Memorial Endowment Fund

We are very pleased to announce the creation of the Jason G. Fordham Memorial Endowment Fund.

Gifted by an individual who asked not to be identified, the Jason G. Fordham Memorial Endowment Fund was established to honor the memory of Jason Fordham, who passed away September 24, 2013, following a 4-year battle with cancer.

Jason was a supporter of the arts in Rome and Floyd County, Georgia, particularly related to theatre and the preservation of the Historic DeSoto Theatre and was a member of both the Rome Little Theatre Board of Directors and the Historic DeSoto Theatre Foundation Board, serving as president of the Rome Little Theatre Board of Directors from 2009-2011.

The designated purposes of the Jason G. Fordham Memorial Endowment Fund are: (a) to honor Jason Fordham’s contributions to theatre; (b) to serve as Jason Fordham’s legacy; and (c) to provide on-going support for Rome Little Theatre and the Historic DeSoto Theatre Foundation.

The income from the investment of monies in the Jason G. Fordham Memorial Endowment Fund will be equally divided between Rome Little Theatre and the Historic DeSoto Theatre Foundation to be used in whatever manner the individual organizations deem appropriate in support of the arts in Rome and Floyd County, Georgia.

In addition to the $100,000.00 initial donation to establish the Jason G. Fordham Memorial Endowment Fund, both Rome Little Theatre and the Historic DeSoto Theatre Foundation gladly accept donations to the Endowment Fund to honor Jason’s legacy and his many contributions to theatre as well as provide on-going support for Rome Little Theatre and the Historic DeSoto Theatre Foundation.

Director's Notes Legally Blonde is a musical based on the novel Legally Blonde by Amanda Brown and the 2001 film of the same name. It tells the story of Elle Woods, a sorority girl who enrolls at Harvard Law School to win back her ex-boyfriend Warner. She discovers how her knowledge of the law can help others, and successfully defends exercise queen Brooke Wyndham in a murder trial.

I love musicals and it is always a pleasure to get the opportunity to direct a show that is on my bucket list. Thank you Rome Little Theatre Board of Directors for adding this extra show to the 2014-2015 Season.

Legally Blonde the Musical Biographies Alisha Abrams (Pilar) Alisha is no stranger to the stage, she has been in over 25 productions! Her last RLT production was Oliver Twist where she played Nancy. Right after the show she found out she was pregnant and took a short break from the actual stage and did some backstage stuff. Alisha is married to Tim Abrams and they have 3 beautiful, talented daughters; Anslee, Brylee & Kynlee. She would like to thank her husband and family for being so great and taking care of the girls while she was at practice (which usually was at bedtime) and allow her to do something she loves! I love you guys! "I have loved being apart of this cast! I have met new friends and was brought back together with past friends!

This was a great experience and I look forward to working with you all again in the future!"

Shahara Bang (DAJoyce Riley/Cashier) Recently returning from Washington, DC after 10 years of service in the United States Army, Shahara is an American talent with several years of experience in improvisational acting and theater training from numerous workshops around the country such as The San Diego National Comedy Theatre and the Washington Improv Theatre. Known as Bang, she currently hosts Mia's Melodic Soul Session at Café 290 in Roswell, GA. Originally from Lindale, GA, Bang is the daughter of recently retired Floyd County Police officer Howard M. Irvin and the beautiful Cynthia Davis. Having attended San Diego State University studying Linguistics and American Intercontinental University majoring in International Business, Bang has continuously developed her communication abilities and is fluent in Spanish with intermediate skills in Japanese. Bang also has a well-established career in medical education communications and is known as a local baker with skills that will make you want to slap yo mama! Bang would like to send thanks to director, Karen Bowling, for allowing her to participate with such a talented group of actors.

Karen Bowling (Director) Karen has been involved with Rome Little Theatre since 1999. She has enjoyed the camaraderie and shared love of theater arts with its members. Her last directing credit with RLT was the 2013 production of Hairspray, which won the Roman for best musical, best overall show and best director. She served as chairman of the RLT reading committee for the 2015-2016 season. Karen enjoys movies, music, travel, fun and laughter with her friends the “Beaches” and spending time with her grown up children, Lauren and Kevyn. Most of all love and kisses to her husband Ernie, her Mom and dog Wilma who wait patiently for her to come home after long hours of rehearsals.

Lindsey Chambers (Elle Woods) Lindsey is a 22 year old college graduate from Birmingham-Southern College.

