"Every one of us is faced with series of great opportunities brilliantly disguised as impossible situation – Cancer was mine. So how do you find the courage to move on when your life is spinning out of control? (To be honest I am still trying to figure that out). What I know is that you can’t let your fears worries and doubts about the future prevent you from living the life you want to live. In the face of something you fear you have to stand up and be brave. You may not be able to control the world (this is something we hear a lot), but you can definitely control who you choose to be and what actions you take. So, choose to be patient in times of chaos, choose to love your body especially in times when it lets you down, choose to be brave at times of great vulnerability, choose to be something, choose to be anything. Only small part of the cancer experience is about medicine, most of it is about feelings, faith, losing & finding your identity and discovering strength and flexibility you never knew you had and realizing that the most important things in life aren’t things, they are actually relationships, laughing at the face of uncertainty and learning that the way to get out of almost anything is to acknowledge your fear and decide to do something about. Remember, it is always that balance of reality and being hopeful that makes things move forward. Everyone has his definition of HOPE and chose to hold on to it at every step of the way."

THE ROTARY FOUNDATION Global Grants Committee Liason OFficer The Rotary Foundation History Our Foundation has very special qualities as it is an enabling Foundation, it asks us to donate or contribute like so many other charities but it also asks us to get involved and utilize the funds. We give but we also receive. Our Foundation is able to achieve its mission through the generous contributions and active participation of Rotarians and friends of Rotary. The main recipient of donations to TRF is the annual fund. When we donate, half our contributions are directed to the District Fund and the other half makes its way to the World Fund. Both help support and enable Rotary projects to become reality through grants. It was in 1917 that the RI President Arch Klumpf said “It seems eminently proper that we should accept endowments for the purpose of doing good in the world, in charitable, educational or other avenues of community progress” and so “doing good in the world” has become the TRF motto. In 1917 the RC of Kansas City made the first contribution $26.50 to the endowment fund suggested by Arch Klumph. But for almost a decade the endowment went largely unknown and received few contributions. Scholarships were the first big program of TRF set up in 1947 following the death of Paul Harris. It is essentially a tribute to the founder of Rotary. The Foundation launched the Rotary Centers for International Studies in 1999 in cooperation with several leading universities throughout the world. These Rotary Peace Centers welcomed the inaugural class of peace fellows in the Autumn of 2002. This is the Foundations number one educational priority. Through academic training, study and practice the Rotary Peace Centers program develops leaders who became catalysts for peace and conflict resolution and prevention in their communities and around the globe.

District grants fund small scale, short term activities that address needs in local communities and communities abroad. Each district chooses which activities it will fund with these grants. Some districts choose to allocate smaller grants to support several club projects.
Global grants support largescale international activities with sustainable, measurable outcomes in one or more of Rotary’s six areas of focus. Grant sponsors form international partnerships and work together to develop projects that respond to real community needs.

THE ROTARY FOUNDATION
Global grants can fund: Humanitarian projects Scholarships for graduate-level academic studies Vocational training teams The Foundation’s Trustees provide scrupulous oversight, and the global network of volunteers and technical experts known as the Cadre who carry out and monitor Foundation grant projects practice the highest ethical standards, ensuring that volunteers’ and contributors’ investments of time and money are put to good use. This excellent stewardship is recognized by organizations that rate charities; they regularly give The Rotary Foundation high marks for its efficient use of contributions. Currently the Foundation has been awarded the highest 4-star award by Charity Navigator a standard achieved by only 1% of charities for prudent care of donor's money, satisfying community need and fiscal responsibility. From its first contribution of $26.50, the Foundation’s assets have grown to approximately $1 billion, and more than $3 billion have been spent on programs and projects, transforming millions of lives across the globe.

GUIDE TO
Global Grants Project Manager On the 6th of October, the Global Grants Committee lunched its 1st training for the Lebanese Presidents on their Presidents meeting with the presence of the VDRRs and Country Representative of Rotaract Mediterranean Elissar Ezzeddine. The training tackled many topics for applying for Global Grants such as, eligibility of applying, steps of being a qualified club to apply for grants, key factors for getting a grant successful and ways of assessing the project. Presidents were interactive and passionate about knowing more concerning the topic. Many questions were asked during the training. The questions are: How can Rotaract clubs be involved in Rotary grants? As of January 2022, Districts that apply for Rotary Foundation district grants can include Rotaract club activities in their spending plans. As of July 2022, Rotaract clubs can apply for global grants to support them. Service work in their own communities or abroad. Do Rotaract clubs have access to the Grant Center to apply for a global grant? As of July 2022, Rotaract clubs can apply for a global grant using the Grant Center. To plan and prepare a draft application in advance, clubs can use the Global Grant Application Template. Are we eligible to open bank accounts for the grants project? Yes. It is a must; you should open a bank account just for the Global Grants project that you are going to work on. Can we apply for a grant if we don’t have an experience with our Rotary club before? To be eligible to sponsor a global grant, a Rotaract club needs to have previously worked with a Rotary club or District on a global grant-funded project.

ROTARACT ACADEMY Rotaract Academy President
Our district is unique in so many things: 9 countries, 3 continents and a lot of diversity contributing to “fellowship through service”. Not only we are rich in culture, but also rich in Rotaract-Rotary knowledge as we’re the only district that includes a Rotaract Academy. A simple idea that started with training district teams and developed over the years to become a whole program, that accompanies a Rotaractor from day one as a new member throughout all their journey to a committee head, board member and a President. Rotaract Academy is an independent identity withing District 2452 and has its own board. With a main mission to share knowledge, train and develop leaders by exposing them to technical and soft skills. This year as a Rotaract Academy board, we had a vision to further enhance our members experience by supporting the clubs to create a bigger impact in serving their communities. We focused on each academy level with a soft skill theme that directly contributes to their actual work. For new members to be more involved with the club, the theme is “Dynamics within a Team”. As for the club assembly (Board + Directors) the focus theme is “Project Management”; with an aim to help them execute projects faster with greater reach. Finally for Presidents the focus was on leadership with its various aspects, all the way from basic communication skills to a deep dive on situational leadership. This year we had the chance to roll-out this program with several countries in the district and we hope that will finish this year covering all the 7 countries. Over 100 new members, 300+ board members and directors, and 53 presidents were trained this year and we still count as our agenda is full until the end of this year.

And as an academy president I would like to thank the team for the contribution and dedication towards our vision and making it happen.
