTSA President Werner Swanepoel, have embraced the initiative, showing that support and open conversations can come from influential quarters.

Continuing the Movement for Change

As the campaign evolves, its influence continues to grow. Past and current presidents of Round Table Southern Africa have embraced the cause, donning

Lumo Camo Speedos to encourage open conversations about mental health. The initiative strives to break down barriers, normalize discussions about male mental health, and challenge the notion that vulnerability is a sign of weakness. In the face of ongoing challenges, the "Don't Camo Yourself" campaign remains dedicated to evolving and expanding its impact. Under the leadership of Round Table Southern Africa’s President Louis Radly, the initiative continues to grow, engaging partners who share the vision of creating a supportive environment for men's mental health. The ultimate goal is to create a movement that extends beyond the current generation of Round Table members, creating lasting change and breaking the cycle of silence.

In conclusion, the "Don't Camo Yourself" campaign is an inspiring example of men coming together to redefine masculinity, break the chains of silence, and support each other in times of need. By embracing lumo camo clothing as a symbol of unity, the campaign shows that men can find strength in vulnerability and create a community where conversations about mental health are valued and encouraged. As we move forward, let us remember that each Lumo Camo Jacket worn represents a life touched, a conversation started, and a step towards a more supportive and compassionate society.

Early morning, the sun had not yet opened its arms to hug the world, I was however listening to the cries of baby birds in the bold darkness. I had so many expectations running through my head of what can happen at winter con 2023. when I received the first “winter con 2023 boys” on our admin group, I put my excitement into 1st gear and didn’t stop to look back

We all hyped each other and so the journey started. It was a race to Antonie’s house and a laugh here and a giggle there, we came together as one, pondering on the weekend that lies in front of us. The road trip to Schoemansdale was a cluster of emotions, my mind was all over the place, as I’m going to spend the weekend with my boys. Not to mention my mind was spinning from the “spin the wheel and drink” game we played. The road was long and lonely, if you were to gaze in to the distance, you’d see nothing but a waste land of bush and rock, but it’s not what you get to see in the bushveld, it’s what you get the hear, smell, taste, and feel. we arrived at the venue, tripping over our lazy thoughts and nearly falling flat on our faces, the laughing was priceless.

Our super hero pace who though he could out party everyone, soon became one with his bed and myself had the opportunity to look at a band of brothers and feel safe and sound. Knowing very well that my footsteps go un-heard. I remember at a point in time, my eyes had cement bags strapped to them, and my voice had been shredded by a cheese grater. It was time for me to say goodnight

Finding my way back to my bed is but a mystery on its own. Waking up was hard but I knew I had to put my performance shoes on and sit in the meeting. My life was great at that time, but when the sergeant announced his gut-wrenching poison, I feared for my life. Raw liver on a marie biscuit really touched my soul. I thought I was in a battle with Muhammed Ali, like writing a math exam, I broke a sweat, but in the end, I won. the meeting went well, and after some business, it was back to fellowship, I made a few new friends and made a few new memories. I want to thank everyone for opening their hearts to me, this is what I call a dream come true. I always say, we ate like kings, drank like pirates and sang like wolves.

The ride back home was long and unforgiving, tired and restless we listened to old music, which comforted the sore heads. It wasn’t until I saw the sun ignited the tips of my friends hair, forming a silhouette from his head (AKA gandoff the ginger) that I could ponder on the memories that I made with everyone… not only did I get to see, I got to feel, taste and hear what a picture perfect winter con looks like.

Winter Knights 2023 Distribution

In a world where kindness and compassion often go unnoticed, it's important to take a step forward and make a difference. Recently, I had the privilege of contributing to a cause that is close to my heart through a donation. This experience has not only touched the lives of those in need but has also left an indelible mark on my own soul.

The decision to make the donation stemmed from a deep-rooted desire to give back to the community and support a cause that resonates with my values. Understanding the impact even a small contribution can have, I embarked on a mission to make a positive and impactful change in the lives of others.

Making the donation to Sophia’s soup kitchen was a simple yet empowering process. Sophia is a mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. A woman living in the informal settlements of the capital city of Windhoek, Otjomuise, 8

De Laan, whom so selflessly one day decided that with the little she has, she would start a soup kitchen and start feeding the less fortunate kids in her area. Sophia feeds about 400-500 kids every weekend.

Every act of generosity has the power to create a ripple effect, and with this donation through the Winter Knights project, it was no exception. Through the collective efforts of numerous donors, we were able to provide essential resources and support to those in need.

Witnessing the difference, the donation made has been an immensely fulfilling and humbling experience. It reminded me of the significance of coming together as a community to uplift others. The act of giving not only benefits those in need but also instills a sense of purpose and gratitude within oneself.

While this donation has made a difference, it is essential to inspire

others to join in this noble cause. By sharing my experience, I hope to encourage individuals from all walks of life to contribute in any way they can. Together, we can create a powerful wave of positive change and foster a more compassionate world. Making a charity donation is more than just a financial transaction; it is a heartfelt gesture that has the potential to transform lives. This recent contribution to a worthy cause has reaffirmed my belief that small acts of kindness can lead to significant outcomes. I urge everyone to explore the possibilities and embrace the joy of giving, for it is through selfless acts that we truly find our purpose and make the world a better place.

67minutes of Kindness

On 18th of July 2023 Wel213 celebrated Mandela Day with our own 67 minutes of kindness shown. We incorporated our families and took the time to make soup from what we had in our collective food cupboards. A Special thanks to Scooby for donating enough butternut to feed 150 people.

Rene and his Family at the helm of the Mandela Day distributions ensured that the pots started cooking and enticed the Ramothibe house hold to do the same.

Wel213 started of in Khomasdal stadium where homeless was afforded the opportunity pitch tents handed out during Covid period and since then made it their home. We distributed 80 sets of soup and bread. Sets being a mince soup, a butternut soup and bread.

With more left we drove to Katutura and distributed the remainder of the food also at a allocated homeless centre. Wel213 ended up distributing another 40 sets of soup. With our 67 minutes up, we had a quick coccus on Winter Knights

distributions before we bit farewell to Jason who still had to drive out of town and we all make our way home.

67 minutes of distributions just showing kindness with our families not just tablers is an experience we appreciate every year, but imagine how this world could be if all of us do this every day.

Till the next time we commemorate the live of a Legend.

At 14:00 on a mild Friday in mid-July the attendees met up at Kappsfarm Padstal to hit the road to the farm where we’d be hunting for the weekend.

It was particularly great to have so many 41ers be in attendance who brought their sons. They will hopefully become Tablers in the future when they are of age and ready to take over the legacy. gunsmith afficionados amongst us unpacked their rifles and did some target practice on the shooting range just before sunset. Once all of them were satisfied with the accuracy and respective scope settings, we made our way back to the farmhouse. Upon our arrival we bore witness to the birth of a new calf which, something that many hadn’t seen before.

We unpacked and had a pleasant evening with chilled beverages and a proper Suidwes braai. Without exception everyone was indulging in the fellowship and it proved to be a good night.

Early on the Saturday morning our tribe was split into two troops as all wouldn’t fit onto a single bakkie. The vehicles drove their separate ways and it wasn’t long until Neville’s oldest son, James, aimed his rifle on a buck in a troop of oryx. Locked in he pulled the trigger and the first of two antelopes for the day was acquired.

Not too long thereafter we were notified that our pipeliner Décee who was on the

other bakkie has successfully hunted a Hartebeest.