She received a BA in Musical Theatre with a minor in psychology. She recently played Susan from Stephen Sondheim’s Company while finishing her college degree. She has been participating in theatre since she was 12 years old at Rome Little Theatre, the Icon Theatre Company, and the Birmingham-Southern theatre. She is very excited to be back at Rome Little Theatre again. She is very grateful for this opportunity and she wants to send lots of love and congratulations to the other cast and crew members.

Brendon Earp (Nikos) Brendon has been a part of the Rome Little Theatre for two years now and has really enjoyed his time here. This is his last production for a while at RLT and he would like to thank the director, Karen, for this opportunity. He would also like to give a shout out to the AAG, his grandparents and family for all of their support.

A special shout out to his mother and father for finally being in the country long enough to see him perform, love you guys.

A Guide to

Theatre Etiquette Arrive early It's a good idea to arrive at least 30 minutes early so you can have plenty of time to find a parking spot, pick up your tickets, use the rest room and get something at the concession’s counter.

Use the restroom BEFORE the show and DURING intermission Turn your cell phone off Even if you have it on vibrate, people can still hear the buzzing and it's very distracting. Don't talk or text on the phone DURING the performance. If you need to take a call, please wait until a scene change before you leave.

Coming and Going Please don't get up and leave during the performance unless it's an emergency. If you do need to leave or come back in, please wait until there is a scene change.

Fidgeting Please sit still. Bumping your elbows into your neighbors or kicking the seat in front of you is annoying. If you have kids, please keep them in control. « Sight lines Try to avoid large hairdos and hats. Also avoid snuggling up to your date because it might block someone's view behind you.

Photos Videotaping and taking photos during the performance is a distraction to the performers, other patrons and is often illegal.

Please don’t take photos during the show.

Other Etiquette Guidelines

« Please do not make noise with candy wrappers or popcorn bags. « Outside food and beverages are not permitted in the DeSoto Theatre. « Go easy with the perfume and cologne, many people are allergic. « The Overture (intro music at the start of a musical theatre show) is a part of the performance, so please be quiet when it begins. « Don't put or throw anything on the stage. « Pay attention to the announcements that are being made prior to each show about the rules and regulations and the location of the fire exits. « Do not whistle or scream out to the performers, except for a Bravo or Brava in the finale.

Now for some Dos: « Do laugh in appropriate places. « Do applaud with enthusiasm in the appropriate places. « Do tell all your friends, after the show, what a great time you had. « Do applaud when the performance is over; doing so shows the cast and the crew how much you appreciated their hard work and effort. « Stand and applaud if you really thought the show was great.

« Please refrain from talking, humming, or singing along with the show, except when encouraged to do so by the performers. « Please wait for an appropriate time to dig something out of your pocket or bag.

Legally Blonde the Musical Biographies Russell Evans (Emmett Forrest) Russell returns after playing Sonny (Grease) and Lieutenant Kendrick (A Few Good Men) on the RLT stage this season.

Previous roles include Link Larkin (Hairspray), Joseph (Dreamcoat), James Cagney (Shakespeare in Hollywood), and Harker (Dracula). Russell is a '07 graduate from Mercer University where he was a 4 year member of the Mercer Singers touring the Southeast US and Japan. He has been very active in community theater for 17 years since being “discovered” at age 11 for the First Baptist Church of Rome's production of Four Tickets to Christmas in '96. Russell thanks his small, loyal party of fans, and especially his parents Wayne and Denise.

David Gossett (Warner Huntington III) Legally Blonde marks David's 5th production on the DeSoto stage, which is a relief to him as a fan of prime numbers.

When not indulging his malignant narcissism by being in plays, David is either stocking shelves at Walmart, recording audio books, voicing Italian dragonflies, or (his personal favorite) spending time with his infinitely more talented girlfriend that is clearly too good for him. (Love you, Ashleigh!) He wishes to thank every single person involved with this production for making this glorious experiment succeed.

Also Jack Kirby. Not for show reasons, he just really loves comic books and the impact that Kirby continues to have on the medium.

Becky Magruder (Producer) Becky has had her hands in a lot of areas of RLT including producer. She said the summer shows are a little harder because of summer conflicts, but she thinks Legally Blonde is going to rock the house! She would like to thank all the volunteers (too many to name) for their many hours of help with set and costumes. A special thank you to Emily McKnight for her creative choreography. Kudos to Karen Bowling the director; without her, the show would not be the awesome show it's turned 19 out to be. Now… enjoy the show!

Mandy Maloney (Whitney /Store Manager) Mandy is so thankful to be onstage with this amazing cast. She wishes to thank Karen for encouraging her to grow and for teaching her so much. Becky and Carol it's always a pleasure to work with you! And last but most important, her hubby Nathan for taking care of their two burgeoning performers Millie and Henry.

