Memorial Endowment Fund

We are very pleased to announce the creation of the Jason G. Fordham Memorial Endowment Fund.

Gifted by an individual who asked not to be identified, the Jason G. Fordham Memorial Endowment Fund was established to honor the memory of Jason Fordham, who passed away September 24, 2013, following a 4year battle with cancer.

Jason was a supporter of the arts in Rome and Floyd County, Georgia, particularly related to theatre and the preservation of the Historic DeSoto Theatre and was a member of both the Rome Little Theatre Board of Directors and the Historic DeSoto Theatre Foundation Board, serving as president of the Rome Little Theatre Board of Directors from 2009-2011.

The designated purposes of the Jason G. Fordham Memorial Endowment Fund are: (a) to honor Jason Fordham’s contributions to theatre; (b) to serve as Jason Fordham’s legacy; and (c) to provide on-going support for Rome Little Theatre and the Historic DeSoto Theatre Foundation.

The income from the investment of monies in the Jason G. Fordham Memorial Endowment Fund will be equally divided between Rome Little Theatre and the Historic DeSoto Theatre Foundation to be used in whatever manner the individual organizations deem appropriate in support of the arts in Rome and Floyd County, Georgia.

In addition to the $100,000.00 initial donation to establish the Jason G. Fordham Memorial Endowment Fund, both Rome Little Theatre and the Historic DeSoto Theatre Foundation gladly accept donations to the Endowment Fund to honor Jason’s legacy and his many contributions to theatre as well as provide on-going support for Rome Little Theatre and the Historic DeSoto Theatre Foundation.

Donations earmarked for the Jason G. Fordham Memorial Endowment Fund may be safely made at romelittletheatre.org or mailed to the Historic DeSoto Theatre, 530 Broad Street, Rome, GA 30161.

A Guide to

Theatre Etiquette Arrive early It's a good idea to arrive at least 30 minutes early so you can have plenty of time to find a parking spot, pick up your tickets, use the rest room and get something at the concession counter.

Use the restroom BEFORE the show and DURING intermission Turn your cell phone off Even if you have it on vibrate, people can still hear the buzzing and it's very distracting. Don't talk or text on the phone DURING the performance. If you need to take a call, please wait until a scene change before you leave.

Coming and Going Please don't get up and leave during the performance unless it's an emergency. If you do need to leave or come back in, please wait until there is a scene change.

Fidgeting Please sit still. Bumping your elbows into your neighbors or kicking the seat in front of you is annoying. If you have kids, please keep them in control. « Sight lines Try to avoid large hairdos and hats. Also avoid snuggling up to your date because it might block someone's view behind you.

Photos Videotaping and taking photos during the performance is a distraction to the performers, other patrons and is often illegal.

Please don’t take photos during the show.

Other Etiquette Guidelines « Please refrain from talking, humming, or singing along with the show, except when encouraged to do so by the performers. « Please wait for an appropriate time to dig something out of your pocket or bag.

« Please do not make noise with candy wrappers or popcorn bags. « Outside food and beverages are not permitted in the DeSoto Theatre. « Go easy with the perfume and cologne; many people are allergic. « The Overture (intro music at the start of a musical theatre show) is a part of the performance, so please be quiet when it begins. « Don't put or throw anything on the stage. « Pay attention to the announcements that are being made prior to each show about the rules and regulations and the location of the fire exits. « Do not whistle or scream out to the performers, except for a Bravo or Brava in the finale.

Now for some Dos: « Do laugh in appropriate places. « Do applaud with enthusiasm in the appropriate places. « Do tell all your friends, after the show, what a great time you had. « Do applaud when the performance is over; doing so shows the cast and the crew how much you appreciated their hard work and effort. « Stand and applaud if you really thought the show was great.

Rome Little Theatre is a non- profit community organization depending upon membership and volunteer efforts for its primary support.

