PETTMAN ART COMMUNITY This project is to renovate part of the Cliftonville area in Margate and to adapt the Pettman building, a landmark of this neighbourhood, to new use, including both open spaces and buildings. The project aims to infuse new life into the Pettman building, transforming it into a new Art School that will constitute the heart of a new community. The activities of this community include the creation of a new Art School inside the Pettman building, as well as new residential accommodation for artists and workshops in the building’s vicinity. In addition, a small new theatre building will provide the area with a new landmark it is a challenge to create a harmonious whole from the existing building fragments and new elements. An opportunity to revitalize the society and economy of Margate.

CITY RESEARCH
Planning research and status analysis
The figures on the claiming of legacy benefits in Margate are dated . They are the last published statistics of unemployment rates as a percentage of the population. these statistics can often be a good indicator of the prosperity of the town and how hard it could be to get employment in the area.The rate of unemployment in Margate is both higher than the average for Kent and higher than the national average, suggesting that finding a job in this area maybe hard. The rate of claiming any benefit (which includes in work benefits) is more than 25% higher in Margate than the national average, suggesting that many people maybe under employed or on a low salary.

Cliftonville planning This is a ‘Conservation Area’ of outstanding architectural heritage. It's Regency and Victorian buildings with the typical bay windows have been relatively well-preserved making Cliftonville a characteristic example of a nineteenth-century resort town. After decades of economic decline, the area now benefits from its proximity with Turner Contemporary and the city centre of Margate, which enjoys excellent rail connections with other cities of Kent. Combined with the area’s beautiful coastline, these characteristics give Cliftonville a remarkable potential for growth. Artists and craftsmen are currently playing an important role in the regeneration of the area, and the Pettman building is developing into a ‘creative hub’.

"ARCHITECTURAL FORMS IS A BOUNDARY, DEMARCATING TERRITORY RATHER THAN REPRESENTING IT"
The continuous architectural language creates an illusion of exteriority, The layering of spaces also intensifies the feeling of ambiguity. Upon entering the community, one experiences a city within a city. The boundary between street and school is blurred which decrease the sense of oppression of a solid building. People walk into the community unconsciously and interact with it.

Spatial Concept Ground floor of extension space is made of two continuous dimensions of arches to create an unfolded spatial space. placed outdoor shaded seats for cafe guests, next to a small outdoor garden.
Exterior corridor The outdoor staircase is designed between the Pettman building and theatre which provides great sunlight and a rest platform for both visitors and users as a "wander space" according to the research of British society, people enjoy organising their lives around outdoor spaces. It is formed by a continuous upward corridor as a place of quietness, reflection and introspection, a haven for society. Wander space Form 1

Ground floor and exploded drawing The cafe is designed at the corner of the southwest area were open to the main street for people to access without entering the community. Shaded by the veranda space to avoid west sunlight.

Lecture hall The design of the extension building refers to the element of Victorian and Georgian style where cover most of the housings in Margate. Vertical, arch, asymmetrical, and translate into a modern design language with the upside-down arch wood strip.

The Skin is a multifunctional covering structure inspired by a traditional brick pattern that is connected with the historical volume. It is made of hanging perforated aluminum plate which allow a certain amount of light enter the theatre and create an unique shadow to interior. it is also a barrier that separates the theatre from the outside world, designed as a contemporary, technologically, aesthetically and economically appropriate theatre. DESIGN The continuity of time and space is taken as the main context of architecture. Inclusiveness and permanent adjustability therefore become key qualities. The project interacts on both local and supra-local levels and presents a low threshold towards the neighbourhood and the city.

DAILY WITHIN COMMUNITY Urban sociology
Art community provides multiple areas opened to the public, local people and tourists can enjoy the activities within the school, where they can easily find a place for studying, relaxing or socializing, considering the situation in Margate, I seek to stimulate and guide the urban public activities. On the other hand, with the rise of multi-culture, people expected different kinds of public spaces in different usage, therefore, I am expecting a multi-functional design instead of a single-use purpose space.

Atrium space is set between the Pettman building and extension as a connection and transition area. Provided natural skylight through skylight window for social encounter activities. Also act as a buffer area for ventilation and heat flow purpose.

NCCA CREATIVE CENTRE The project is to accommodate a new home for the National Centre for Circus Arts, the UK’s preeminent institution for the development of circus arts education and performance, on a prominent seafront site in the Cliftonville area of Margate. the programme requires investigation of an urban hybrid typology that can accommodate the native citizen alongside urban nomad in a place that is both culturally progressive and economically sustainable, melding performance and production, bridging divides between Margate’s more economically disenfranchised population with the emerging community of creatives and cosmopolitan daytrippers

FORM OF MOVEMENT The concept is inspired by the movement of circus performance, the fluctuation of flow and the stripe of drama costume. a flexible, silk-like outer layer that connects two separate buildings as a landmark. In ancient Greek urban planning, public open spaces were always constructed first. They should be levelled and paved, and then filled with public buildings, temples, culinary facilities and shops. Similarly, the public space around the design and the roof, which is aggregated by the soft outer skin, not only gives the community an aesthetic appeal but also provides people an unimpeded place for daily interaction and community activities. Far from being occupied by a technological base or a beautiful vehicle for commercial activity, it is an “Old Market of Athens” that genuinely cares about the emotions of its citizens, invites them to participate, interact in open spaces and cultivate the culture of the community.

