CENTRE

Rosewood Arts Centre is a unique community program and facility located in Kettering, Ohio. A division of the City of Kettering’s Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts, Rosewood presents opportunities for the public to experience the visual and performing arts. Over 350 classes are offered annually for youth and adults as well as gallery exhibitions, theater performances, drop-in facilities, artist studios, and special events.

SIGNING INTERPRETER AVAILABLE The City of Kettering Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department is pleased to offer a signing interpreter for hearingimpaired patrons who want to take a class at Rosewood Arts Centre or the Kettering Recreation Complex. MEETING SPACE AND ROOM RENTAL Rosewood Arts Centre provides facility rentals for various events, meetings and programs. For more information about facility rentals, please call (937) 296-0294.

CLASS CANCELLATION Rosewood Arts Centre reserves the right to cancel any class and to substitute faculty when necessary. Classes will be canceled three working days prior to the starting date when there is insufficient enrollment.

ARTIST STUDIOS Artist studios are available at Rosewood Arts Centre and applications are accepted on a rolling basis and reviewed as studio spaces become available. Spaces are available for artists with an active practice and a commitment to sharing their work with the Kettering community. Studio spaces are $85/month for Kettering residents and $130/month for non-residents. For more information about artist studios, please contact Rosewood at (937) 296-0294.

OPEN STUDIOS Open studio sessions allow artists the opportunity to work on their own in an equipped creative environment. The studios are available when classes are not in session. Call (937) 2960294 to learn available hours and any necessary orientation or pre-requisites.

VISITOR POLICY: All participants and observers must pay open studio fees to stay longer than 15 minutes. Children under 5 years old are not permitted in open studio. Those under 16 must be supervised by an adult 21 years of age or older (no more than two children per adult). All studio patrons, including currently enrolled students, must sign in and pay fees at the Rosewood office. All open studio work-in-progress may not be left more than 30 minutes unattended.

STUDENT POLICY: Adult students currently enrolled in studio classes will receive a student pass card for four sessions of studio time. Students staying over 30 minutes after the end of class must sign in and use this pass card.

OPEN STUDIO FEES: Pottery – Sculpture – Painting – Enameling – Glass – Dance Drop-in fee per visit: $4/resident; $8/non-resident; Open Studio Pass (10 visits): $30/resident; $60/non-resident.

Supplies are not included in open studio fees.

LOCKER RENTAL: Lockers are available for rental on a pre-pay six-month or yearly basis. Six-month: $20/resident; $25/nonresident; Yearly: $35/resident; $45/non-resident.

POTTERY STUDIO: Clay fee of $19 includes 25 pounds of clay and related firing and glazes. Only clay purchased at Rosewood may be used in our studios and firings. Clay purchased at Rosewood may not be removed from the facility for work at home. You must supply your own tools. The studio is designed as a community facility and, as such, is not equipped to accommodate production pottery quantities. All open studio and private studio users are limited to three (3) cubic feet per week of kiln use. Unclaimed pieces left after 30 days will be discarded. Attendance at a free pottery studio orientation is required of all first-time participants.

DARKROOM: Participants must be at least 16 years old, demonstrate previous experience in black and white darkroom processes, and attend a Rosewood orientation session. Check at the Rosewood office for more information on eligibility or for the orientation schedule and to make an appointment.

Darkroom fee per visit: $5/resident; $10/non-resident; Open Studio Pass (10 visits): $35/resident; $70/non-resident.

Reminder: Discount Cards must be processed by the individual holder. Discount Cards are for individual use only and not to be shared among friends or family.

YOUTH/TEEN CLAY From preschool clay classes to classes for teens to classes for parents and kids together, there is something perfect for everyone in the Rosewood ceramic studio.

Watercolor, acrylic paint, colored pencil, and more are tools for young people to develop their creative side in our painting and drawing classes.

