13th Year of Rotaract District 3292 "13th year- 13 Rotaractors" - This column features one Rotaractor per month.S/he will be mentioning 13 key individuals in their Rotaract journey. The featured Rotaractor is expected to write briefly about the individuals' defining qualities creatively and innovatively.

Rtr. Sabik Raj Neupane District Leadership Trainer RY 2020-22

Rtr. Sakar Khatiwada

RAC Kasthamandap The person who brought me to Rotaract. Besides his creativity, he has one prized possession i.e. his deadly laughter. So strong that it can resurrect a dead man. We were good friends before and the Rotaract further strengthened our bond.

Rtr. Sujan Devkota

RAC Kasthamandap What would you say about your brother? This guy has always been there through my thick and thin. Whether I was heartbreak or broke, he was there for me. Club Secretary during my Presidency, you cannot ask for anyone better than him.

Rtr.Pratikshya Rajopadhyaya

RAC Kasthamandap We share lots of commonalities. Both of us love writing. We also have this love for Game of Thrones. Dear Pratikshya, you are certainly my Khaleesi, for the fierce lady that would never take no for answer.

Rtr.Saugat Gautam

RAC Kathmandu Midtown Among everyone that I have mentioned until now, all of us share a common connection. All of us studied at St.Xavier`s College. Saugat dai has always been a role model for me and many others. Witty and sensible at the same time, mere words cannot express the radiance that this man posses. In fact, I am running out of adjectives. BTW , he would have been Tywin had this been Game of Thrones.

Rtr.Kritika Bhandari

RAC Kasthamandap Dear Kritika, If Pratikshya is my Khaleesi, you are certainly my Jon Snow for being the commander that we look upto when the night was dark. Elegance and grace have always been your defining qualities and you have always given us the surprises.

Rtr. Dr. Suyash Timilsina

RAC KMC They say “ Small is beautiful “ but i would say “ Bigger the merrier” (ofcourse !!! him being the big man ) . Mr. Rotaract is an absolute charmer. He is really humble and focused at the sametime. We share a great bond from the day we met and i hope this bond will get stronger.

Rtr. Sagar Malla Thakuri

RAC Thames International College He is King Jeoffrey (him being the babusahab from Bajhang ). We have always had moments of disagreements. We fight a lot. So much that , very often , my mom would ask me “ timro ra Sagar ko feri jhagada pareko ho “. But he is my go to man . Whether it's my triumph or moments of despair this guy has always been there.

Rtr. Sneha Shakya

RAC Patan South They say “ Great things come in small packages” , this lady is epitome to the very phrase. Bold with lady like charm, I have never seen someone work as meticulously as her. Having worked closely throughout her leadership, I would bluntly say , she has been the best among the leaders that we have seen.

Rtr. Sambid Ghimire

RAC Patan South Frankly speaking, I see my little brother in him. Our “ Conspiracy Theorist” is my go to man as well. Little rusty at times , this guy has abundance of knowledge. He is known for “ Thin Slicing” i.e. extracted important information out of comprehensive set of information.

Rtr.Peshal Bhattarai

RAC Patan Our pocket size Anil Kapoor, he is an absolute powerhouse. Relentless like machine , this guy can make things happen with an ease.

Rtr. Abin Tuladhar

RAC Newroad City One of the strongest bond that I have shared ( along with few bad habits) , this guy is a mystery in himself. Hardworking, funny, boring and irritating, this guy can make you sleep with his never ending monologues.

10

www.rotaract3292.org

Rtr. Anisha Joshi

RAC Reliance I would love to have both Sumit and you in the list. But since we cannot write about DRR and DRRE, consider I am writing about Sumit as well. There is no one as happy that I am for your union. I have seen my little sister in you. As promised before, i will teach your kids. lol .

Rtr. Shreni Rajbhandari

RAC Kasthamandap I have known her since 2016, and she has never failed to surprise me . Witty with her hindi accent ( which often goes wrong ) , this girl has everything than one needs to succeed in life.

