Natural Areas: A Shared Responsibility Roseville is home to more than 3,000 acres of natural areas/open space that provide cleaner air, wildlife habitat, access to nature, preserved land for future generations and enhanced property values. These spaces are a vital part of our community, and Parks, Recreation & Libraries (PRL) is responsible for their protection and maintenance.

Whether you live near a natural area or simply enjoy the benefits they provide, we appreciate your support in helping to keep them healthy and sustainable by following these requirements: Enjoy the space – Use designated trails for recreation and observe wildlife from a respectful distance.

Keep it natural – Dumping of yard waste, grass clippings, branches, trash or dirt is not permitted in natural areas.

Let it grow wild – Do not plant trees, shrubs, gardens etc. and do not install irrigation systems in natural areas.

Preserve the natural landscape – Fences, sheds, walkways, stairways, play structures and other modifications are not permitted.

Protect the ecosystem – Keep pesticides, fertilizers and other chemicals away from these areas to maintain a healthy environment.

By respecting these requirements, we can protect the natural beauty and ecological health of Roseville’s natural areas for generations to come.

No storage or parking – Vehicles, trailers, equipment and personal items are not permitted in natural areas.

Prevent water runoff – Draining pools or ponds into natural areas and excessive irrigation runoff can damage fragile ecosystems including vernal pools.

Report issues – If you see illegal dumping, vandalism, structure installation/placement or other concerns, please report them at myRSVL.com. We will inspect and address issues as needed. Some natural elements, like downed trees, are often left undisturbed to support wildlife habitat, provided they do not pose a significant safety risk.

Fireworks

Join us @the Grounds for fireworks. Gates open at 4:00pm and the show begins at approximately 9:30pm. Free admission, but $15 for parking. Parking is limited so shuttling is highly encouraged.

Time for a Parade The parade begins at 9:00am at the Vernon/ Douglas/Riverside intersection, continuing down Vernon, right on Lincoln Street and right on Park Drive. Be sure to arrive early to get your preferred viewing spot.

United By Art Blaster Blitz

Concerts On The Square

All ages Grab the fam and get ready for an epic foam dart battle. Enjoy music, vendors, food and a variety of challenges leading to the coolest showdown around. This event is designed for families to compete together, all attendees must register. Space is limited, so don't miss out!

The Evolution Of Vernon Street Town Square

Located in the heart of downtown, Vernon Street Town Square is now one of the city’s most active and recognizable gathering places. Designed as a welcoming civic hub, the square reflects both Roseville’s deep historical roots and its ongoing commitment to creating spaces shaped by and for the community.

The story of Vernon Street Town Square is closely tied to the development of Vernon Street itself, which emerged as Roseville’s primary commercial corridor in the early 1900s following the arrival of the Southern Pacific Railroad. As the city grew around the railroad industry, downtown Vernon Street became a center of commerce and local life. Over time, changing development patterns left the area in need of reinvestment.

In the 1980s, the City of Roseville began long-term efforts to revitalize its downtown core, recognizing the importance of a strong city center to the community’s identity and economic health. A key milestone came in 2002 with the $4.2 million Vernon Street Streetscape Improvement Project. Spanning eight blocks, the project reintroduced character and walkability through street trees, pedestrian amenities and historically inspired design elements, helping set the stage for future public spaces.

That momentum peaked with the opening of Vernon Street Town Square in August 2013, adjacent to the Civic Center. From the beginning, the square was envisioned as a flexible, inclusive space that could host both large-scale events and everyday use.

Community involvement helped shape the square’s identity, including a public naming contest that selected the name “Vernon Street Town Square.”

“We wanted to create a space that truly belonged to the community,” said Dominick Casey, Roseville City Manager.

“This wasn’t just about building a plaza, it was about honoring Roseville’s history and giving people a place where they could naturally come together.”

The square’s design supports that vision with features that invite year-round use. A shaded performance stage anchors popular gatherings such as the Concerts On The Square and Wine Down Wednesday series. During the winter season, the square transforms into a festive focal point for the Downtown Holiday Celebration, complete with the annual Christmas Tree Lighting that draws the community together. One of the square’s most beloved features, the spray ground, becomes a summertime destination for families looking to cool off and play.

Explore the rich history of the Nisenan Maidu people and the land they called home for thousands of years. Bring a snack and water, and wear closed-toe shoes and clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. Don’t forget a hat and sunscreen.

Eco-Innovators Camp: Tools & Tech Inspired by Nature

Eco-Creators Camp: Art, Nature & Design

Ages: 5–12 Blending creativity, STEAM learning and modern outdoor know-how, this hands-on camp explores simple tools, problem-solving and nature-inspired design. Practice ageappropriate outdoor skills such as basic compass reading, knot tying and directionfinding, then create your own sundials, cordage and simple fishing hooks using safe, eco-friendly materials.

Fee: $185 / 175 Museum Members Discount

Ages: 5–12 Have fun at a playful, nature-inspired art camp where imagination and creativity lead the way.

