SERVICE CLASS
Service classes describe the environmental conditions to which a timber element or joint is exposed during use. Temperature and humidity influence the average moisture content in the material, directly affecting its mechanical performance. The reference values are established by Eurocode 5.

Atmospheric corrosion depends on factors such as relative humidity, pollution levels, the presence of airborne chlorides and the type of joint exposure (indoor, protected outdoor or exposed outdoor). Exposure is classified in the CE category, which is based on category C as defined in EN ISO 9223. Atmospheric corrosivity only affects the exposed part of the connector.

WOOD CORROSIVITY
Corrosion caused by wood depends on the wood species, wood treatment and moisture content. Exposure levels are defined by category TE according to EN 14592:2022.
The corrosivity of wood only affects the connector part inserted in the wooden element.

Thanks to its raised counter-thread slitting elements, the 3 THORNS tip acts like a pilot hole, allowing reduced edge distances; ideal for use in joinery elements and furniture panels – even in very thin materials.
An extensive experimental campaign was conducted to test the performance of small-diameter screws with the 3 THORNS tip across various commonly used materials, such as melamine-faced, plated or MDF panels.

On site, membranes are often exposed to multiple stress factors simultaneously, such as mechanical stress, weathering and UV radiation – situations that are difficult to replicate in standard testing.
This is why the range of monolithic membranes was developed, which have less degradation than a microporous film when exposed to ultraviolet radiation, pollutants or other sources of stress.
NOTE: The membranes are intended for use underneath discontinuous roof coverings and behind external wall coverings to prevent the penetration of wind and water from outside. They also provide temporary protection against weathering. In the case of prolonged exposure or extreme events, external protection systems are recommended.

The three-level method is used in many European countries to ensure correct installation of doors and windows. Air tightness, wind tightness and thermal-acoustic insulation are all key aspects to be considered in every stage of the design. HOLZ TECHNIC offers specific solutions for each of these levels.
