We all love a good pumpkin patch during the fall, but have you ever been to one in a pool? Kids can pick out their own pumpkin and decorate it in the craft room. The first pumpkin is $12 and $1 for each additional (up to six per family). Takes place at the Recreation & Aquatic Center.

The Roswell Adult Center is hosting a Locals Craft Bazaar. Come show off your talents and maybe make a little extra holiday money. This event is inside. Rental includes one 8 ft table and two chairs.

Join us at the Roswell Adult Center for the festive Reindeer Run! Whether you’re a seasoned runner or looking for a fun way to get into the holiday spirit, this event offers both 5K and 10K options to suit all fitness levels. We encourage you to dress in your most festive holiday attire and enjoy a scenic route, holiday music and a cheerful atmosphere.

Online registration ends December 13 at noon. Race day registration will be 6:30am-7:30am (Cash and checks only on race day).

This class helps young children between the ages of 6 months and 3 years become comfortable in and around the water so that when the time comes, they will be ready for learn-to-swim classes. In addition to enjoying the water with their children, parents learn about water safety and how to handle their child in and around the water. This class in not designed to teach children to become good swimmers or survive in the water on their own. Formal swim lessons should start around 3 to 4 years old.

Sharks - Ages 6-12. Swim lessons are for children with some experience in the water independently. Floating without support, must know how to recover to a vertical position after entering the water on their own.

PRIVATE SWIM LESSONS

All Ages | $90

Whether you are seeking lessons for a beginner swimmer, or looking for stroke refinement, private swim lessons are designed to meet your needs and personal goals. During the first private swim lesson, a swim instructor will do an assessment and discuss the best possible direction for each individual’s private swim lesson experience to be successful and enjoyable.

Private Swim Lessons are scheduled during regular shifts with a limited number of certified instructors. Lessons consist of six 45-minute one-on-one sessions. Please contact us for availability. 575-624-6719

Once an instructor is assigned, you may pay the $90 fee in person or via phone for your lessons.

Dribble and score in this fun-filled Youth Basketball League! Our sports leagues are designed to teach the fundamentals. This is a great way for children to get exercise, learn balance, hand-eye coordination, strategy and social skills all while having fun. In this league, every player is a winner.

Age of registration will be based on age as of December 2024.

Tap dance sharpens reflexes and improves memory skills and coordination. Beginning classes will work toward establishing fundamental tap movements, vocabulary and will work on basic rhythms and steps that progress into fun and lively dance combinations.

Great for seniors and adults of all ages. Small-group personal training consisting of a dynamic warm-up, aerobic exercise, resistance training, and a static cooldown. Helps with your cardio strength, endurance, flexibility and balance.

STRETCHING

Loosen those muscles and joints from head to toe with some relaxing guided stretches. Pairs well with Senior Workout!

Yoga enthusiasts of all levels are welcome. Learn some of the most common poses that are physically challenging, but at a slower pace for beginners.

Visit all seven of Roswell’s incredible museums and see their diverse exhibitions and collections during Museum Day Roswell 2024. Also, view quilts inspired by the Roswell Museum’s collection and made by members of the Pecos Valley Quilters and visit “Quilting Connections 2024” Quilt Show and Sale at the Roswell Convention Center.

OCT 12 - ROSWELL SCIENCE AND ART FESTIVAL

The Roswell Science and Art Festival returns for a fifth year of all-ages fun and learning. This free community event is presented by the Roswell Museum in collaboration with local and regional educational, science and cultural leaders. We invite you to come explore this year’s theme of land stewardship through ecological, social and cultural perspectives.

NOV 9 - COLOR POWER

This month’s project celebrates the power of color! Inspired by the work of Jane Abrams, elements of light and textures will be our starting point. We will use dark papers and bright tempera and oil pastels to bring imagined flora and landscapes to life.

DRAWING & PAINTING THE FIGURE

Learn to depict the human figure. Study proportion and musculature. Drawing exercises will be followed by painting from a live model (clothed or costumed). Render light and shadow to create a convincing human form with watermixable oil paint. Supply list available at registration.

Join a group of people wanting to improve their drawing skills while enjoying the outdoors and sharing ideas. Let nature boost your engagement and enlarge your focus! We’ll explore an unusual variety of drawing materials, as well as add words/ phrases to drawings. Instructor will demo techniques to spark ideas. First class will meet at the Roswell Museum. Bring a hard cover sketchbook at least 9” x 12” that will open flat, and be prepared to work outdoors.

Public Artist Talk

Saturday, September 14, 4:30pm

Open to all skill levels, learn a variety of Shibori techniques to fold, clamp, wrap, stitch and dye fabric in indigo dye vats to create beautifully patterned fabrics. Both demonstrations and hands-on projects will provide a foundation for in-class and future projects. All supplies included.

Our 8-week classes are offered quarterly for adults for the exploration of the clay medium. The clay studio is wellequipped for both hand-building and wheel-throwing. This session, intermediate to advanced students will learn a multifiring and overglazing crackling technique developed by artist Andy Nasisse. All sessions include additional open studio time. Clay and tools are available for purchase. *First-time students are required to take the Monday night, Foundations in Clay class and are provided with a series of hand-building projects to develop confidence in the medium.

MOLD-MAKING & CASTING FOR SCULPTURE & CERAMICS

September 10 - October 29

This 8-week class is an introduction to mold making for casting a variety of materials. We will focus on learning how to make both rubber and plaster molds. Various measuring and mixing techniques, planning, and preparation for molding and casting will be addressed.

Students will make a multiple-part plaster mold for slip casting or press molding as well as a multiple-part rubber mold for casting other materials, such as concrete, wax, plastic, etc. Supply list available at registration.

The Roswell Museum and Pecos Valley Potters Guild invite you to step into a world of creative wonder this holiday season at the fourth annual Holiday Artisan Market. Held at the Roswell Museum, this opportunity to shop for distinctive, artistmade gifts will kick off with an opening night gala on Saturday, November 9, and the show will run through December 31. Check the website for more information and how to apply to be an exhibiting artist (deadline September 6).

Opening-night ticket sales will begin in late September.