Before the sun got too hot during midday, we offloaded the antelopes for slaughtering and enjoyed some boere rolls and fresh liver for lunch. In the afternoon we made another attempt at hunting but remained unsuccessful. Darn it!

A day in the sun can become tiresome so we opted to light up a fire and braai some meat and discuss our adventures we had just embossed in our memories. In good spirits we had music playing and bonded to become even closer. This is what makes Round Table so special. The fellowship forges bonds stronger than steel.

Thank you to all who attended and in particular to 41er Philip who made all the arrangements and in doing so guaranteed the success of yet another great fellowship weekend.

The Great Buffalo Tour

What do you get when you put a group of Belgians, Bulgarians, Danes, Brits, Germans, throw in a Icelander, a couple of Italians, a nut from the Netherlands, a Norwegian and 2 Swiss gentleman together? Well, when you throw them on a bus for 6 days on an epic journey through the Southern Cape, I can tell you it’s no joke, its an adventure of a lifetime!

You see, this is the amazing privilege that Tablers enjoy, adventures and journeys that would be highly unlikely in any normal person’s life. We truly have great friends right across the globe that we get to meet for the first time. And that is exactly what happened on this pre-tour for the RTI World Meeting 2023 in Cape Town.

On the 1st of September, a group of almost 45 people, or was it 47, might have been 43 no that I think of it… Well, let’s just say a large group of mostly strangers from 11 countries hopped on a bus (filled with enough cold one’s to stock a medium sized pub) from Hotel Sky in Cape Town, way later than scheduled and set off to Arniston. Thanks to the aforementioned liquid courage, by the time we reached our first stop, most of the borders were abolished and strangers started to become familiar travel companions.

In the following days the names started to stick, the familiars started to become friendlies and through the evening parties, daily excursions from game drives, bush walks, chopper flights and some of the best food you’ll ever get to eat, the friendlies became lifelong friends. There might even be some love in the air for 2 of them, and I’m not referring to Niel and myself who shared hotel rooms for 7 evenings and likely got to know each other almost as good as our respective life partners.

I can tell you this, if you ever get even the slightest opportunity to travel internationally, or locally with internationals in this case, grab it. Grab it with both hands. It was an experience of a lifetime and memories that will last me ‘till the day when I can annoy my grandkids with it on repeat. We laughed, we screamed, we drank, we danced, we sang, we ate, we learned, we had deep conversations and we formed strong bonds. And the only time we were close to tears was the day we said good bye (for now).

I salute you Great Buffalo Tour travelers, I had the time of my life.

Eat. Sleep. Table. Repeat.

RTIWM 2023 Aquila pre-tour

What an amazing honour it has been to had the privilege of hosting one of the official RTIWM 2023 pre-tours. The pretour was scheduled to run from the 3rd of September till the 6th of September with 50 International guests attending. They ranged from Tablers to Circlers to 41ers and it was an amazing group.

Some of us that decided to hit Cape Town a bit earlier met up for some random trips before the tour started just so that we can get to know each other. On the official kick-off we all headed to V&A for a quick lunch, pirate boat ride and then supper.

One of the highlights must have been the Jolly Roger(Pirate ship), and that is also where we found out who has found their sea legs and who hasn’t.

On Monday we headed off to Aquila game reserve to see how many of the big 5 we can spot on the game drives. For the more adventurous in the group there were also horseback safaris as well quad biking safaris and everyone had a blast.

We saw lions, elephants, giraffes and even monkeys that decided they wanted to join us and took possession of our platters. On the way back on the 6th

we had a quick stop at Nuy winery just outside of Worcester for some wine tasting and then it was back to the hotel, just in time for opening.

This was a truly memorable experience and I want to thank everyone that made it possible.

Attending the Boksburg 17 70th birthday dinner was an unforgettable experience, marked by camaraderie, international connections, and the promise of adventure. The event, hosted at the welcoming abode of Egbert, a venerable Potch 47 member, left an indelible mark on all who were fortunate enough to be there.

Egbert, a real interesting character, regaled us with captivating stories that spanned decades, painting a vivid picture of the club’s rich history. It was evident that this gathering was more than just a birthday celebration; it was a testament to the enduring bonds forged through shared passions within Round Table.

However, what made this evening truly exceptional was the opportunity to meet individuals from far-flung corners of the globe, including Holland and Sweden. These internationals brought an exciting global perspective to the occasion, sparking conversations that transcended language barriers and cultural differences.

Our primary mission that evening was to connect with three Swedish gentlemen, part of our team for an epic journey down to the 2023 world meeting in Cape Town. After reveling in the festivities of the 70th anniversary, we returned to Egbert’s place, where time seemed to stand still. We shared stories, laughter, and perhaps a few drinks, staying awake until the early hours of 6 am.

As the first light of dawn broke, we gathered the Swedish adventurers and broke the exciting news to them. Our Pre-Pre tour was about to begin, with Klerksdorp as our next destination. The sense of anticipation and camaraderie in the air was palpable, foreshadowing the epic journey that awaited us. The Boksburg 17 70th birthday dinner had not only celebrated history but had set the stage for an extraordinary adventure that would unite us across borders and cultures, proving that the spirit of brotherhood knows no bounds in the world of Round Table.

Post 70th Anniversary spur of the moment bundu bash

The festivities didn't end with the anniversary dinner. A Post 70th Anniversary spur of the moment tour was organized, adding even more excitement to the celebrations. The following day Four international guests embarked with us on a spontaneous adventure to Thabazimbi, including Demetiros "Jimmy" Frokalis from Round Table Bulawayo - Zimbabwe, Kevin Applegreen, Chairman of Round table Bulawayo - Zimbabwe, Jule Gosschalk - CEE Regional Chairman from The Netherlands, and Aleksander "The Thunder" Ottokar - National IRO from Estonia, further strengthening the bonds of friendship and camaraderie and where lasting memories were made.

The Road to the game farm included a

gravel Road that was nearly 100km long was something new to our European internationals, to the Zimbabwean’s and our neighbor’s it was as per usual. Jule Gosschalk shot his first Kudu Bull and caped it himself. He also shot a Warthog and I shot a Small “Sample” Rooibokkie. We had an awesome time Braaiing venison, sitting around the bushveld TV exchanging stories untill the early morning hours.

A massive thank you to Janu Rossouw, Round Table Boksburg 17 Guest at the time and now Pipeliner who arranged the hunting trip. The road back was not as smooth as we would have liked, Janu experienced 2 punctured tires on the way back and he was carrying important items such as Mister Jule Gosschalk from the

Netherlands who had to attend an RTI dinner that evening… Needless to say he arrived late, in style and smelling of fresh Kudu and Bushveld.

Additionally, the "Hard Way Down" tour, organized in collaboration with Klerkosana 45 and Potch 47, is where the adventure continued for a diverse group of international guests, featuring David Nilsson, Leo Nilsson and Patrick Hellgren Skagh from RT Sweden as well as Alex from Seychelles..

We all met up in Cape Town for the RTI world meeting where the escapades continue in my next article….

Finding a Match for Maddy Impala 157

In the world of humanitarian efforts and medical miracles, the story of Maddy, a young girl diagnosed with leukaemia at the tender age of three, shines as a beacon of hope and community resilience. What began as a humble project initiated by the Tablers of Impala 157 has evolved into a remarkable journey to save not only Maddy but also many others facing similar health challenges. This heart-warming story has taken root across the BMG Tri area conference, driven by the ordinary people doing extraordinary things, and has grown to encompass countless communities.