Dive into hands-on projects like seed balls, nature sketching, jewelry making, macramé and clay sculptures, with each activity designed to spark curiosity and sensory exploration. Open-ended projects allow every age group to engage meaningfully at their own level, using natural and recycled materials to create unique works of art.

When the school day winds down and the last Adventure Club activity wraps up, Chantal Udasco Bagley doesn’t stop creating. She simply changes materials.

Tying it all together

By day, she supervises Adventure Club programs, guiding staff and shaping meaningful experiences for kids. Off the clock, she immerses herself in what she calls “fiber art.” “Fiber art is created with synthetic and natural materials such as cloth, cotton, yarn, cord,” she explains. “I use these materials with textile methods to Macramé, weave, tie dye and much more.”

For Chantal, creating is a reminder of what we are capable of. “I really believe we’re meant to create,” she says. “There’s something empowering about looking at your art and saying, ‘I made that. I created that.’”

That philosophy carries directly into her leadership at Adventure Club. A former elementary school teacher with a master’s degree focused on arts in education, Chantal is passionate about keeping creativity alive for kids. “With art, they get a chance to be in charge and make the decisions” she says. “I encourage them to break the rules when learning materials. We don’t know what materials will do until we experiment with them.”

Her creative roots trace back to childhood. She learned alongside her grandmother, who sewed and welcomed Chantal’s help at the table. Store bought craft kits brought joy, and in high school she made friendship bracelets for classmates. “I loved making things,” she says. “And giving them to people as gifts.”

As adulthood took over, she drifted away from creating. In 2019, she made a conscious decision to return to it. “I realized that I stopped making art,” she says. “I forgot how important it is to connect with my inner artist.”

Macramé drew her in because it felt familiar. “It’s similar to making friendship bracelets, the art of making fancy knots with patterns.” She started with small projects like keychains and plant holders, then dove deeper during the pandemic, experimenting with pom poms & tassels, weaving and fiber dye techniques.

One of her proudest accomplishments now hangs on the wall of her home, a large freestyle woven piece she recently completed. “It’s a reminder for me,” she says. “I’m an artist and what I am capable

She sees her team much like she sees her materials. “Everyone is very unique and brings a different gift to the table,” she says. “I can bring those together to make this a phenomenal program.”

Whether she is reviving friendship bracelet making or organizing a tie dye station for staff, her goal is the same. Create space for joy, expression and connection. “You get to be playful and feel like a kid again,” she says. “It’s that moment of knowing you brought something beautiful to the world.”

In many ways, her art mirrors her work at Adventure Club, thoughtful, imaginative and centered on connection. In both spaces, she is guided by the same philosophy: “We’re meant to create.”

Since 1979, Kidz Love Soccer has been dedicated to teaching children the world’s most popular sport within a nurturing, recreational environment.

The team may be small, but its impact reaches across the entire city. “We have four full-time staff,” said Sports Manager Rob Nakamura.

“And then depending on the season, up to 40 or 50 part-time staff.”

Together, they manage an impressive lineup of facilities and programs: the Placer Valley Soccer Complex, citywide field allocations and rentals, adult sports leagues, the Denio disc golf course, the courts at Gibson Park pickleball facility and the city’s two golf courses.

Behind the scenes, the work is constant. Each year, the team coordinates space for roughly 6,000 soccer players and 3,500 baseball and softball players through the Youth Sports Coalition. That means balancing schedules, working with user groups and ensuring fields are ready for thousands of families who rely on them every season.

While youth leagues operate their own programs, Roseville runs one of the largest adult sports programs in the Sacramento area.

“We offer five adult sports: flag football, soccer, softball, basketball and volleyball,” said Sports Supervisor Dustin DiPlacito. “No one else offers all five of those in-house.”

With more than 20 leagues and hundreds of teams throughout the year, the program serves everyone from young professionals to senior softball players in their 70s and 80s. “It doesn’t matter what you want to do,” DiPlacito said. “Whether you’re five years old just starting out, or 80 years old playing senior softball, we provide an opportunity to get out and play.”

That opportunity expanded in a big way with the opening of the 10-field Roseville Soccer Complex. Designed to host competitive play and tournaments, the complex is already drawing teams from across the region and beyond. “It’s actually really cool to see everyone using this facility,” Nakamura said.

Looking ahead, the Sports Section is focused on reinvesting in aging amenities to ensure Roseville’s fields, courts and courses remain some of the best in the area for years to come.

At its heart, the mission remains simple. “I think at the end of the day, our team’s about letting the public get out and be active,” DiPlacito said. “Health and wellness, being outside, that’s what it’s all about.”

PRL Scholarship Program Parks, Recreation & Libraries offers a scholarship program to Roseville residents to provide access to programs who would otherwise not be able to participate due to financial limitations.

The scholarship amount of $200 received may be used on multiple programs. Recipients will be required to pay 10% of each program at the time of registration, with the remaining amount supported by the scholarship funds. Scholarships may be used for Roseville Parks, Recreation & Libraries programs only and cannot be used toward childcare/preschool, birthday parties, facility/event admission, trips, snack bar, fines, golf or facility rentals.
