THE DISTRICT CONFERENCE

JANUARY 2023 JANUARY 2023

District Conference Chair

Typically marking the end of our Rotaract Calendar year, the District Conference is a staple that we all look forward to. We are blessed in District 2452 to be a part of such a big Rotaract family, spanning across 9 different countries. This makes our District Conference, one to look forward to, its truly a remarkable time when all Rotaractors new and tenured come together in the host country, and build friendships, expand their networks, share a good time, but most importantly re-kindle their community devoted fire.

This year, we are truly honoured in the UAE, to be hosting our district’s exceptional fleet of Rotaractors for 3 days of District Conference and 2 Days of Post Conference, to showcase the culture, diversity, and development of our beloved home. We aim to do so by journeying our participants through the past, present and the future of Dubai.

To take a tour into the past, we will be visiting an expo-esque location in Dubai, known as Al Shandgha Museum, for a tour in 4 different houses that represent different aspects of Dubai’s culture and heritage. This visit will be introducing our participants to the humble beginnings of the UAE, the beautiful perfumes produced from Al Anbar and Al Oud, and its history of pearl divers and trade routes. As per District Conference formalities, the opening ceremony will also be taking place on the first day, featuring the flag ceremony, keynote speeches from notable members of Rotary and Rotaract in the UAE, and opening the discussion on the “Future of Volunteering” through a panel assembly.

“The present tour" is an adventurous, fun-filled activity day at the glorious Hatta Dam where our participants will get to enjoy the natural, less man-made side of Dubai We top off our present day with a celebratory evening at one of the most go-to venues in Dubai

THE DISTRICT CONFERENCE

On our final day of the District Conference, we will be visiting the 2022 most beautiful building in the world, the Museum of the Future, where we learn more about what the future holds for the UAE, and the developmental plans that have been scripted by the UAE leaders for Dubai and its sister emirates Just before the final day ends, our closing ceremony gala takes course, with a full-fledged evening of awards, celebrations, entertainment, and futuristic vibes

The post conference takes our participants to an entirely new Emirate, Ras AlKhaimah In the post conference, we aim to offer a therapeutic experience by ascending to the highest point in the UAE, Jebel Jais and admiring the bewildering views through a fun and thrilling ride on the Jais Sledder, one of the longest and highest roller coasters in the world Our participants will further enjoy the sought-after coastal beaches at Ras Al Khaimah, recovering from the fully occupied agenda of the District Conference

Conclusively, we believe our well-thought and planned agenda, will deliver one of the most exciting and memorable District Conferences, besides the fact that it will be the first Rotaract District Conference to take place in the UAE

Others finally found the time and space to do a long time and completely changed their field as a

We are all unique, there are no two similar individuals, even “identical twins” do not have the same fingerprints Moreover, our brains are also unique Dr Arlene Taylor, a professor at the prestigious Oxford University and Brain specialist explains how each brain has one or more bents, which are very unique and specific to each one of us. The way we think, the way we process our emotions and feelings, what our senses are exposed to as taste, smell and touch all shape our brain in a unique way. Each one of us has also a unique set of talents and gifts that he or she expresses in their own individuality.

What do I mean by passion? It is that natural skill or talent that comes very easy to you, that you are very good at doing, that you enjoy and love being immersed in doing endlessly, that you procrastinate other things to do it, moreover you feel energized after doing it! In opposition to a skill that you are very good at doing but do not necessarily enjoy yourself while at it.

Here are some questions that can help you identify your gifts and talents:

1)What did you enjoy the most during your childhood, it could be a game or simply a state of being, like wanting people to be happy, or maybe you liked to be around a lot of people, anything, what made you the most happy as a child?

2)What do people compliment you often on and to which you respond, naa… that is very easy yet they admire you for it? In my case, for example, foreign languages come very easy for me, I speak fluently 5+ languages and I can easily learn a new language in two months, it is something I really enjoy doing and I find it very easy Hence, when others look at me with surprised eyes I really don’t understand! So what is that thing or things for you that people praise you for but that comes very naturally to you?

3)What do you find yourself doing instead of working? This is huge!

4)If you were fully supported in all ways and means, if you had all the money of the world, and after ticking every single item on your bucket list what would you continue doing?

If you study the most successful and happy people in the world, you will notice that they have one common point: they live their passion, they share with us their special gift, their unique talent that is what makes them very successful! There are so many examples for them, now more than ever especially with the help of the digital age we are in it is more than ever easier to share our passions. Warren Buffet, 92 the famous American business magnate has been reading for decades daily for 6 hours about finance, investment, companies reports, even during his travels, he spends 80% of his time reading. He doesn’t need to do for the money, his assets and net worth are estimated at hundreds of billions, he does it because it is what he loves and enjoys!

Ikigai is a Japanese system or philosophy that means your reason for being, your bliss It is a kind of magic formula that enables you to fulfill your talent and to make a successful living out of it. How to find your ikigai:

What do you love doing?

What are you very good at doing?

