PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE Congratulations to our students, staff, families and community for another very successful Term 2. As you read the rest of ML you will see stories, pictures and awards recognising the many achievements we have made.

I want to extend best wishes to two of our staff team who were successful in being appointed to substantive positions - Melanie Douglas was appointed as the third Deputy Principal (with responsibility for Years 7 and 10 in 2026) and Jade Dowling was appointed as our new Head Teacher Human Society and Its Environment (HSIE).

I am sure they will be a great addition to our leadership team.

Congratulations to Year 12 - a fantastic effort in completing the Trial HSC examinations at the end of Term 2, giving time for students to show us their best work on major projects and the final assessment tasks in Term 3. Good luck to all.

Congratulations on receiving your reports for Semester 1.

I want to acknowledge we are on country and that this week we have recognised NAIDOC and the importance of reconciliation to our journey together to be a successful school and community.

Last term, I attended a major conference for principals, and we were very privileged to have Ivan Cleary, the Panthers coach, talk to us about building a team culture. He said several things that have stayed with me and one of them was to describe himself as a ”footy nerd” – someone who is always trying to understand more about the game, the culture of the team and how to get the best performance possible.

Today, I want you to reconsider a word that is often misunderstood: “nerd.”

Whether you are an e-sports nerd, anime nerd, a sporting nerd, an arts nerd, a music nerd, an online media nerd or an academic nerd, being a nerd is fundamentally about pursuing your passion with commitment and excellence.

How do you become a nerd?

It begins with discovering your personal areas of expertise—what drives your curiosity and motivates you to strive for your personal best. Being a nerd means constantly looking for better, smarter and more creative ways to improve and succeed.

Let us consider examples. The academic nerds in this school (including teachers and staff) are not merely people who achieve top marks, but people who embrace the ABCs of school and work—attend, complete work, do assignments and projects, and go beyond. They seek understanding, perseverance and discipline in their learning journey, knowing that excellence comes not from talent alone, but from self-regulation and consistent effort.

Now, think of the sporting nerds in this school. Perhaps they are not the fastest or the strongest, but they train with purpose and resilience. They use setbacks as opportunities to recover and continually seek innovative ways to play to their strengths. Their discipline is matched by their drive to be better, both on and off the field. The result for this school is an elite culture of success in a range of sports.

In creative pursuits, the arts nerd is someone who lives for expression. They explore new techniques, collaborate and challenge themselves to turn imagination into reality. They understand that perfection is a journey, and that recovery— learning from mistakes and embracing feedback—is essential for growth. The result is seen in the ways art, music, drama and creativity are displayed across the school.

But being a nerd doesn’t stop at knowledge, sport, or the arts. We can be citizenship nerds, too. This is what we have done really well at this school and what I expect to see grow even stronger next semester as we work together to do our best.

This is demonstrated through acts of kindness, humility, and service to others. The student who notices a peer struggling and offers support, who volunteers time to make the school a better place, or who listens respectfully and acts with integrity, is showing citizenship at its highest level. In these moments, reasons matter more than excuses and self-regulation is about doing the right thing, even when no one is watching.

Making mistakes—or moments we might call “stupidity”—are merely steps in our journey. True strength lies in acknowledging them, recovering, and moving forward with humility.

I encourage you to think about your personal “nerd identity”. What do you do well? It may be something at school, or it could go beyond that.

Embrace your strengths and passions with pride. Play to your strengths in every area—academic, sporting, creative, and citizenship. Strive for your personal best, pursue better, smarter and more creative approaches, and practice selfdiscipline, self-regulation, kindness and humility every day.

Being a nerd means being a lifelong learner, an innovator,

a team player, and, above all, a compassionate member of our community.

DEPUTY PRINCPAL’S MESSAGE Ms Melanie Douglas As we reach the end of Term 2, it is wonderful to reflect on the continued growth of our Year 7 and Year 10 students.

While these cohorts are at different stages of their schooling journey, both have built on the strong foundations established earlier this year, embracing new opportunities, taking greater ownership of their learning and contributing positively to school life.

Year 7: Growing in Confidence and Belonging Year 7 have continued to grow in confidence as active members of the Rooty Hill High School community. Their achievements this term reflect this growth, with students earning 1,028 Merit Awards, 354 Significant Achievement Awards and 17 Participation Awards, demonstrating our PERSIST values and a commitment to excellence.

Students embraced a wide range of opportunities throughout the term. Our Student Ambassadors proudly represented the school through office duties and visits to local primary schools, while students challenged themselves through grade sport, Language Other Than English (LOTE) and their first Personalised Learning Conversations. A particular highlight was the whole-year excursion to HOYTS, celebrating a successful first semester while strengthening the positive relationships that have developed across the cohort.

Year 10: Preparing for the Future Year 10 have continued to demonstrate increasing maturity and independence as they prepare for the senior school.

This is reflected in their achievements, with 822 Merit Awards, 495 Significant Achievement Awards and 349 Participation Awards, highlighting a cohort committed to excellence across academic, leadership and extracurricular pursuits.

Students embraced leadership, wellbeing and pathway opportunities through programs including BEAT, SALSA, Fusion, Duke of Edinburgh and Aspire to Inspire. They also explored future pathways through the Fast Forward program at Western Sydney University and commenced the important process of selecting their Year 11 subjects. The Year 10 Bowling Excursion provided a well-earned opportunity to celebrate the completion of assessments and strengthen connections across the cohort.

Shared Experiences Throughout the term, both Year 7 and Year 10 enthusiastically participated in the Athletics Carnival, proudly representing their houses with teamwork, resilience and school spirit, with many progressing to Zone and Sydney West competition. Students also contributed

valuable feedback through the NSW Public Schools Survey, helping shape future school improvement. MADD Night was another highlight, with talented Music students from both cohorts showcasing their creativity through outstanding performances.

