DESIGN WORKS PROGRAM : BARCH + MARCH DATED : 2015-2023

SPLENDID RAY is a community that supports, cares for, and protects its inhabitants, mainly refugees and homeless of all ages. Around 3.5% of the world’s population crosses their country, and during the asylum-seeking journey, exposure to stress affects their mental health and well-being in the long term. Furthermore, Depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder are prevalent in the migrant population.

PROGRAM : MARCH + HEALTH DATED : MAY 2023 FOURTH SEMESTER INDIVIDUAL PROJECT

Research shows that displacement leads to rootlessness, fostering mental health issues like PTSD, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia, which are prevalent among people experiencing homelessness. RAY provides users with spaces for rooting themself in the place and supporting each other for mutual growth. Additionally, SPLENDID RAY will be a new architectural language for spatially underprivileged and promote the abolishment of unhealthy spatial practices.

The structural system embodies the concept of sharing and mutual support, where neighboring members both support and are supported by each other. This creates a structural hierarchy with equal importance, achieved through twisted and mirrored beams, alternating between compression and tension.

PROGRAM : MARCH + HEALTH DATED : NOVEMBER 2023 FIFTH SEMESTER TWO PERSON GROUP PROJECT My role in this project included collaborating on all project stages, specifically the conceptual ideas, master planning, and sustainable strategies. I lead the project regarding healthcare planning and digital modeling using Revit and Rhino.

POOLING

A COMMUNITY HOSPITAL AND HEALTH CAMPUS

Water has always been intertwined with human existence, serving as a life-giving element. However, modern healthcare has moved away from natural healing methods. What used to be an emphasis on salutogenesis now gives priority to pathogenesis - treating disease rather than preventing it. “Pooling” represents an attempt to embrace the healing power of water and create a space that offers respite and a sense of community where people of all backgrounds can experience its therapeutic benefits.

Harnessing energy and collecting water not only benefits humans but also supports the overall well-being of interconnected ecosystems. Vertical water collection systems on buildings feed into a natural filtration strategy using native plants and sediment, ensuring water quality. This collected water serves a community swimming pool, while a testing system maintains its quality for all organisms. The emphasis on pooling helps protect endangered species like the Carolina Heelsplitters, crucial for water purification. In contrast, large building footprints disrupt natural habitats. Pools created for water collection become habitats for species, promoting environmental awareness and fostering community connections in a rapidly growing area.

PROGRAM : MARCH + HEALTH DATED : DECEMBER 2022 THIRD SEMESTER THREE PEOPLE GROUP PROJECT My role in this project included collaborating on all stages of the project, specifically the conceptual ideas, master planning, healthcare Planning, and renderings, But solely creating a sustainable facade and Roof through an iterative process of making physical and digital models with care for detailing.

INTERWOVEN WILMINGTON, NC

The Scotts Hill Community in Wilmington, NC, faces healthcare and living resource disparities, with a divided population due to Highway 17. High obesity rates persist, and the proposed East Coast Greenway could boost tourism and economic growth if safety concerns for pedestrians and cyclists are addressed.

A master plan proposes a 150-bed hospital as the community anchor on a greenfield site prone to hurricanes and heavy rain. The plan integrates with the landscape, preserving a wetland for sustainability and community use. Based on a NOVANT Health project, the hospital includes inpatient services, imaging, diagnostics, rehabilitation, emergency care, and surgery. The design challenges the separation of healthcare and community by incorporating public amenities and courtyards.

Wilmington’s humid subtropical climate poses challenges to outdoor activity. The proposed interwoven pathway aims to mitigate harsh weather, fostering an active lifestyle and community well-being.

The Interwoven facade reduces solar radiation through horizontal louvers and green panels, while maximizing winter daylight through the semi transparent solar panels.

The design concept aimed to incorporate the element of time in the creation of time-sensitive spaces, with the fourth dimension influencing the building’s form—referred to as Space-Time.

PROGRAM : BARCH

In the initial phase, the focus was on recognizing the critical non-visible layers of healthcare. Subsequently, in the second phase, efforts were directed towards connecting all these fundamental layers to produce the three-dimensional structure.

DATED : APRIL 2020 - THESIS INDIVIDUAL PROJECT Chosen as one of six projects out of 120 entries to compete at the national-level thesis competition in the undergraduate school.

This thesis aims to investigate the potential of architecture in saving lives. The primary goal was to pinpoint and examine a problem leading to fatalities and address the issue through architectural interventions.

The design idea started with identifying the community and individual health elements in architecture and prioritizing the user’s needs to pin down the program. Connecting the site’s potential (Lake view) to the program helped to generate the form of the building.

PROGRAM : MARCH + HEALTH DATED : DECEMBER 2021 FIRST SEMESTER INDIVIDUAL PROJECT

The proposed Wellness and Meditation Center is meant to provide a place where students can relax between classes and find services intended to prevent such issues as anxiety and depression from escalating to more clinical levels.

This semester’s project was critical for designing and manipulating light, space, and architectural meaning.

Other objects were : Design the landscape and urban design elements that connect the building to the campus. Understand the topography, how this impacts the building site, and represent it. Design a building that will be seen from all sides.