Maddy's Journey Begins

Maddy's life took an unexpected turn when she was diagnosed with leukaemia at the age of three. Her family was faced with a daunting and emotionally draining journey, as they searched for a bone marrow match that could potentially save her life. This search led to the birth of a project, a movement of hope, and a community's unwavering commitment to find a match for Maddy.

Impala 157 Steps In

The Tablers of Impala 157, touched by Maddy's story, pledged their support and samples to the cause. In an extraordinary display of unity and determination, they set out to find a compatible bone marrow donor for Maddy. This gesture of kindness

soon extended to the BMG Tri area conference, where Vos Botha stepped forward to champion the cause.

The BMG Tri Area Conference's Role

Driven by a desire to make a difference and a shared commitment to help Maddy, the BMG Tri area conference played a pivotal role in expanding the donor register. An additional 17 samples were added to the registry, demonstrating the power of collaboration and collecWtive compassion.

A Wider Commitment

As news of Maddy's struggle and the mission to find a bone marrow match spread, communities from various regions and backgrounds united in their commitment to making a difference. The call to action was heeded by many, resulting in the establishment of numerous initiatives aimed at growing the donor register.

STNOFS, Northern Cape and Free State Tri Areas Join the Cause

The "Vat n Bietjie Potch" TRI Area as a collective have added an astonishing 28 samples to the donor register. This expansion signifies the growing sense of

responsibility and shared determination to help not just Maddy but many others in similar predicaments.

A Movement of Hope

Maddy's journey to find a bone marrow match has become a movement of hope, compassion, and unity. It illustrates the immense power of communities coming together to support those in need. The Tablers of Impala 157, the BMG Tri area conference, and countless other communities across regions have shown that no challenge is insurmountable when we stand together.

In the search for a match for Maddy, we have not only brought people together but have also created an enduring legacy of kindness and support for those battling life-threatening illnesses. This journey is a testament to the goodness that resides within us all and the extraordinary things that can be achieved when we work collectively towards a common goal.

What does Table mean to you?

My experience so far has been nothing short of amazing. I remember a few months ago, when I was invited to my first Table meeting as a guest. I didn't know what to expect. I was nervous and was going through a particularly rough patch, but the Tablers at number 1 welcomed me with open arms.

One of the first things I noticed was the strong sense of camaraderie and solidarity amongst the Tablers; it's something that I had never witnessed or experienced before. Among the diverse group of individuals, I found that the relationships formed here were similar to those of a true brotherhood. The atmosphere fosters unwavering support, respect, and a shared commitment to personal and collective growth. I have witnessed people from different walks of life come together as brothers, forming connections that transcend superficial differences.

As I reflect on my journey within this community, I'm reminded that it's more than just a group—it's a family. The bonds formed extend beyond our meetings and events. They are a support system for one another, celebrating each other's achievements and offering a helping hand during challenging times. The sense of belonging and unity within this brotherhood is truly unparalleled. In my time here, I've learned that it's not only about the topics we discuss or the ideas we share but the genuine connections we build. This experience has left an indelible mark on my life, reinforcing the belief that true brotherhood transcends the boundaries of superficiality and that the value of shared commitment is immeasurable. I'm excited to continue this journey with my newfound brothers and to further explore the depths of friendship and support that "The Round Table" offers.

Proud

I was introduced to Round Table at the Winter Knights event held in East London, where donating of clothing and blankets granted free entry. I was interested to discover what Round Table stood for, with the help of Jethro Penny and Toby Nzuza I was able to understand what it took to be Tabler and what it all stood for by attending a couple of the meetings. I have had the chance to experience the 41er AGM (Tafel net so Bietjie) and soon after got bumped up from Guest to Pipeliner, before attending my First mid-year function at Hole in the wall with my wife by my side. I am proud to say that I have found my brothers at East London Round Table Number 1 and look forward to contributing to the best of my ability and seeing our Table Grow.

Round table Boksburg 17 Area Museum

The motion to become the area museum has been voted in and Boksburg 17 is the area museum, we have been planning and working hard in cleaning up the clubhouse and store room to make space for the museum, planning the outlay and putting systems in place.

Sifting through the storeroom, history and all the gathered goods in our clubhouse from over the past 30 years has been like a treasure hunt finding stories that are like gems. Preserving the history of our organization is vital, the evolution of Round table is most interesting - constant adoption, adaptations and improvements is what has created Round table we know today.

Having a clubhouse a table can call home is something unique in Round Table South Africa, this is evident if you witness an international Tabler visit the clubhouse. A clubhouse plays a major role in creating new memories and preserving our history. We can’t wait to see you at a Round Table Boksburg 17 business meetings and show you what were up too.

Induction dinner from the chair, himself Walvis Bay 36

In late 2022, RT36 though it a good idea that I should be the chairman for 2023. Truth be told, they actually wanted Joppie, but I manage to wrangle myself into the position.

Not sure how Bertus got the gig for Swakop, but I am sure he is the best man for the job.

As you all know, 2023 it was decided that we should do the combined induction dinner thing. Leaving everyone with the fear of how long it was going to take. Because these events usually take 4-5 hours per induction table.

We were all pleasantly surprised to see that doing the induction dinner for two table takes exactly the same time if not less time than doing a induction dinner for one table.

Suffice to say, it was a success, and I believe that all induction dinners will follow suit.

People arrive, drinks were drank, speeches were made, food was eaten, jokes were made, drinks were drank, Chairman were inducted, councils were announced, drinks were drank, 41’rs were announced and thanks were given.

After the proceedings it was decided that the after party will be held at the WB36 clubhouse. Further drinks were drank and everyone left quite late or should I say quite early.

Thank you to everyone that attended.

BMG 2023 - Northridge 117

It was that time of the year again, BMG time!!

This year the Tri-area conference was hosted in Mpumalanga province by WhiteRiver 64.

I was unfortunately going to be the only member from my table that will be present for this fun awesome event due to our other members being busy with a table project which is our annual “Kids to the Sea” project. Some of our members were also overseas in Denmark four our numbers tour so we as Northridge 117 were spread quite thin during the month BMG took place.

I decided to invite our Northridge 117 guests along with me and one ended up going with which made this all the more fun as you can image. What an awesome event this is to take a guest on I must say. To make this an even more fun road trip, I invited Midrand 253 to drive with us as well. The more the marrier ey.

Now we were set, me, our Northridge 117 guest and the Chairman of Midrand 253.

A whole week before the event took place, we started planning where we would sleep and who would bring what and in the end it all came together perfectly.

We ended up making arrangements to sleep at our Northridge 117 guest’s cousin during our time at BMG. Left around 4pm on Friday the 22nd and made our way to Nelspruit. During our way there we made lots of fun random pitstops, because why not?

Early on Saturday we had a leka Breakfast at Wimpy and off we were to BMG. The account meetings were great in so many ways. We were blessed to have Louis Radley association president there along with lots of other awesome folks. Great informative talks as well as some wise words of wisdom were given. One of the ones that stood out for me personally was something Louis Radley said, “while you’re in table, especially if your higher up such as “Area” or higher, inspire others”. It comes down to the fact that when your higher up, you have the ability to inspire others and motivate them. While your able to do it, do it. It doesn’t last forever though so you so do it while your able to. Some gents have the opportunity to do this more than once in their time with Table, others only once if they are lucky. Either way, you should make it count when it happens. Inspire those around you.