Professional learning remained a key priority throughout Term 2. The Professional Practice Meeting (PPM) team met on seven occasions, led by Head Teacher Teaching and Learning, Ms Nellie Harb, supporting faculty professional learning and mid-year Professional Development Plan (PDP) reviews across all faculties.

Our Beginning Teachers participated in nine induction sessions facilitated by Ms Harb, focusing on school processes and effective classroom practice, including RIOT, lesson design, ENVOY, learning support and adjustments, and attendance monitoring.

Twenty-five teachers also participated in the Highly Accomplished and Lead Teacher (HALT) program, facilitated by Mr Brendan Crosilla and Ms Amna Rashid, continuing to strengthen their professional practice and leadership capability.

RHHS also proudly supported the next generation of educators by hosting 14 teacher practicum students, three observation practicum students and two School Learning Support Officer (SLSO) practicum students from nine tertiary institutions, including TAFE, while establishing new partnerships with the University of Tasmania and Excelsia University College.

Thank you to the many teachers who generously mentored our practicum students and to Ms Joanne Yun, whose outstanding work as Practicum Coordinator ensured these placements were both meaningful and successful.

Acknowledgments I would also like to acknowledge and thank Mr MobbsGreen, Year 7 Adviser, and Miss Elford, Year 10 Adviser, for their outstanding commitment to their year groups.

Their dedication and care continue to foster positive year group cultures where students feel supported, challenged and encouraged to achieve their personal best.

Looking Ahead As Semester 1 draws to a close, both Year 7 and Year 10 have much to be proud of. We look forward to building on these successes in Semester 2 as our students continue to grow, embrace new opportunities and strive to achieve their personal best.

DEPUTY PRINCPAL’S MESSAGE Ms Conny Mattimore From the Deputy Principal’s Desk Year 9 – Reflections on a busy and successful Term 2 As we wrap up a very busy and productive Term 2, I am pleased to share some highlights and reflections on the exceptional progress and achievements of our Year 9 students.

This term has been packed with events that showcase the diverse talents and dedication of our school community.

One memorable evening was MADD Night, where students presented outstanding performances and showcased amazing projects. It was inspiring to see the creativity and effort on display, truly highlighting the vibrant spirit of our school.

Our students involved in the Goals program, Fast Forward and MECA have continued to demonstrate commitment and growth, benefiting greatly from these tailored learning experiences. Additionally, our personalised learning conversations provided an excellent opportunity for students to review their progress, celebrate their achievements, and set meaningful goals for the remainder of the year.

A particular focus this term has been our Year 9 cohort, who have consistently demonstrated their commitment to doing their best. Their dedication is reflected in some outstanding grade point averages and their positive contributions to our team, Rooty Hill. I have been impressed by the increased maturity and willingness of these students to support their peers and achieve academic excellence.

Furthermore, several Year 9 students have taken the initiative to discuss their career pathways with me, expressing a keen interest in exploring various employment roles. In response, it is my plan to ensure that all students have access to high-quality careers information and opportunities for work experience. These experiences will be invaluable in helping them plan their future career pathways with confidence.

As we look forward to Semester 2, it is important that we begin preparations for the start of senior school for our Year 10 students. I am optimistic that with continued focus and effort, our students will thrive in the challenges ahead.

Overall, Term 2 has been a very successful term. I congratulate all students and staff for their hard work and dedication, and I look forward to another exciting term ahead.

Year 11 – Celebrating growth and leadership As we reflect on a busy but rewarding Term 2, I want to acknowledge the tremendous growth and achievements of our Year 11 students. This term has been filled with opportunities that have helped shape their academic

progress, personal development, and leadership skills.

A key event this term was the Interim Report Assembly, where students had the valuable chance to reflect on their progress so far and set meaningful goals for the remainder of the year. This moment of self-assessment is crucial as they prepare for the challenges ahead, especially as they approach the HSC in Term 4.

Year 11 students have also been actively involved in a range of enriching programs and experiences including Life Ready, U@Uni and UNSW workshops and numerous incursions and excursions which provided them with important skills beyond the classroom.

A highlight of the term was the “Can You Be a Senior Leader?” workshop. This event introduced students to various leadership roles within the school and encouraged them to consider if they would like to take on such responsibilities. It was fantastic to see a high number of students express interest, attend the Senior Leader Induction Program, and apply for leadership positions. We are very excited to soon appoint our new leadership team for 2027 – stay tuned for more updates!

Throughout the term, Year 11 students have grown into mature and confident young people, demonstrating our school values in the way they manage their wellbeing and responsibilities. We have also observed a significant decrease in negative behaviours, which speaks volumes about their commitment and personal growth.

One of my favourite moments this term has been hosting the “Morning Tea with the Deputy.” It has been wonderful to see so many Year 11 students sign up to join me for informal chats. These gatherings provide valuable insights into how we can better support our students as they transition into the world of work or further study — as well as some much-appreciated laughter along the way!

As we approach the final term of Year 11, I encourage all students to continue planning their career pathways and to seize every opportunity to build the skills and capabilities necessary to succeed in the demanding year ahead.

Strong Voices, Strong Futures Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Stories, Successes and Events AFL Indigenous Academy Written by Mihko Chand, Mason Stutchbury and Cooper Muller The AFL Indigenous Academy is a program that is facilitated by AFL NSW. The program is facilitated by Matt Keevil on Tuesday during period 3 as well as Tuesday after school. The purpose of the program is to get First Nations students closer together and reunite young

Aboriginal and Torres Strait islanders in our local community. In the AFL Academy we learn about culture, we learn leadership skills and research successful Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander role models who have had to overcome adversity.

During the program, we participated in a range of activities including: • Training for Naidoc Cup - AFL 9’s competition.

