Workshop Programme: Theatre & Dance

Elderberries Dance Ensemble with ACHILLes Dance Initiative facilitator Catherine Donnelly.

Catherine Donnelly is a performer and member of Dance Ireland.

Her Elderberries dance class for older people, aged 50+ focuses on techniques to improve strength, flexibility and balance. Classes are “drop-in” and participants should wear supportive comfortable non- slip footwear and clothing.

YOUTH THEATRE Roscommon County Youth Theatre returns for a new term. Commencing with an open day on September 12th, when casting will also begin for their next production, themed around The 1916 Rising. New members aged 13-24 are welcome, no previous acting experience necessary.

Simon Carman and Helen Sharp (Roscommon Arts Centre) will present their project “Wilderness in Modified Landscape” and Pauline O’Connell (Leitrim Sculpture Centre) will show “The Milk Well & The Tea Well”.

Art School To coincide with the Lollipops Festival, artists Rhona Byrne & Vanessa Donoso López along with Nollaig Molloy & Breda Coyne worked with National Schools in Roscommon to create an installation that will transform the gallery.

ARTIST HUB The artist Hotdesk & Reading Area is located in the gallery, giving artists living in the County free access to video, sound and image editing software (Adobe Premiere, Photoshop, inDesign), free wifi, books, magazines and informational publications relating to the visual arts. Ruth Lyons: The Park Research Project Visual artist Ruth Lyons will use Lough Key Forest Park and it’s environs as a site for researching a new art project this autumn. Ruth’s work is concerned with landscape and for this project, she is interested in how space exploration re-defines our perception of the earth and the space we inhabit. The work produced will be installed in 2016.

Lollipops CHILDREN’s FESTIVAL Lollipops is Roscommon Arts Centre’s month-long programme of children’s events, which takes place in October at both the arts centre and at schools around the county. This year’s programme launch takes place on Saturday October 3rd from 2pm on-wards and you’re invited!

Ceol Connected

The creatures of Whistleberry Forest have discovered a little oak tree growing deep in the woods. However, there are no birds singing, no leaves rustling, and no animals scurrying around its trunk. Presented by Ceol Connected, this delightful musical takes children and accompanying adults on an adventure through the forest where they explore instruments, sing, and dance, and help Oran the owl, Sorley the snail and Faolán the frog bring a little oak tree to life.

TEACHERS RESOURCE LIBRARY Roscommon Arts Office has a selection of publications for teachers and this October, we’re launching our Teachers Resource library.

You’re invited to visit our reading area, browse the publications and avail of our free rental scheme. From plays, to books on movement and dance, to writing prompts and musical instruments, we’ve unearthed some wonderful books to inspire you!

Pre-school/Montessori teachers also welcome.

HANDS ON FOR FUN MUSIC WORKSHOPS Working with professional musicians, Simply Music’s fun workshops, blend interactive technology with performance. Children will have the opportunity to use percussion instruments and boomwhackers and learn about rhythmic development, instrumental exploration and music making. Box Office: 090 6625824 Tuesday – Friday 10am – 5.00pm Saturdays: 2pm – 5pm on performance days only.

On performance evenings, box office hours: 7.15pm – 8.30pm.

The Gallery is open to the public during centre opening hours.

Please note tickets should be collected at least fifteen minutes before the advertised start time. Alternatively tickets can be collected from the box office during opening hours.

RESERVATIONS: Reservations will be held pending payment until 48 hours before a performance.

Group reservations are held until one week before a performance. In order to comply with fire regulations, each person, even babies, must have a valid ticket for performances. Please check your reservation at time of booking as there is room for human error and mistakes cannot always be rectified at a later stage.There are no refunds or exchanges on tickets, unless events are cancelled/re-scheduled. If you are unable to attend an event please contact us and we will endeavour to assist you.

Although animals are not permitted in the arts centre, an exception is made for guide dogs and service animals, the box office should be made aware of such accommodations at time of booking Please note the arts centre does not have elevators or escalators; the gallery and workshop spaces are not wheelchair accessible.

LATECOMERS: We regret to inform you that latecomers are not admitted under any circumstances. This policy is stated clearly on the back of all tickets and as part of the online booking facility which you agree to, by clicking acceptance of the terms and conditions. Staff also inform patrons at time of booking.

Shows commence promptly at the advertised start time. Roscommon County Council’s Code of Conduct for Customers and members of the public, clearly states the harassment of staff and behaviour which is disruptive will not be accepted and in this instance you will be asked to leave the premises.

PAYMENT: Payment can be made by cash, debit card or cheque. Cheques should be made payable to Roscommon County Council.
