Kris’ Corner It is not even noon yet and I’ve already had a long and frustrating day. Today is one of those days where nothing seems to go right. When I got to work, I was printing four different flyers and only the first and fourth flyer printed. I tried to print the second and third flyer and only the third flyer printed. I gave up. I went to pull together the supplies for a class that I ordered and received months ago, but they were missing. I had to run to Michael’s to get them again. I then received a call from my adult daughter that she was getting sick and she did not like my suggestion that maybe she should skip camping this weekend. In the moment, I decided to stop at Arby’s and pick up lunch instead of eating the lunch I had brought. I know, not the best way to handle my frustration. According to AI, to deal with frustration, you should pause and calm your body, name the feeling, and shift your focus to what you can change. Nowhere in that did it say I should eat potato cakes. Mental Health America has a list of 18 ways to cope with frustration. One of the suggestions is journal and write it down, which I’m doing now. Another idea is to treat yourself, so my potato cakes and Dr. Pepper were acceptable. They have many other suggestions from spending time with an animal, listening to music, being creative, going outside, and washing your face. If you find yourself feeling frustrated, remember to step back and take time to help yourself relax and reset. You can then try and retackle whatever frustrated you. Maybe I’ll go try to reprint the second flyer from this morning. Page 3 | Roseville Area Senior Program