• One page profile on an Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander AFL player as well as other notable people in the community.

— Sam Scobie - Year 10 As a result of the long-term partnership with the AFL Indigenous Academy we have set the following goals for all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.

• We want to play a role in developing the next generation of proud leaders of culture.

• Academic and personal development including student wellbeing is at the core of everything we do.

• We want students and their success to be visible across the life of the school and community.

Through the ongoing mentoring by Matt, Mr Hay and myself we have seen a notable shift in how Aboriginal students conduct themselves and believe this success is only going to grow. - Miss Middlebrook.

Success Shout Out • I entered two of my indigenous artworks into the 2026 ACAS Prize. They have been shortlisted into Hazelhurst Regional Art Gallery, and the award ceremony is coming up soon – Ava Scobie

Dulili is a space for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to yarn with mentors from different companies and dream big about the future. The overall goal is for students to consider the range of options available after they finish high school and that there are many pathways to success, not just one.

During the program, we participated in a range of activities including making a tower out of blutack and straws to demonstrate critical and creative thinking as well as leadership. We got to explore North Sydney and were lucky enough to go on an office tour. Ellie Sweeney, The CEO of NBN addressed the group and shared a valuable insight about teachers and mentors wanting to see us all be successful. It made me feel proud to be Aboriginal.

Three important things I learned were: • Never to be ashamed or embarrassed of my culture.

• Always be proud of where I come from and who I am.

• Don't rush things.

I learned that I should never be ashamed of my culture and I should share it with others. This experience helped me feel closer to my background and feel prouder. The fact I got to bring my friend who is not Aboriginal meant a lot to me because I got to share the experience with her.

I entered my artwork of my little brother in the Blacktown Show and got first place – Jordan Buist

This experience was valuable because I don’t really speak about being Aboriginal and the Dulili program helps me be around other people and speak about it so I don’t feel any different from anyone else.

It helped us develop skills such as teamwork, leadership, communication, problem solving, respect, cultural understanding and resilience. We would like to thank Mr Hay and Miss Middlebrook and all the mentors who were there speaking to us and speaking about our culture.

After participating in this program, I hope to go on camps, go out more and catch the trains to see the city and other areas that I would not otherwise see.

ABCN DULILI Written by Matilda Morris We recently attended ABCN DUILI at NBN North Sydney on Thursday 21 May 2026. The purpose of the program was to bring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students together - standing strong, learning, and growing as one.

Office of Youth Strategic Plan for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Young People Written by Tasia Reynolds The purpose of the program was to contribute to the strategic plan for Young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the Blacktown / Mt Druitt area. 20 students from all year groups sat in a yarning circle and

discussed 5 themes that impacted on the health and wellbeing of young people.

We filled out a wellbeing ice breaker, there was a different category for each sun stream, and we just had to explain our ideal future, they made it optional whether we wanted to share or not. This was helpful as some of us were too shy to share but still wanted to participate in the activity. We got into small table groups and discussed 2 of the 5 following themes.

• Educated and thriving – children and young people have what they need to succeed now and into the future.

• Community connection – children and young people belong in their communities and are proud of who they are.

• Supported and safe – services protect children and young people from harm.

• Healthy and well – children and young people’s physical and mental wellbeing is safeguarded.

• Voice and influence – children and young people are involved in decisions that affect them.

learning intention was to understand the meaning of Reconciliation Week and reflect on how individuals can contribute to respectful relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous Australians. An opportunity for the whole school community to learn, lead and contribute to a mural of puzzle pieces that represent a commitment to Reconciliation.

Throughout the lesson students were asked to reflect on what they knew about Reconciliation, consider why it is necessary and then commit to one way that young Australians can demonstrate Reconciliation.

The point of the discussion was to see how supported and confident students felt within these categories and if they needed more from adults and extended help from SSO, counsellors or even the Government.

The program taught us that youth should have a say and voices should be heard no matter if you're big or small.

Throughout the program, it was youth talking and the leaders listening and taking on feedback where needed in hopes they can make that change for us.

Three important things I learned were: • It's okay to voice your opinion.

• There are people who want to listen to you and make a difference.

• If an adult is listening to a youth instead of it being the other way around, you will be surprised with how much you can learn and gain an understanding of hearing it from someone younger.

My favourite part of the day was being able to be vulnerable and give ideas or criticism without feeling like I was misunderstood and instead feeling like my voice counts and the change I want to make will be looked into.

This experience was valuable because it helps shape young people's perspectives and it changes young people from recipients to active leaders.

It helped us develop skills such as teamwork, communication respect and resilience. We would like to thank the office of youth for supporting our participation in this program. After participating in this program, I hope to see a difference in how the future looks for us.

Reconciliation Week Written by Miss Middlebrook On 27 May, RHHS participated in the Reconciliation Week lesson commemorating the 2026 them “All in”. The

Strength in Numbers Written by Eleah Hewitt On the 12 June, I supported Year 8 students during the wellbeing Strength in Numbers program. This program allowed me to share Aboriginal culture through delivering my Acknowledgement of Country but also by assisting Year 8 to make Johnny Cakes with First Nations inspired toppings…the bonus was that we got to make smores too.

The purpose of the program was to teach all of Year 8 about Aboriginal ingredients but also how fire can be used to nurture and maintain life.

Students were led through a demonstration by Mr Hay who taught everyone how Johnny Cakes were made. All the students were listening so that they could have a go. The students were then invited to scoop and place the batter on the fire and wait for it to cook. While it cooked Miss Middlebrook made tea for everyone using water that had been boiling over the fire.

As a Year 9 student this year, it was great to come back and help with the program as I had attended it as a student the year before. It was easy for me to know how things worked as I knew about the ingredients and how much we needed to replace for the next group.

Three important things I learned were: • That bush food can taste nice.