Message from the Director S. E. Hinton was rather young when she wrote The Outsiders. I cannot imagine she knew its impact would continue for now over 50 years. When I first read the script I decided I did not want the story to remain in the years she described in the book. The more I read the more I realized the conflicts are dateless. My cast and I tried to find current names that better describe the 2 opposing groups in 2015 terms. We couldn’t find anything that truly fits them as well as what was originally written. We have become a much more violent society and that limits the perception of groups who oppose one another without necessarily wanting to destroy one another violently. We have made some concession to the changing times. I hope you will embrace them. I am so thankful to have a taught at a time and to live in a community that life threatening violence among teenagers is not an everyday occurrence nor a form of recreation.

As you will see, I have been blessed with a most talented cast. Not to dismiss the work of the adults- some of whom are new to RLT and have given to this production so much more than you see onstage-this group of “teenagers� have brought to us unexpected talent in so many areas. They have tried everything I have asked. They have made valuable contributions to what you see. They have given up their spare (not in rehearsal) time. They have worked as an ensemble. They have amazed, dazzled, and inspired me. And I love them for it! I am so fortunate to have had the pleasure of working with this entire cast!

Then there is the crew! Milton Chambers and Neal Brackett developed this set from a conversation and a really incomplete drawing and had it workable the first week we had the stage. This is virtually unheard of! Sarah Smith and her crew have been with us for weeks and are as integrated into this show as the actors! Their loyalty and dedication is invaluable and irreplaceable! JoAnna Parker has been cutting and coloring hair for weeks! Gail Deschamps and Kim Brackett have embraced and brought to fruition my lighting ideas like no one before. (This is not a lights up/lights down show!) There are people who have no connection to RLT but who care for the young men and women in this show and have, therefor, transported, clothed, fed, and kept well this cast of 24 when we were struggling to get a rehearsal with an entire cast! I would be remiss not to mention the beautiful work of Megan Keating Morris. There is no one who is more committed to every show RLT does and what a gift to this show to have her do photography, writing, publicity and all the other things she and Mary O do daily for RLT! My sincere admiration to everyone involved with the production! You each have a special place in my heart!

The Outsiders Biographies Chase Brackett - Johnny Cade Chase is appearing in his twentysecond role onstage at the DeSoto.

You may remember his performances last spring as Eugene in Grease, or Prince Eric in The Little Mermaid, Jr. Last year, he also premiered the role of James Madison in The Friends of the Constitution’s production of Founding Fathers. Chase has appeared in numerable productions for other companies as well.

One of his most memorable performances was the title role of Amahl in the opera Amahl and the Night Visitors with the Rome Symphony Orchestra and the Seven Hills Opera Company. He also enjoys the backstage elements of theater. He stage-managed Darlington’s production of The Sound of Music last spring, and will be stage managing Once Upon a Mattress for Darlington here at the DeSoto immediately following this production. Chase is a member of the Spivey Tour Choir directed by Dr. Martha Shaw, and has performed at the Royal College of Music and St. Martin’s-in-the Field in London. Chase studies violin with Dr. Sinisa Ciric, the RSO concertmaster. He will be happy to serenade you most Friday nights at Bella Roma Grill. He currently studies dance at the Dance Centre. He also referees soccer matches for Coosa, Darlington and the local YMCA.

Evan Brackett - Bob Evan is making another appearance onstage, despite having a greater love for teching backstage. He would tell you how many previous productions he's been involved in but he can't remember and forgot where he put his list. In his spare time away from the RLT he enjoys studying construction management at GNTC and spending time with his wonderful girlfriend Kristin. He would like to thank everyone involved in the production, especially Miss Virginia and Neal for pouring more hours into this production than anyone else. He hopes you enjoy this rendition of The Outsiders as much as the cast has enjoyed putting it together for you.