Beth McCain (Paulette Bonafonte) Beth is a native Roman. This is Beth's fifth musical production with previous stage performances including The Wiz in 2009, Ain't Misbehavin in 2010, The Civil War in 2012 and Hairspray in 2013, which earned her a Roman Award for "Best Female Showstopper" as Motormouth Maybelle. Music has always been a huge part of Beth's life thanks in part to her Gospel roots. Her mother, who was a pianist for their church, encouraged her to use her talents and to strive to be the best that she can be, and that is exactly what Beth intends to do.

Cardie McClure (Margot) Cardie is an upcoming sophomore at Berry College where she is majoring in English and Theatre. This is her eighth production with Rome Little Theater. She was last seen on this stage as Justine Moritz in Frankenstein, a role for which she was nominated for her first Roman Award. Cardie is also apart of the Berry College Theatre Company and truly loves pursuing her career with such talented performers and caring friends.

Cardie would like to thank her mother, Ginger McClure, for encouraging her love of the arts, Richard and Alice Bristow for continually teaching her to be a better actress and a better person, and David Beach for too many things to ever try to list. Please enjoy the show and thank you for supporting Rome Little Theatre and it's artists!

Legally Blonde the Musical Biographies Alex McDermont (Aaron Schultz/ Carlos / Brooke’s Inmate) This is Alex's 6th show with Rome Little Theatre. His most notable roles were Roger in Grease and The Big Bad Wolf in The Three Little Pigs and The Trial of the Big Bad Wolf, both of which he won Roman Awards for. Alex will be attending Georgia State University in Atlanta this fall.

Emily McKnight (Choreographer) Owner and Lead Instructor of Dance Works of Rome, Emily is a third generation dancer, following in the footsteps of her mother and grandmother. Emily’s most recent dance trophy was acquired when she and Dr. Dan Pate won the “People’s Choice” award at the 2011 Rome Celebrity Dance Challenge. In addition to being a competitive dancer, Emily performed at the Georgia Olympic Games. In 2011, she choreographed Rome Little Theatre’s Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and in 2012 choreographed The Sound of Music. Then in 2013 Emily choreographed Hairspray.

During the 2014 competition season, Emily’s dancers won First Place Awards, High Gold Awards, as well as Overall High Score Awards.

Lizzy Morang (Delta Nu, Gaelen /Stenographer) Lizzy Morang is a junior at Rome High School and has been doing RLT shows for five years, and looks forward to many more years with her beloved RLT family (including Ruby). She is very excited to work with the same production team that she had the pleasure of working with during Hairspray last season, and hopes Legally Blonde will be even a tenth as incredible. She would like to thank her parents for putting up with the late nights, extra expenses, and temper tantrums that come with having a drama queen for a daughter, and she would like to thank them for supporting her in every way they can, up to and including spending hours volunteering and getting hit by watermelon. She would also like to thank everyone that has inspired her to do her absolute best, and believed in her and supported her every step of the way.

And Megan for putting up with her perpetually late bios. :) Carol Murchland (Producer) Carol has teamed up once again with Karen Bowling, this time as both Producer and Stage Manager, having worked with Karen as Stage Manager for the

Legally Blonde the Musical Biographies Roman Award-winning Hairspray. She has been so lucky to work with such a professional on two occasions. Karen has freely shared her talent and expanded Carol's knowledge on musical productions. Carol had enjoyed working with RLT veterans and new cast members. Legally Blonde is aptly put on the schedule as a summer stock show because it is pure summer fun. So, sit back, laugh and enjoy Legally Blonde the Musical. I guarantee the songs will be stuck in your mind for a while!

Daniel Murchland (Grandmaster Chad/Ensemble) Daniel is extremely excited to be a part of RLT's Legally Blonde. This will be his first stage appearance since last years awardwinning production of Frankenstein and his first musical since Hairspray. Daniel has been involved in theatre since 2008 with RLT's rendition of Footloose. He then became steadily involved with acting by appearing in various productions in the Rome and Calhoun area. Noteworthy roles that Daniel has played include Willy Wonka in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Dr. Seward in Dracula, Victor Frankenstein in Frankenstein, and B-Flat from Triple Threat Art Company's production of Second Samuel.

Michael Murray (Winthrop/Dewey) Michael has taught special education students for over 20 years. He is excited and honored to be part of the cast of Legally Blonde. This is Michael’s second appearance at Rome Little Theater. His first stage experience was playing the part of Reverend Hopkins in Rome Little Theatre’s The Best Christmas Pageant Ever.

