Driver Improvement Course 8-Hour Program* Mon & Tues, March 18-19 5:30-9:30pm Register By: Tuesday, March 12 Cost: $28 Steeple Center, Room 200

Drivers over 55 are eligible to receive a 10% discount on their auto insurance upon completion of this program. This 8-hour program offers a learning experience for participants by providing instruction from a certified professional who uses the most upto-date research in the field. Topics covered include but are not limited to: visual scanning techniques, steering techniques, antilock brake systems, airbag safety and new vehicle technology.

Steeple Service Crew Volunteer Opportunity

Monday, February 19 10:00am—12:00pm The Drawer 2935 West Service Road, Eagan Are you looking for a fun way to give back to our community on Presidents' Day? Consider joining the Steeple Service Crew as we volunteer at The Drawer in Eagan on Monday, February 19th from 10am-12pm. This organization collects, sorts, bundles and distributes donated socks and underwear (new) to people in need in our area. During our shift, we'll be bundling socks together so it's not a physically demanding activity. The Drawer is located at 2935 West Service Road in Eagan. Reminder—Winter Weather Policy As a reminder, the Steeple Center will close when ISD 196 (Rosemount, Apple Valley, Eagan) cancels school for winter weather. When ISD 196 calls for a delayed start or early release to the school day, the Steeple Center will remain open with normal hours. The one exception to this policy will be if schools are closed on a luncheon day, the Steeple Center will remain open and the luncheon will go on as scheduled. *Requires pre-registration. THE STEEPLE CENTER Welcome readers to the “News from the Steeple Center”, a publication for 55 plus/seniors in the Rosemount community. The Steeple Center houses the majority of the programs and events for those 55 plus.

Programs are offered by the City of Rosemount Parks & Recreation Department.

Things have changed a lot over the years, even the name of the group, but one thing that remains the same is that it is a wonderful group of active older adults helping to create a sense of community in Rosemount! Come celebrate 60 years and beyond with cake and refreshments and a special presentation by the Looney Lutherans, performing their show “Young(ish) at Heart: Still Looney After All These Years”! While getting older can sometimes be a literal “pain in the neck”, laughter really is good medicine. Celebrate being young(ish) at heart with the Looney Lutherans – because age ain’t nothing but a number.

AARP Senior Tax Aide Wednesdays, February 7—April 10 8:30am—1:30pm APPOINTMENTS REQUIRED We are excited to be able to offer this program at the Steeple Center again this year! An AARP Tax Aide volunteer will later reach out in the order we received your call to actually schedule an appointment and provide pertinent information on which documents will be needed. This call will come from 651-447-5318. Please allow time for the volunteer to contact you and do not call Parks & Rec multiple times or seek an appointment elsewhere while waiting.

Irish Influence in St. Paul* Tuesday, April 9 Registration Deadline: Monday, March 4 Cost - $90/person Bus leaves Community Center at 9:45am and returns at approximately 3:15pm Have a fun and informative day in St. Paul learning about the influence of the Irish in Minnesota’s capitol city. In St. Paul, meet a professional step-on tour guide for an informative riding tour. A tour guide will join us on the bus to talk about how Irish immigrants influenced the city’s architecture, politics, religion and more. If weather permits, we will get off the bus at a few locations as well. After the tour, we will have lunch at O’Malley’s Irish Pub in Woodbury featuring handcrafted booths, fireplace and more. You will have a choice of 1) homemade Shepperd's pie with diced sirloin and vegetables in savory gravy, topped with homemade spuds and fresh parmesan cheese or 2) fish & chips featuring handbattered cod in our own Harp beer batter served with “chips,” tartar sauce and coleslaw.

DrumFIT Cardio Drumming* Tuesdays, 10:00am, $10/month Room 200 Register By: March 4 We have partnered with DrumFIT, the world’s leading cardio drumming program, to have access to their extensive on-demand class content and video library. DrumFIT is a unique cardio drumming program, designed for older adults, that uses movement and rhythm to benefit both the mind and body.

Yoga* Tuesdays: March 5—26 Thursdays: March 7—28 1:00-2:00pm Register By: 1 WEEK Prior to Session Cost: $30/session (4 classes) Steeple Center, Room 200 Join instructors Stacey Popp (Tuesdays) and Lori Kearney (Thursdays) for this 50+ yoga class. Proper breathing and gentle postures will be taught to enhance strength and mobility. Chairs are available and can be used to adapt poses for your comfort. The class environment will help promote peaceful, joyful and healthy individuals. Participants are encouraged to bring their own mats.

Second Act Players The Second Act Players of Rosemount is a membership organization for seniors age 50 and over, interested in the theater.

There are many opportunities for becoming involved, including: acting in plays and skits, set construction, stage management, directing, lighting and sound operation, script writing, costume design, classes, field trips, improvisational workshops, community outreach, and more.

RAAC’s UFO and PHD Group: Do you have any projects half done (PHDs) or unfinished objects (UFOs) hanging around your house?

651 Jazz is a group of like-minded jazz musicians from the Rosemount/Apple Valley area who play their own arrangements of jazz and other standards. You will hear familiar tunes like “Body and Soul” and “Fly Me to the Moon,” Latin tunes such as “Black Orpheus” and “Sway,” and popular songs like “Sleep Walk” and “Georgia on My Mind.”

Born out of a love for traditional bluegrass, our group includes 6 performers including Brin Petersen, Phil Nusbaum and Mary Ellen Fox.. As we each brought our diverse backgrounds to the bands soundscape, the focus has expanded to a mix of traditional and progressive Bluegrass, Country and Americana.