The individual area meetings were also a blast with lots of surprises. People running into meetings in their underwear is just one of many that comes to mind. To many to mention

The before and after “kuier” sessions always some of the best fellowship you’ll encounter anywhere. As you can imagine, coins were obviously dropped more than once. Some accidently, others maybe not so accidently. Either way, I’ll tell you one thing, dropping a coin at this BMG was a sight to behold. I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many tablers rush to drop a coin and to respond in this manner. It looked like a huge Rugby tackle taking place with everyone storming to drop coins. Was really amazing to see and just really added to the spirit of the event and to the spirit of tabling in general.

The meetings were exceptionally well held, as smooth as can be and ended earlier than we expected. This left us with way more time to mingle and kuier.

To my brothers in Mpumalanga, WhiteRiver 64 job well done with hosting the 2023 BMG, it was amazing and definitely one for the books. Hope to see most of you at next year’s BMG in 2024

Round Table Queenstown 16

Saturday afternoon I had the privilege of meeting our 16 yaps with an old friend Nico McNamara. Ariving at the airport, it was a quiet welcome with lots of there nerves. 8 girls went with the bus to their destination to get cleaned up. The 7 boys (one chap missed his flight) were divided between me and an Algoa 108 41er. Well as you can imagine I am an energy bunny, and I was not going be in a depressing atmosphere, so I took them to RHBS were I got hold of Craig Falconer our pipeliner to give them a tour of the Brewery followed by some beers. Nonetheless they were very quickly introduced to our Buffalo members.

After a couple of refreshments, we took them on a small tour and showed them all the monuments of our 108 logos. Upon arrival at the 108-club house, we were warmly greeted by the Algoa 108 members. We had some nice Chicken schnitzel and chips for supper and then started a beer pong tournament which didn’t gain much interest, but when the big sound system started vibrating the floor we heard all types of music, Willie to the rescue with some golden oldies we had the dance floor vibrating like a vibrator with new Duracell batteries.

Yap tour by Algoa 108

At 12 o clock the yaps ‘s leash got cut short and the hosting parties’ had to take their guests back home.

For my four chaps the journey to Colchester was clearly not long enough as when we got home, they had beers in their bags and Beer pong was all they could think of. I gave them some Boegoe Berg Brandewyn which later had them all passed out. Sunday morning, we prepared bacon and egg buns to help sort out the hangovers and off to Addo Adrenaline they went. So much for just dropping them off we ended up shuttling the tour on the dirt road as the bus could not get there. The Jap’s did some swinging, superman zip lines and we thought their adrenaline was bound to run out, or so we hoped. Next stop was the cheetah farm and finally I could go home. Well as I stopped home, I had to go back to Adrenaline Addo to find cell phones. It was inevitable that I was not going to leave the Yaps, so all out it was. The following day they went to Addo Elephant Park the followed by a boat cruse down the river.

I was late for the boat Cruze, so they turned around to collect me, what an evening spent with a friend from 142

Schalk by my side entertaining the youngsters. I spent three days with them, entertaining them, nursing some of them when they had too much to drink, heart to heart chats with them and tabling stories. This is a time I will never forget. After all they say, saying goodbye is the hardest thing to do. Well, the last night with them was like saying goodbye to close friends. With a sore throat from wanting to cry as some of them gave us gifts of gratitude, I quickly thought of an idea. Milking cows at 4 AM was sure to make a great memory, and some said, “yes we would love to come”. Nonetheless the following morning they phoned me asking why I’m late. After milking with them SA style by hand they went for some target shooting. Some for the 1st time and some not.

The time had come again for the final goodbye with them wanting me to join their whole trip. It was tempting if I had more leave available. Thank you all from 10Great that assisted in making an unforgettable trip for these YAPS THAT I KNOW THEY WONT FORGET.

Yours in table

Kids to the Sea 40th Anniversary

Wow, what a special project. For me as a 41`er this year with being an honorary member and the 40th anniversary of this project, it was a special one for me. Round Table Southern Africa is truly a special organization. With 6 tables involved with the project, Northridge 117, Harrismith 140, Margate 46, Durban 2, Umhlanga 155 and Pietermaritzburg 12.

This year we took all the kids in St Laurence`s Children`s Haven and left on the Saturday morning. When we arrived at Harrismith 140 the tablers were welcoming us with open arms. The kids thoroughly enjoyed staying on the farm and all the fun activities and awesome food that was prepared for them. Sunday morning, we left for Margate 46. The Kids had the Most Amazing Time with Round Table Margate 46. As they do every year, (Beach days, Croc Farm, San Lameer, Wild Waves) they always go above and beyond for all the Children at St Laurence's Children's Haven. This Year they organized our stay at the

beautiful Brackenmoor Estate. This place had everything from comfortable beds, air-conditioned rooms, amazing views and even a swimming pool. As tradition goes with Margate 46, Santa Clause came and surprised the children with a special gift handpicked for each individual child.

We left Friday morning to meet up with Umhlanga 155 and Durban 2 at Ushaka Marine World where the kids were spoiled with dolphin show, seal show and the aquarium. An amazing lunch as well. After this spoil we left for Pietermaritzburg 12 where we had an amazing night’s rest at Thorn Tree Lodge after a long day of travelling. These guys had all kinds of goodies planned for the kids, from jumping castles and amazing food. Each individual Child at St Laurence's Children's Haven was given a goodie bag hamper with a LED torch and they also got to choose a pair of designer shoes which the kids went absolutely bonkers for.

Thank you to everyone that was

involved with KTTS 2023. One of the Key Factors when doing a Joint Project like this with so many other Tablers and Tables is The Fellowship. It’s a Chance for us to Reconnect and Interact with Our Buddies from Far Away. A Chance to Shake Hands and Swop a Pin or a Banner. This Year Being Our 40th Year Anniversary, we wanted to do something Extra Special and have our Own Custom Banner and Pin to Hand to Each Table for all the hard work and Effort they put into these projects. Thank you for making this year super special, the kids have thoroughly enjoyed themselves and we look forward to doing this again with you next year for #kidstothesea2024. #kidstothesea2023 #charity #KTTS #wolfpack #roundtable #northridge117 #howling

Sadie Moolman’First birthday

Celebrating Sadie Moolman’s first birthday was a heartwarming occasion that brought our Matlosane 45 family even closer. Sadie, who is Jacques Moolman’s daughter, holds a special place in our hearts as the newest member of our Round Table tribe. It was a day filled with joy and togetherness as we came together to mark this significant milestone in her young life.

The love and support from our Matlosane 45 family during Sadie’s birthday celebration were truly touching. It was heartening to see our fellow tablers come together to celebrate not only a fellow member’s child but also the newest addition to our Round Table family.

As tablers, we often work side by side on various projects and initiatives, but moments like these remind us that our bond extends beyond our official meetings and activities. We are a community that cares deeply for one another, and we take pride in supporting our fellow tablers in their personal lives as well.

Witnessing the laughter, smiles, and shared moments during Sadie’s first birthday celebration gave me a profound sense of belonging. It reinforced the idea that Matlosane 45 is not just an organization; it’s a close-knit family that stands together through all of life’s joys and challenges.

Happy first birthday, Sadie! Your presence has added an extra layer of warmth and togetherness to our Matlosane 45 family. We look forward to many more celebrations and shared moments with you as you continue to grow and thrive in our Round Table community. YIT

The Power of the Rondel

Impala 157 had the privilege to host our Dutch Brothers and sisters from Etten Leur 157. After months of planning and preparation it was time for the Dutch to arrive. Vos Botha and Dario Cremona Left Polokwane to pick the group up at the Airport. Claas from Pretoria 201 surprised us and formed part of the welcoming party.