RY-2020 is the thirteenth year of bifurcation, where the RID 3290 branched out, forming RID 3292 Nepal and Bhutan. Marking the 13th year of the Rotaract movement in Nepal, we will be highlighting 13 different zones and their clubs each month. ( Note that the names have been arranged as per your spellings and not on the basis of your importance in my life :P Cheers!!!!)

Rtr. Roshni Prajapati President RAC KUMS "Empowerment with Dignified Menstruation" I was 13 years old when I got my first period. Little did I know the vibrant color will be the symbol of renaissance. I was taught from the very beginning that red is the color of boldness that encapsulates our bodily strength, emotional intelligence and mental sanity. I was forcibly raised by the society to believe that a pint of blood signifies my worth, my consent and my dignity. I believed so. But when the dysmenorrhea shrank my strength when I tried to uplift myself, the hot water bag compressed my inner self and I was deemed to backpedal to my own bed missing my favorite class. Soon I started questioning my worth every time I got period. I still remember the unwelcoming tensions I had while I was packing my bag to go to Jumla with my father for the National Party Convention. I was worried that I would ruin that trip if I got

18

my period there. When we reached there, we stayed at a home of a mahila pratinidhi. Unfortunately my period got to happen there. And coincidently a girl who was living at that home seemingly of my own age also had her period and she was asked to leave that room while I was given the privilege to stay. That day I realized how my problem was so belittle and can be solved in comparison to these stereotypical norms and traditions. At the end of that Convention when only few speeches were left, I saw that Aunty who was a Mahila Pratinidhi who was making a phenomenal speech regarding the ideologies, constitution, political leverage and inclusive government ; but she didn’t mention anything about Women Rights, Women education and Women Health that would have actually made her speech inclusive to her own daughter and many other girls facing the minor problems that would no longer be restricted to being minor if some of these girls and women are still made to perform the back breaking tasks while they are on their period or their pregnancies. I was 14 when I came to know about Chaupadhi from my social teacher. I was 15 when I came to know that domestic vio-

lence prevails at my home as well. I was 19 when I joined Medical School. I was 20 when I came to know about the provisions of incentive for 4 ANC Visits by providing cash payment within the framework government of Nepal. I was 21 when I witnessed first preterm delivery and the postpartum depression associated with it. I came to know that cervical cancer is preventable if we can prevent early sexual intercourse, early age of first pregnancy, poor maintenance of social hygiene and having multiple sexual partners. I was 22 when for the first time I explored my own body for inserting a menstrual cup and I failed it for several times not knowing where to insert. So I started from our own club. We collaborated with Rotary Clubs for doing Global Grant Projects. We travelled to many areas of Kavre and taught many school girls about Women Reproductive Health, basic anatomy and basic hygienes that we need to maintain. I volunteered my teachers while doing Cervical Cancer Awareness Program. I along with my seniors started our own social venture called Project Women Hygiene for debunking the myths regarding menstruation, contraception and maternity. We felt so overwhelmed by the presence of few men who wanted to learn about this and teach their sisters, mothers and wives at their home. We felt so good when we realized how empowering it is to teach them and see them extending the non linear impact of educating others. We realized it is possible to inherit the change that we want to see in the society if we tend to work for it. Dignified menstruation and Maternal Health is not just for girls, women and transgender but also for boys, men or of any gender It is for everyone who believes in ensuring dignity, freedom and justice of a woman no matter whether she is in period or not. It is for everyone who believes in contributing to the holistic approach to address all kinds of violence, discrimination, abuses associated with menstruation from individual to nation, private to public and all. It is for everyone who do not believe in missing out dignity while intersecting menstruation with health, education, peace, empowerment, water, sanitation and environment. It is for everyone who wants to see the world having a positive attitude towards dignified menstruation and maternal health.
