Cherida van der Kamp a�er 30 years of service:

"Believe in yourself"

"I

was in the fourth grade of the secondary school (Mulo) when I became pregnant with my first child. A�er my parents found out I was pregnant, I had to return to my village. I gave birth to a girl in January 1993, and the plan was for me to go back to school. However, my brother suggested that I should look for a job at Rosebel Gold Mines. That's how I started working in July 1993. I was the first woman here at the work site," Cherida van der Kamp begins her

story. It is now 30 years later, and Cherida is s�ll working here, an achievement that only a handful of people can match.

How it all began "I started in the Housing department," Cherida says. At that �me, Laundry was also part of Housing. This was all during the Golden Star period when the mine was not fully developed yet. "I always enjoyed the work," con�nues the Laundry A�endant.

"At the beginning, it was tough

because I had to leave my newborn baby with my parents, but I built a strong bond with the people here. I worked every day from Monday to Friday and could hardly take leave.

However, when I did take leave once, the management asked me to find a subs�tute. That's how Josta Rozewijn became the second woman at RGM." Cherida didn't stay long in the Housing department; she didn't like working in different loca�ons all the �me. So when Laundry got a

permanent loca�on, she decided to switch to Laundry. She has been in the department ever since.

Highlights Cherida s�ll remembers her first jubilee celebra�on. At that �me, she had been with the company for 20 years and was recognized as their longest serving employee. "People gave me recogni�on, and that made me feel good," she proudly says.

30 years of service The Laundry A�endant reveals that the secret to working in the same place for 30 years is "simplicity." "I am simple. I carry out orders correctly, and I can control myself. I don't get angry easily, and I am tolerant. My mother took care of my four children when I was absent. I

was home every day and could s�ll play a role in raising my children."

Message "I want to tell everyone to persevere and con�nue to believe in themselves, and everything will be fine. You have to believe in yourself to achieve something in society because 30 years is not easy, but with self-belief, you can achieve it."

Rosebel donates school bags to all sixth graders

F

rom August 7 to 10, Zijin Rosebel Gold Mines N.V. ("RGM") donated school bags to all sixth graders in its opera�onal regions for the fi�eenth �me. 402 students from 22 schools, along with teachers and community members from Brokopondo and Sipaliwini, expressed gra�tude with cheerful smiles and joyful faces. This project cost US$20,275.

The school package includes a sturdy school bag and includes a dic�onary, exercise books, and other necessary supplies “This is a huge financial relief for the

parents!”, both school principal Samantha Main of Nieuw Koffiekamp and CC-member of Brownsweg Erdina Finisie expressed their thanks.

Students, teachers, and CC members also conveyed their gra�tude to Zijin Rosebel Gold Mines N.V.” This year’s project began in Niew Koffiekamp – the closest village to Zijin RGM – and ended at the school in the village of Tapoeripa. The objec�ves of the school package dona�on project are to provide all sixth graders of the elementary

schools of Brokopondo and Pikin Saramacca with a package of basic school supplies. This provides financial relief in this economically difficult �me to parents/guardians, especially mothers, of the students by reducing the cost of purchasing school supplies for the coming school year. Furthermore, this project encourages students to stay in school and successfully complete their educa�on.

08. ROSEBEL INVESTS IN THE FUTURE OF THE COMMUNITIES

Summer job successfully completed

S

ince 2011, RGM has been ac�vely engaged in organizing a Summer Job Program as part of our Sustainable Community Development ini�a�ves. This year, the program concluded on Friday, September 15, with par�cipa�ng students receiving par�cipa�on cer�ficates during a closing ceremony. The primary goal of this program is to provide students from the Brokopondo district and the Upper Saramacca area with an opportunity to gain work experience over the summer within the company. It caters to students at both high school and higher educa�on levels, allowing them to enhance their exis�ng skills, acquire new ones, and make produc�ve use

of their free �me during the summer break.

Yoanne Najoe, RGM's Community Rela�ons Superintendent, views this program as a meaningful way for the company to give back to the surrounding communi�es. She states, "With the Summer Job project, our objec�ve is to provide students from the communi�es with an inside look at our company's opera�ons and work processes. Simultaneously, they gain valuable work experience and earn income during their vaca�ons."