• Don't knock it till you try it.

• I learned more about my culture.

For me, the skills I got to develop included teamwork, leadership, communication when working with Mr Hay and Miss Middlebrook but most importantly sharing cultural understanding to all students not just Aboriginal kids.

A note from Miss Middlebrook; A goal of mine at RHHS is for students to develop skills that they are then able to use again and transfer into different contexts. Having Year 8 students participate each year and then have selected Aboriginal and Non-Aboriginal students come back to support students when they are in Year 9 shows that the work that we create means a lot and has had a genuine impact. To be able to share knowledge and make connections to strengthen the RHHS community is the highlight for any teacher. To have the Girrawi (Sulfur Crested Cockatoo) watching over us for the two days was a moment to remember too.

SRC Written by Rhian Elyse Dela Cruz The "Back to the Past" event on 21 May was an incredible success, with students enthusiastically dressing in retro fashion styles from the 1960s to the 1980s. Our SRC team successfully raised $148.15 through gold coin donations on the day. It was a great event, as it enabled the students to dress up and relive what school life was like during the disco decades.

Sustainability Week was also a wonderful success, with the SRC team establishing a new and ongoing project by introducing ‘Return & Earn’ bins around the school. This initiative aims to improve sustainability through recycling and encourage students to adopt sustainable habits both at school and at home. A lesson on sustainability was developed and delivered by the SRC team to educate students about the importance of sustainability and the ways our school community can contribute.

During Sustainability Week, lessons were taught using natural lighting on selected days to help save energy across the school. The SRC and Year 7 Ambassadors also worked together to sort rubbish and recycling using rubbish pickers, gloves and rubbish bags to maintain school cleanliness and encourage other students to recycle.

At the end of the week, on Friday 6 June, we held a mufti day with an Earth and natural tones theme to celebrate World Environment Day. In addition, we successfully raised $193.10 through gold coin donations, which will support the Student Trust Fund.

LOTE This term, Stage 4 students have been learning how to introduce family members and describe famous people in Chinese. They have also begun learning how to type in Chinese using a keyboard and have developed basic skills using the Pinyin input method.

To support their cultural understanding, students participated in Dragon Boat Festival craft activities and explored the significance of this important Chinese celebration.

The Languages Faculty congratulates all Stage 4 students on their progress and for reaching another milestone in their language-learning journey.

YEAR 7 Year Adviser Message I would like to congratulate Year 7 on a fantastic second term. It has been so inspiring to see them grow in their confidence and increase their sense of belonging. This term has also been an opportunity for students to practice their regulation and routine as they have successfully settled into high school.

Year 7 have continued to embrace our PERSIST value of the year - Excellence, embodying it across all aspects of their schooling. There have also been many proud moments this term, as our year group have had the opportunity to represent themselves and the school in many events

including the Athletics’ Carnival, Personalised Learning Conversations and the NSW Public Schools Survey.

One of the biggest highlights for me was getting to celebrate Year 7 students successfully starting high school by attending HOYTS to see Toy Story 5. This was one of the first opportunities that the year group had to celebrate off-site and represented the school with pride. It was also fantastic to see our TAS and CAPA students display their creative endeavours at this semester's MADD night.

Congratulations Year 7, you have made me, Ms Douglas and Mrs Andrews proud. We can’t wait to see what Semester 2 has in store.

Ambassador Duties Written by Ziyana Maralang As an ambassador, I was very excited to be able to participate in office duties. The jobs I have been able to do as an office ambassador include going to different classes to deliver messages, taking the canteen bins into the dumpster behind the school gates and we even got a zooper dooper at the end of our duty.

One of the best parts was being with my friends at the front office and being able to get a fresh breath of air outside when delivering messages or notes. Being an ambassador makes me proud because I get the chance to represent the whole grade of Year 7, I get to do what makes me happy and overall, being an ambassador is one of my huge achievements in high school. I’m so excited to be able to get involved in more activities in the future.

Grade Sport Written by Seravana Bose At the start of Term 2 all of Year 7 got to pick what Grade Sport they wanted to do. The options consisted of volleyball, basketball, soccer, gym and football codes.

Grade sport gives students the chance to express their ability in sports and even to have a fun time with peers and friends.

Grade sport is also a chance to participate in physical activity, which helps with keeping ourselves fit and healthy. The teachers for football codes are Mr. Harper and Mr. Marshall. We walk to the Mount Druitt Centre during period 3, it takes about 15 minutes to get to the fields. Once there we put our bags down and start getting into drills, these drills challenge our passing, running and communication. Then we finally get to play a game with our peers and friends. So much fun.

Athletics Carnival Written by Lachlan Furlan At the Athletics Carnival it was the first time going for Year 7 students. It was fun; everyone got to hang out with their friends and compete in events for fun.

The carnival consisted of multiple events including 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, shotput, high jump, long jump, discus, javelin and relay. During the carnival I competed in all of the events previously mentioned and made it to zone for 800m, long jump, discus, and javelin.

It made me proud to represent my school at Zone because I love doing things for my school. I love representing the school, so I tried hard and made it to Sydney West for 800m.

Personalised Learning Conversations Written by Leroy Toth This term, Year 7 got to complete Personalised Learning Conversations for the first time. This is a process where all students had the opportunity to see their GPA’s and have a one-on-one interview with a teacher about their progress at school.

At the start of the day, the entire year group scrambled toward the hall where we received our GPA. The hall was filled with the cheers of the students who were either satisfied or knew where they had to improve. After the initial speech we got told when our Personalised Learning Conversation with a teacher would be, we couldn’t wait to get told what our grades were like.

I really enjoyed my one-on-one conversations with my teacher because I got told that my grades were really good and I got told how I can improve and maintain my grades for Semester 2 in all my subjects.