After the big welcome we all jumped into Minnie busses and headed to Elements Private Golf Estate where the group was going to spend the next couple of days. The gees were high in the bus and ample refreshments was supplied to ensure Gees was kept high.

We arrived at Elements at @ 2 in the morning. The group was welcomed by David Cawood and Johann Prinsloo. The accommodation was next level. And all was showed to their rooms. This is when the festivities started. Dario Cremona (Chairman) welcomed the group officially and the Aims and objectives was read by Vos Botha. Brany was flowing and festivities was on a high level.

There were two shirts for the tour, the yellow shirt for the “last man standing” and then the pink shirt for the “first man falling” the buffalo rule was introduced and it took some time to get used to. Every so often one would hear the load scream “Buffaloooo”

Most of the group went trough the night and saw their first African sun rise of the bushveld. It must be mentioned that the pink shirt went to Thom and the yellow shirt for the last man standing was awarded to Morris. The next two days was spent in the African Bush, with game drives, lounging around the pool, a lot of meat, BRAAI, Potjie kos, Bandewyn and fantastic fellowship. Arguably one of the highlights of the trip was the interaction with Elephant.

INKUNDLA | NOV 2023 |100

The Power of the Rondel

For the last night salad was served with ample braai meat, it was strange to see most of our Dutch Brothers and sisters opted for the Green stuff rather than the meat. The second leg of the tour was hosted by Hannes Du Plessis, Jerome Zondagh and Nardo Greef. The group was picked up from elements and the route to Polokwane started. The road trip included a visit to a crocodile farm where there was interaction with crocks and some crock meat was also on the menu. Morris saw some free crocodile eggs and could not resist the temptation. Some of the eggs was later cooked to be tasted. The results are debatable, apparently it is good to cleanse the system.

Arriving in Polokwane, it was an honor to host our new family at our clubhouse for some great fellowship and to show them where we operate. We were joined by members of Bushveld area for the night, Zoutpansberg 66, Tzaneen 96 was part of the festivities. There was a pig on the spit with chicken and some much-needed vegies for those that is not used to meat as a staple food. The Bokke also ensured that the hearth rates to skyrocket. Impala 157 was gifted with a very special Delft bottle of Bols and delicious Stroop waffles.

Due to the high intensity of tour the party ended around midnight for most of the team, however the Bushveld boys and girls was hungry for some 157 fellowship and pushed the clock till the early hours of Sunday Morning.

Sunday was again an early start to the day, breakfast was served at the Pietersburg Club where the team was staying over. The trip to the final part of the tour started and we were off to Magoebaskloof, Hosted by Keagan and Graham, joined by Dian, Jerome and Vos where we treated the Dutch with some high adrenalin Ziplining across the beautiful scenery of Georges Valley. Zwakala Brewery was the next stop for the day. A tour of the micro-brewery and some beer tasting was enjoyed. For the rest of the afternoon we all just absorbed the beauty of the area with some refreshments. The Final stop for the day was at the beautiful Mountain Fly Fishing resort. We had our final dinner for the Limpopo leg of the tour. Food was served and some speeches was made. There was some gees left and wine was flowing for one last time.

The Power of the Rondel

The last day, like they say, all good things come to an end. And the last day of this magnificent tour has come. Impala 157 took the group to one of our projects that we support, Pathways Enrichment Centre. it has just once again shown us that the problems we might have is simple and solvable, there is people out there with real life problems and challenges. It was not an easy visit as the reality of life is not always pretty and easy, but it was a privilege to show this to our brothers from abroad. We would also just again want to thank the team of Pathways for the great work they do. This is people with real life superpowers and the world need a lot more people like you.

One last hurrah, the final activity was and interaction with Lion cubs that was arranged by Dario Cremona. It was great to see the excitement of everyone when those cubs were taken out of the crates, especially the kids. It was such an honor to have shared such an experience with such a great group of people. The journey back to the airport started and the final greetings was bittersweet, teary eyed for most this magnificent tour ended.

From our side we would like to thank each of your guys for joying us on this absolute fantastic experience, thank you for bringing your partners and your kids to be part of this experience. As tablers we are truly the lucky ones.

With lots of Love

Coming back to the heading of our story, it is amazing how a symbol can unit people, we had a group of Dutch strangers arriving at OR Tambo and five days later they left as family. This experience of fellowship and friendship is because of this magnificent organization Round Table that we are all part of. Fellowship with no borders, new Family.

The Power of the Rondel

Meeting the Dutch 157 table I was pessimistic at first, I thought there would be a division between the South Africans and the Dutch. How wrong could I have been! It was as if we were meeting old friends when in fact it was our first time meeting them. It just shows how special the roundtable community is worldwide!

Graham Taylor

At first, I did not know what to expect upon arriving in South Africa. We had heard stories from friends about violence and crime. Now that I am back home, I am so grateful to the Tablers and their families for making me feel safe and secure throughout the entire trip. We had a blast! I enjoyed the adventures, even though I do not need much more than a golfcart and some gravel road to have a good time. The ziplining adventure also made a great impact because of the beautiful scenery combined with the adrenaline rush. But the pinnacle of this journey was visiting the school for special needs children. It was a humbling experience, seeing what role the Round Table can play in taking care of basic needs for people who cannot provide it for themselves. Lots of love,

It's often challenging to put into words what the Round Table truly represents, but the recent tour is even harder to explain to 'outsiders'. The Round Table apparently is like an invisible thread that binds us all together, creating a sense of family and unity that transcends borders. I never imagined that I would find family on the other side of the world, but it sure feels like that now. This, for me, is the ultimate highlight. Of course, your project with the school was deeply inspiring to all of us. The bush drives, the thrilling canopy tour, and the chance to explore your part of the world were all beautiful moments. The other thing that sets this journey apart is your incredible hospitality. The delicious food and drinks, the care you have showered upon us – you've truly raised the bar. Thank you, RT157, for these incredible experiences. With sincere gratitude,

An Unforgettable Adventure!

From the moment we set foot in South Africa to the instant we bid farewell, our journey was flawlessly orchestrated. Our short trip to South Africa was brimming with a diverse range of engaging activities. However, the most cherished moments were the interactions with the two groups. Meeting all of you was the highlight of my experience, as it allowed us to partake in unique activities that typically elude tourists. From Dario's captivating lion encounter on the golf course to our visit to your school project, culminating in a delightful BBQ with breath-taking views, these were memories to treasure.

Moreover, the thrilling activities, including encounters with elephants, crocodiles, and the exhilarating zipline, added an extra layer of excitement to our trip. In conclusion, it was nothing short of awesome. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all of you for your warm hospitality, which made us feel not just welcome, but also right at home.

Warm regards,

Thom

For both Fenna and Jesse the ziplining/cuddle with the baby lion were shared number 1. Also, a funny quote from Jesse yesterday: Maybe if I’m old I can also join the roundtable and come back here.

For both Patty and me: This was seriously life changing. We never-ever-ever felt so welcome as we did with you guys. It feels like we met family that we did not know before. So, it's hard to choose a specific moment. We did so much amazing things that are in my top10 ever but what both Patty and me will remember from this trip is the people, RT157 Impala (and friends).

Kristian, Patty, Jesse, Fenna Zondervan

I have never felt more welcome in another country, not even my own. The table has often brought me friendship, pleasure, and a network of peers. Making Waves and Creating Conversations: The Big Splash at Sandbar

The Sandbar floating restaurant played host to an exciting and anticipatory event this past weekend - The Big Splash, where many gathered in the spirit of fun and camaraderie, eagerly awaiting the question of who would get wet!

