Rosebel Gold Mines achieves Triple Zero quarter after 12 years am proud to report that our safety performance in the last quarter of 2022 was outstanding. Thanks to the dedication and hard work of all our employees, we were able to maintain a safe and healthy work environment," begins Michiel Fleischeuer, General Manager, Rosebel Gold Mines (RGM) with his announcement of Triple Zero status. Our safety figures have established that RGM had no cases of Medical Aid (MA), Modified Duty (MD), or Lost Time Accident (LTA) after September 26, 2022, through January 18, 2023 (114 days). A solid safety milestone to be proud of. There have also been no incidents after May 20, 2021, where the employee could not perform his/her duties (so-called lost time incidents).
"I
Shalini Kesarsing, Health, Safety, and Environment Manager, knows that 12 years ago Rosebel recorded a Triple Zero twice in the first and fourth quarters. After that, this particular achievement was never achieved. "In early 2022, we had a lot of recordable incidents. Therefore, many actions were taken to reduce these incidents. We started monitoring, talking, and engaging more with the employees and contractors," Shalini says. The GM says more or less the same: "We have implemented strict protocols, procedures, and Safety Stewards to ensure the welfare of our employees and protect
our assets. Through consistent training, we have managed to maintain a high level of safety awareness, resulting in this Triple Zero quarter at RGM after twelve years!" On top of this fact, Michiel says it is also true that 3.5 million hours have been worked without an LTA. "Our commitment to safety is unwavering and we will continue to strive for excellence in this area," Michiel said. To maintain Triple Zero status, Shalini says all employees must do a risk assessment every time before starting the job. "Safety is a day-by-day accomplishment. We have to keep reporting and correcting unsafe situations and unsafe actions, and we have to keep watching our colleagues and ourselves. At the end of the day, you can look back and say: We worked safely and we go to our families safely," said the Health, Safety, and Environment Manager, who believes the Triple Zero result shows that we can work safely.
