Our Story

orn of the American Little Theatre Movement, Rome Little Theatre is proud to be one of the oldest community theatres in the country. From its founding in 1933 to its WWII hiatus and its 1956 revival, and from its residencies at the Gordon Theatre and the Maple Street Community Center to its current home at the Historic DeSoto Theatre, RLT is woven artfully into the rich, historical fabric of Rome, Georgia. For decades, RLT has been committed to entertaining, engaging, and enriching our community through the practice and promotion of the theatre arts. Our success is built on the generous contributions of generations of volunteers, donors, and patrons. The mission of RLT is to present amateur theatrical productions, encourage interest in drama, and contribute to the cultural and educational life of the community. RLT is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.

Memorial Endowment Fund Jason was a supporter of the arts in Rome and Floyd County, particularly related to theatre and the preservation of the Historic DeSoto Theatre.

The Jason G. Fordham Memorial Endowment Fund not only honors Jason’s contributions to theatre but also serves as his legacy and provides on-going support for Rome Little Theatre and the Historic DeSoto Theatre for many years to come. Both Rome Little Theatre and the Historic DeSoto Theatre Foundation gladly accept donations to the Jason G. Fordham Memorial Endowment Fund to honor Jason’s legacy and his many contributions to theatre as well as provide on-going support for Rome Little Theatre and the Historic DeSoto Theatre Foundation. Who’s Who Roger Bean - Playwright Roger created the long-running hit The Marvelous Wonderettes (over 1,200 performances Off-Broadway), along with the sequels Wonderettes: Caps & Gowns, Winter Wonderettes, Wonderettes: Dream On, and the new largecast Wonderettes: Glee Club Edition. Original cast albums for all Wonderettes shows are available from iTunes and Amazon. The Marvelous Wonderettes received the 2007 LA Ovation Award for Best Musical for its record-breaking Los Angeles run and continues to be an audience favorite in theatre companies throughout the country. Mr. Bean’s dowop hit Life Could Be A Dream had a record-breaking 12-month run in Los Angeles, receiving the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award, the LA Weekly Theatre Award, and the Backstage Garland Award for Outstanding Musical. Other popular musicals created by Mr. Bean include The Andrews Brothers, Summer of Love, Route 66, Honky Tonk Laundry, and Why Do Fools Fall In Love?, all published by Stage Rights. Some of her favorite roles over the years have been Cinderella in Into the Woods, Lilly in Secret Garden, and Elle Woods in Legally Blonde the Musical. Jessica Stewart - Producer/Stage Manager Jessica is extremely thankful for the opportunity to work with the amazing cast & crew of The Marvelous Wonderettes and to be a part of another RLT production! Endless gratitude to Amanda Swendsen and Chris Davidson! Amanda Swendsen - Director Amanda serves as the President of the RLT Board of Directors, after serving terms as President-Elect, Secretary and Director of Productions. When not at the theatre, Amanda works at Berry College as the Director of Enrollment Operations and Strategy. Over the last 10 years Amanda has worn many hats around RLT, and has worked alongside many talented actors, directors, producers and technicians. Directing credits include Mamma Mia, Forever Plaid, White Christmas and Seussical the Musical. Producing credits include Into the Woods and Frozen Jr. She also enjoys stage managing whenever she gets the chance. Amanda moved to Rome, GA in 2013 with her husband, James, and they have a 4 and a half year old daughter, Avery, who is the most awesome kid ever! Amanda would like to thank Jessica Stewart, Alexis Tyson, James Willis and the cast for being such rock stars, and the entire production team for investing so much of their time and talent in the show! L-O-V-E that spells LOVE! Alexis Loren Tyson - Choreographer Alexis is a Cedartown native. She received her BA in Drama Performance from Jacksonville State University in 2018. Since completing her degree she has taken on the role of Theatre Director at Rome High School.

Who’s Who Maegan Williams - Missy Maegan is thrilled to be back at RLT and joining the amazingly talented cast and crew of The Marvelous Wonderettes! This is her eighth RLT show as a performer, her most recent performance being Donna Sheridan in Mamma Mia! She would like to thank her fellow Wonderettes, Lindsey, Abbie, and Mandy for their support and dedication. Thank you to Amanda, Jessica, and Alexis for bringing us all on a fabulous journey to the past. Thank you to her husband, Rick, for always being such an incredible support system. A huge shout out to her mom, dad, mother-in-law, and father-in-law for their flexibility in navigating this return to the theater with her two girls, Luciana and Alysia. L-O-V-E, that spells LOVE!

Abbie Yerbey - Suzy Abbie is thrilled and grateful to take part in The Marvelous Wonderettes. She was previously involved in two RLT productions The Rocky Horror Picture Show with Shadow Cast and Mamma Mia!. Thanks to the cast and crew for creating such a joyful show and to her husband for enduring daily renditions of earworms such as Lollipop. They'll find their way out soon ...hopefully.
