Jr. Lifeguarding Camp

March 20-23

Ages 12-17

This 4-day camp allows local youth who are interested in lifeguarding a chance to experience a day in the life of a certified lifeguard. They will go through a modified lifeguarding course beginning with a Swim Assessment. If they successfully meet the requirements of the swim test, they move on to learn basic lifeguarding skills.

The curriculum consists of; how to recognize a distressed swimmer, how to rescue a distressed swimmer, how to preform CPR using an AED and Basic First Aid. They will learn to work as a team and how to aid in an emergency. The last day of the camp, they will shadow a Certified Lifeguard during a day shift. If the participants pass an ARC CPR w/AED and First Aid skills and written test, they will receive a certification for those skills.

The world’s oldest living cowboy tells, in story and song, of his years as a cowboy and his friendship with Billy the Kid. Stories of Billy are generally exaggerated. Ralph Estes’s program addresses the legend-making process while presenting the historically accurate story of Billy. A New Mexico Humanities Council Funded Program.