Isaac Brackett - Jake Isaac has appeared in fourteen other productions onstage at the DeSoto, including roles in Scrooge: The Musical, Gypsy, Peter Pan, and Oliver Twist. He was a tap dancing Jitterbug in The Wizard of Oz, young William Frankenstein in Frankenstein, and earlier this fall, portrayed Joe Harper in The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. He has also performed in a number of Sam Baltzer’s R.O.M.E. shows. Isaac is a member of the Spivey Children’s Choir at Clayton State University under the direction of Dr. Martha Shaw. He studies dance at the Dance Centre and plays soccer.

You rarely see Isaac without one of the many hats from his hat collection!

The Outsiders Biographies Neal Brackett - Producer This is Neal's eleventh time in the producer's chair. Last season he collaborated with Virginia McChesney to bring you The Dixie Swim Club. Neal began his career with the Rome Little Theatre helping his wife Kim bring percussion equipment into the theater for the Prospect Theater production of Kismet.

His wife has appeared in the orchestra for many musicals and serves frequently with lighting design teams and as a board operator. Neal has appeared onstage numerous times with the RLT including To Kill A Mockingbird, Footloose and Gypsy. Neal serves the Rome Little Theatre as the VP of Public Relations. By day, Neal wears a number of other hats as the veterinarian at North Broad Animal Clinic, a father of three, and a social entrepreneur.

J.G. Brunson - Two-Bit Mathews J.G. is an 11th grade home-school student in Rome, Georgia. This is J.G.'s first major stage production.

However, J.G. did appear in a small speaking part for the independent film The System. J.G. would like to thank his parents, the other members of his family, and his friends for their constant support, encouragement, and helpful feedback on his performances.

Molly Clay - Marcia Molly is a junior at Rome High School. She has been performing on stage since she was a baby and

falls in love with it all over again every time she steps into the light.

Molly's most recent productions have been Seven Brides for Seven Brothers as Milly and Epic Proportions as Louise at Rome High School. Molly would like to thank her amazing director, Virginia, for everything she has done and for helping Molly grow as an actress.

She would also like to thank her family for all the support, especially her sisters who are her biggest stage inspirations. When she walks on stage she strives to make them proud and hopes this performance will do just that. Molly would like to thank Rome High Drama Troupe 1722 for all the love and support in these chaotic times. You guys are amazing! Lastly, Molly would like to thank the outstanding cast of The Outsiders for creating such a wonderful family with open arms; she will miss seeing all of their bright smiling faces every day.

Lindsey Chambers - Cherry Lindsey is a 22 year old college graduate from Birmingham Southern College, where she received a musical theatre degree. Her most recent show with Rome Little Theatre was the production of Legally Blonde the Musical where she played Elle Woods. She is very excited to be back at RLT and wants to thank the cast and crew for all their hard work!

The Outsiders Biographies Jacob Faile - Sodapop Curtis Jacob is a sixteen year old high school student that dual enrolls at Georgia Northwestern Technical College. He recently starred in Beauty and the Beast, Jr at RLT as the character Gaston. His family and friends have been incredibly supportive throughout almost all of his endeavors here at RLT. Jacob has had a lot of help to get to this point in his life. The following list includes only some of the people, objects, ideas, and actions that need to be thanked: Steven, Jennai, the Russian gymnast eating the bacon sandwich in the Kroger parking lot, Ipswich, the destruction of the Death Star, the poor dwarf bunny that became Jacob's soul animal, aglets, third-person writing, the Phoenicians, Wikipedia, facial modification (plastic surgery), inspirational kitten posters, 42 magical unicorns that conduct science experiments, the pirate rock named Carlos, and the inter-dimensional enslavement of the vegetarian cannibal people.

Jesse Faile - Darry Curtis Jesse is a sophomore at Georgia Northwestern Technical College. He has taken off this fall and spring semester to work at Harbin Clinic in the IT Department. This is his first production at Rome Little Theater, but he has had experience in acting in a dinner theater production and several skits. Jesse would like to thank Virginia for pushing him as an actor and the entire ensemble and

crew for working with him on all that needed to be done for the Video Segments.

