PRESIDENT'S REPORT This, my last report as President, gives me an opportunity, not to look back to when there was no Porsche Club, but forward to the new Committee that will be elected on 27th April and the exciting events that the outgoing Committee have already organized and the ones that the incoming team will be crganizing using their talents and fresh thinking for new concepts.

Over the few months that I have been President, I have had a lot of pleasure and enjoyment out of the Club, both at our social and sporting events as I am sure all other members have.

I hope that those who have not been able to come to our competitive events in the past will be able to do so in the future - they are certainly the most enjoyable activities of the Club- and 1 like most others, find driving a Porsche the way it should be driven a lot of fun.

With Winter coming on and the snow season with it, the time to think of road safety and advanced driving has come again. An ideal opportunity to brush up on the basics will be in May when we have our day at Calder with Frank Gardner.

I hope I shall see you all at the Annual General Meeting in April, remember, this is the night when the Club needs the support of all its members.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING Tuezday, 27th April, 1976

We are anxious that all Club members be present at this meeting.

This is our first A.G.M. and the Committee is anxious to see and hear from all members on this night. No doubt we have some members who would like to express views as to the conduct and nature of the Club and how it might be improved. The views of these people will be welcomed and, in fact, should any of you feel disposed to assist in an executive capacity within the Club, your nomination for Committee would be enthusiastically received. As nominations close on 13th April, 1976, a phone call to a Committee member is all that is needed to ensure acceptance of your nomination.

Please remember that all positions will be declared vacant and that some members of the present Committee are unable to accept a nomination in the forthcoming election. It is obvious, therefore, that new blood is needed and the prime requirement is that one is willing and prepared to put some time into Club management.

FRANK GARDNER AD VANCED DRIVING DAY AT CALDER Saturday, 29th May, 1976

For a limited number of our members we have been able to arrange this special day at Calder. Frank Gardner personally will conduct the course and provide the tuition for approximately twenty Porsche owners.

The cost per person is $20 and judging by the comments of one or two people who have attended the course already, it is an excellent investment and a most rewarding experience. Should you wish to attend would you please tear off the coupon provided and return together with your cheque by 30th April, 1976.

Further details of the day will be made available to those wishing to attend as they come to hand. Please indicate on the coupon the preferred time of your lesson our first booking is at 9.00 a.m. Crash helmets are not required.

MOTOR SPORT AT WINTON Sunday, 1st August, 1976

The Club has arranged with the owners of the above circuit to secure some for our exclusive use, for a day of varied motor sport.

This will be the first time the Club has organized a competition event and we intend that only Porsches will be eligible to compete. It will be conducted as a closed meeting with perhaps, individual timed laps, slaloms and other interesting but fairly low key events.

No doubt it will provide the opportunity for pupils of the Frank Gardner school to demonstrate their skills.

PAST EVENTS PORSCHES WITH WINE & CHEESE AT HAMILTONSON 1ST MARCH For the hundred or so people in attendance Alan Hamilton provided a wonderful nights entertainment with the best in cars, wine and cheese being available for all to enjoy.

Club members and their friends were privileged to be the first group in Australia to see the new 924 model and what an impressive vehicle it is For most prospective Porsche owners the car provides adequate standards of performance, safety and comfort and is only surpassed in these areas by the other more expensive Porsche models. .. ./cont'd. /3.

PORSCHES WITH WINE & CHEESE - corit'd,

Other cars in a similar category to the 924 will find it a very difficult competitor. I was particularly impressed with its cockpit layout and the utilisation of space within the car itself. As previously reported it apparently sets new standards in handling.

The acceptance of the car by the discerning group present on the night augurs well for its success, and evidently our enthusiasm was shared by most viewers at the recent Melbourne Motor Show.

With the lifting of quotas in 1977, we frust Hamiltons and their new agents will be able to provide us with an ever increasing source of members through this new model.

The Club is again indebted to the Hamilton organization for its support and the effort involved in making this occasion such a memorable one.

BITING THE DUST AT BROADFORD ON 21ST MARCH

Here with the Triumph Sports Owners Association, we swallowed our own dust through most of an otherwise excellent days motor sport. We had a good enfry of 21 cars and, in fact, provided more competitors than the organizing Club itself.

It can be seen from the results that apart from the fact that Porsches took out the first two places overall, our members' times were, generally speaking, better than the Triumphs. This was quite notable as not only had members not seen the venue before, but most have not competed in this type of event previously. On the other hand however, I did feel that our cars were considerably better equipped to cope with the circuit than the Triumphs.

Bruce Harris proved to be our quickest driver and certainly showed his experience and expertise in the 2.7- 911 Sportomatic. Rumour has it, however, that he is about to take delivery of a new Autocrosse Special,equipped with fatter wheels and tyres and a high first gear.

The fastest among our 356 owners was John Edwards, whose Speedster can be seen under full power near the top of the enclosed picture page, along with the fastest 912 being Brian Clearihan churning up the dust - see the foot of the page.

It was interesting to watch the improvement in times as the day progressed. The greatest benefit seemed to be derived by those completely inexperienced in this type of competition e.g. David Clarks times improved dramatically from start to finish, his final time being a creditable 62.55 sec. .. ./cont'd.

We hope that those members who attended but did not compete enjoyed the day and trust that after a day with Frank Gardner and some further practise at Winton they will feel confident to "have a go". A measure of the enthusiasm of some of our members can be gauged by the attendance of Max Errington, who travelled from Traralgon to be present.

I think all members present on the day would agree that T.S.O;A. organised this event with skill and efficiency. It is obvious that they conduct their motor sport responsibly and take pride in their performance. I believe their timing equipment is beyond compare in Victorian Club Motor Sport and we do thank them for a great day's fun.
