HOW YOU CAN HELP Arbor Day Seedling & Tree Giveaway April 13 | Free

9:00am - 11:00am

The City of Roswell’s Keep Roswell Beautiful program will help local residents celebrate Arbor Day by handing out tree and shrub seedlings for citizens who wish to plant them in their yards or other properties.

This is a free event that will offer seedlings on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.

The tree and shrub types being given away, as well as the number of seedlings offered per person, will vary based on the available supply. The seedlings are types that are well adapted to this area and usually do well in this region.

Those attending the event will also receive a reusable car trash container provided by the New Mexico Department of Transportation’s Toss No Mas program, a box of LED light bulbs donated by Xcel Energy, and a Keep Roswell Beautiful reusable shopping tote.

The Keep Roswell Beautiful Cleanup Kit can be checked out at the Roswell Public Library during hours of operation. 301 N. Pennsylvania Ave. Return your tracking card, five-gallon bucket, trash grabber and safety vest when you’ve completed your cleanup.

Keep Roswell Beautiful’s program coordinator is available to give interactive presentations to schools, individual classes or groups about the impact of plastics and litter on the environment and simple choices that make a big difference.

Planetarium Day: Look to the Sky

Second Saturdays are our monthly free days for Roswell residents and take place the second Saturday of every month. Free familyfriendly art or science activities, sponsored by the RMAC Foundation, are presented from 10 am to 1 pm and there is a free planetarium show at 11 am. Admission is free all day from 10 am to 6 pm for residents, and nonresidents may participate in activities with paid admission.

This after-school course will introduce students to working with hand-building and the basics of sculpting with clay.

Students will end the class series with their own handmade pieces. Supplies are included.

Eight-week classes are offered quarterly for adults for the exploration of the clay medium. The clay studio is wellequipped for both hand-building and wheel-throwing. Firsttime students are always welcome and are provided with a series of hand-building projects to develop confidence in the medium over time. This quarter, students will build connected vessels. Making multiple forms allows one to join them together for a playful improvisational outcome.

Finished pieces can be both sculptural and functional.

Sessions 1-3 are taught by Aria Finch and Session 4 is taught by Michael Beitz. All sessions include additional open studio time. Clay and tools are available for purchase.

$3-$5, Museum Members Free The Robert H. Goddard Planetarium is home to a state-of-the-art, full-dome digital theater system.

Planetarium shows are presented Tuesday through Thursday and Saturday at 1, 3 and 5 pm. Each show includes a full-dome film accompanied by a star presentation. Programs last approximately 45 minutes. Check website for show details.
