Will has a lot to say, but he knows from experience that it’s not always safe to say what’s on his mind. At home and at school, with his father and his friends, Will has been gulping down his words for a long time. He doesn’t know how many more words he’ll be able to swallow. Then he meets a writer who won’t take back his words, and Will understands what being brave can mean. As Will’s words begin to flow, he tastes for the first time what selfexpression without fear can be. SEL connections: • Self-confidence • Self-expression • Social engagement

ABOUT THE AUTHOR AND ILLUSTRATOR:

ROGER ROSEN is the CEO and president of the Rosen Publishing Group, which, with its sister companies Gareth Stevens, Cavendish Square, Enslow, Greenhaven, Lucent, and KidHaven, creates more than 1,200 new titles each year for children and young adults around the world. Though Roger has spent the past 40 years helping both new and veteran authors give form to their creative vision, this is the first children’s book that he himself has written. Just like Will, Roger knows that words can be eaten but, as with a good meal, they are so much better shared. JENNY ZIOMEK is an illustrator whose paintings, artist books, and graphic novels have been exhibited across North America. A former teacher, Jenny is now a Teaching Artist at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. She works out of her home studio in Southern California, where she lives with her husband and dog.
