CarFit* Wednesday, September 21, 1-4pm Erickson Park, 14115 Brazil Ave. Register By: Wednesday, September 14 Cost: FREE! CarFit is a community educational program through AAA, AARP and AOTA (American Occupational Therapy Association) that offers older adults the opportunity to check how well their personal vehicles “fit” them. At a CarFit event, a team of trained technicians and/or health professionals work with each participant to ensure they “fit” their vehicle properly for maximum comfort and safety, looking at things such as placement of seat, seat belt, wheel, head restraint, mirrors and more. A CarFit check takes approximately 20 minutes to complete. Please select an appointment time while registering.

Documentary Discussion Group Wednesday, September 14, 1:00 – 3:00pm Steeple Center, Room 202 Cost: FREE! Join us at the Steeple Center for a viewing of “A Most Beautiful Thing”. A Most Beautiful Thing is a 2020 documentary film chronicling the history of the first US African American public high school rowing team, composed of young men from the West Side of Chicago, many of whom were in rival gangs.

Conversation to discuss the subject matter of the documentary will follow immediately after the screening.

Driver Improvement Course 8-Hour Program*

Wednesday, September 28 and Thursday, September 29 5:30—9:30pm Register By: September 22 Cost: $28 Steeple Center, Room 200 Drivers over 55 are eligible to receive a 10% discount on their auto insurance upon completion of this program. This 8-hour program offers a learning experience for participants by providing instruction from a certified professional who uses the most up-to-date research in the field. Topics covered include but are not limited to: visual scanning techniques, steering techniques, antilock brake systems, airbag safety and new vehicle technology. *Requires pre-registration. THE STEEPLE CENTER Welcome readers to the “News from the Steeple Center”, a publication for 55 plus/seniors in the Rosemount community. The Steeple Center houses the majority of the programs and events for those 55 plus.

Rosemount Area Seniors Information

Monthly Luncheon Tuesday, September 6 RSVP Deadline: August 30 $13 for members/$15 for non-members 11:30am Lunch 12:15pm Entertainment Steeple Center, Assembly Hall Join us for a delicious lunch of meat loaf, sweet potatoes, pasta salad and dessert catered by House of Coates. The after lunch entertainment will be Card Bingo! Please bring 3 nickels, 3 dimes, 3 quarters, and a $1 bill for antes. Pre-registration and payment is required. Registration envelopes with payment enclosed can be placed in the RAS drop box located at the Steeple Center.

A Note From The President Gratitude for the Generous Rosemount Business Community!

During the month of June, several Rosemount Area Seniors volunteers canvassed north and south of County Road 42 . 75+ prizes were donated by local small business for the Leprechaun Button raffle held on August 1. Led by the Advisory Board, here is a special thanks to Forrest Krough, Dean Grotjohm, Karen Schraan, and Judi Dyson. Boxes were placed and donations monitored weekly by Al Sprute and Terrance Yourchuck More of you help in your own quiet way and got the button campaign word out. Thanks to the RMS Students who created images for this year’s button design, and a special thanks to our Parks and Rec office and Tad Johnson at the Dakota County Tribune!!

Thanks to our members who sold buttons in Central Park, their community meetings and along the Parade Route. Thanks to who all who gave up their Saturday to ride in the parade and make the Senior Trolley visible again! Harmony Amish Trip* Tuesday, October 11 Registration Deadline: Monday, September 12 Cost - $83/person Bus leaves Community Center at 8:45am and returns at approximately 5:15pm This trip will start off with lunch at the Branding Iron restaurant in Preston. There will be a choice of seafood, pork or chicken from the group menu, along with a potato, salad, bread and a beverage. After lunch we will head to the tiny village of Harmony. Harmony's Amish community is the largest in Minnesota and is strictly "Old Order" Amish. A local guide will escort us into the beautiful rolling countryside, where we may see Amish farmers working in the fields or moving about in their buggies. We will hear about their extraordinary way of life, their beliefs and lifestyles with no cars, telephones, electricity or other modern conveniences. Stops will be made where you can purchase some specialty crafted items, homemade goods, and bakery items (cash only).

Ozark Jubilee* Wednesday, November 16 Registration Deadline: Monday, October 10 Cost - $90/person Bus leaves Community Center at 10:15am and returns at approximately 5:15pm This trip will take us to the Treasure Island Event Center where we will enjoy lunch and a show in the ballroom.

