LSB Teachers Speak Out

As John Donne said in his song, “No man is an Island… No man stands alone… We need one another”, in the context of our lives as teachers and the inevitable changes and challenges that happen every single day, we can say that no teacher is an island, and no teacher stands alone. We need one another to meet and demonstrate a high degree of competence and commitment to our teaching profession throughout the country. We do not live in a vacuum; we live in a society, and we are part of it. We play a very important and crucial role in our society. We help shape our society and to do so, we need to work together to heighten the nobility of teaching not only as a profession, but also as a vocation and a mission.

Here in the Philippines, our public education service is managed and delivered centrally through the Department of Education (DepEd). At the local level, the DepEd maintains Schools Divisions and Congressional Districts corresponding to the three biggest local government units – the provinces, cities, and municipalities. The divisions and districts in turn supervise elementary (Kindergarten to Grade VI) and high schools (Junior to Senior High School) that comprise the basic education system in our country.

Its main duty is to allocate the Special Education Fund (SEF) to meet the supplementary needs of the local public school system. The SEF is an additional 1% levy that is collected, together with real property taxes paid to the local government.

Sto. Tomas Senior High School is privileged to be given twelve LSB Teachers who happened to be teacher-applicants from the different barangays of City of Sto. Tomas, Tanauan City and Alaminos, Laguna. They are aspiring to be part of a bigger community of educators, and they took the challenge of teaching learners of different backgrounds in a public school. Hence, they are the aid for the overwhelming teaching loads and auxiliary activities of publicschool teachers, with this we can also consider them as modern heroes in our society, because they have a mind to impart knowledge and a voice to speak for our learners and have a wider outlook for our educational system.

Our LSB Teachers are namely: Christian Danila, Queency Ara U. De Ocampo, PJ L. Ventura, Jassel Raica De Leon, Gel Marie M. Faylona, Joselito R. Bisco, Laarni Airalyn A.Cabrera, Angelito D. Ramos, Jershy P. De Leon, John Christian E. Tucino, Anelyn S. Lorio, and John Lester Felisilda.
