WHERE ARE THEY NOW?
MEET ANGELINA HAMBLIN
Baby Angelina wasn’t even born when she had her first surgery. Her parents, Brian and Theresa, learned from an ultrasound that Angelina had severe critical aortic stenosis while Theresa was pregnant. Theresa underwent an inutero procedure to correct the stenosis and possibly prevent Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS) before Angelina’s birth. The aortic valve was successfully ballooned; however, her left ventricle did not grow and Angelina was diagnosed with HLHS shortly after birth. Angelina was in and out of the pediatric cardiac intensive care until she was about 2 months old. But she continued to have additional heart surgeries, and at 3 1/2 years old was hospitalized again with a severe case of pneumonia and empyema. The Hamblins stayed at the RMHCAA Main House at least three times over those years so they could be close to Angelina. >> Angelina now attends the University of Michigan as a member of the Women in Science and Engineering Residence Program- right up the street from the Ronald McDonald House! Angelina plans to go into medicine, with a focus on pediatrics.

The Ronald McDonald House provided us with meals, a comfortable place to sleep and shower, and a chance to meet other families in similar situations to ourselves. We were so grateful for the opportunity to stay there and have our basic needs met while caring for our little girl in her most critical moments. ” -Theresa Hamblin