The Kettering Children’s Choir The Kettering Children’s Choir was founded in 1986 and now includes over 200 singers from the Greater Dayton region, ages 8 through 18. The Choraleers, Chorus, Chorale, and Concert Choir sing music of all periods and types, from Renaissance to contemporary, and rehearse weekly at Rosewood Arts Centre.

Basic Theatre Instruction Age(s) 9 – 15 This class provides instruction in the basic theatre skills of pantomime, movement, voice and diction, improvisation, script work, audition techniques and performing a monologue.

Advanced Theatre Instruction Age(s) 9 – 14 This course builds on the skills gained in Basic Theatre Instruction. We will focus on proper breathing techniques, voice projection, speech and diction exercises, audition techniques (including selection and preparation of individual audition pieces), developing a character, and performing a short play. The final play will be performed before an audience. Enrollment is limited to 12 to allow for the depth of work required. Prerequisite: Basic Theatre Instruction. This is a prerequisite for the Kettering Children’s Theatre.

Dance classes, such as Ballet, Tap, Jazz and Modern are conducted in the Rosewood Arts Centre dance studio. Street shoes are not allowed on the dance studio floor. Slippers or socks with treads are safer than socks. Tap shoes or hard-soled shoes are required for tap. Leotards and tights are optional.

Wear comfortable clothing that will allow you to move easily.

Leather-soled shoes are best for Ballroom Dance classes, held at the Charles I. Lathrem Senior Center.

Dance students will be in class without parents.

Please be sure your child can participate independently.

Beginning Dance for the Very Young Age(s) 3 – 5 We’ll combine ballet, jazz and tumbling basics in this 45-minute class.

Comic Book Studio Day Saturday, April 12 Rosewood Arts Centre Comic Book Studio Day is back! Rosewood Arts Centre is partnering with the Gem City Comic Con to present the second annual Comic Book Studio Day. This series of 90-minute workshops, led by professional illustrators and writers will teach you the basics of comic book creation.

The day will include workshops for adults and workshops designed just for kids. A group of comic artists will demo their artwork from Noon to 1 p.m. We will end the day with digital coloring.

ADULT/TEEN CERAMICS Clay classes at Rosewood are perfect for beginners, intermediate and advanced students. Develop your hand building and wheel throwing techniques, and explore glazes and surface treatments unique to your project!

Hand Building Age(s) 16 + This is a beginning class for those with little or no hand building experience. Instruction will be given for making tiles, vessels and sculptural forms with slabs and coils of clay.

In this introductory course, you will get a "taste" of stained glass.

Students will make a small glass window project. Emphasis will be on tool mechanics, principles and techniques of glass cutting. The students will also learn pattern making, lead assembly, soldering, glazing and hanging the finished project.

Creating recycled art sculptures inspired by the book, The Repurposed Library.

City of Kettering residents will be given preference until Monday, March 17. All registrations (resident and non-resident) received after March 17, will be processed by date received.

3. DROP-OFF (check / credit card / money order / household balance) Registration drop boxes will be available at the Kettering Recreation Complex and Rosewood Arts Centre for those who wish to drop off their registrations instead of using the mail. Drop-off registrations will be handled just like those that are mailed.

4. FAX (credit card / household balance) Complete the registration form, include payment information and fax the form to the Kettering Recreation Complex (937) 296-3297 or Rosewood Arts Centre (937) 296-3289. Faxed registrations will be processed on exactly the same schedule as the registrations that are mailed in or dropped off. Note: See below for validating residency status.

Note: In order to receive resident rates on a phone-in registration, you must have a current resident I.D. card or activity pass. On-Line Registration Begins Monday, March 10 for Kettering Residents!

Customer Reward Program We’ve redesigned our Customer Rewards Program to provide residents and non-residents with immediate savings. Our new program gives you an immediate 10% discount when you sign up for classes during the first two weeks of registration. This exciting new program begins with the Spring 2014 season.

Beginning January 2014, Kettering residents will no longer accrue reward points when registering for classes. Additionally, any points you currently have will expire December 31, 2014.