One idea stood out as a legitimation of this landmark: the concept of togetherness, joint ownership, easy and open access for all. To achieve an iconic based on these notions we wished to make the school accessible in the widest possible sense, by laying out a ‘carpet’ of horizontal and sloping surfaces on top of the building. This carpet has been given an articulated form, related to the cityscape. It is achieved through horizontal extension and not verticality. The conceptual basis of the design, and the final building, is a combination of these three elements – flowability, accessibility and the carpet.

Dancing studio There seems to be a contradiction between the art school as a “landmark” and the personal and cathartic artistic activity that takes place within it. However, I believe that the duality of the generosity of the site and the intimacy of the auditoriums and study area can be resolved if the individual functional units are developed in separate parts of the building with proper management. This human scale of the individual cultural units is ensured by the two independent areas placed on the elevated cliff overlooking the sea. This way the school and the stage, which operate at different times, different areas while ensuring daily use of audience, visitor and student.

ROAMING SPACE The interior treatment continues the integrity of the exterior of the building. The space has become the core of the interior creation. The surface of the built-in box is designed to be consistent with the dramatic space of the showcase atmosphere of an art academy by the application comparison of concrete, grc, steel, wood and other materials. Through rhythm and through composition. Architecture and circus art share the same quest for rightness. circus art is communion. A pleasure shared is a pleasure increased tenfold. Architecture heightens the experience of sharing.

The arena stage theatre is providing over 3oo seats surrounding the stage for audiances. the stage is design under the regulation of circus art, with professional rigging and aerial equipment. Roof provide natural and soft sunlight to allow daily use of performance training.
Townscape view
The lively cultural main square between the buildings has the potential to become an important meeting place for Margate residents. Visitors are invited to wander around the school and gather to enjoy the incredible sea view.
The school itself is part of the public space and landscpae and the path surrounding along the building facade provides a varying experience for passanger and user, derived from the ground to the roof around the building

The facade of building is designed with GRC materior , with white cement and fiberglass in their composition. the GRC modules are pivoting to create the form of school the matte texture of the material itself is very aesthetic, and the glass curtain wall forms a contrast between reality and imaginary, enhancing the visual impact and artistic expression. GRC was an integral to developing a double curved surface. This building is comprised of over 1600 unique panels ranging from 40sqm to 8sqm. Re- awakening of the spirit of craftsmanship redundant in the age of automation. The combination of these two material also mixed with the layered material which have function as protection to the heat and rain, enhance the tropical concept of this project. In addition, the iconic form designed by the architect makes this building easier to maintain.

The purpose of the design is to allow the people who carry the memories to enjoy a better setting and to make their memories last forever. That is why this place is not only Our inspiration comes from the a gazebo and a showroom for rest and divergent and irregular shapes of exhibition but also a place for people to think snowflakes. And the rolling mountains about themselves and remember their loved and beautiful surroundings of the Alps. ones. Therefore, this project was named SI JING TING at the beginning of the design, which means it is a poetic and quiet place for contemplation and commemoration. It is difficult for human beings to understand the world as a whole in the whole world, only if we get rid of the environment can we understand it. In this sense, architecture can be understood as the epitome of the world, it represents a boundary through which we can feel the existence of the world. Therefore, the main elements of design are natural light, holiness, primitiveness, purity, wrongness, silence, virtuality and reality. Through the design of introducing
natural light into the atrium to create a circular all-weather zenith AND ensure that the bay window faces the hospice.
When we first saw the site, we wanted to keep this land intact, so we initially envisioned placing the pavilion underground, using landscape architecture as the main form of design to achieve integration with the mountains and the environment.
The main building is placed underground to provide a comfortable and spacious sheltered space with stable temperature and isolate external influences, creating a more tranquil and sacred space.

By changing the height of the roof and the distortion of the building, the building and its surroundings are further integrated.
Finally, an integrated architectural form is formed, the pavilion and the landscape tower become a whole, and all three parts of the building are well lit after the skylight is introduced.

People first enter the space from the flat entrance of the belvedere. Under this scale, the sense of space and the sense of self merge. The light shines from behind and people follow the shadow into the space. Then you will see after going down the ramp into the underground space, at the moment of the big skylight, I left the experience just now and instead concentrated on meditating in the sky-filled space. The circular skylight in the atrium introduces beautiful natural light and provides a platform for tourists and locals to socialise, gather, relax and sit.

All-weather skylights will naturally enter the room. Rainwater is first absorbed by the vegetation on the roof. The rainwater flowing into the room will fall on the interior vegetation. The remainder of the interior will pass through the slope of the building's floor, allowing excess water to flow into the atrium vegetation and penetrate the ground.
The contemplative space is a space composed of a series of cylinders, leading to one of the meditation rooms. The upper part of this space opens a circular skylight to enter the sky, introducing beautiful views of the mountains and the sky, and the hanging wall runs along the edge of the skylight, falling vertically, everything that enters here is slowly and peacefully dissolved by the solid and constant force and sense, the dust settles and everything returns to silence.