Joseph Fincher - Doctor Morse Joseph is a Rome businessman.

The Outsiders is his first experience in theatre.

Daniel George - Randy Daniel is a junior in high school. He has been home-schooled his entire life and is currently dual enrolling at GNTC. His hobbies include skateboarding, eating, playing guitar, eating, listening to music, eating, climbing things, and eating.

Michael Hillman - Mr. Syme Michael is extremely honored and excited to be part of this fantastic cast. Michael is an English teacher at Calhoun City High School. Michael has been involved in theater for about 10 years. He has been in several productions at RLT, including the role of Alan in Play it Again, Sam, Renfield in Dracula, and Tom in The Glass Menagerie. Prior to being involved at RLT, Michael was in several plays at Calhoun Little Theater, including the role of Tony in Dial M for Murder and Meyers in Witness for the Prosecution. Michael would like to thank Lauren and his family for their love and support. ​ Peyton Hudson - Isabella Peyton is thrilled to make her debut at the Rome Little Theatre. Recently she has performed in The Crucible,

The Outsiders Biographies playing Susanna Walcott, and as the Wicked Queen in Snow White and Her Friends. Currently in the third year in her high school drama group, Testify, she has also been in numerous skits and pantomimes.

She would like to thank her parents/step-parents for graciously driving her to every rehearsal without complaining too much.

Adam Isabel - Paul Adam is no stranger to Rome Little Theatre, even though his history is spread out. His most recent roles include Richard in The Man Who Came to Dinner (2012) and Joe Harper in The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (2004). Born and raised in Rome, Adam graduated from Armuchee High School in 2009 and currently works at the Rome Braves as a clubhouse manager. Adam would like to thank his parents, who put up with his craziness, and his brother, who has no idea how much he means to him. Enjoy the show!

Jenna Kemp - Sandy Jenna Kemp is sixteen years old.

She is home-schooled and in the eleventh grade. This is her first production with Rome Little Theatre. In addition to acting she also enjoys karate and drawing.

Will Kemp - Eric Will is a tall, attractive 16 year old home-schooler. This is his second play with Rome Little Theatre. In his spare time, he reads, listens to music, and avoids purple food. He

would like to thank everyone in North America for helping him get this far!

Julie Martinez - Fallon Julie is an 8th grader at Rome middle school. She is 14 years old. This is her first production. She gives thanks to her parents who drove her back and forth to rehearsals and she gives thanks to all the other cast members in the production for making her feel welcomed.

Virginia M. McChesney - Director Virginia is a native Roman. Having received both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Fine Arts in Drama and Theatre from UGA, she returned home to decide what to do and found a job teaching special education for the Floyd County Schools which she did for 37 years.

Forty two years and two more degrees later, she has still not left Rome. She has done everything from acting and directing and everything else it takes to put a show on the stage to starting RLT’s children’s theatre program to knocking out seats and cleaning bathrooms for RLT. She has been involved in some way in over 120 shows at RLT and other producing companies while in Rome. She was last seen in A Streetcar Named Desire and was chosen Director of the Year for last season’s The Dixie Swim Club.

The Outsiders Biographies Zac Mitchell - Will Zac has performed in several Rome Little Theatre shows over the last four seasons. Some of his more notable roles have been as a petty pickpocket in Oliver Twist, a sadistic chef in Little Mermaid, and a bumbling, nasally sidekick in Beauty and the Beast, Jr. A boy of eclectic talents, Zac recently learned how to perform the “breakaway “ with a yoyo, how to solve a Rubik’s cube, and how to choke another actor in stage fighting. The latter of these skills he proudly performs for you on stage today. The eighth-grader also enjoys singing, acting, and beating up greasers, which is probably why he was cast for this part.