This year, a total of 29 students par�cipated in the program from the eight Communi�es of Interest (COIs), including Nieuw Koffiekamp, Nieuw

Lombe, Balingsoela, Brownsweg, Marshallkreek, Kwakoegron, Klaaskreek, and Pikin Saamaka Communi�es. From August 16th to September 15th, these students were placed in various departments within RGM, working under the guidance of dedicated staff members. The successful implementa�on of this program is a collabora�ve effort between RGM's Community Rela�ons and Development department and the HR department.

n Monday, October 9, Rosebel Gold Mines N.V. (RGM), hosted the contract signing ceremony of the Rosebel Scholarship Program 2023-2024 at Torarica’s Royal Ballroom.

This scholarship program provides scholarships to the best graduates of Secondary schools in Brokopondo, Sipaliwini, and primary schools in the Matawai area, and enables them to complete their study path in high school or higher educa�on in Paramaribo. The program provides both technical and social counseling for all enrolled students. The cost of study is paid by RGM, including housing, monthly transporta�on, consump�on, s�pend, tui�on, and study materials from the �me students begin the program un�l they complete their higher educa�on degree. The students entering the program from the 2023-2024 school year are Anea Fitelia and Trovena Amoloe of Mulo Atjoni, Marencia Huur and Lakisha Linga of LBO Atjoni, Lafurtery Baisie and Riquella Olan of Mulo Brownsweg, Renato King and Varjele Seedo of Nieuw Jacob School.

President Santokhi explores future collabora�on with Zijin Mining

n October 21, 2023, President Chandrikapersad Santokhi, along with a delega�on led by Zou Laichang, Execu�ve Director and Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors and President of Zijin Mining, held a crucial mee�ng. This mee�ng marks a significant moment in the bilateral rela�ons between Suriname and China and opens promising prospects for future coopera�on.

President Santokhi welcomed the delega�on with pleasure, especially in light of the recent celebra�on of 170 years of the Chinese community's presence in Suriname.

He noted that this mee�ng is taking place at a cri�cal �me, as Suriname is currently in the final stages of debt restructuring nego�a�ons with China. The president also emphasized the posi�ve influence a

respected company like Zijin Mining can have on this complex process.

Execu�ve Director Zou Laichang expressed gra�tude to the president for the warm recep�on and emphasized Zijin Mining's commitment as a rapidly growing enterprise that places great importance on respec�ng local culture and compliance with regula�ons.

Minister Mac Andrew welcomes Jerry for introductory meeting

ctober 19, 2023, Minister Steven Mac Andrew of Labor, Employment & Youth Affairs (AWJ) had a courtesy visit from Jerry Zhu, the People & Culture Manager of Zijin Mining Group Co. Ltd (Zijin). This mining group acquired Rosebel Gold Mines NV in February of this year.

During this visit, both par�es discussed labor condi�ons and protec�on, both within the company and in general.

This conversa�on took place in the context of the Decent Work ini�a�ve promoted and implemented by the ministry. Jerry Zhu was accompanied by Angela De Abreu, the Human Resources Superintendent at Zijin Rosebel Gold Mines. Also present at the mee�ng were Naomi EsajasFriperson, Deputy Director of Labor Market at AWJ, and Rowan Noredjo, the Inspector General of Labor Inspec�on.

MINE MAINTENANCE

Mine Maintenance 1500 Days LTA-Free

Earn: "Safety is our way of life, that's who we are."

On September 5, 2021, Mine Maintenance had achieved 750 days without a Lost Time Accident (LTA).

At that �me, Anup Soebedar, Assistant Superintendent, expressed the hope that Mine Maintenance would experience 1500 LTA-free days. That wish came true. On September 26, 2023, Mine Maintenance recorded 1500 days without any incidents.

According to Earn Karta, this is the

result of constant hard work on safety and raising awareness about safety. It means having conversa�ons, coaching, and mo�va�on every day, as explained by the General Foreman of Maintenance Work Execu�on.

At Mine Maintenance, they work with power tools, heavy equipment, light vehicles, and other tools every day.

Accidents can happen in every corner, so safety must become a way of life.

"This is who we are."

According to Earn, achieving 1500 LTA-free days was only possible through the collec�ve efforts of all Mine Maintenance employees. Earn cau�ously men�ons that the next milestone should be 3000 days. "We will do everything to reach this milestone. Safety will always be our top priority," Earn emphasized.
