Message from District Rotaract Representative Dear Rotaractors, Welcome to Rota Year 2019-20!

Rtr. Sneha Shakya

District Rotaract Representative Rotaract District Committee, Rotary International District 3292

Thank you for a very vibrant month of July with wonderful Rotaract moments and celebrations, marking the start of the year. A new year brings with it new energy, enthusiasm and excitement. As we step into this journey in the new Rota-year, it is important that we keep that energy high and going throughout the year, and spread it across our fellow members too! As we begin with Rota Year 2019-20, I am sure everyone is set with their goals and plans for the year. While you are on this journey, make sure to enjoy and make the best out of every moment! Let us proceed together in this journey, while keeping our focus on building Competence and Collaboration - ;Ifdtf / ;fem]bf/L! Also, let us bear in mind, RI President Rtn. Mark Maloney’s theme for Rota Year 2019-20 -“Rotary Connects the World”.

Complementing the District Theme “;Ifdtf / ;fem]bf/L Competence and Collaboration”, I urge all Rotaractors to dedicate this year to bettering ourselves so we can contribute more with our improved capabilities. Let us work towards fostering our skills and talents, towards growth and development, and towards building our own capacities. Also, let us also complement competence with collaboration. Let us work together in the process of bettering ourselves. Let us seek to collaborate with our fellow clubs, with Rotary Clubs, with different Districts, local clubs, organizations and different stakeholders alike - firstly to develop our competency and with that, help others in the process of becoming more competent! Let us collaborate also in service, to bring out synergic effects that make our actions more meaningful and impactful. As we approach the month of August, which is the Membership Month, let us reach out to more individuals who could be potential members in our clubs. Let us talk about Rotaract in our communities, how this platform has helped us grow as individuals and how it has enabled us to help others grow. Let us inspire more individuals to be a part of this family which has endless opportunities to learn, serve and share. Best wishes to all for a wonderful journey ahead! Let us achieve more together! Interview

rtn. anil shrestha, DRR 2007-08 1. How was your Rotaract life? How and why did you join and what made you continue? During my college days, I was searching for platform where like-minded young people coming together and doing some community based projects. Coincidently, a friend of mine invited me to join Rotaract Club. With lots curiosity, I joined Rotaract Club of Patan which is a community based club at Hakha Tole, near Patan Durbar Square during Rota Year 19992000 when our District used to be part of R I District 3290 comprised of West Bengal, Nepal & Nicobar Island. My Rotaract life was full of fun, excitement with immense learning about life skills that helped me to develop my personal & professional skills. Moreover, I got an opportunity to network with international friends, to get involved in Service projects and self-discovered my hidden talents which really made me continue with this movement.

2. How is life after Rotaract? After spending a decade in the Rotaract Movement and serving various key leadership position in District level such as Zonal Representative, District Secretary and District Rotaract Representative, I initiated Rotary E-Club of District 3292, Nepal with the help from other Ex-Rotaractors. This is only E-Club in our District 3292 which was sponsored by Rotary Club of Patan chartered on May 31, 2013 and I got privilege to become the Charter President of this unique Club which comprises of young professional from different walks of life. Now, I am proud Rotarian serving in Rotary District in the capacity of Assistant Governor of Zone 7 of R.I. District 3292, Nepal & Bhutan. Besides, serving as first DRR, I have served in the District as Rotary District Alumni Chair and District Rotaract Committee Chair for 2 terms. Therefore, I consider myself that I am still part of Rotaract Movement.

3. What golden eggs are you planning to carry throught your lifetime from Rotaract?

Throughout my lifetime, I will have always kept in mind that it is absolutely true that man is the architect of his own fortune. Every man gets the result to his own actions. If he is hard-working, he will be rewarded for it. If he is idle, he will have to suffer for his idleness. It is not the stars that decide our fate. It is we who are responsible for who we are.

4. Why do you think should youth join Rotaract ?

For the following reasons, why youth should join Rotaract:  To develop leadership & professional skills.  To expand the network of friendship worldwide.  To get involved in community based service projects & international service projects.  To experience the real life skills by learning by doing.  To be the responsible and active citizen of the community.

5. Since you were the first one to represent Nepal as a DRR, how did it feel? It was indeed a matter of great pleasure and honor to become the first one to represent Nepal as a DRR in Rota Year 2007-08, which is the last year of then R I District 3290 that comprises of parts West Bengal, Nepal & Andaman Nicobar Island. This was possible because of unity among the Rotaractors from Nepal. I felt privileged to get their kind support and cooperation which encouraged me to become a leader. So, I am grateful to each one of fellow Rotaractors.

6. How was your DRR year? My tenure as DRR in Rota year 2007-08 was challenging but at the same time it was a remarkable year. It was challenging because as a DRR I was responsible for the Rotaract Clubs from Kolkata in addition to Rotaract Clubs from Nepal. Rotaract Movement in Nepal was growing rapidly and we were able to draw kind attention from all part of Rotary World because we were united and all committed to strengthen the Rotary & Rotaract Movement. My DRR theme was “Together We Can Make A Difference” and I strongly believed we were successful to create the lasting positive impact by laying the strong foundation which resulted strong Rotaract Movement in Nepal.

7. What has been your most memorable moment in Rotaract? There are many memorable moments in Rotaract due of my long time association. I remember the exiting moment when I was declare the DRR in 34th Rotaract District Conference held in Kolkata where approximately 115 Rotaractors from Nepal participated to support my candidacy as DRR for Rota Year 2007-08. The whole journey in a group by road & train to Kolkata was full of fun and

enjoyment. Another moment that I cherished was the Group Study Exchange Program in Rota Year 2007. I got an opportunity to travel to Germany as only GSE team member from Nepal to RI District 1870. I attended New Orleans Rotary Convention 2011 and served as one of organizing committee member during Rotaract Preconvention. I represented the Rotaract to United Nations Youth Advisory Panel for two consecutive years in 2009 & 2010 in furthering the youth issues among the UN agencies in Nepal.

8. What should the new club leaders keep in mind while handing over and receiving responsibilities? The new club leaders should always keep in mind that leadership is not only a position or a title, it is the actions you take to set an example. Therefore, SMART Goal setting has to be done before staring the tenure. A proper term of references including roles & responsibilities should be provided to new club leaders so that they remain focus and don’t get deviate from the set goals. Timely

monitoring and evaluations help leaders to achieve the goals.

9. Where do you see Rotaract Nepal in the coming 10 years? In coming 10 years, I see most of Rotaractors will be joining Rotary Clubs and they really know how to work closely with Rotaract. Therefore, the Rotaract Movement will be scaling greater height in Nepal by setting example of true partner’s in service. Rotaract Nepal will be organizing more international events that address the issues of today’s young people in collaboration with local government and NGOs & INGOs. Also, Rotaract Nepal will be representing itself in various International Convention and will be playing a key role there. Through continuous Leadership training programs, more responsible community leaders shall be introduced who will be taking lead on long term Joint Service projects that address the needs of community. 10. Any message to our Rotaractors?

“You must be the change you want to see in the world.” by Mahatma Gandhi. .Enjoy Rotary !!! Enjoy Rotaract !!!