The menu includes an entrée, vegetable, bread, beverage and a dessert. The Ozark Jubilee features an all-star cast of Branson’s top entertainers. This dynamic show salutes the music of the great legends of country music in the first half of the show, and the entire second half of the show is a variety of Christmas music. From the traditional standards such as Silent Night and White Christmas to more contemporary Christmas selections, it will be music that will touch your heart. This show features vocals, comedy and instrumentals. World-class fiddler, Doofus Doolittle presents his unique brand of humor and some of the best fiddle and violin music you will hear. Enjoy his stories about some of the legendary artists he has performed with. He will salute comedians of yesteryears such as Archie Campbell, String Bean and Minnie Pearl. Enjoy this holiday musical event with the sounds of laughter, bluegrass, gospel, country and traditional Christmas music.

Winter Lights at the Arboretum* Thursday, December 8 Registration Deadline: Monday, November 7 Cost - $85/person Bus leaves Community Center at 3:15pm and returns at approximately 8:00pm Start this winter adventure with a wonderful dinner at Axel’s Restaurant in Chanhassen. You will have a choice of a small sirloin or the signature walleye with Axel’s famous popover, salad, beans, mashed potatoes, a petite dessert and beverage. After dinner we will visit the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum's large-scale light installation that illuminates after dark with outdoor and indoor installations. At the Winter Lights display, get outside and enjoy the crisp, fresh air of a winter evening, as you experience outdoor light displays, featuring flowers, nature and winter fun, on an accessible, walkway that is just over a half-mile. Warm up midway through the walk at a bonfire and roast marshmallows over the fire -- s’mores packages will be for sale. Embrace all that a Minnesota winter has to offer -- dress for the weather! Inside the Oswald Visitor Center, you’ll find festive decor, the Arboretum’s Gift & Garden Store and refreshments (on own) for sale. *Requires pre-registration. Yoga* Tuesdays: September 6—27 Thursdays: September 8—29 1:00-2:00pm Register By: 1 WEEK Prior to Session Cost: $26/session (4 classes) Steeple Center, Room 200 Join instructors Stacey Popp (Tuesdays) and Lori Kearney (Thursdays) for this 50+ yoga class. Proper breathing and gentle postures will be taught to enhance strength and mobility. Chairs are available and can be used to adapt poses for your comfort. The class environment will help promote peaceful, joyful and healthy individuals. Participants are encouraged to bring their own mats.

Movie in the Park

The Rosemount Area Arts Council (RAAC) hosts many exciting events at the Steeple Center that you can take advantage of. Tickets can be purchased online at RAAC’s website www.rosemountarts.com, at the Steeple Center during their Box Office Hours (Mondays 10am12pm, Tuesdays 9-11am and Thursdays 1-3pm), or at the door .

Saturday, August 20 at Dusk Central Park FREE! Bring your blankets and lawn chairs and enjoy a screening of “The Sandlot”, the classic coming of age baseball movie.

BYOC Music Night Saturday, August 13, 5:00-9:00pm Central Park FREE! Bring your own cooler, bring your own chair (BYOC) and enjoy some free entertainment at Central Park! Music by TPK (Them Pesky Kids) will begin at 6:30pm, and The Rustic Chef and Youniverse Foodie Waffles food trucks will be on site.

Adults of all ages are invited to “walk about” the Community Center. Maintain your walking program all year round, rain or shine, heat or sleet. Weather is no longer an excuse! Wednesday, August 31, 1:30-3:00pm Steeple Center, Room 202 Cost: $12 Register By: Wednesday, August 24 Every year the Minnesota State Fair showcases seed mosaics created by artists from all over the state. In our seed mosaic workshop, participants will continue this great tradition by creating their own works of seed art. Participants will learn about the history and techniques of mosaic art and create a design of their own! families. Presented by Caponi Art Park.

Join us for an old-time fair on the grounds of the Steeple Center and in Assembly Hall. Artists’ work will include: fiber art, hand-crafted stone jewelry, woodcraft, mixed media, photography and painting. Woodcarvers will be demonstrating their craft, authors will be signing and selling their books, and live music and food trucks will be on the lawn.

Steam Machine: Old Time Bluegrass Music—$15 Friday, September 30th, 7:00pm

RAAC’s UFO and PHD Group: Do you have any projects half done (PHDs) or unfinished objects (UFOs) hanging around your house? Be it knitting, crocheting, beadwork, embroidery, wool work or any other type of hand work, we would love to have you join our group. This is a social group hoping to finish projects while enjoying the camaraderie found with like artists. There is no fee associated with joining this group.