HOYTS Excursion Written by Vai Halatanu The first time Mr Mobbs-Green and Mrs Andrews announced to our grade we were going to the movies, our whole grades' faces lit up.

On the way to the movies, I was so excited to see Toy Story 5 with my friends, it was a really great time. Our whole grade was so engaged. The movie really showed how it is important to minimize our screen time and go out and be social.

My favourite part of the movie was seeing Buzz and Woody together again. I am so happy that our whole grade got the chance to go out together, it was a great bonding opportunity for our grade.

Primary School Visit Written by Mya Bilgic This term, Year 7 ambassadors were chosen to represent our school by visiting the Year 6 students in the local community and discussing what high school is like. I attended my old primary school with Mr Alhameed, the Year 7 Adviser for 2027.

When I was invited to go to my old school, I was full of joy and excitement, knowing that I could revisit my past teachers and my past friends. When I arrived at the school, all the memories were just flooding back. It also made me

LOTE Written by Daniya Yousuf Learning Chinese has been fun but challenging.

Sometimes, it felt like being on a walking roller coaster. As a beginner, there were a lot of words I found challenging and even hard to say. Miss Sun always encouraged me to try again and to do my best. I really enjoyed playing the different games in LOTE, because it makes learning fun.

The most challenging part is writing in Hanzi, but I hope to improve my skills as I continue learning this year. I want to thank Miss Sun for making class so fun and giving us this opportunity.

NSW Public School Survey Written by Daniya Yousuf Taking the NSW Public School Survey was an enjoyable experience. We all had to go onto our computers and answer questions about how we feel at school.

My friends said they liked that we got to give our honest opinions and that Mr Mobbs-Green and the teachers would listen to our feedback. It was a nice break from our regular work, and it felt cool knowing that Ms Cawsey and our teachers will read what we wrote. I’ve really enjoyed being at high school and can’t wait for our teachers to read our feedback.

YEAR 8 Year Adviser Message

Origin Explorer’s Day Written by Grace Poudel Origin Explorer’s Day was on Tuesday 2 June. The purpose of this fun event was to learn about different work experiences and jobs to help us in the future. The two sessions that were my highlights of the event were Generators and Coordinators.

In Generators, we had to communicate properly with our group to make paper planes, and we had to see which one would fly the best. Then, we had another activity to get all the ingredients for a chocolate cake by negotiating.

In Coordinators, we made a light for people who didn't have light in a different country. To do this, we had to follow the instructions to ensure that we built it correctly. My favourite was Coordinators because we wrote a letter to the person receiving the light. The building part was fun too.

I am incredibly proud of what Year 8 have achieved this past term. They have worked together to build a sense of belonging through our two-day Strength In Numbers program. It was a particular highlight for me to see Year 8 so passionate and engaged when playing Wheelchair Basketball and cooking Johnny cakes at the Yarning Circle.

They have also become increasingly future-focused as they attended the Inspire8 excursion and Origin Explorer Day. It was great to hear so many students thinking about the careers they would like to pursue - keep dreaming big, Year 8!

To top off the term, I was thrilled to discover that 45 Year 8 students achieved a GPA of 4.0 or higher - an increase of 12 students since last semester. This is an outstanding achievement and reflects the dedication, commitment, and hard work that our Year 8 students have shown throughout their learning. Congratulations.

TAS – Textiles Written by Daniya Yousuf

During my Engineering class in TAS, our assessment was to make a propeller powered car. We got the kit that included wheels, wires, a switch, a battery holder and a fan. We had to cut our car base to the shape we wanted then put everything together.

During TAS this semester, I successfully completed the task of designing and creating my plush toy. A valuable skill I learned throughout this semester was mastering different hand sewing techniques to securely join two pieces of fabric together and closing the plush using blanket stitch after stuffing it with polyfil.

My favourite memory from this semester was seeing the class and my plush coming to life along with sharing our experiences as we worked together. Overall, this project taught me a lot of patience, and it gave me an amazing sense of achievement.

I wanted to thank Miss Micallef for teaching me these life skills along with my parents for supporting me throughout this journey of making my plush come to life.

TAS – Engineering Written by John Ayoub

A good skill I learnt during this was understanding the wire connections to make the car work. A highlight of the experience was coming second in the Grand Prix, winning a voucher made it even more exciting. I also really enjoyed working with my teacher Ms Mattimore because she helped guide me through the steps I needed to complete, and the testing phase was helpful because it showed me what needed fixing or adjusting.

Overall, I really enjoyed this class. Building my car, learning new skills, and placing in the top three across multiple classes made the project memorable and rewarding.

MADD Night Written by Chanelle Bernil

During my TAS textiles class, I have achieved the outcome of a successful plush toy. A valuable skill I learnt during my time in class was different varieties of stitching which included cross stitch, running stitch and blanket stitch. While in class we were building memories and one of my favourites was officially being able to do those last stitches on my plush. I hope in the future I will have Miss Micallef again to teach me all these valuable lessons.

MADD night was held on 3 June. The purpose of this event was to showcase the musical, creative, and innovation talents of RHHS students. The highlights of this event included getting to watch all the performances, performing with classmates, looking at art made by students, and watching the videos about innovation. My personal favourite part about MADD night was performing the opening act, Piano Man.

The skills I learnt throughout my practical experience is making sure that there are no risks of food contamination and how to cut different types of foods correctly. Personalised Learning Conversations Written by Hayden Walker Personalised Learning Conversations for Year 8 were held on Thursday 18 June. We had an assembly during period 1, where we found out about our GPA, Above the Lines, Below the Lines, and Attendance percentage.

Period 2 to 4 we had one-on-one interviews with a teacher.

The purpose of this event was to know how we’re going in classes, to see what grades we are getting in each subject, and how to improve for next semester. The highlight for me was to see how good I’m doing in class and to get feedback from the teacher.