Mary Ortwein - Mrs. O’Briant Mary has enjoyed learning about acting since 1997, when she got her first role in RLT's Anne of Green Gables. Her favorite recent roles are: Miss Lynch in Grease (RLT) and Reverend Mother in Nunsense (Calhoun Little Theatre). She has loved working backstage, onstage and out front for many productions.

Mary was a teacher at St. Mary's School for 15 years before she became RLT Office Manager in 2006.

Mary and her husband Tommy live in Rome, and spend as much time as possible with their two daughters and their families.

JoAnna Parker - Costumes, Hair/Makeup JoAnna is a dance instructor at The Dance Centre of Rome and

Baird Ballet. She is the 2014 Judges Choice winner of the Sexual Assault Center's Rome Celebrity Dance Challenge. JoAnna has been seen on stage numerous times and backstage just as many! Most recently JoAnna was head of costumes, hair and makeup for RLT's production of Tom Sawyer. JoAnna would like to thank Neal Brackett for making her get involved again and Virginia McChesney for trusting her to bring her vision to life! When not at the theatre or teaching dance JoAnna loves to play with Kaydon, (her two year old son), and spend time with her wonderful husband Derrick!

Cannon Rogers - Ponyboy Curtis After a two year break from RLT, Cannon is glad to be back with his theater friends. Some of his favorite RLT roles include an Oompa Loompa in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Templeton the rat in Charlotte's Web, and Oliver in Oliver Twist. Recently he has performed as Jojo in Seussical the Musical and Donkey in Shrek, produced by Grand Illusion at Rome Middle School. As a ninth grader at RHS, Cannon is part of the Rome High Marching Band, The Men's Ensemble Chorus, and RHS Jazz Band.

He plays guitar/bass with the Trinity 11:11 Praise Band, as well as the Trinity UMC youth band. Cannon enjoys playing guitar, skateboarding, and hanging out with friends.

Rebecca Segrest - The Nurse Rebecca is a Rope Access Technician with Over the Edge USA and works helping non-profit companies fund raise through rappelling events. She is also a Registered Nurse at Redmond Regional Medical Center in Rome and a member of the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Rescue Services as a member of the Cave-Cliff-Technical Rescue team. The Outsiders is Rebecca’s first play with Rome Little Theatre, and she has truly loved learning about herself and the theater under Ms. McChesney’s direction. She is excited to add Community Theater to her list of activities, which already includes caving, sailing, gardening and raising chickens.

Earnest Simpson - Dallas Winston Earnest returns for his sophomore role as Dallas Winston, the hardened and embattled Greaser that has seen and been through it all.

While Earnest's previous role as Eddie in The Rocky Horror Show may have been easily passed off as "type cast" due to his love of loud rock 'n' roll, motorcycles, and leather, this role hits very close to home for this actor, having actually lived through the loss, pain, trials and tribulations his stage character has survived. The disparity is now he must play the person who he could have - and almost did - become.

Brooks Smith - Jerry Wood Brooks lives in Rome with his wife.

He has two grown children and one granddaughter. This is his second RLT production. He wants to thank his wife and family for their support/encouragement and the very talented cast of The Outsiders, Virginia McChesney, the production team, everyone behind the scenes who ensure production success, and most importantly, the audience, for supporting community theater.

Trey Wilkerson - Brandon Trey is a freshman at Pepperell High School. He loves to act/sing and would love to make it a career if possible. He has been in one previous RLT production, but has participated in numerous school performances. He would like to thank his family for the support throughout the show. He would also like to thank Virginia for allowing him to be a part this incredible experience.

Makaylah Young - Caroline Makaylah is a junior at Pepperell High School in Lindale, Georgia.

This is Makaylah's first production with Rome Little Theatre. She is very excited to be a part of The Outsiders! Makaylah would like to thank her family and friends for supporting her as much as they have and her family for providing her with gas money to get to the theatre. She would also like to thank her director, Virginia, as well as the cast for being so loving and welcoming to her.
