Charlotte Cultural Arts Center The site exists in the expanding city of Charlotte and NODA the historical art and entertainment. A cultural center gathers people to experience regional cultural, and for Charlotte that’s art, entertainment and beer. Taking inspiration from UNC Charlotte College of Arts + Architecture, this center focuses on the programs of art, music, dance, and theater. The address the need for galleries and performance spaces that privilege the local artists.

“Create a space that compliments creativity.

Maker Space A makerspace is a studio that allows people that have access to equipment such as 3d printers or laser cutters in order to maker whatever they can. With this in mind, I first thought about space diagrammatically, as a box. Most rooms can reduced to a rectanglar prism or box. This form is can seem rigid form; personally I think areas like this are restricting, and different angles and curves are more dynamic, fluid, and less restricting. All threee building schemes become dynamic in order to create more fluid space that compliments creative thinking.

Druid Hills Library The use of rotated grids in my library design helps the building connect to standard day lighting strategies while connecting with the site. The site resides on 1000 Norris Avenue in Charlotte, North Carolina, which is on a city grid that rotates away from the cardinal directions. By using the city grid and a grid orthogonal to the cardinal directions, it provides certain spaces directly with north light and allows it to approach the corner of the site with ease. North light is the most even light throughout the day, so it ideal for nice reading space. However the grids that used were too far apart in rotation, causing me to split the design into 2 different forms that needed a connection. As a solution to a structural problem it also became the perfect venue for a grand atrium space.