Strength in Numbers Written by Oliver Walter Strength in Numbers was held on Thursday and Friday 1112 June, Week 8. We had lots of activities to do, and we were rotating through them each period. On the first day the boys had Cooking On Country, Moove to Groove, MMAD and Macrame. The girls did Drum Circle, TIG (Traditional Indigenous Games), Candle Making and Wheelchair Basketball.

On the second day, the girls and the boys swapped. The purpose of the event was to help students work stronger together, helping each other out and build communication skills. This event was able to bring students together and help them feel more comfortable with their year group.

Some of my highlights were making the podcast during MMAD. It was really fun and helped us open up about what we want for our future. Another really fun activity was wheelchair basketball because it was able to teach us how to play basketball on wheelchairs and work as a team.

This term also included Personalised Learning Conversations, providing students with the opportunity to reflect on their progress, celebrate their achievements and set meaningful goals for the future.

Sport continued to be a major highlight, with Year 9 students representing the school across a wide range of competitions including Rugby Union, the Panthers Trophy, the Volleyball Schools Cup and the Wanderers competition. We are incredibly proud of the commitment, teamwork and determination displayed by all our athletes.

NSW Volleyball Schools Cup Written by Lianah Giacalone On 17-19 June, 12 boys’ and girls’ volleyball teams ranging from Year 7 to 12 competed in the Term 2 NSW Volleyball Schools Cup. Several teams from numerous other schools came together with their strongest teams to compete for their school.

Volleyball Schools Cup is an opportunity for students to learn new skills, cooperate with a team, and socialise and make new friends with other schools and new teammates.

The highlights of NSW Volleyball Schools Cup this term was being able to showcase your skills in volleyball and try your best to try and top the ladder, while also building new friendships with other students from different schools.

YEAR 9 Year Adviser Message What an incredible Term 2 it has been for Year 9!

Throughout the term, our students have embraced every opportunity with enthusiasm, resilience and excellence.

The term began with an exciting Athletics Carnival, where students competed in a range of track and field events, including moving onto Zone Athletics Carnival. Many students also participated in the GOALS program, developing valuable leadership, teamwork and personal growth skills that will continue to benefit them beyond the classroom.

Our talented performers shone brightly at MADD Night, entertaining audiences with their confidence, creativity and dedication. It was wonderful to see so many students sharing their talents and supporting their peers.

Overall, Term 2 NSW Volleyball Schools Cup was an amazing opportunity for students to showcase their skills in volleyball.

Wanderer’s Cup Written by Matilda Morris On 1 June, we competed in the Year 9 and 10 Wanderer’s Cup. Wanderer’s Cup is an opportunity for students to learn new skills, demonstrate our teamwork and leadership skills and building new friendships.

Our team ended up winning the competition and making it through to the finals day which will be held next term. My highlight of that day was playing against schools that I am familiar with, scoring goals and winning against them.

Overall, it was a great day that I hope we get to do in the future years coming and continue winning throughout the competition.

Rugby Union Written by Jyrah Tongamoa

RHHS played a few of their first rugby union games against other schools. So far, the team is undefeated and have not lost a single game. The team also competed in the U16 girls and boys Rugby Union Gala Day. The boys team lost a total of 2 out of 3 games. The girls team won all games except for the grand finale against Arundale.

This event showcases the talents of the students of RHHS through design and creative and performing arts. My personal highlight from MADD night was getting up on stage and performing for 4 songs; Piano Man, Enter Sandman and the two Year 9 Music performances.

Overall, the school's choice of adding Rugby Union to our sport choices was a great decision because it helps us expand our knowledge of different sports. Throughout this whole journey in the new rugby union program, we have demonstrated the Excellence value and Participation value in PERSIST.

GOALS Program Written by Angus Foreshew GOALS is a program where 20 elite Year 9 students were chosen to participate. GOALS started in Week 6 with an excursion to the Ashurst Office. We met our mentors and they helped us set goals. The following week was an online session where our mentors checked in on our progress and if we needed to adjust our goals.

The third week was another online session where we discussed financial goals and how to save money. In our last session, we celebrated our progress by going Strike Bowling and then heading back to the Ashurst Office for our closing ceremony. During this program, all students showed participation, respect and teamwork.

Overall, MADD night shows an excellent demonstration of PERSIST values from the attending students.

Personalised Learning Conversations Written by Haani Muhammad Bakhsh Personalised Learning Conversations are when our year group meets with a teacher to reflect on our learning. We reviewed our grades, set goals, and thought about how the year has gone so far in a workshop with our Year Adviser.

We also looked at our GPAs, acknowledging both our strengths and the areas we need to improve. After that, we each had an individual interview with a teacher. My interview was with Mr Mobbs‑Green, and we talked about my grades and my favourite subjects. Overall, this was a fun experience and made me reflect and think about the future.

YEAR 10 Year Adviser Message Term 2 of Year 10 has been packed with learning, both in the classroom and through the many programs, excursions, and opportunities available to students. It has been fantastic to see Year 10 students engaging positively, demonstrating leadership, and embracing new experiences with enthusiasm and maturity.

It has been wonderful to see so many students representing the school through programs such as BEAT, SALSA, Duke of Edinburgh, Fusion, and university engagement opportunities. These experiences have allowed students to develop their leadership, communication, and teamwork skills while building confidence and strengthening connections with their peers.

Miss Daynah Elford Year 10 Adviser

Fast Forward Written by Jacy De Leon and Noah Germain This term, a group of Year 10 students participated in an excursion to the Kingswood campus of Western Sydney University. Students took part in a variety of activities, ranging from a practice lecture to interactive learning sessions with Western Sydney University student ambassadors.

