As fall arrives, the temperatures outside will eventually begin to cool off a bit, but the lineup of activities offered by the City of Roswell’s Enrichment Services departments continue to heat up.

Whether you are looking to stay active in sports such as volleyball, basketball and running or walking, or would rather take a more leisurely pace of wandering through art exhibits and listening to related lectures at the museum, you can find offerings from the city that suit your taste. Maybe you have youngsters who would enjoy a demonstration of magic or dressing up for some Halloween fun at the library. And for the adults, a special event such as the Spring River Zoo’s OktoBEARfest may be what you’re looking for.

Afterschool Program Every Monday through Friday from 3:30 to 5:00 pm starting August 7.

Fee: $6 a day Ages: 5 - 12 Activities include homework and tutoring time, sports, arts and crafts, swimming, and gym time.

“Between the Lines” Adult Coloring This program occurs the 1st Tuesday of every month at 5:30 pm Dates: September 3, 2019, October 1, November 5, and December 3.

Free Program Ages: 18+ Color sheets and pencils are provided to help give adults the chance to unwind.

Stitcher’s Unite This event occurs the 2nd Saturday of every month from 9:00 to 11:00 am.

Dates: September14, October 12, November 9, and December 14.

Free Program Ages: 18+ Crotchet program for fiber artists to come together and add to a community blanket or learn to crochet.

Saturday STEM Dates: September 28, October 26, and November 23 at 2:00 pm.

Free Event Ages: 5 - 12 Join Peggy Bohlin to learn various STEM concepts through stories, experiments, and crafts! This event is sponsored by the Roswell Library Foundation.

SPRING RIVER ZOO

Preschool Kritter Program The 4th Friday of every month at 10:00 am.

Dates: September 27, October 25, November 29, and December 27.

Fee: $5.00, $3.00 for Friends of the Zoo Members Ages: 2-6 Zoo staff will introduce children to an animal, read a book about the featured animal, and help children complete a craft that includes the featured animal. *Parent must be present* Keeper Talk The 2nd Saturday of every month at 10:30 am.

Dates: September 14, October 12, November 9, and December 12.

Free Program All Ages This program offers spectators the chance to learn about the Zoo’s animals. A different animal is featured every month.

Throughout the night the Museum will be filled with free painting, drawing, and collage activities inspired by the exhibition Coloring Inside the Lines. Panel Discussion: “The Impact of De Jure Segregated Schooling in Southern New Mexico�

September 7 from 2:00 to 5:00 pm Free Program This is the conclusion of a two-part segment on the journey of African Americans in New Mexico presented in conjunction with the traveling exhibition The Virtue of Ownership: African American Homesteading in Southern New Mexico. Light refreshments will be provided.

Class Information Adult Clay: Plates to Platters Session 1: Tuesdays from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm Session 2: Tuesdays from 6:00 to 9:00 pm Session 3: Thursdays from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm Session 4: Thursdays from 6:00 to 9:00 pm Classes start September 10 and run until October 17.

Fee: $105 for Museum Members, $130 for non-members Ages: 18+ Sessions 2-4 are open to all skills levels,Session 1 is for intermediate to advanced students. Beginning students will complete projects designed for learning basic techniques.

Other students will learn to use decorating techniques such as marbling, transfers, stencils and carving.

Kids Clay- Session 1 Tuesdays from 3:30 to 4:30 pm Ages: 6-8 Kids Clay- Session 2 Tuesdays from 4:30 to 5:30 pm Ages: 9 to 18 Classes start September 10 and run until October 15.

Fee: $50 for Museum Members, $60 non-members Create one-of-a-kind clay pieces with instructor Aria Finch. Work on developing increased hand-eye coordination and confidence.

Exhibit Lecture and Reception Resident Artist: Erica Bailey September 20 from 5:30 to 7:00 pm Free Program Erica Bailey explores perception of time and space through dioramas and video installations.

The event includes a lecture and is followed by a reception in the gallery celebrating the exhibit opening.

Exhibition Reception: A Line in the Sand: Wildlife of the Borderlands November 8 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Free Event This exhibit explores the stories of the animals of expeditions in the 1800s, from the observations of early explorers to contemporary artistic representations of these same species. Information is provided on the current state of scientific knowledge about each and thoughts on how the changing nature of the border may affect the wildlife living along it.

Class Information Printmaking: Meaning in Multiples Tuesdays and Thursdays (except Thanksgiving week) from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on November 5 until December 5 $75 for Museum Members, $95 for non-members Ages: 16+ Join instructor Bailey Coll to connect to the past and carve woodblock relief prints, then create a series of prints. Carving tools and basic safety talk will be covered. Class is geared for beginning print students.

In Your Element November 16 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm $35 for Museum Members, $45 for non-members Ages: 9-12 Join instructor Bailey Coll to focus on 4 basic elements of art: color, line, shape and texture. Students will explore these 4 elements through a series of projects.
