HOW DO I BECOME AN ELECTRICIAN?
• Be 18 years or older.
• Graduate high school or complete your GED with a C or better in Algebra 1.
• Apply to the Apprenticeship (PEJATC). All application and contact information can be found at pejatc.org.
DO I NEED TECHNICAL SKILLS?
No! The Apprenticeship and your on-the-job training will teach you what you need to know to become a highly qualified, nationally certified electrician.
WHAT IS THE STARTING WAGE?
In the Phoenix area, the Fall 2024 starting wage ranges from $18.28 - $20.11/hour, plus overtime, benefits, and raises every 6-12 months.

WHAT IS THE PHOENIX ELECTRICAL JATC APPRENTICESHIP?
The Phoenix Electrical JATC Apprenticeship is a work-study program that will earn you a national electrical certification when you graduate. Work-study means working with an IBEW electrical construction company, gaining hands-on experience, and attending school. The program lasts four years and costs about $9,000; however, you will be paid throughout the duration of your apprenticeship. Additionally, the Department of Labor offers nearly $900 million in grants, and the apprenticeship can help you apply for them.
WHAT IF I DON’T WANT TO BE AN ELECTRICIAN?