In a splash-worthy fashion statement, Jacques van Wyk clinched the first-place spot with his eye-popping Round Table slimsuit, setting the tone for a day filled with both style and substance. The delightful atmosphere was complemented by a side of fish and chips, specially prepared by our esteemed hosts, creating a perfect blend of flavors for all to enjoy. We're eagerly anticipating the next one and can't wait to see more of you there!

But it wasn't just about the water and the wardrobe – Jacques van Wyk took a stand for an important cause, donning the latest from the 'Don't Camo Yourself' clothing range: a multi-colored lumo camo wrestling singlet. Beyond being a fashion statement, this attire served as a powerful conversation starter, focusing on the current challenges and stigma surrounding Male Mental Health issues.

As part of our commitment to raising awareness, fake mustaches were sold at the event in support of the month of November and the collaborative campaign between Round Table Southern Africa and the Men's Foundation of South Africa.

The Big Splash was more than just an outdoor extravaganza; it was a celebration of community and a reminder that great fellowship can be had for a great cause. This event, with its blend of fun and purpose, has the potential to become a significant annual affair, encouraging both the young and old to come together, enjoy the outdoors, and contribute to meaningful conversations that matter. Let's make a splash for a purpose!

With a fully packed year behind us and in the midst of running our “Manne aand”, Round table Impala 157 did not necessarily focus on raising fund for the course but rather awareness.

As a collective we took on the motto “As jy nie Snor nie, Sal jy nie Score nie” now the scoring part is debatable and each tabler would have to elaborate on that themselves.

I can however confirm that we had numerous members of our Tablers

that looked a lot like Piet Swiets and I can not confirm nor deny that all was allowed in close proximity of schools. As much as we wanted this campaign to be all inclusive, we unfortunately have members that have not been blessed with the growth of facial hair genes, however in spirit they participated all the way.

But on a more serious note, at it is always said that charity starts at home and growing the mows had a certain renewed awareness of our wellbeing,

Impala 157 - As jy nie snor nie, sal jy nie score nie Brovember

and as always, the important thing is that it is a great conversation starter. It was a privilege to be part of such a campaign and I trust it will grow from strength to strength.

So we recently watched the Rugby World cup and for many Tablers I believe this was a stressful and exiting time.

Now in Potch there is alot of places one can watch the rugby. For instance at the Elgro hotel which some off you know because of the Vat ‘n Bietjie Potch Tri area.

The world cup kick off for South Africa was the Scotland game. In Potchefstroom we have a couple of 41 er’s from our table and from a few other table’s like no. 1, 88 and 72 and so on.

One of our 41 er’s Mr. Craigh Comfort invited us to his guest farm for the Start of the Bokke’s world cup. The spirits were high during this first braai, there was no stress, after the game we had one big party.

We made a promise the 41 er’s and the Tablers that if the Bokke make the final we would do it again. This time the atmosphere was different; tensions was high and although we were happy to see one another again we could not get the 1 point wins out of our heads. The spectators at this braai setup differently we pulled close to the TV and no one was stepping out to smoke.

We were al at the tips of our seats, some of the guys was video calling their brothers to watch the game in America and other were stress drinking alot.

The 50 or so of us was so quiet the last 90 seconds of the Final that one could only hear the TV. But after the final whistle blew, we were so loud one could not here anything, other gents lost their voices. The atmosphere of relief that blew over the spectators was instant.

There was alot of joy and pride in our Bokke and the guy’s went crazy. This just shows that through table one can make friend from many different places, backgrounds and ages. I wil not soon forget this amazing but stressful experience.

Well-done Bokke.

BOKKE en die Beker
Rugby,

The anticipation I had for the October Namibia Area Conference 2023 cannot be reduced to words. I was very excited and looking forward to this event which had many highlights to write about.

I found Chris and Monique having a smoke in front of my house as they eagerly waited to pick me up after work at 1.15 pm on very warm Friday the 13th afternoon. It was such a beautiful day for one associated with many negative superstitions. We loaded up my bags and we were on our way to Swakopmund. This very short drive was long enough for Chris to have me redefine what I call strange music. We fuelled up in 145 territory and started off what felt like a very long drive where we witness strange drivers that frustrated our driver to an unplanned lay-by stop. Eventually we made it to the Smokey Mare, the would-be venue.

The reception warm, loud from RT36 and welcoming from everyone as most tablers had already arrived and fellowshipping at the venue. Drinks were served while we waited for diner. Members of Hochland invited me to play a game of billiard pool with them, a moment they would soon rue because they underestimated a man from Walvis Bay. My host, Sathy, was threating to make me sleep outside if I didn’t let him win at least one game. The food eventually came and after the night was now late, but my host had other plans than to go and show his guest where he was sleeping. If it wasn’t for the highly anticipated meeting the following morning, I doubt we would’ve gone home.

Mr T’s Nam Area Experience

For a couple of tablers who slept at 4.30 in the morning we were up early for the area business meeting that started somewhat on time as Chris and I were not looking at the watch but rather our aims and objectives to resight at our induction, plus the mysterious table song not known to tablers. The long meeting went well as many important issues were discussed, but my highlight of the day was being able to resight our aims and objectives in front of the Namibia Area Table family. The induction went smoothly except for the absent induction packages but it was an honour standing in front of all of you to make this commitment. I am looking forward to help further the aims and objectives of Round Table Southern Africa in my community and personal life.

After we were released by the area chairman, we went for lunch, and I was looking forward to catching up on some missed sleep as my host promised more of the same party from the previous night. I did take my sleep as the brain had ordered but we slightly overslept and lost time I need to prepare my glow sticks properly for the evening. But after arriving at the venue, we came up with something that wasn’t too bad. The neon party was fun packed as it was lined up to have the buffalo induction, the boat races, award ceremony and most importantly dinner. It was during and after dinner that I decided to sell myself for the numbers box draws. As the box was getting more and more attention, I was getting disliked by tablers and their partners who were drawing big numbers from the box.

During this money box craze I also had a great honour of receiving pins from Tami the president of Ladies’ circle Namibia herself. The fun and joy that came with this event can not be reduced to words. Here is but only a few.

The pool games continued into the night, the fellowship, the cheers. The conversations, meeting people, learning about Sathy’s big city ambitions, his knowledge about Jägermeister and more cheers as the last man standing contest continues. Sathy could not be defeated so we headed out to more party. I danced into the night celebrating my induction as the rest of the tablers went to their homes, including some that missed their beds so much they couldn’t spend another night away. Even though there wasn’t much night left.

Going to sleep at 5.00 am and travelling that same morning is probably not a good idea but it was worth it. We woke up 2 hours later than we had planned but Sathy, Monique, Chris, Mario, and I met up at Grove Mall and we had breakfast and on last chat with our Windhoek brothers before we started of our return journey. At approximately 5.00 pm we were safely back in Walvis Bay, home of the best table that took almost all the area trophies. 36!

Yours in Table, Taonga (Mr T, Black unicorn)

Matlosane45BarOlympics

In a spirited effort to blend camaraderie with a touch of healthy competition, Matlosane 45 embarked on a memorable journey by organizing the first-ever Bar Olympics as part of the Movember campaign and co-part membership drive. What ensued was not just a success but a testament to the vibrant spirit of the Round Table.