The world needs it. You can get paid for it

To integrate your passion in your daily life and ultimately make it your profession or business you don’t need to start with a big investment nor to resign from your current job To the contrary. Start with the means available to you now! Every day or every weekend, however it works for you do an action towards your goal, while finding your passion is important, action is equally if not even more important. Without action your passion could stay just as a hobby and that’s fine if that is enough for you at this stage of your life. However, if you want to thrive every morning and live the life of your dreams, action is key. Consistency is key Commitment is key Small regular steps are more important than one big step without follow up How many famous and successful youtubers started from their bedroom with a basic mobile phone? How many writers? Artists, entrepreneurs, visionaries started with humble means from their parents’ car garage. Start with what is available for you right now, the rest will come your way. As you start walking the path appears. There is still so much to say about this fascinating subject, I trust that this article will trigger your curiosity to research more about it.

If you feel like you would like to discuss this amazing subject more for more clarity on how to find and connect to your passions, I am glad to offer a 30-minute complimentary coaching session for Rotaractors and Rotarians

Vocational Service Month

What your club can do in this month?

resent a vocational award to someone in the community who has exemplified outstanding professional achievement while maintaining very high ethical standards. Promote the presentation within the community and consider making it an annual January event.

Introduce a "mini classifications talk" series in which each member gives a five-minute talk on his or her vocation. Schedule one speaker for the beginning of each meeting until everyone has made a presentation. The purpose of these talks is to promote vocational awareness among Rotarians and help them recognize the worthiness of all useful occupations

Devote a meeting in January to examine the second Avenue of Service, including The Four-Way Test and The Declaration of Rotarians in Business and Professions. After expanding members' awareness, solicit their input in planning projects for the remainder of the year.

4. Work with local businesses to create mentorship, internship, or practicum opportunities to help young people achieve their career goals.

ART TO YOUR SOUL! ART TO YOUR SOUL! JACKSON POLLOCK JACKSON POLLOCK

Jackson Pollock, in full Paul Jackson Pollock, born January 28, 1912, Cody, Wyoming, U S died August 11, 1956, American painter who was a leading exponent of Abstract Expressionism, an art movement characterized by the freeassociative gestures in paint sometimes referred to as “action painting ”

BLUE POLES - JACKSON POLLOCK

Splashes of paint are intended to communicate to us the way he was feeling and thinking at the time he made the painting The twisted black poles can be interpreted as an allegory of human efforts to emerge from the chaos of life.

While Art is an expression of the Artist himself, it always leaves us with waves of Feelings, Emotions and Thoughts affecting us and most of the time leaving a mark.

Rotaract Club de Beyrouth organized a Perfumery 101 Workshop as part of their Teach N’ Learn series.

Given by their member Nour Sabra, owner of Essences, the session covered the basics of perfumery, the science behind the creation of perfumes, tips and tricks on perfume use, as well as a guide on how to choose one’s own signature scent. It was a very fun and interesting session, and many Rotaractors from different Clubs joined in. At the end of the session, each attendee created their own perfume using the basic ingredients and notes.

Each took their time in curating their ideal scent and trying out different ingredients. It was a session full of novelty and creativity!

To know that your homeland is in danger is terrifying And to understand that the situation affects the lives of children is even worse

Starting from Dec 12, 2022, the only road connecting Artsakh to the rest of the world is under blockade, and around 500 children without adult supervision, who were in Armenia at the moment, were unable to join their families and return to their homes. The news about this heartbreaking situation is all over the media as the blockade continues for more than 20 days. This situation upset us. However, then we got motivated by their thoughtful and hopeful letters and made the magic act. Simply imagining what those children are feeling away from their parents is terrifying. From the first day we learned about this situation, the Rotaract Club of Yerevan tried its best to support the kids in this difficult situation. After getting in touch with a part of those kids, the Rotaract Club of Yerevan received around 60 letters from them asking for a miracle from Santa. They were aged from 6 to 19 and to see that they were mostly asking for peace, broke us into pieces. They were writing to us without knowing what their letters would become, without hope that their wishes would be fulfilled.

ANUARY 2023 NUARY 2023

We have decided to reach out to all the kind people out there to make the magic accessible to those kids. We created a form for Rotaractors, Rotarians and everyone out there who would like to join our project. We assigned one kid to one of the Santas. After the assigned Santa received the letter, they spared no effort to make sure each kid received what they wholeheartedly wanted. They purchased and sent it to us, with a heartwarming message. We then took all the gifts and messages to the recipients and shared the warmth of their Santas with them. Although the action may not seem significant, while working on this project, we realized more and more how big of an impact it will have on the kids.

The whole concept of the project is within its name, “Magic in Action.” It is an excellent description of what we are doing: we are receiving the “magic” from the people who want to share it with the kids and basically sending it to them.

The idea of the project came to us when we learned that there are kids out there who will not be joining their families for New Year’s Eve. Still, it is unknown how long they will be separated from their loved ones, and this action was mainly done to minimize the stress and bad times that they are having away from their families . We also hope to light the fire in their hearts again as they are waiting for the roads to open.