CREEK-FRONT APARTMENT This project is to develop a series residential area in Faversham where is recognised as a medieval market town. roughly halfway between Sittingbourne and Canterbury on the A2, the old Roman road linking Dover with London. The town has evolved to provide visitors and residents a warm welcome and choice of experience and a place to enjoy the fruits and local produce the area is famous for. There are over 300 listed buildings in Faversham, recording its extraordinary industrial past. The project aim to revive Faversham while dealing with flooding issue, cooperating with other groups who are responsible for other sites of creek area.

DESIGN The design focus on providing a modern, harmonious and mix-used housing area under the risk of flooding while reviving the creek area and rebuild its own charater. Faversham is an important transition area between London and east England. Therefore it is a wonderful choice to settle for communter, not to mention it is also an extraordinarily ancient market town rich in history for tourism and retirement.
To co-exist with the flooding and other potential environment problems, living area is lifted to first floor while activity area is located at 1 meter above ground level. The residence complex combine with housings, shops, gym, bar, spa and a skatepark where provide various of activities for young to old range of people

HIGHLINE HOUSING DESIGN Waterfront apartment has six buildings distributed in two lines of two parallel to the riverline. In each of them there are six apartments of approximately each arranged in three levels, two per level, giving a total of 6 units. All, with a magnificent view of the river and embankment line. The concept starts from the reinterpretation of the embankment and the liberation of view of the departments, where each line of buildings is staggered with horizontal displacements, which provides a volumetric game to the facade and generates large terraces to each department, achieving a space of transition between the exterior and the interior.

The project is to design a 54classes cover 10-12 grades providing 2700 seats for students. and it is located at Nanshan district, Shenzhen, China. The current condition is mostly natural hills and temporary structures. The site has partial Elevation difference, surrounded by mountains. The total land area is 41,313 square meters, of which 538\.03 square meters is agricultural land and 40,804.77 square meters is construction land. The biggest challenge for this project is the difference in height of the terrain, so we started by combining the layout of the school playground, teaching and living areas and the relationship with the city. The goal is to blend the campus into the nature and provide a pleasant studying environment for students under the high density construction.

The whole school is linked by a vibrant ecological spine that runs through the school, from which the teaching areas disperse, leading students to different teaching areas with courtyards and sports facilities. Major classrooms are located in the southernmost and northernmost buildings, with the senior school located in the northernmost building to save time from the dormitories to the classrooms, and the specialist and elective classrooms located in the middle three buildings to form a centralised and enclosed teaching space, maximising the time taken to get from the major classrooms to the elective and specialist classrooms and avoiding congestion. The space allows students to stop and socialise on the main corridor.

The general classrooms and offices form an L-shaped building that encloses the campus space towards the playground; the elective classrooms and the specialist classrooms form three small individual blocks that are staggered to form a rich and varied courtyard space; the whole teaching and living area is linked by a vibrant ecological axis of the campus
STEP 5 tridimensional composite
A large amount of courtyard space is left between the buildings, underneath which can be used for large-span functional spaces such as public teaching rooms; the public teaching rooms are located at the entrance level to facilitate community sharing, while being vertically integrated with the teaching buildings for easy access
STEP 6 Ecological greening
A small woodland is created in the southwest corner of the site, leaving green space for the city; the courtyard and roof are shaped into vertical greenery to create a pleasant environment; the building is roofed with a lightweight roof and solar panels to form an internal electricity system, reducing the campus' carbon emissions

LING LONG HOUSING Shenzhen, China
The social housing competition project is meant to addressing the housing difficulties of the city's new citizens, young people, basic public service workers and other groups in Shenzhen with 12m², 18m² and 27m² three types of different units to customize for various groups of people. Ling long means ingeniously and delicately wrought. Under the mini scale housing, we intend to provide high quality living experience and afforable housings through architectural dimention and interior dimention. Design focus on flexiable layout, variable furniture, prefabricated design, intelligent design and sustainability.

Hexagonal structure originated from nature, an easy combination and stable structure, compared with rectangular, hexagonal area circumference ratio is larger and save materials
The octagon has a smaller surface area and a larger volume for the same plane area.
Common " Match box" units has became the resident trend in the world
Example: 36 households per floor, there are 26 floors with a total of 936 households. 438m³ of material can be saved.

In the case of three storeys with three households each, a depth of 3.6m and a wall thickness of 200mm, the square section consumes 64.8m³ of concrete, while the octagonal section consumes 60.588m³, saving 4.212m³ of material.

The basic hexagonal unit is generated from the concept, but the interior plane remains the “matchbox” principle
Features: two types of units appear to achieve interlocking, no homogeneity can be achieved
Dividing the unit into a main space and an auxiliary space (bathroom, etc.) to obtain a pure main space and an additional auxiliary module that can be attached