The atmospheree was charged with enthusiasm as all ten teams eagerly took up the challenge, transforming the Bar Olympics into a resounding triumph. With beer pong, darts, and pool setting the stage, the knock-out style competition kept the participants on the edge of their seats.

The event served as a dynamic platform, not only for the existing members but also as a means to reach out to new faces. As Round Table, we welcomed new acquaintances and forged connections with individuals who resonated with our mission.

The exposure gained through the Bar Olympics extended beyond the bounds of the event itself. A new guest is set to join our ranks at the next meeting, drawn in by the dynamic and engaging nature of the Bar Olympics. It’s a testament to the success of the event in not just fostering fun but also in broadening our Round Table family.

Heartfelt congratulations are in order for the deserving winners, marking the initiation of what promises to be an annual tradition. The Bar Olympics demonstrated that blending purpose with pleasure can yield remarkable results, and we look forward to raising the bar even higher in the years to come.

As the first chapter of our annual Bar Olympics concludes, we bid farewell with a resounding “Cheers!” and eagerly anticipate the next round of spirited competition and community building. Until then, see you next year for another round of unforgettable memories.

3RD ASSCO @ PAARL

Paarl 44, had the privileged of hosting the 3rd ASSCO at our clubhouse. It was a memorable weekend with great fellowship between the tablers. The ladies tour was held at Rickety Bridge wine farm, where they each made their own bottle of wine, whilst the men held their meeting. The evening everyone got together at the clubhouse and had a great time.

As the clock struck midnight and the sky erupted in a symphony of fireworks, Matlosane 45 bid farewell to 2023 in a spectacular celebration at Jan-Albert's river house. This New Year's Eve was not just an event; it was a testament to the camaraderie and brotherhood that defines Matlosane 45.

Nestled by the river, the venue set the stage for an unforgettable night of revelry. Laughter echoed through the air as the Matlosane 45 family came together to welcome 2024 with open arms. The night was a kaleidoscope of joy, from shared jokes to spontaneous dancing that continued well into the early hours.

Before the clock struck twelve, the festivities kicked off with a delightful

45's New Year's

sundowner cruise on the boat. The gentle river breeze, the golden hues of the setting sun, and the company of fellow tablers created a magical prelude to the night's main event.

As the stars emerged in the night sky, the revelry moved to the heart of the celebration. Music filled the air, and the dance floor became a stage for the Matlosane 45 family to showcase their moves. The New Year's Eve party wasn't just an ordinary gathering; it was a testament to the bonds that bind the members of Matlosane 45 as true brothers.

While some opted for the adventure of camping under the stars, others sought refuge in the house for a good night's sleep. The morning after, however, brought its own set of challenges as

those who braved the tents faced the task of dismantling their temporary abodes with the echoes of the previous night still ringing in their heads.

As the sun rose on the first day of 2024, Matlosane 45 looked back on a night of shared joy, laughter, and the reaffirmation of the bonds that make this group a true family. Here's to a year ahead filled with more adventures, camaraderie, and unforgettable moments for Matlosane 45. Happy New Year!

Walvis Bay 36 Donating Blood

In a remarkable display of community spirit and commitment to saving lives, Round Table Walvis Bay 36 recently concluded its annual blood donation drive, a philanthropic endeavor that underscores the organization's dedication to making a positive impact. Held every Tuesday over five separate occasions, members of Round Table Walvis Bay 36 rallied together to donate a total of 23 units of blood, with each unit amounting to 0.5 liters. This collective effort has the potential to save up to 69 lives, a testament to the power of unified action in contributing to the well-being of the broader community.

The significance of the blood donation

drive lies not only in the quantity of blood collected but also in the understanding that each unit donated has the potential to save up to three lives. The 23 units contributed by the 11 individuals from Round Table Walvis Bay 36 reflect a selfless act that goes beyond mere numbers, showcasing the organization's commitment to making a tangible difference in the lives of those in need. Through this initiative, Round Table Walvis Bay 36 members have exemplified the true spirit of community service, providing a lifeline to those facing critical health challenges.

The success of the blood donation drive is a direct result of the Round Table

Walvis Bay 36 members' willingness to contribute to a cause larger than themselves. This annual endeavor not only promotes awareness about the vital need for blood donations but also serves as an inspiring example of how a dedicated group of individuals can positively impact their community. As Round Table Walvis Bay 36 continues to embody the principles of fellowship and service, the blood donation drive stands as a shining example of what can be achieved when a community comes together with a shared goal of saving lives.

On the 23rd of December 2023 we at Port Alfred 177 hopped in our cars, armed with some burger patties and buns, gift packs for the kids, a massive anonymous donation and 100 jars from our Jar of Hope project with Port Alfred Ladies Circle No.29. We soon arrived at Jehova Jirah Haven ready to make some lunch and hopefully put a few smiles on some faces. We got out and were immediately swarmed by children so, so happy to have some new company. None of us were prepared for the overwhelming response. Looking around you could seldomly spot a tabler or ladies leg without a child in the arms or walking hand in hand listening to a very excited child tell a story. This was a life changing day for all of us at 177, we learned how little it takes to make such a huge change in their lives. Julius, our then chairman has a very soft spot for JJh, being one of the children orphaned

Jar of Hope project

there. We had often heard stories about how much it would change us but never knew the true impact it would have on us. We now do. We were sent on our way with a delicious cake and a few beautiful songs prepared and sung wonderfully by the children to show their appreciation. What a day! All in all, we delivered just over R35k to JJh on that day, but more importantly, a little hope that there is still good in the world. Thank you to everyone single person who was involved in this! Delivering some #impactfulchange with some quality #roundtable ladies and gents!

Our jar of hope project kicked off with a bang and a target of 200 jars. Armed with our wits, our best smiles, and a well-rehearsed sponsorship speech, we headed to our local grocery stores and started leaning on our community. Boy oh boy did they deliver! We collected

enough food to fill 346 jars and would have been able to fill a few more if we could get our hands on some more jars. We teamed up with the Ladies Circle and Port Alfred high school to make this project a huge success. This project enabled us to donate a meal to 2768 people in need.

Margaret Mead once said, "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world: indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has."

We are proud to be part of this organization that is helping change the world!

RT158 Family weekend

Time Management

During this year, we all hear a lot that “I can’t attend, I’m busy at work” etc. I am one of those that used some of those lines when I can’t attend meetings or events of Table. So I decided to do an article on time management in a nutshell.

Effective time management can help you increase your productivity, reduce your stress, improve your work-life balance, and advance your career. Some of the key time management skills that can be used in you professional career and Table Career include:

Organizing your work life: This involves keeping your workspace, schedule, and files tidy and accessible. It also means using a calendar, a to-do list, or a project management tool to plan your tasks and deadlines.

Prioritizing your tasks: This means identifying the most important and urgent tasks and completing them first, while avoiding distractions and procrastination.

Avoiding multitasking: Multitasking can reduce your focus, efficiency, and quality of work. It is better to focus on one task at a time and finish it before moving on to the next one. You can also group similar tasks together and batch them to save time and energy.

Taking scheduled breaks: Working for long periods without rest can lead to fatigue, burnout, and decreased performance. Taking regular breaks can help you recharge your energy, refresh your mind, and improve your creativity and productivity. You can use techniques like the Pomodoro method or the 52/17 rule to schedule your work and break intervals.

Keeping meetings purposeful: Meetings can be a valuable way to communicate, collaborate, and solve problems, but they can also be a waste of time if they are not well-planned and executed. To make your meetings more effective, you should have a clear agenda, invite only the relevant people, start and end on time, and follow up with action items and feedback. This counts for Table business meetings as well.

