infinite happiness

“Music is the ticket to a world of infinite happiness,” is how DJ Italo Valdettaro views music, taking the challenge of pursuing a career in the arts regardless of what others said. “I think we are here to do what we love, and those who do are truly happy.”

Ever since he was a child, he’d walk around with a pair of headphones on everywhere he went. He didn’t know he wanted to pursue his passion for creating electronic music until 2014 when he played with a DJ mixer for the first time and fell in love with it. He began playing every weekend, and eventually saved up enough money to buy his own. “I knew that playing music was what I loved because it felt great.”

Italo describes being on stage as a mixture of different emotions: good and bad. But he always remembers what his friend and mentor Tollinchi Love once told him: “You’re going to be nervous until you press play. Once you’ve pressed play, you connect with your audience and the moment begins.” Italo tells me that even professionals get nervous, but as soon as he clicks the on-button, everything goes away. It’s a feeling of infinite happiness and excitement.

One of his most beautiful experiences as a DJ was playing for a little boy with Down syndrome.

When the boy saw Italo on his machine, he immediately had to try it out. Teaching the boy how to use his mixer was one of the most gratifying moments of his life. The amount of joy was incredible. He saw in him that anyone can follow their passions, no matter what obstacles are thrown in their way.

For Italo, music isn’t just a profession, it’s a lifestyle. He wants others to know that outside opinions

shouldn’t influence what you decide to do with your life. It’s your life: live it the way you want to. It’s better to try, fail, and learn from it than simply avoiding taking risks. “People should be free to do what they love without being judged for it,” he says. So, to everyone who thinks music is for those who can’t do anything better in their lives, when was the last time you risked something massive for something you love?
