WORKSHOPS & TALK PROGRAMME
Talk and Workshop for Professional Practitioners & Artists A seminal figure in contemporary dance, Mary Nunan founded “Daghdha” in Limerick in the 1980s, before embarking on a role as a lecturer and inspiration to countless dancers who came through the University there. As part of the national residency programme, Mary will host a talk and workshop at Roscommon Arts Centre for artists and practitioners. Mary’s talk, entitled: “Sensation, Surface, Space” will explore the notion that dance and choreography require an inter - disciplinary and collaborative approach to performance as Nunan discusses her own work and what has informed its development to date. She will give an account of the conceptual/body-mind principles and practices driving her work and discuss her current interest in exploring how a heightened awareness of space serves to awaken sensation in the moving body and how this, might create collaborative exchanges with other artists. The “Sensation, Surface, Space” workshop will introduce practices and methods for attuning to space as a support for movement: to sense space as a surface – a dancing partner. Focussing on how to release the tensions that limit range of movement, the workshop activities will be based on principles and practices drawn from post-modern, release-based contemporary dance techniques and improvisation. Talk: Saturday 6th May | 1pm – 3pm | Free Event Workshop: Saturday 6th May | 4pm – 6pm | Free Event | PRE-BOOKING ESSENTIAL VIA BOX OFFICE

Elderly farmers, Eamon (Des Keogh ) and Nashee ( Derry Power), meet at a gate on a remote hillside. They are old friends, old rivals, old neighbours. Their conversation is a throwback to a gentler time, but there’s nothing gentle about today’s conversation. Facing the bitter reality of their remote defiance, Eamon and Nashee have grown fearful and desperate. They are forced to confront each other with some heartbreaking truths that test their friendship to its limit. After today, will they ever again talk on this hillside? ‘The Quiet Land’ is a celebration of the humour, resilience and endearing innocence of an exiled generation. WEDNESDAY 3rd MAY | 8pm | €18/€16
