MATERNAL AND CHILD HEALTH

Every day mothers risk their lives giving birth and millions of children die each year from treatable, preventable causes. At least 7 million children under the age of five die each year due to malnutrition, poor health care, and inadequate sanitation. To help reduce this rate, Rotary provides immunizations and antibiotics to babies, improves access to essential medical services, and supports trained health care providers for mothers and their children. Rotary’s projects ensure sustainability by empowering the local community to take ownership of health care training programs.

HOW ROTARY MAKES HELP HAPPEN

Rotary provides education, immunizations, birth kits, and mobile health clinics. Women are taught how to prevent mother-to-infant HIV transmission, how to breast-feed, and how to protect themselves and their children from disease.

“If mothers are empowered and healthy, so are their families, leading to an alleviation of poverty and hunger.” Robert Zinser, co-founder of the Rotarian Action Group for Population and Development and retired president for Asia at chemical giant BASF

INSPIRING STORY

RAMADAN 2023

In Rotaract, celebrating and recognizing various cultural and religious events has been a longstanding tradition to foster understanding and respect among its diverse membership. When it comes to Ramadan, Rotaract clubs have been actively engaged in numerous ways:

Cultural Awareness Sessions: Rotaract clubs have been organizing sessions or workshops where members and guests were invited to learn about the cultural significance of Ramadan. These included presentations about the history, customs, and values associated with the month.

Iftar Dinners: Hosting Iftar dinners, the meal that breaks the fast at sunset, has been one of the common ways Rotaract clubs have been engaging with and celebrating Ramadan. These events brought together members and guests, irrespective of their religious beliefs, for a communal meal and served as opportunities for bonding and sharing experiences.

Charitable Initiatives: In alignment with the spirit of charity that is an integral part of Ramadan, Rotaract clubs have been organizing food drives, charity fundraisers, and community service events. This has included distributing food packages to the underprivileged and raising funds for causes that align with the values of Ramadan.

Social Media Campaigns: Clubs also used social media to educate and engage a broader audience about Ramadan. They shared posts, videos, or stories that highlighted the significance of Ramadan and the activities carried out by the club.

Personal Reflection and Shared Experiences: Clubs encouraged members who observed Ramadan to share their personal experiences, thoughts, and reflections with the club, enriching the experience for all involved.

These activities reflected Rotaract's commitment to service, understanding, diversity, and community engagement. Through the participation and promotion of activities during Ramadan, Rotaract clubs have been celebrating the month and contributing to creating a more inclusive and empathetic society.

EASTER 2023

RAC Amman Jerash had a 2-day easter event in which they spent the first day coloring eggs followed by a game night club service. On day 2 they used the colored eggs to plan an egg hunt for Anjara kids (orphans) and spent the day with them playing and providing them with gifts and chocolates. The way these kids helped each other during the egg hunt was so heart warming and they were so happy that they all got to win and eat eggs that day