Year 10 students also had the chance to explore the campus, including the engineering labs, tutorial rooms, and surrounding grounds during their break. As a group, we can say that our favourite parts of the excursion were meeting the knowledgeable mentors, asking questions, and exploring the campus and everything it has to offer. One of the students who participated in the excursion, Asimina Halatanu, expressed that she felt welcome in the environment and was actively engaged with the information and advice shared.

A huge thank you to Mr Alhameed, who supported us throughout the program and helped everything run smoothly. We would also like to thank the PDHPE teachers for supporting the Year 8 students and encouraging us to step outside our comfort zones.

Finally, a massive shout-out to the university students who trained us. They taught us how to be effective leaders, communicate clearly, and engage Year 8 students in a way that was fun, respectful, and meaningful. We could not have done it without their guidance.

Beat Mentor Program Written by Amelie Foreshew Last term, a group of students from our year took part in the BEAT Peer Mentoring Program, a full-day workshop focused on the dangers of vaping and asthma awareness.

We then became peer leaders and taught Year 7 students across three lessons.

We gained valuable knowledge and university terminology, from understanding the difference between a lecture and a tutorial to learning about pathways into university. On behalf of all the students who participated, we would like to thank Miss Elford and Ms Cawsey for making this opportunity possible, and the WSU student ambassadors who taught us and showed us the ladder we can begin climbing towards our future.

We learned about asthma, including its symptoms, triggers, and how to help someone experiencing an asthma attack.

We also explored the health risks of vaping, peer pressure, its long-term effects, and healthy decision-making when faced with situations involving vaping. Teaching the Year 7 students was both fun and rewarding. One of the highlights was a group activity where students stood in a circle and came up with ways to politely decline a vape.

SALSA Leaders Written by Alexis Naidu and Adut Thon

It was hilarious to hear the creative and humorous responses they shared. By the end of the program, I realised I had learned much more than facts about asthma and vaping. I developed skills in teaching, explaining ideas clearly, and keeping a class engaged. Thank you to the teachers who selected us for the program and made it possible by leading the workshop, organising the sessions, trusting us with their classrooms, and allowing us to take over their lessons.

The SALSA program was held in Term 2, Week 4 and ran for four weeks. Each week, Year 10 leaders taught Year 8 students about nutrition, physical activity, screen time, and making balanced decisions. The program ran in rotations, including small-group discussions, activities, quizzes, and scenario challenges. One group decided to create a rap about physical activity.

They were surprisingly committed and wanted it to sound at least decent. The funniest part was when one student took over as the “beatboxer” and used the classic “boots and cats” rhythm the entire time. The group tried to stay serious, but every time he started, everyone lost it. One of the most enjoyable moments was during the group discussions when the Year 8 students began sharing their own healthy habits and giving each other tips.

At first, many were distracted and saw it as free time, but once one student participated, everyone suddenly had something to add. The whole class had fun, and it felt like a real conversation rather than a lesson. Seeing them connect, laugh, and encourage each other made the session feel worthwhile.

Being a SALSA leader taught us how powerful peer influence can be. Students listen differently when the message comes from someone close to their age. We learned how to guide discussions, keep a group focused, and explain ideas clearly without sounding like teachers. It also made us reflect on our own habits.

Fusion Year 10 Program Written by Cierra Saipaia The Year 10 Fusion Program brought together a mix of students for a fun and engaging day full of teamwork, challenges, and games. The program involved a series of activities, with table groups working together to complete each challenge.

Some of the highlights included the funny moments during group activities, the excitement of trying new challenges, and the opportunity to work with friends. Throughout the program, we developed our social skills through games that encouraged us to communicate and collaborate with our classmates.

These activities helped us become more confident and comfortable interacting with others. We were also supported by several Year 11 students who assisted the teachers and helped run the activities throughout the day.

On behalf of all participants, we would like to thank the teachers and Year 11 students who helped organise and run the program and gave us the opportunity to be involved.

Year 10 Bowling Excursion Written by Asimina Halatanu and Namisha Prasad The Year 10 Bowling Excursion took place in Week 9 of Term 2, 2026. The event was organised to bring Year 10 together and celebrate the completion of our assessments.

The excursion ran as a half-day trip, with students walking to the local Timezone before splitting into groups and heading to their bowling lanes.

Teachers supervised each lane to ensure everyone participated safely and fairly, and many even joined in the fun. The day was a memorable and enjoyable experience, filled with humorous moments, friendly competition, and plenty of encouragement between classmates. It gave us the opportunity to create positive memories, support one another, and strengthen our connections outside the classroom.

We would like to thank the teachers for their efforts in organising the excursion and ensuring everything ran smoothly. Their support, encouragement, and patience helped make the day enjoyable for everyone. Overall, the excursion was a great way to celebrate our hard work and come together as a year group.

Subject Selection Written by Namisha Prasad Choosing Year 11 subjects is an essential part of preparing for senior school, and this term we were given multiple opportunities to understand our options more clearly. Our senior leader teachers held assemblies that explained each subject, brought out head teachers for each faculty to elaborate and give a summary of all the topics that will be taught.

Teachers outlined assessment styles, what subjects align with what work force and identified types of students that would succeed in each area. These sessions helped us think about our interests and what we are truly capable of, as well as which subjects connect to our future careers we might want to explore.

The information also encouraged us to step out of our comfort zone to consider different subjects we haven’t tried before with a stronger sense of independence. It was interesting learning about past student’s careers and what they wanted to pick for subjects, whether they wanted to do it for fun or because they had a clear plan for themselves.

Overall this process taught us to think through our informed decisions, and we are grateful for all the teachers and staff who organised the assemblies and provided us guidance to help us choose the right subjects that will support our successes in Year 11 and beyond.

YEAR 11 Year Adviser Message As we approach the end of term, we would like to acknowledge some of the important opportunities and initiatives that have taken place across our school community this term for Year 11.