Practicing your good habits: Time management is not a one-time thing, but a continuous process of learning and improving. To become a better time manager, you need to practice your good habits consistently and monitor your progress and results. You can also seek feedback, learn from others, and adapt to changing situations and demands.

The following might be preaching to the wrong crowed since we are already part of a great organization doing great things in the community.

Charity Work: It is a great way to give back to your community and make a positive difference in someone’s life. After hour charity work can also benefit you in many ways, such as:

Making new friends and contacts: Volunteering can help you meet new people who share your interests and values, and expand your network and social skills.

Improving your mental and physical health: Volunteering can reduce your stress, combat depression, keep you mentally stimulated, and provide a sense of purpose and fulfillment.

Advancing your career: Volunteering can help you learn new skills, gain experience, demonstrate your abilities, and enhance your resume and portfolio.

Having fun and enjoyment: Volunteering can be a fun and rewarding activity that allows you to explore your passions, hobbies, and talents, and have a good time.

Careers and family responsibilities are important, but we as men need time to socialize and be part of a great bunch of guys. Finding the right balance that will work for you will benefit you in the long run.

Legacy

Matlosane 45, the tight-knit community known for their unwavering commitment to saving lives, recently gathered once more to donate blood. KeyofFriendship.

The Key of Friendship is more than just a decorative token; it's a tangible representation of our commitment to knowing and appreciating one another on a personal level. This substantial, key carries with it the weight of countless stories and shared moments that have woven us together as a close-knit community within Round Table Matlosane.

During the exchange, the accompanying booklet played a crucial role, offering a written testament to our shared experiences. Each member's story, laid out within its pages, captures the essence of our diverse personalities, passions, and the unique qualities that make us who we are. This living history of Round Table Matlosane serves as a guide for both current and future members, providing a window into the rich tapestry of our collective journey.

The Key of Friendship isn't just a tradition; it's a vehicle for building deeper connections among us. In sharing these personal stories, we create a space for vulnerability and authenticity that goes beyond the typical dynamics of an organization. It's in these exchanges that we truly get to know each other—celebrating the triumphs, navigating the challenges, and understanding the nuances that make each member an integral part of our Round Table family.

Passing on the Key to Francois Fourie was not just a ceremonial act; it symbolized the continuation of a legacy of friendship. Entrusted with this emblem of unity, Francois is now poised to contribute his own unique chapter to our collective story within Round Table Matlosane.

The tradition of the Key of Friendship is a testament to our organization's commitment to fostering meaningful connections and a sense of belonging. In a world where personal connections can sometimes be overshadowed, this tradition reminds us that, within Round Table Matlosane, we are more than just members; we are a closely bonded family with a shared history and an exciting future.

TheKey of Friendship is not just a symbol; it is a part of my personal journey within Round Table Matlosane. As stories continue to be added to the booklet and the key changes hands, it reinforces the bonds that make our organization a family, united by shared experiences, understanding, and a commitment to each other's growth and well-being.

Paarl 44 – 68ste Induction Dinner

Welkom40YearinReview

As we bid farewell to another remarkable year, it's essential to take a moment to look back at the moments that defined our community in 2023. Amidst the challenges we faced, one shining thread wove through the fabric of our collective experience: the spirit of serving others with joy and enthusiasm.

Throughout the past twelve months, our community came together in a myriad of projects and activities aimed at making a positive difference. Organizing food drives for the less fortunate, the passion for service ignited hearts and minds, leaving an indelible mark on all involved.

As we turn the page to a new chapter, let us carry forward the spirit of service that defined our journey in 2023. Let us continue to seek out opportunities to uplift and empower those around us, knowing that even the smallest acts of kindness can spark profound change. Together, we have proven that when we come together with love and compassion, there is no limit to what we can achieve.

In the tapestry of our community's story, 2023 will be remembered as a year of joy, unity, and unwavering dedication to serving others. As we look ahead with hope and optimism, let us embark on this new year with the same fervor and commitment to making our world a brighter, more compassionate place for all.

Mosselbay 32 Beach Cleanup

Round Table Mossel Bay 32 kicked off 2024 on a high note with yet another successful #BeachCleanup at Diaz Beach yesterday.

The turnout was fantastic, & we managed to collect an impressive 17.4 kg of waste.

Let’s strive to leave only our footprints in the sand & no trace of waste as we enjoy the sea. Remember, even small efforts can lead to meaningful change.

Honoring Tradition and Leadership

On the evening of February 3, 2024, the Gonubie Hotel and Conference Centre in East London played host to a momentous occasion – the 76th Chairman's Induction Ceremony of Round Table No.1 East London. The oldest Table in Southern Africa and the birthplace of Round Table. This event, steeped in tradition and camaraderie, brought together Tablers from across the Border region to pay tribute to the legacy of Sir David Smith and the esteemed line of Chairmen who have guided the organization throughout its history.

The atmosphere was one of reverence and celebration as members gathered to honor the past and embrace the future. Amidst the elegant ambiance of the venue, guests reflected on the profound impact of Round Table in their lives and communities.

A highlight of the evening was the address delivered by the distinguished guest speaker, Incoming Ladies Circle South Africa President, Yolandi Gray-Browne. Her inspiring words resonated deeply, reaffirming the commitment to service and fellowship that lies at the heart of Round Table's mission.

As the ceremony unfolded, all eyes turned to the newly appointed Chairman of No.1 East London, Daryan Rowe, and his dedicated executive team. With a blend of anticipation and excitement, attendees offered their heartfelt wishes for success in the year ahead. Their leadership will undoubtedly shape the direction of the organization and further its mission of community engagement and philanthropy.

As the evening drew to a close, amidst applause and camaraderie, one sentiment echoed loud and clear – a resounding affirmation of the enduring spirit of Round Table and the profound impact it continues to make in the lives of its members and the communities they serve. Here's to a successful year ahead for Chairman Daryan Rowe and his executive team, as they carry forward the rich legacy of Round Table No.1 East London.

In an adventure that was nothing short of spectacular, Witbank LC26 Chairman, Diane Fourie, donned her traveling boots, setting off on a remarkable journey that would see her connecting with Ladies Circles from every corner of South Africa. The destination? The Estcourt Ladies Circle In-Formation Charter Weekend—a celebration of camaraderie, joy, and the spirit of togetherness.

Amidst the festivities, Diane found herself immersed in the joy of building new friendships and strengthening the bonds of old companionship. The Estcourt Ladies Circle In-Formation Charter Weekend was a resounding success, and LC26 extends heartfelt congratulations to the hosting Circle, wishing them countless years of joyful circling ahead.

But the adventure didn't end there. On her return journey, Diane was joined by none other than LCSA President, Riana Klopper, and Edenvale LC4 Chairman, Cherise Hamman. Together, they embarked on a road trip filled with laughter, stories, and the joy of shared experiences. Making a pitstop in Middelburg, the trio expanded their party, welcoming Witbank LC26 Webmaster, Sandra Lawrenson, and RT26 Secretary, John Robbert Smith, for a spontaneous social gathering.

Our Chairman, Diane, is truly the heartbeat of LC26—keeping us on our toes with her infectious energy and unwavering commitment to fostering connections. We celebrate Diane's journey, applaud the success of Estcourt Ladies Circle InFormation, and eagerly anticipate the stories that will continue to unfold as our LC26 adventures persist. Cheers to the spirit of Ladies Circle and the incredible women who make it shine!