When not on stage, Michael enjoys working backstage or making props for a show.

He would like to thank his wife Mary and daughter Gloria for their patience during shows. He would also like to congratulate Karen Bowling, Carol Murchland, and his fellow actors for putting on such an awesome production.

Tim Naddy (Professor Callahan) Tim is honored to be performing with Rome Little Theatre again, having recently been in A Few Good Men and Grease. His previous performing experience spans across all types of media: stage, radio, TV and film, however, he admits his favorite is in the classroom.

Tim is a CPA and Fraud Examiner with his own IEE Consulting firm as well as an accounting professor at Shorter University. He resides here in Rome with his wife Jennifer and three boys: Jake, Luke and JD. Tim’s wife, Jennifer, says that if he’s in another show where he has to kiss another woman he’s sleeping on the couch.

Peter (Bruiser) Peter is a former orphan-kid-turned actor. He used to run the streets, challenged with the task of finding the next meal or bed, until rescued by a local veterinary hospital. A few months later, he was adopted by his mama. Peter enjoys guarding the house, chasing squirrels, napping, and playing with his sister. He hopes to attend university in a few years, and then eventually study law. He believes that it's never too late to fulfill your dreams, no matter what challenges are thrown your way. Peter has really enjoyed his time at RLT, and wants to thank the cast and crew for being so friendly to the "new guy". He hopes you enjoy the show!

Shawn Rice (Sundeep Padaman/ Assailant/ waiter/violinist /Jet Blue Pilot) Shawn is 28 years old, and is originally from Pike County, Georgia. He lived there with his family throughout his childhood. Shawn currently studying at the North Georgia University in Gainesville, Georgia. This is his first acting performance on stage here at the Rome Little Theatre.

Legally Blonde the Musical Biographies Alexis Robinson (Serena / Brooke’s Inmate /Dana) Alexis has enjoyed her second summer production here at RLT. She has a love for community theatre and has also participated in shows in her hometown, Cedartown. She is an incoming Freshman theatre major at Berry College and cannot wait to continue to work with RLT. To the cast: thank you for always being supportive. I love you guys.

Rockie (Rufus) An English Bulldog, Rockie is a native of Rome, who lives in Silver Creek with his family Brad and Melissa VanNote. Rockie likes children, popcorn and furry stuffed animals that squeak loudly, but nothing compares to the love he has for his couch that he lies on all day dreaming of being the most famous bulldog in the world! He aspires to be more famous than Georgia’s UGA and Spike of Tom & Jerry cartoons.

This is Rockie’s first musical and he has bonded well with his cast mates and hopes to be in many more!

Carrie Shaw (Delta Nu/ Leilani/ Greek Chorus) Carrie is excited to be in her 13th RLT production. Her love for theatre began when she was cast as Ms. Hannigan in Armuchee Middle School’s Annie Jr. She then became a member of the National Creative Society and participated in a Broadway workshop in NYC. She is now 21 years old and an upcoming senior at Jacksonville State University where she will receive a degree in drama. She was last seen as May in JSU’s production of Fool For Love. Carrie has dedicated her life to theatre and plans to use this not only to grow as a person, but to touch the lives of others as well.

Don Rusaw (Mr. Woods /Harvard Admissions Council Mr. Lowell) Don has directed more than 35 shows at RLT including 15 musicals, but he really has more fun doing small roles on stage.

Doing Legally Blonde has been a lot of fun and working with all these young talented actors has been special. “Thanks, Karen, for casting me. My love goes out my daughters, JoAnna and Ashley and a special love to my grandson, Kaydon!”

Lillian Shaw (Vivienne Kensington) Lillian is thrilled to once again work with Karen and the creative team at the Rome Little Theatre. Past productions include Grease (Jan), The Civil War (Sarah), and Hairspray (Tracy Turnblad), for which she won the Roman award for Best Actress. Thank you to friends, family, and roommates for their support.

Laura Sims (Enid Hoops) Laura Sims is 30 years old, and is originally from Calhoun, Georgia. She began performing with the Calhoun Little Theatre as a child. She has been in plays such Rumors, Smoke on the Mountain, Sanders Family Christmas, Dearly Beloved and RLT’s Dracula. She annually attends the science fiction and fantasy convention Dragon Con in Atlanta

She hopes to continue to participate in future Rome Little Theatre productions. She has two children, Ayden and Landon Bell.

