In 2013, Rotecna has made one of its most significant investments in recent years with the acquisition of the German-made Krauss Maffei KM2000/24500MX injector, equipped with the latest technology in injection on the market. An investment of more than € 1 million will enable the company to manufacture 100 % of its products, up from 75%, and boost the capacity for innovation and development of large-scale products for pig farms. The new injector allows parts up to 15 kilos in weight.

For now, the Krauss Maffei injection and production covers the most popular hoppers in the sector, the TR5 and TR2, the Grow Maxi Feeder and Ni -2 Corner. The head of the injection section at Rotecna, Ramon Petit explains that the new machine has been running since October, adding that, “every day we work to incorporate more products with the aim that this machine will be fully operational from January or February 2014”.

The “Diada”, the Eleventh of September is the national holiday of Catalonia and commemorates the last stand in Barcelona on the 11th of September 1714.

That is why the company’s R&D department is working on the design of new products that could be made with the new machine with a maximum capacity for 50-tons moulds. Currently the maximum weight for Rotecna moulds was 6 tons.

The CEO of Rotecna, Amable Izquierdo, also emphasized that one of the advantages of Krauss Maffei plastic injector is energy saving. Izquierdo states that the new machine “consumes between 30% and 40% less energy than a conventional injector”. In addition, the acquisition of the new machine means hiring at least 6 direct workers who will become part of a team of about 130 people.

With the acquisition of this new injector, Rotecna currently has 12 injection machines, allowing it to continue developing new products according to market needs and improving the service it offers the customers.

The 11th of September: Commemorative or assertive day History The celebration of the Diada dates back to 1886 and commemorates the defeat of Catalonia in 1714, which led to the abolition of the Catalan institutions and a loss of civil liberties.

The events of the Diada did not begin until one and a half centuries after this defeat and started off only as funeral oration for the dead in Santa Maria del Mar. The first floral offerings at the monument to Rafel Casanovas, installed six years earlier, took place around 1894. In fact, unlike the general decline in the consumption of meat and fish since 2000, consumption of pork has increased by 0.6 kilograms per person per year.

1991 there were 36,000 farms with an average of 314.9 head each, while in 2000, this had fallen to 11,700 farms with 838.1 head per farm, and in 2012, there were only 5,840 farms although each had an average of 1,667 head. As for the geographical distribution of pork production, in 2012, the main producing regions were Kyushu, Kanto-Tosan (Gifu, Nagano and Yamanashi prefectures) and Tohoku.

There are more than five hundred pigmeat processors in Japan. Most of them are small and medium companies, but the market is dominated by the large manufacturers. The five largest companies in the domestic fresh meat market are: Nippon Meat Packers Inc., Itoham Foods Inc., Prima Meat Packers Ltd., Starzen Corporation and finally Marudai Food Corporation (in descending order of turnover).

The figures for meat production, reached 52.7% of the total in 2011, and in the first 11 months of the 2012 fiscal year, this rose to 53.4%, a figure that also reflects this trend.

Export market The Japanese pig meat market is highly competitive. The USA, Denmark, Canada, Mexico and Chile are competing to increase their market share. Meanwhile, Italy leads European Union exports to Japan and is only surpassed by Spain in exports of ham on the bone.

The temporary ban on imports of European cattle to Russia was met with “great disappointment” in Brussels. European Commissioners for Trade and Health, Karel De Gucht and John Dalli, defined this as “disproportionate and unjustified” and demanded its immediate lifting, as reported by RIA Novosti.