Senior Leadership This term, students participated in the Senior Leadership Training process, which included training and interviews with the speeches and election held next term as the final selection process. This was an important opportunity for students to develop their leadership skills, represent their peers and contribute positively to the school community.

We commend all students who took part for the confidence, commitment and enthusiasm they demonstrated throughout the process.

U@Uni Students involved in the U@Uni program with UTS also attended their orientation this term. This was a valuable opportunity for students to engage with university life, build confidence in their future pathways and gain insight into further education opportunities. Programs such as these play an important role in helping students broaden their aspirations and connect their school learning to future study and career possibilities, students should keep an eye out for other opportunities coming up in the next few terms.

NSW Public Schools Survey Year 11 students were also invited to complete the Public Schools Survey, providing them with an opportunity to share their experiences, ideas and perspectives about school life. Student feedback is an important part of school improvement, and these surveys allow student voice to help shape future directions within the school. We value the input of our students and appreciate the thoughtful feedback they provide to help strengthen our school community.

We are proud of the way our students continue to engage in opportunities that support leadership, future pathways and school improvement, and we thank our students, staff and families for their ongoing support throughout the term.

Some things to look forward to next term: Crossroads and Crossroads Camp Students will have the opportunity to engage in meaningful learning whether at school or in a camp environment. It is always a valuable experience that encourages students to reflect, build confidence and strengthen connections with their peers.

2027 Senior Leadership Election Senior Leaders will be presenting their leadership and public speaking skills at the election where students and staff will vote on the different Senior Leadership rolls on offer.

Australian Catholic University On 12 June, 25 Year 12 students attended the UTS Health and Sport Discovery Day. Students were able to explore career and study pathways in Nursing, Midwifery and Sports Science with workshops including Life in the Hospital, 10 minutes in the life of a sports scientist and catching babies.

LIBRARY Written by Miss Hamilton This term in the library, students have been busy studying for exams and assessments. Students have also been enjoying board games, chess, and watching the World Cup during lunch time.

Term 2 has also seen the introduction of a new permanent display, the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Knowledge Centre. This is a curated selection of books by, for and about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people that has been created in consultation with Aboriginal students and staff here at RHHS. The display is always changing as we have a wide and evergrowing selection of books to choose from. You can also stay up to date with the latest news with the Koori Mail newspaper which is a feature of the display.

Next term is shaping up to be action-packed, as the library celebrates Science Week and Book Week.

CAPA Year 7 High Potential Visual Arts Workshop In Week 3, some of our High Potential Year 7 students participated in a mixed media art making workshop where they designed and created their own LEGO minifigure selfportraits.

Using gouache paint, oil pastel and other drawing materials, students explored colour, texture and composition while developing their artmaking skills and creative ideas.

The workshop gave students the opportunity to experiment with mixed media techniques and express aspects of their personality and interests through art. The finished artworks were creative, colourful and full of character. Well done to all students involved.

My Brilliant Career Excursion CAPA and VET Entertainment students recently attended an exciting excursion to the Roslyn Packer Theatre to see the acclaimed musical ‘My Brilliant Career’.

The performance brought Miles Franklin’s iconic Australian story to life through engaging music and powerful performances. Students gained valuable insight into the performing arts industry while experiencing a professional theatrical production.

Combined Schools Musical – Mary Poppins In Week 7, High Potential students from Years 7-9 showcased their singing, dancing and acting talents in The Arts Unit’s Combined Schools Musical – ‘Mary Poppins’.

These students demonstrated their commitment through weekly rehearsals, with the occasional extended rehearsal, alongside their dedication to memorising and finessing the music and choreography to Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.

They represented RHHS on the performance day at Nepean CAPA High School, putting all their energy into two extremely successful performances.

Through this experience, students were able to develop their singing, dancing and acting skills, and gain an understanding of the requirements that come along with involvement in a musical. Many of them look forward to the next musical!

CAPA/TAS – MADD Night MADD Night transformed the school into a gallery and performance space, with students sharing their talents in Music, Art, Drama and Dance. TAS projects were also on display, giving visitors the chance to celebrate the creativity, skill and hard work of students across multiple faculties.

Drama Club Written by Mr Mangali Congratulations to all our Drama Club members who have submitted their audition videos for the plays they have been rehearsing. Our Drama Club has grown tremendously this year, with our senior members leading by example and mentoring our junior performers as they build confidence and express themselves through acting.

Throughout the rehearsal process, students have worked diligently to interpret scripts, develop their characters, and bring each performance to life on stage. A special congratulations goes to our junior members, many of whom have stepped into the spotlight for the very first time. We are incredibly proud of everyone's hard work and dedication, and we're keeping our fingers crossed for some great audition results!

HSIE Geography Competition On Wednesday 13 May, 18 students from Years 8–10 took part in the Australian Geography Competition.

The competition challenged students to apply their geographical knowledge and skills to a range of questions covering physical and human geography, environmental issues, mapping, data interpretation, and global current events. Students were required to analyse maps, graphs, photographs, and geographical data, while demonstrating critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

The competition provided an excellent opportunity for students to extend their understanding of the world around them and to engage with real-world geographical issues.

Participants should be commended for their enthusiasm, commitment, and willingness to challenge themselves through this national competition.

We congratulate all students who took part and thank them for representing our school with pride and upholding our PERSIST values.

History Competition On Monday 1 June, 26 students from Years 7-10 took part in the Australian History competition. The competition challenged students to apply their historical knowledge and skills through a range of questions exploring significant people, events, and developments from the past. Students were required to analyse historical sources, images, maps, and timelines, demonstrating their ability to interpret evidence and think critically about the past.

The competition provided an excellent opportunity for students to deepen their understanding of history and to engage with the people, events, and ideas that have shaped our world.