Emily Tumlin (Brooke Wyndham) Emily is currently attending Shorter University and working toward her communications degree with a concentration in sports broadcasting. Growing up, Rome Little Theater was one of her favorite places to be. She received the "Best Rising Star" Roman award for the last role she played at age 11. Now years later Emily is beyond excited and thankful to be returning to the stage. Playing the role of Brooke Wyndam has definitely been a challenge, but has helped her push herself to new limits. She has loved every step of the way. Emily would like to thank Karen for casting her in the show. Emily said, "There has never been a rehearsal where I haven't laughed hysterically. This is one great show and an even better cast!"

Grace Turner (Delta Nu, Greek Chorus) Grace is a seventh grade student at Austin Middle School. Grace plays French Horn in her middle school band and is also in Chorus. She has preformed in Honors Chorus and other musical shows at school. This is Grace's first production at Rome Little Theatre. She has really enjoyed being a part of this show and looks forward to,hopefully, more shows in the future. Grace would like to thank her mom and dad for letting her be a part of this show and for getting her to all of the rehearsals.

Dalton Urda (Reporter /“Bend & Snap on-looker) Dalton is a senior at Adairsville High School, and Legally Blonde is the second show he has acted in at Rome Little Theatre. Dalton is an active member and president of his high school's Thespian Troupe, he is also a beta club member, soon to be honor graduate, and an AP/Honors stu-

dent. When not studying or preparing for college, Dalton spends a majority of his time volunteering with his new found family at RLT. He is privileged to have found great mentors here and is amazed at how much he has learned in his short time here, from Gail, Chuck, and Chris who have taught him more then he ever thought he'd know about light design, to Karen, Becky, and Carol whom have pushed him to always be a better performer each time he takes the stage, to Megan for all her support and love each time he enters the theatre and making sure he is enjoying himself, to Mandy for guiding him along the way, and to the dozens of others whom would take forever to name who have begun to mold him into who he wishes to become. Lastly and most importantly, Dalton would like to thank his parents and sister for supporting him, not strangling him for singing about the house, driving him to and fro, and helping in any way possible within the theatre and to his grandparents for always being avid audience members and supporting him in everything he does. Ian Van Riper (Guard- Bailiff /Harvard Admissions Council, Pforzheimer) Ian Van Riper is 15 years old and is in the 9th grade at Rome High School. Ian has been in several other RLT performances including The Little Mermaid Jr, Annie, and It’s a Wonderful Life. Ian enjoys playing soccer, listening to music, and running. Ian is grateful to his family for pushing him to continue participating at RLT. Parker Van Riper (Delta Nu, Kate – Greek Chorus) Parker Van Riper is currently a student of Mercer University's Townsend School of Music pursuing her BA in Vocal Music.

She is actively involved in Mercer's Opera program with recent performances in Mozart's The Magic Flute and Gallantry: A Soap Opera. She is excited to return

Legally Blonde the Musical Biographies to the RLT stage for the first time in 5 years! She would like to thank her family for their constant support, as well as the cast and crew for helping her return to the stage where she first performed.

Jenny Wear (Paulette Understudy/ Chutney Wyndam /Kiki the hair colorist/ Perfume Clerk #2) Jenny is a veteran of the RLT stage, but took a long sabbatical to raise her family.

She returned to RLT in 2008 to appear in CATS, and was most recently seen as Lydia Lansing in Shakespeare In Hollywood. Jenny wishes to thank her husband, Bill, for loving and supporting her and allowing her to chase her dream again, and to her Mom and Daddy (Scottie and Wain) for introducing her to the theatre many years ago. This craft is an addiction, and without the support of her entire family, Jenny could not be involved!

Todd Williams (Kyle the UPS Guy) Todd is the husband of Nicole Williams.

They have two children, Anna Barnett (16) Nash (9). When not on stage he enjoys playing golf and tennis. Todd also enjoys hanging out with friends and playing games or doing a little karaoke. He was in

drama club in high school where he played the lead role in Sganarelle. He played the Tin Man in the 2013 production of The Wizard of Oz and the role of (Dad) Bob Bradley in The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, and Vince Fontaine in this year’s production of Grease.

Rebekah Wood (Mrs. Woods / Bookish Client / Brooke’s Inmates) Rebekah resides in Lindale and is the Manager of Student Accounts for Shorter University. This is Rebekah’s second time back on the RLT stage in over 20 years. She was last seen on the RLT stage in 2013 as Aunt Em in The Wizard of Oz. Rebekah was the sheriff/ judge/ doctor in a dinner theatre production of Double Trouble on the Prairie. Rebekah is married to Brandon, and they have a 4 year old little boy Aaron. Rebekah would like to thank Brandon for being a single parent for the past couple of months.

She would also like to thank her family and friends for all their love and support.
