Classifica�on of Environmental Incidents Steps A�er Environmental Incident Occurs 1. Stop the Source and confine the spill. 2. No�fy Dept Supervisor and communicate the details of the spill. 3. Ask for advice to control the spill and no�fy the Env. Dept. immediately if the spill is above 10L. 4. Accomplish clean-up of the spill. 5. Submit the same shi� a completed ENV-F-11 Environmental Incident report to the Env. Dept. and include pictures before and a�er clean-up.

Spill can be cleaned up by personnel according to EMS procedure ENV-PR-08 Spill & Leak Management. 2. No implementa�on of the Emergency Management and Response Plan (EMRP).

Low (L)
Any amount contained within secondary containment, no addi�onal impacts. Or < 500 liters of nonacutely hazardous spill or equivalent emission on site. 1. Spill can be cleaned up by personnel according to EMS procedure ENV-PR-08. 2. No implementa�on of the EMRP. 3. Loss of some non-endangered animals or plants (< 2 hectare < 10 animals).

Moderate (M) Any amount > 500 liters contained within area already impacted by mining. Or minor quickly contained & corrected hazardous spills or emission on or off site. 1. Implementa�on of the EMRP not necessary. 2. Environmental impact can be reversed within 1 month. 3. Loss of non-endangered plants or animals (> 2 hectare or > 10 animals).

Significant contaminant contained on mine controlled area but on un-impacted ground. Non acutely hazardous spill (5000 – 15,000 liters) / or equivalent emission off site. 1. EMRP is required. 2. Any loss of endangered / highly regarded flora / fauna and or non-endangered flora & fauna that has Level 4 Social / Corporate impacts. 3. Environmental impact can be reversed within 1 month. 4. Non – life threatening spill. 5. Non acutely hazardous spill or equivalent emission (> 15,000 liters) off site. 1. Significant loss of endangered species / highly regarded flora / fauna and or non-endangered flora & fauna that has Level 5 Social / Corporate Impacts. 2. EMRP is required. 3. Remedia�on > 12 months. 4. Acutely life-threatening hazardous spill or emission on or off site.
