The early booker catches the worm! If you’re coming to “The Locksmiths Song”, check out whether or not we have any spaces left in our FREE Locksmith’s workshop! Learn how to make puppets from everyday objects and some of the basic principles of puppetry and drama as we explore character development and action. Students will also have a chance to ask questions about the show and meet some of its characters. Workshops available Monday 16th & Tuesday 17th October, in school or at the arts centre | Ages 7+

SILLY SYMPHONies

EARLY YEARS MUSIC PROGRAMME Our “Silly Symphonies” music programme focuses on babies and toddlers. Young participants will have the opportunity to sing, dance, listen and explore through play and music. A gentle introduction to music for children, this fun music programme is delivered by music teacher and co-ordinator of the Roscommon County Youth Orchestra Andrea Kerr. THURSDAY 5th, 12th, 19th & 26th OCTOBER | 11am - 12pm €40 per child | 1 - 3 year olds

It’s Lollipops time once again at Roscommon Arts Centre and we’ve planned a host of events here at the arts centre for families and schools to enjoy throughout the month of October and we hope that you will come along and join us in some Lollipops fun!

Wheels on the Bus Fund

With the support of Creative Ireland 2017, Roscommon Arts Centre introduces “The Wheels on the Bus” an initiative to support school/crèche groups who need to hire buses to attend Lollipops events. If you’re hiring a bus, then you’re entitled to a €2 reduction on each ticket purchased.

Four Go Wild in Wellies Scarves, tents that have a life of their own and, of course, lots of fun in wellies! Four Go Wild in Wellies is a brand new show for young audiences from Indepen-dance4, Scotland’s inclusive professional dance company. FRIDAY 6th OCTOBER | 10am | €5 | Ages 3 – 5

FAMILY & CRECHE SHOW

This is a story of Cubert the cube and Triantán the triangle and the adventures they have when all of the shapes get mixed up. Set in a soft and tactile environment, this show was created by Ailie Cohen (Starcatchers) and Marc Mac Lochlainn (Branar). This interactive story is told through puppetry, object theatre, music and sound. TUESDAY 10th OCTOBER | 10am & 12pm | €5 | Ages 6 months – 2 years

THE LOCKSMITH’S SONG Set in the dusty world of an old locksmith’s shop this tale is full of action and adventure. A boy tricks death and locks it in a box, he battles with a ferocious monster who has fought great armies of the world and lived to tell the tale as he risks everything to save his mother from sickness. This highly visual show by Eoin Lynch mixes puppetry, physical theatre, song and dance. TUESDAY 17th OCTOBER |10am | €5 | Ages: 7+

They Called Her Vivaldi Family favourites Theatre Lovett return with this upbeat comedy-adventure. A sensitive musical-prodigy makes a quiet name for herself in a cacophonous world. As our young heroine journeys over cobblestones and canals, we learn about love, loss, the place of salt in our diet and the courage to lose our footing without losing our way. Supported by The Arts Council of Ireland. There is a brief use of strobe lighting during the performance. WEDNESDAY 25th OCTOBER | 10am & 12pm 55 | Ages: 7+ and Adults of All Ages

A fun filled exploration of music and movement perfectly suited for your energetic little ones. Join Kyle Riley as he leads children and their adults through a variety of music that gets you singing, jumping and shaking. Make big sounds with percussive instruments, sway with a colourful scarf and float with the bubbles in this hugely engaging musical session. SATURDAY 28th OCTOBER | 12pm & 2pm | €5 | Ages 6 months – 6 years

VISUAL ART PROGRAMME

FLORILEGIUM: NAOMI DRAPER

Artist Naomi Draper’s Florilegium, a Gathering of Flowers exhibition continues in our first floor gallery space throughout the festival. For this exhibition, Naomi will transform the gallery with an exhibition that includes an installation created using pressed flowers gathered over the summer months. This preserved landscape of cow parsley flowers will resemble a “floorcarpet”, echoing traditions around rituals in India & Belgium. Free guided tours and workshops are available for primary school groups throughout the month, booking via the box office.

VISUAL ART PROGRAMME

CLAIMING SPACES PRIMARY SCHOOL VISUAL ART INSTALLATION

As part of our Culture Night programme for this year, artist Anna Spearman will work with two primary schools to create work for this new installation, which will continue in the arts centre’s public spaces throughout Lollipops. Exhibition opens Friday 22nd September | 5pm

ART SCHOOL TAKEOVER Art School is a collaborative project between artists and independent curator Jennie Guy, Roscommon Arts Centre & Roscommon Arts Office. The Art School Takeover is a mobile platform that will provide a primary school in a rural setting with close contact to contemporary artists and their work in their own educational environment.
